Episode 73 - Shopify - Merchant Interview - David Steadman from Steadyrack takes us from first concept to going global

Welcome to Ep.73 with David Steadman, CEO and Founder of Steadyrack, designers of revolutionary, space saving, bicycle storage solutions. David is a serial entrepreneur and has pivoted from home builder to bicycle storage business owner, with an innovative product embraced by cyclists and corporations all over the world. David shares the story of Steadyrack, from the first idea, at a family BBQ, to product development, expansion and ecommerce.

This is an awesome Perth business and ecommerce success story of a personal passion, and some family challenges that led to an idea, that led to a product, that led to a major change in business focus and career direction, and resulted in the growth of a legitimate global business built on a progressive new concept.

David Steadman is a driven ideas man, with a love of road bikes, mountain biking, surfing and problem solving. This interview will inspire anyone in business, and every person with entrepreneurial spirit who is out there thinking up ideas and building a business.

The concept for the first Steadyrack bike storage solution was born from David’s frustration with not being able to park his car in his garage because of the family bikes left on the floor.

Like many people, they couldn't physically tackle the chore of lifting their bikes onto their wall-mounted hooks.

Within two weeks of sharing his frustration at a family BBQ, a crude handmade rack was made. This prototype was the beginning of David’s five year journey of multiple home-made iterations, that resulted in the now-patented Steadyrack.

In 2009, Steadyrack officially produced and sold its first racks and now 100’s of thousands of Steadyracks are installed in homes and commercial facilities all over the world. It’s not uncommon to see rows and rows of Steadyracks in the carparks of the high rise buildings of some of the biggest corporate names.

Big thanks from us to David Steadman, CEO and Founder of Steadyrack for sharing his business and ecomm stories with us.

We love Ash’s story, and we think you will too because this Shopify interview is another celebration of WA business success. His love of the fight inspired Ash to launch Engage, and his fight gear and apparel brand fits alongside his management of marquee athletes like Israel Adesanya.

Listen in and you’ll hear all about Ash’s journey, and his ambitions for Engage as a brand. This is exciting and motivating stuff, so check it out fight fans.

Engage is all about progressive and premium fight gear, like gloves and shorts, plus limited edition apparel for the lovers of the fight. Engage are building a brand and reputation based on their relationships with legitimate talent, and groundbreaking collabs. Ever heard of Call Of Duty?

Sound familiar? Sounds like what it takes to launch and succeed in ecommerce to us.

Ash’s story and his journey with Engage is all about turning a personal passion and close relationships into awesome and authentic products for athletes and fans. Big thanks from us to Ash Belcastro, Founding Director of Engage, for sharing his time and tales on The Shopify Dropify.

Episode 68 - Shopify - Expert Interview - Phillip Rivers from Go Tetra on email marketing for ecommerce

Episode 68 - Shopify - Expert Interview - Phillip Rivers from Go Tetra on email marketing for ecommerce

Hello and welcome to Ep.68 where we talk to Phillip Rivers, Founder of Go Tetra, ecommerce email marketing specialists. Based in Brooklyn, NYC, USA, the Go Tetra approach is based on the idea that the unsung hero of ecomm is… email! And this is often the most neglected marketing channel too. Based on that concept, Phillip and his team work with ecommerce business owners to unlock sales growth potential in their email marketing.

Visit Company here

Connect with The Cut here

This Shopify interview will be valuable to every ecommerce merchant and business owner who is not doing any real, tactical email marketing. And for those who suspect that there is more that they can do to grow sales. There’s no doubt that marketing directly to the people who are already your best customers and biggest fans, is an ecommerce marketing strategy that produces a high return.

Phillip founded Go Tetra in 2016 after building his ecommerce skills in roles from Director of Sales with RewardOps, a customer loyalty and rewards platform, to Business Development and Branding with 72Lux, an enterprise level ecomm SaaS platform.

Phillip’s experience has shown him that online store owners neglect email because they don’t understand it, they think they don’t have time for it, and are unaware of how profitable it can be (when done right).

Phillip works with ecommerce business owners to change those perceptions based on building tactical email strategies that produce clear ROI in the most efficient ways possible.

That is a strategy for growth that’s hard to argue with, so jump in and get the full story from Phillip as he talks with Ben.

Our thanks to Phillip Rivers, Founder of Go Tetra for sharing his time and stories on The Shopify Dropify.

Inspired by a need to help her mum, and to protect her own future, Emily started investigating the ingredients in typical skin care. She realised that we cover ourselves with chemicals every day, and that many of those chemicals end up in our bodies. Emily decided to start developing safe, organic alternatives that actually work, thanks to her specialisation in health science and naturopathy.

