#26 - These Earbuds Raised Almost $2M On Indiegogo
If you’re having a rough day, try turning up your favorite playlist. Music can help regulate your mood, cheering you up or comforting you when you’re down. This is essential when you’re running your own business: your mood can affect your decision-making, and your team will notice if you’re feeling “off.” Picking out a great pair of headphones will do your songs justice, and you’ll need a pair of true wireless earbuds to take your tunes on the go. The xFyro ARIA True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds use the most advanced audio technology for great listening on the go. These buds are an Indiegogo success story — they raised a whopping $1.9M on the crowdfunding site. What makes a pair of headphones special enough to raise all that cash? It’s next-generation sound that’s tuned to perfection by sound engineers, plus an extra-long playtime of 32 hours and a charging case that adds an extra 24 hours of listening to your headphones. The waterproof, dustproof true wireless earbuds use cutting-edge Bluetooth 5.0 technology to keep you connected at the gym, on the trail or on the way to work. You can start listening as soon as you put them on thanks to auto-pairing, and ambient noise cancellation shuts out distracting sounds. The xFyro ARIA True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds usually cost $250, but you can grab a pair right now for only $99 (60 percent off). You can check out the post on LinkedIn here 👇

Ep. 25 -- Why TikTok Is More Important Than You Think
I’ve been watching the TikTok app (formerly closely for a few years now and I’ve seen its progression.  TikTok is an app that allows you to create and share short videos, usually featuring music in the background. At the time of this writing, it’s a top-15 free app on the App Store with massive adoption worldwide (especially India and Asia).   In the recent months, I’ve started to get more and more active on TikTok because I believe in its potential - even though it's still early. I see it as much, much more than just little kids dancing and lip syncing on their phone.  1. TIKTOK’S APP IS “TRAINING WHEELS” FOR FUTURE INFLUENCERS AND CONTENT CREATORS  TikTok provides a framework that makes it easier for people to create — especially if they don’t know where to start.  And these creators are starting younger than ever before.  But the fascinating part is, TikTok is making it easier for them to become content creators. It 1) allows them to create content that they would not otherwise be able to make as easily on their own, and 2) gives them a framework they can play or create within.  For example, the TikTok app gives people tools like filters, control over video speed, access to professional audio and more. Even if you’re not the best lip-syncer, you can still create something fun on TikTok with a music background. It’s similar to what Instagram did for photography — through filters and other photo editing settings, Instagram made it easier for people to create and distribute photos.  2. THEY’VE CAPTURED A NEW DEMOGRAPHIC TikTok’s success with younger audiences reminds me a lot of Facebook and Snapchat. Facebook first started as a college-only platform and later gained popularity in other age groups. Snapchat did something similar by capturing a younger demographic first, then aging up. Snapchat captured the “tween” and teenage audience because it understood two factors that are very important when it comes to teens: (1) it’s not cool to hang out at the same place as your mom and (2) you want to lock your room.  Like Facebook, Snapchat’s app and strategies eventually started to skew older and become more appealing to a much larger demo. Like every platform, TikTok will eventually do the same. Think about when Facebook turned into “your mom’s” app. In many ways, TikTok is making Snapchat “someone’s older brother’s app” and owning an even younger gateway.  But even though it skews younger, it wouldn’t be smart to ignore it. Because eventually, it will age up.  3. IT COULD PAVE THE WAY FOR OTHER PLATFORMS THAT GIVE CREATORS A FRAMEWORK TO “CREATE”  I’m fascinated by apps that act as “tools.”  A big part of Instagram’s value came from the fact that it made it “easier” for people to become photographers. It gave people the option to take pictures from their mobile device, edit it, and share it with friends. Instagram started by building something that was a utility, and then became a social network after building that initial audience. They started by building an app that people could us to express themselves first.  TikTok could be an interesting preview of other platforms that could provide people with a framework to create. For example, what about a platform that makes it easy to express yourself through written content, or other types of content that haven’t been touched by Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok?  I’m fascinated by other apps that could act as utilities first, and then build a social network on top of it.  I’m testing, learning, and becoming a practitioner. Ultimately, if you want to reach teenagers (or younger demos) in America or Asia, TikTok could be a really interesting way to do it. Please share this episode on LinkedIn & Twitter if you found it interesting or got value from it.

#24- Bose Noise Cancelling Earbuds 500
Like the Noise Cancelling Headphones 700, the Earbuds 500 are enabled with Bose AR, the company's audio-augmented reality platform. They'll also have touch controls, a feature the SoundSport Free doesn't have, and access to Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. A Bose rep also told me that they'll have stereo audio when you're making calls (the SoundSport Free has mono audio for calls). Apart from that, little else is known, including what their price will be, although hopefully it will be the same as the SoundSport Free ($200). I didn't get a chance to try on even a prototype of Bose's other upcoming true wireless earphones, Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700, which, as their name implies, feature active noise-canceling and may share some intriguing new features found in their over-ear sibling. They're slated for a 2020 launch. Follow us on Twitter @csnakedoc13 & on Instagram @csnakedoc13 for the latest updates on Bose Earbuds 500.

