EP. 27 - Always Step Up To The Plate

EP. 27 - Always Step Up To The Plate

Last week we talked about how everyone has a dream customer they want to do work with, but to get the attention of those customers usually you have to start small.  This weeks episode  builds on that by discussing what to do when you do land a big customer, and  how to establish yourself as an honest, credible person in the eyes of those customers by being transparent with them.  I understand the idea of being open and vulnerable  may make you nervous, but showing the customer you have nothing to hide will create a strong foundation of trust. When you earn trust in any relationship,  cool things happen.  Mentioned in the Episode  Hufft - Hufft is a design shop that creates meaningful spaces and objects. Our authentic approach, inspired by people and places, integrates designers and builders into one holistic process. Check out their website here.  Follow Hufft on Instagram HEALTH HOUSE - THE FIRST DEDICATED ROWING STUDIO THAT MIXES ROWING + STRENGTH TRAINING FOR THE ULTIMATE FULL-BODY WORKOUT. Ebbets Filed Flannels - This company makes awesome gear like the field hat josh describes in the episode. Check them out!  "In 1988, my search for an original, wool uniform led me to a warehouse containing baseball flannel dating from the 40's. I bought in one bolt at a time and we literally built our company on it." - Jerry Cohen, Owner & Founder Corvino's Supper Club & Tasting Room -  Corvino's is two concepts under one roof, each capturing different experiences from Chef Michael Corvino.   Michael has won numerous awards for his work included being a James Beard Foundation Best Chef 2018 semi-finalists and Food & Wine magazines most excited restaurant openings in 2017.  Vaughn Kohler - Every interaction I have had with this guy is always positive and uplifting. Vaughn is a writer and a speaker but I known him best as the co-host of the #1  business/success podcast on iTunes, The MFCEO PROJECT. Follow Vaughn on instagram and definitely check out the MFCEO podcast. its intense and always exactly what you need to hear.  @WorldOfElectricians - I mentioned these guys early in the weekly check-in, follow them on instagram they are trying to connect electricians all over the world.  They do tons of tool giveaways, bring humor to the construction industry, and have tons awesome gear you need to check out and get yourself some! John Mann - John Mann is close friend of Josh and Empowered Electric as a whole. the best way to describe John is a mix between Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec. and Ghost Rider. Check out his account @mann.made and give him a follow to see what I'm talking about. ***Also be sure to go pick up some Empowered Electric Swag here. All the proceeds go to a scholarship fund to help our guys get the tools they need!

Special EP - Girls On the Run of Greater Kansas City - Running Shoes Fundraiser

Special EP - Girls On the Run of Greater Kansas City - Running Shoes Fundraiser

Today's EP is a special episode dedicated to Girls on the Run of Greater Kansas City. Every year GOTRKC holds an "Every Girl Evening" event that helps produce funds for all the girls in Kansas City who want to participate in GOTRKC, no matter if they have the funds or not. They also raise funds at this event for new running shoes that they supply each girl with at the start of the season to ensure they have the right equipment for running long distances without having to spend the money/help create an instant boost of confidence in each one of their girls. I mean, how many times have you not been excited about getting a new pair of shoes?! I know anytime I  ever get myself a new pair of freshies I am super stoked to show them off. Anyway, when Josh first heard about this he knew he wanted to help.

As a kid, Josh didn't grow up with a lot of the luxuries most of us did, and that included getting new shoes for anything, practically ever. In this story Josh talks about how he almost got kicked off the wresting team for not being able to afford the right shoes. He also reflects on a time where he was publicly embarrassed because of the shoes he was wearing. When I think about something as simple as a pair of shoes being the center focus of a kids problems, it makes my stomach churn. That's why we are stepping in and ask you to help aid GOTRKC  to offset the cost of buying running shoes for all their girls.

We are asking that you help by donating $50 to Girls on the Run. By doing so you will be ensuring that a girl doesn't have to worry about not having the right equipment to join her friends in an activity she loves.

How to donate:

Go to Josh's Facebook Page click the Fundraiser Donation

Go to GOTRKC Facebook Page and click the Donate Button

Go to GOTRKC website to donate

You can also Text to donate by text “give $XX” to 913-225-8615

If you don't know about girls on the run you can go to our First two Interviews with Gina Lichte Linked Below to hear more about all the excited things that GOTRKC is doing for the community and also about Gina herself. Click here for that episode

Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Every year their organization purchases every girl that participates new pair running shoes to help support and boost the confidence of their girls.

