68 | The 5/15/80 FOCUS RULE
Are you FOCUSING too much on the WRONG stuff? I know I did for a very LONG time. Years back I let negative self-talk run the show. It can destroy you. Stop and ask yourself, "What do I typically think about most?" Possible failure? All your doubts and fears? Things that you DON’T want? It’s said that you get what you FOCUS on most. Is this true? I believe so. So why not just focus on the POSITIVES then? If it were only that easy... While you certainly don’t want to focus on negative shit, you still gotta acknowledge it and know it’s there. Let it scare ya a wee bit, but move on from it and focus on what you DO want. But don’t only think about what you want, TAKE THE MASSIVE ACTION NEEDED TO MAKE IT BECOME A REALITY. == In comes the 5/15/80 FOCUS RULE == 5% - Acknowledge the Negatives 15% - Pinpoint the Positives 80% - TAKE MASSIVE F*CKING ACTION IN THE NOW (aka PRESENT) Most dads I talk with have it ass-backward... 80% of their focus is spent on negative shit thy DON’T And only 5% of their focus is on the action. When you make the switch your life will change ⠀ If anything, just think about what you want, then go f*cking DO THE WORK to get it. Simple right? 66 | EARNING Your Comfort Through DISCOMFORT
Yesterday was day #1 of our “Summer Games” 5 week competition we’re having inside the Forged Father. We took on the “Bodyweight Gauntlet”, which is a classic benchmark test I created nearly 10 years ago that I’ve put 1000’s of athletes through. It’s a simple test, but it’s NOT easy. Just like any hard workout, it pushes you both mentally and physically. You’ll go through and experience some DISCOMFORT. When in the moment, it’s not always “fun”, but what’s FUN is what comes AFTER finish… When you know you gave it all you had and you pushed yourself through the discomfort, it’s an amazing feeling. It’s from that we EARN COMFORT. Let me explain a bit deeper… There’s been a number of times I can specifically remember how UNCOMFY a workout was that brought me so much comfort in the end because I was willing to embrace and endure the discomfort during the workout. One of the most memorable times was from the 2018 Crossfit GAMES. The event was 2 rounds of the following… 1000m Row 750m Ski 50 Double DB Front Squats @ 50 lbs It was absolutely BRUTAL. I was in extreme DISCOMFORT just after the 1st round and my mind so badly wanted to give up and quit. But it was in that moment when I embraced the discomfort and pushed through, that I earned COMFORT. Once the event was done and I finished, I couldn’t have been more fulfilled. This to me is COMFORT. Had I given in and rested in the middle of the workout or slowed down because of the pain, the discomfort would have stayed because I’d know in my mind I didn’t give it my all. In that event, I didn’t back down from the discomfort. I didn’t allow myself to become a COWARD from the fatigue. Instead, I stayed right there in the fire and pushed myself to the brink of my physical capacity. To be honest, I could’ve finished dead last in the workout and I still would’ve been fine because I knew I had given my absolute best effort possible. That’s COMFORT. And this whole mindset of “EARNING YOUR COMFORT”, it just doesn’t apply to fitness. It applies to just about EVERYTHING within life. When you’re unmotivated or too tired to do this or that so you take the easy road out and skip it… That’s taking the easy road and the easy road will only lead to DISCOMFORT later on. Think about it. Every time you quit on yourself and give in to instant gratification, it always comes back to bite you in the ass. So, when UNCOMFY situations arise in life that make you think about quitting… Do you GIVE UP or do you keep pushing ahead? I’ll tell you now and I’m sure you already know… When you choose quick COMFORT and instant gratification in those moments, it only leads to DISCOMFORT later on. When you finally “get it” and it clicks for you, you’ll see DISCOMFORT as something completely different. In fact, you might even start to seek it out. EARN your comfort. EMBRACE DISCOMFORT. 64 | Taking A VACATION from Vacation