TDSP #22 -- Samsung 8K TV
Everyone loves a good deal on a good TV, but how about an insane deal on an insane TV? We got wind of a Massdrop exclusive sale on a Samsung TV so new it's not even available at many popular retailers yet, let alone for any sort of discount. This TV is 82 inches, has a QLED screen (which is comparable to OLED but more expensive), and offers 8K clarity. In a world where 4K is becoming the new standard, it makes sense Samsung would already be looking forward to the next step up, but this also comes with a hefty price tag of $10,000. Yep, you read that right. But if you get in on this Massdrop sale, you can save $3,000 and pick one up for just $7,000. What a steal! What makes this TV so great? I spoke with our resident TV expert, Lee Neikirk, to see what he thinks about the TV. Lee has tested thousands of TVs over the years, so I was thrilled when he said Samsung's QLED game is strong enough already that even without testing it he is confident it's amazing.  "I think the QLED line has been getting better for a few years and it has the swagger to pull off that size of TV without blemishes or loss of quality," he told me. The Q900 has a bunch of great features beyond being gigantic and beautiful to watch. It works with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, has a Bixby-driven smart TV platform built right in, has an Ultra HD picture for deeper blacks and brighter whites and colors, and lets you enable ambient mode so your TV transforms into a living work of art when it's not being used. It also has four HDMI ports, three USB ports, and an ethernet port. The TV is massive, and it weighs 110-112 pounds (the stand adds an extra 2 pounds), so keep that in mind if you want to mount it on a wall. Do you need an 8K TV? Honestly, no one NEEDS 8K yet. No one even films anything in 8K yet. Maybe they never will. But if you've got $7,000 burning a hole in your pocket, why the heck not go for it? The massive size of the screen, according to Lee, is actually ideal for 8K content, if and when people start making it. And Samsung claims to up-convert content to be as close to 8K as they can get it, which sweetens the deal a bit. So if you want to get ahead of the game, or you just want that flex when your friends come over, this could be your chance. The sale runs through April 8, and the TVs will ship on April 23 (well worth the wait for that savings). And you do have to create a Massdrop account to access the deal, but it's free so it won't cut into your over-the-top TV budget. GET IT NOW! 👇

TDSP #21 | Vizio 4K TV
Vizio has announced that its latest 4K TVs are now available at retailers. The company’s TVs have always stuck a very impressive price to performance balance, and that seems likely to carry on this year with more local dimming zones and improved brightness performance in several models. Plus, Apple’s AirPlay 2 and HomeKit will soon be coming to Vizio TVs new and old. The TV lineup is led by the P-Series Quantum X, Vizio’s flagship 4K HDR model that comes in 65-inch ($2,199.99) and 75-inch ($3,499.99) sizes. Those are obviously a step up from the prices that most consumers associate with Vizio, but the company believes the P-Series Quantum X can compete with the very best 4K TVs on the market right now. With 384 or 480 local dimming zones, the Quantum X can approach OLEDs in terms of black level, but it can get significant brighter with a peak brightness of 3000 nits in the 65-inch model. The standard 2019 P-Series Quantum comes in the same two sizes, with lower but still very respectable specs for dimming zones (up to 240) and brightness (up to 1,200 nits). It costs $2,499.99 or $1,399.99. As you can see, moving up to a 75-inch TV doesn’t come cheap.

In 2007, there were some things that weren't even thought of in '07 such as the IPad, AirBnB, Snapchat, Spotify, Pinterest, Uber, Slack, Tesla, Blockchain, WhatsApp, 4G, Beats & Android. (Side note: I didnt even know what social media or any of the thing I mentioned above was around when I was a kid in '07.) Social media was now coming into play at this as well. Therefore, most of the people that use these products TODAY have been trying to figure out ways to improve it. These are the biggest success stories now because of this. ----------------------------- Links to the podcast ⬇️  Apple:  Google Podcasts:  Spotify:  Breaker:  Castbox: G Google Play Music:  Overcast:  PocketCast: Podbean:  RadioPublic:  Stitcher:  TuneIn:  Please tweet me and my team @csnakedoc13 & @dailysocialpodcast with your biggest takeaways. Ep 17 - Facebook & IG removing likes
Facebook & Instagram are going to be removing the like feature from IG and FB for people to focus on the photos you share and not the likes you receive. The test is likely to elicit a range of reactions, from anger to relief. Likes are often used as a metric of popularity. Some Instagram users feel pressure to rack up the likes or post photos curated for the social media age, such as at Instagrammable pop-ups or social-media friendly restaurants. Not getting enough likes can even affect some users' self-esteem. According to some studies, Instagram is the most detrimental social networking app for young people's mental health. The news was announced at Facebook's (FB) annual developer conference, F8, in San Jose.