EP. 26 - How To Turn Small Jobs Into Big Customers

EP. 26 - How To Turn Small Jobs Into Big Customers

In this episode Josh talks about how he met Bret Springs, who is part  of the Back Napkin Restaurant Group and owner of a couple amazing restaurants throughout Kansas City like The Rockhill Grille, County Road Ice House, Parkway on the Plaza, and many others. Through a series of small jobs, Empowered  got the opportunity to take a big swing at all these restaurants. Even the office space on the Forth floor of the Rockhill where Empowered Electric was located for almost two years had only transpired by Josh saying yes to a small job that others overlooked. For those of you who are struggling to find the big customers you are wanting to work with, understand  that you have to start small and say yes to opportunity. If you haven't realized by now, EVERYTHING IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Enjoy.

EP. 22 - Loyalty Isn't An One-Way Street

EP. 22 - Loyalty Isn't An One-Way Street

In this EP, Josh shares a story about one of the first jobs Empowered Electric landed with Oakwood Contractors. Many times in the service industry, people capitalize off of fear and desperation as a sales tactic to make the most money off a single job. However, right from the jump Josh knew that wasn’t the path Empowered was going to take. Instead, he began to build Empowered as a company that is not about making that quick buck, but more about building relationships through loyalty. Everybody wants loyalty from their customers right? That’s kind of a no brainer but loyalty goes both ways and in order to get what you want, first you must give it. Listen in how Josh’s loyalty approach turned a small job into not just a big customer of ours but, a loyal customer and a great friend. Enjoy.

EP Interview 3 - Who Is Shane Fowler with Mindmade?

In this week’s interview we had the privilege to sit down with Shane Fowler, the founder of Mindmade. Mindmade is an architectural firm that designs some of the most mind blowing and unique spaces right here in Kansas City. Before we get into the grit of what Mindmade is, this week is all about Shane. One thing I always find interesting about some of the coolest people I know, is they are clueless to how cool they are and for how smart Shane is.. the guy has no idea. EP. 20 - You Better Read Your Emails

Before you start this episode you better grab some water because this weeks EP is fire! Josh describes how he learned to climb the ladder without pulling others down to get ahead. So many times I have been told the top is a lonely place, but it doesn't have to be. It all depends how you treated those around you along the way. Also, learn how reading a simple email lead to the level up of up a lifetime. As we wrap up the second series of stories, be thinking about what the next step up the ladder looks like for you. Are you spending time with the right people to help you get where you want to be and what are you willing to do to get to that point? Listen now and let us help you. Always. Stay. Moving.

EP Interview 1 - The Woman Behind Girls on the Run Kansas City

Joining us today to help kick off our first  E⚡️P interview is Gina Lichte (@gina_lichte) Executive Director of Girls On the Run of KC.   Gina grew up as a small town farm girl from Lexington, Missouri. As a young girl, Gina always knew that not one specific thing was meant for her. She has always been educated through role models around her that the world is endless. Whatever you want to do, you can do it regardless of sterotypical roles.  In this interview listen to find out how Gina’s passion for learning transcends years later into helping educate young girls today the same thing she was brought up to believe.  Girls on the run (@GOTRKC) is a non-profit organization that serves 4,500 girls a year in the Kansas City area by inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun experienced based curriculum which creatively integrates running.  This program is a 10 week curriculum that starts in the spring ends in the fall. In this program GOTRKC teaches girls skills about themselves like how to be confident, how to be a better friend with others, and how to use their voice. The Organization also teaches them how to be a better global citizen by teaching them how to give back to the community and be accountable all the while learning through running and actives. At the end of the season they have a huge celebration with a 5K run.

EP. 14 - It's The Hunger That Drives You

EP. 14 - It's The Hunger That Drives You

Most of our heroes are dead and sadly we killed most of them. We’re so quick to replace them. We're so quick to point out flaws and judge them so harshly we never give them a second chance. This is mostly because we look for them to be perfect to be the hero that rides in and save the day by fixing all our problems, kills all our enemies, and makes everything right. The problem is they are people with flaws. They are imperfect, much like us rather than looking for people to be everything you need in this world. That was when I was really down and out, when I was really lost, when I was really confused and not fix all my problems would be an example of what possibly could be an awesome dad, a loving husband, a great business owner, and a great friend. This EP we talk about my hero and the massive positive impact it had on my life. I hope you have people in your life to push you to be better, to push you to level up. Enjoy.

EP. 13 - Driving Toward Success

EP. 13 - Driving Toward Success

In the E⚡️P we are talking about who you are, where you are from, and where you are going.
It’s crazy where the road of success can lead you, location wise, relationship wise, personality wise. We are all adapting, growing, and moving… but how do we know if we are going the right direction? What if you get somewhere and it’s not where you want to be or who you want to be? For me, it took thousands of miles, delivering the wrong car, becoming a used car sales man that never got to sell a car to realized where my heart truly was. Hope this puts a smile on your face and a dream in your mind… by far the funniest E⚡️P to date!