I just got back from a fun little get-away vacation with my fam. We went up north to Park Rapids, Minnesota where we had a nice spot next to a sandy beach on Long Lake. It was an amazing time and I thoroughly enjoyed myself while spending a lot of high quality, focused time with my girls. One of the things I’m most happy about? The fact that I didn’t do one bit of work while I was there. Years back you would have found me sneaking away to open my Mac book to “do work”. I’d be writing workouts, sending emails, checking in on clients, and working on projects because I’d feel like I’d be falling behind. If not that, I’d be freaking out about my nutrition and worrying about all the shit I was eating and drinking. I’d be more stressed when I was supposed to be de-stressed so when I’d get home from our trip I’d feel like I needed a vacation from our vacation :-) Not always the best time. This trip was so much different from any other trip I’ve taken with my wife and daughters before. I was fully present and relaxed the whole time (aside from when our daughters were fighting with each other) Best of all, I didn’t do one bit of work and actually “vacationed”. I ate what I wanted to eat and had a good amount of drinks and didn’t feel one bit guilty about it. While I choose NOT to go completely overboard, I certainly indulged myself with ice cream, pizza, chips, etc… Even though I was on vacation, I still made sure to get up early every morning before everyone else was awake to hit a quick bodyweight + kettlebell session outside next to the lake. I knew if I didn’t get in any type of training it’d actually give me anxiety so I made it a priority and got it done first thing in the AM before the day actually started. Plus waking up just as the sun was rising and getting in a great sweat in the great outdoors wasn’t something I wanted to miss. I enjoyed my time 110%. Why? What was so different? A few things... #1 - Being and Living in the PRESENT I didn’t allow myself to worry about “what I got to do when I get back home” or anything else that would pull me from my time with family. I just thought about being in the moment and actually ENJOYING my time. #2 - Embracing The JOURNEY I’m committed to a process which I know is a journey. A LIFELONG journey that’s going to have a lot of ups and some downs within it. One weekend or even a week “off” isn’t going to destroy all of my hard-earned results. It’s more so about the BIG PICTURE and the LIFESTYLE side of things. All of the consistent hard work, effort, and focused time I put in on a day to day basis away from vacations, holidays, and even “bad days” is what matters most. This is when the DISCIPLINE of it all truly pays off. When you uncover how it all really works and you’re able to embrace it all as a LIFESTYLE, that’s when things really start to transform. It’s about your habits and behaviors. Forget about the quick fix tactics and tricks that guarantee they’ll save you from your shitty bad habits and behaviors. They don’t work. Forget about the gimmicks and fads that only create short term results you can’t even enjoy. Start thinking about the BIG PICTURE and how you live on a day to day basis. This is what the Forged FATHER PROJECT is all about... Helping you create a LIFESTYLE that builds better fitness and health along with the balance needed to enjoy it all through better habits and behaviors. 62 | What TYPE Of MAN Are YOU?