Ep 16 - Tiles Coming to Wear OS!!!
Google is adding useful widgets called Tiles to Wear OS smartwatches Google has spent the last year refining its Wear OS smartwatch software to make everything feel simpler, more intuitive, and easier to use. The improvements have gone a long way in making Wear OS feel smoother and more useful. Today, Google is announcing another new addition: Tiles. Tiles are glanceable widgets that you can swipe between to get information quickly, including the weather, your next calendar appointment, your heart rate, news headlines, etc. You access Tiles with a left swipe on your Wear OS watchface, which previously took you to Google Fit. Your Fit data is still in that spot, but now you’ll have these other widgets available to you as well. Tiles can be rearranged to your liking with a tap and hold, and layout can also be adjusted with the Wear OS mobile app. Not all smartwatches running Wear OS will have all of these tiles; if your device lacks a heart rate sensor, you’re obviously not going to see that one. Google says it plans to add more tiles as time goes on. Tiles will roll out to Wear OS over the next month, according to Deschenes. Now, if we only had a flagship Google smartwatch to use them on.

April 23, 2019
It is set to launch in the United States on November 12, 2019. It will be focused on film and television content from Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television. To put that into perspective, Roku generated about $417 million in revenue last year, so this could mean an increase of nearly 33%. That could be even higher by 2024, potentially producing as much as $187 million in additional revenue. In all, the Disney+ launch could add as much as $1 billion to Roku's valuation. Right now, Disney has only released details about US pricing, where the streaming service will cost $6.99 a month.  Disney makes serious money (an estimated $300 million) putting its films and properties on Netflix and other services, but if Disney+ is attractive enough to pull in millions of paying subscribers, then it could yield potentially much more income. And it gives Disney a new, exclusive platform for developing new content, whether it's with existing brands or original properties. Call in & leave a voice message to give your suggestions on it. Ep #13 - Apple Airpods vs Surface Earbuds???
Microsoft is said to be developing a Surface-branded pair of wireless earbuds. According to Thurrott, the earbuds will likely include Cortana integration and noise cancellation, and it’s possible (but “not guaranteed”) that they’ll come out by the end of the year. The Surface-branded earbuds would be meant to take on Apple’s AirPods in the growing wireless earbuds space. So far, Apple is the only company to have struck the right balance between size, price, sound, and reliability. Other companies, like Jabra and Bose, have offered compelling alternatives to the AirPods, but nothing that’s been quite as simple to use as Apple’s option. Microsoft started selling its first Surface-branded audio gear, the wireless Surface Headphones, late last year. They had a clever control scheme and good wireless performance, but they were also expensive and didn’t excel when it came to sound quality. Judging by what I see on the subway, there’s a much bigger market for wireless earbuds than over-ear wireless headphones, so it’d be a logical place for Microsoft to go next. It apparently isn’t the only major tech company eying this market, either — early this month, it was reported that Amazon is also working on a pair of wireless earbuds designed to compete with the AirPods. Call in & leave a voice message to give your suggestions on it. DM me on Insta @csnakedoc13 & Let me know. Thanks.

WHAT IS APPLE TV PLUS? Apple TV Plus is a video subscription service that will feature Apple’s growing list of original TV shows and movies. When it launches this fall, Apple TV Plus will be the exclusive way to watch that content. And Apple has poured money into forming a star-studded roster of talent working to produce programming that can hopefully stand equal with Netflix’s best shows. The service will be ad-free (since you’ll be paying for it) and Apple plans to launch in over 100 countries. WHAT IS THE APPLE TV APP? The Apple TV app was first announced in October 2016 and launched on the fourth-generation Apple TV and iOS devices at the time. It is now a preinstalled app on all iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices. Apple positioned the app as a modernized TV guide: it’s an all-in-one hub for finding recommendations on shows to watch. The “Watch Now” tab offers personalized picks suited to your own tastes and pulls from many different popular video subscription apps. The Apple TV app also has a sports component, offering live scores and notifications for close games. And lastly, it provides easy access to your iTunes TV show and movie purchases or rentals. Beginning in May, the TV app will become the place to go for those same movie and TV show digital purchases on Apple TV. DOES THE APPLE TV APP COST MONEY TO USE? No. Unless you’re paying for Apple TV Plus or an Apple TV Channel subscription (and neither of those are available yet), the TV app itself is completely free to use.
