When plants grow, the roots always grow first. The roots of the plant serve a specific purpose that is imperative to the plant's ability to grow and flourish. As Christian parents, we have a desire for our children to follow Christ. But what happens when this is not our reality? What do we do when our children choose a life that does not align with God's word? This episode was recorded in 2016 as a voice note on my phone. My daughter had just returned from a camping trip and was sharing with me an experience that she had building a fire. After she shared, I took out my phone and recorded this reflection on how this act of building a fire was the perfect metaphor for the responsibilities that come with the decision to be a godly parent and the role we play in setting expectations for their spiritual growth and development.

Soccer, basketball, dance, swimming...many parents have their children involved in some sort of extracurricular activity.  The caring adults who lead these programs should be active participators in your child's life.