As we continue to push forward through all of the craziness 2020 has brought us, I wanted write this message and ask you to think deep about something. Take a bit of time to find a quiet place so you can really focus in on asking yourself this simple question. WHAT TYPE OF MAN AM I? Are you a COMMITTED man who backs his words up with RELENTLESS ACTION? Or... Are you a man that just talks and only sometimes takes action when he feels like it? Are you the type of man who's going to strive to be ELITE? Or... Are you the type of man who's OK with "good enough" and accepting average? Understand this isn't a game of who's the strongest, leanest, fastest, or fittest man alive… This isn't about "perfection" or never failing or making mistakes... This is a game that only concerns YOU and how you carry yourself in life AS A MAN. A FATHER = LEADER = ROLE MODEL It's about whether or not you keep pushing forward when you fail and fall off track. It's about the commitment you uphold to the process. So again, I ask, WHAT TYPE OF MAN ARE YOU? "Too afraid" to push forward into the unknown due to fear of failure or self-doubt? “Too proud” to admit you need help and guidance point you in the right direction? "Too busy" and unorganized to chase your true dreams and accomplish you big goals? "Too tired" and unmotivated to take time for yourself to build your body up to be strong and fit? "Too LAZY" you push the snooze and accept a LOSS to start off your day in the AM? “Too angry” at yourself that you choose to be snappy and resentful to your wife and kids? Lots of questions you can ask yourself here and the answers you give won't be wrong or right. In fact, there are no wrong or right answers here, only HONEST answers. Answers about WHO you truly are. If you want GREATNESS for yourself, you'll have to EARN IT and be a certain type of man. A man that walks the HARD PATH. The UNCOMMON MAN. If you're OK with average, you won't have to do much and you can certainly settle for less. You can continue to skim by and do the bare-minimum “just to pass”, but are you truly OK with that? How much longer with you tolerate it? A lot of dads choose to live their life this way and it's OK if it’s truly what they want. But I know most dads that choose to live that way end up with REGRETS. So, which would YOU rather have? EARNED RESULTS from walking the HARD PATH or painful REGRETS due taking the easy route out and tolerating less than your best? Either way is FINE just as long as that's what YOU truly want for yourself. As for me, I want GREATNESS. I choose the HARD PATH because I know the easy path won't lead me to anything I truly want. I hope that YOU choose to walk the HARD PATH as well because I know everything you could ever want awaits you on the other side of that road. But again, this is a choice that only YOU can make for yourself. NO ONE ELSE... So, what type of MAN are you? 60 | SUCCESS Story: Chris B
I just want to send out some big props to my man Chris! Before Chris joined up with Forged FATHER, it wasn’t like he was sitting around doing nothing. He wasn’t laying around on the couch being lazy and “unmotivated”. He wasn’t eating a bunch of crap and stuffing his face with food. Chris was putting in the work and pushing hard, but despite being consistent with his training and “eating clean”, Chris just wasn’t seeing the results he had wanted. I know a lot of fellow DRIVEN DADS out there can relate to this. It's frustrating when you’re putting in the work but the RESULTS aren’t showing in return. For Chris, even though he was being consistent with his workouts and strict diet… His weight wasn’t changing. His body composition wasn’t changing. His energy still wasn’t the greatest. He wasn’t sleeping all that great at night. His performance within workouts wasn't the greatest. GOOD NEWS IS… When Chris joined up with the Forged FATHER, we were able to get him dialed in. We got him on a more efficient and effective training program. One that didn’t require him to train 2+ hours at a time, nor require access to a full-fledged gym. He only needed to train for only 30-45 mins, 4-5 days/week. Instead of trying to “eat 100% clean”, we got him to dial in on his MACROS and his overall food quantity. In turn, his energy went up, plus his performance and intensity within his workouts increased. Fast forward a few months ahead, Chris is in a completely different place. He’s dropped 20 pounds of unwanted weight and he’s now LEANER (despite now eating MORE food he’s ever eaten before on a daily basis). His energy is up and he’s sleeping better. He’s also more present and spending higher quality time with his family, even after he gets home working long hours as a LEO. 59 | 3 LIFE LESSONS From MURPH