The story of The Purist Collection is all about a personal motivation that drove investigation and knowledge that combined with Emily’s health vocation to create a range of beautiful and effective products for bodies and homes.

Big thanks from us to Emily, Founder of The Purist Collection, for sharing her business story on The Shopify Dropify.

Episode 34 - Shopify - Partner Interview - Matt Garven, CTO at Okendo, talks Customer Review tech & benefits

Episode 34 - Shopify - Partner Interview - Matt Garven, CTO at Okendo, talks Customer Review tech & benefits

For Ep.34 Ben connects with the team at Okendo again, this time to talk to co-founder and Chief Technical Officer, Matt Garven. Okendo is a cleverer-than-most Customer Review app, specifically for Shopify. Matt talks about the start of the company, how reviews help ecommerce businesses grow and why they are so important.

We have spoken to Okendo before and have another interview with Scott Goodman, their Partnerships Manager. Find Episode 26 to learn more about Okendo. The Okendo team is small and smart, and their app does clever things, most of which have been the brain child of Matt Garven, This Shopify Partner interview is very interesting for any merchant who is looking at launching or improving the way they manage and benefit from customer reviews.

Matt starts the story in the beginning, when he and co-founder Matt Goodman (yes, Scott's brother) met and the idea for Okendo was born. Matt understands every detail of their technology, how it works, what makes it powerful, and also their plans for future features.

In simple terms, the key benefits that make Okendo the new benchmark in customer reviews for ecommerce is the flexibility it offers brands regarding integration, and the ability to customise and display content-rich reviews. That means customers can use text, photos, videos, rankings and many more options when they drop their review with Okendo. Each Shopify business can extensively, and simply, customise the Okendo review for their business to include sliders for rating factors like fit for clothes or flavour for foods, for example.

Not only does Okendo make customer reviews richer, easier and more fun for customers to submit, the way the reviews display makes them more interesting and engaging for potential customers to read. The customers win on both sides of the review equation.

It was great to catch up with Okendo again, this time in their Sydney offices, and we hope you enjoy the interview.

Our big THANKS to Matt Garven, and the Okendo team for their time, insights and passion for ecommerce.

Visit Hydra here

This Shopify Merchant interview is going to give maximum value to ecommerce founders who are in the planning stages, or the first 3 years of their business.

Aaron shares a wide range of stories from the very beginning of the Hydra business, to launching, learning and working hard to achieve steady growth.

The Hydra story is an interesting one based on a simple idea, a compact range of products, a small team of people with ‘day jobs’ and how they are growing an evolving ecommerce business.

At its core, the Hyra offering is very simple - Big, tough drink bottles that are ready to take the punishment of active, outdoor lifestyles. They match form with function by looking cool and offering carry straps, easy open lids and large openings for easy water in, and fast flow when drinking. Hydra customers love these simple and effective features and points of difference.

Any business with a small product catalogue may face the challenge of diversifying and giving customers a reason to return and purchase again. Aaron and his team are working out those challenges as they go.

At the September Shopify Meetup, Aaron and his co-founders Leigh and Yujun did a tag team presentation of the Hydra story. What stands out with this business is that each co-founder brings a different skill set into the business that is complimentary to the others, and adds clear value to the overall picture.

A big Shopify THANKS to Aaron, Leigh and Yujun for giving their time to The Cut, and our listeners, to share the Hydra story.

Shopify Merchants and ecommerce business owners will find this Podcast very useful and full of valuable advice from The Cut Directors Ben and Scott, as they talk about Customer Loyalty, and extending the lifetime value of your ecommerce customers.

There are many Customer Loyalty apps to choose from for Shopify ecommerce, but before worrying about exactly which ones offer your business the best features, the best thing to do is understand the concept, what can be achieved and some of your options.

Customer Loyalty is a lot like the Frequent Flyer programs run by the airlines. For your Shopify ecommerce business, a Loyalty Program allows you to reward the people who are your most loyal customers. You can choose exactly how you want to reward them, for example with discounts or gifts etc. But you can also choose different actions to reward them for, like referring a friend or posting a great review of your business.

Loyalty Programs for ecomm are not just about giving reward points, they also give your business a great reason to stay in touch with your Customers, to communicate with them, and incentivise them to take positive actions that will benefit your business, and help to spread the word about how awesome you are.

The great thing about Customer Loyalty apps and the strategies that go with them, is that they provide a win-win for your business and your customers. Your customers enjoy the rewards and advantages you give them, and your business benefits from increased sales conversions from the people who are already your customers, plus the ability to attract new customers via your existing customers.

Make no mistake, Customer Loyalty programs for ecommerce businesses have the power to be an important part of your customer engagement and retention strategies, plus add massive value to your marketing efforts.