I’ve been doing the workout MURPH every Memorial Day for the past 6 years.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ It’s a brutal workout with lots of volume that'll punish the body.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 1 Mile Run⁣⁣⁣⁣ 100 Pull Ups⁣⁣⁣⁣ 200 Push Ups⁣⁣⁣⁣ 300 Squats⁣⁣⁣⁣ 1 Mile Run⁣⁣⁣⁣ All in a 20# weight vest.⁣⁣⁣⁣ It’s all for a great purpose…⁣⁣⁣⁣ To pay honor and respect to a fallen hero of war, Michael P Murphy.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Not only to him but to ALL of the fallen soldiers of war.⁣⁣⁣⁣ They all paid the ultimate price. Going through an intense workout such as MURPH to experience pain for them is the least we can do.⁣⁣⁣⁣ The pain you experience in MURPH is NOTHING compared to what they had to endure.⁣⁣⁣⁣ But, it’s better than nothing and to me, it means a great deal to be able to pay homage to fallen soldiers of war somehow, someway.⁣⁣⁣⁣ To me, there are 3 BIG LESSONS a workout like MURPH can teach you about life.⁣⁣⁣⁣ #1 - Stand for Something MURPH and others like him all stood for something greater than themselves — FREEDOM⁣⁣⁣⁣ They stood for it so much they gave their lives to uphold and protect it.⁣⁣⁣⁣ In life, you need to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Adopt and LIVE by CODES⁣⁣⁣⁣ Codes like: Living with INTEGRITY To NEVER QUIT To Take MASSIVE ACTION To Take and Have 110% OWNERSHIP…⁣⁣⁣ Having CODES in life will mold WHO you are and help create and guide the actions you take. ⁣⁣⁣⁣#2 – NEVER OUT OF THE FIGHT⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣As the story goes, MURPH fought tooth and nail until his very last breath. 58 | MJ's SECRET Weapon [Thoughts From The Last Dance - Part 3]
I wanted to share my thoughts from the final episode of “The Last Dance”. More so, I wanted to address MJ’s ‘SECRET Weapon”. I do so within the newest episode of Forged FATHER FM HERE Off the top, everyone know’s that MJ was a superior athlete with his God-given talents. He could jump outta the gym with ease, he was fast and agile, and just an amazing athlete. On top of that, he was one of the hardest workers, fiercest competitors, and he wasn’t ever going to give up or quit. He was what you could call, “Mentally UNBREAKABLE”. His secret weapon? His ability to fully become focused and dialed in on the NOW. MJ’s closest friends and teammates would mention who he’s always in the present and in the moment. Many would comment that MJ never let the future or the past mess with the actions he’d take in the present. I AGREE. The PRESENT is what matters most and what you do in the NOW is all you can control. It wasn’t until I had figured this out for myself that things drastically changed for me. What really helped put this all into perspective was the book, “The Power Of NOW” by Eckert Tolle. I listened to this book when I was traveling to compete within the Crossfit Games in 2018. It had a tremendous impact on how I started to think from that day forth and I can tell you will 110% certainty, I helped me compete at a whole other level that week. In short, you can’t let the fear and doubt you have of the future or even the past have control over the actions who choose to take within the NOW. The NOW is the only thing you have control of. You can’t control what’s happening in the past nor can you control what will happen in the future. You can only control the NOW. So, what’s this have to do with YOU as a DAD?? 57 | Scottie or MJ [Thoughts From The Last Dance - Part 2]
Big situations call for BIG LEADERS to step up and do what they gotta do. I reflect on a specific moment in time when Scottie Pippen was given the opportunity to rise up as a leader but chose NOT to. So, what's this gotta do with you? What's this gotta do with being a DAD? Well, let it serve as a REMINDER. When you're a DAD, you're a LEADER. Your family needs you to be able to step up. Because they're your team. They depend on you. You get opportunities every day to step up and be the man you need to be for them. Simple things like… Working out when you don't want to or feel tired. Fueling your body better when you'd rather just eat like sh*t Playing with your kids at the end of a LONG day when you're completely exhausted Following through with your COMMITMENTS, especially when you had SAID you'd do something Jut simply being there for your family when then need you most. This includes doing the things YOU need to do to be at your BEST for them. So, when you shrug stuff off and "take a seat", you're dropping the ball. Not only for yourself but your FAMILY. All of this is just another way for you to shift your perspective and mindset so you can think about things a bit differently. If it gets you to take more consistent action, great. 56 | DAD Obligations [Thoughts From The The Last Dance - Part 1]
I got chills (again) while watching the latest episode of "The Last Dance". It was the part when Tim Grover, Jordan's personal trainer, was talking about what Michael had said to him after they lost to the Orlando Magic in the playoffs the year he returned back to the game. Michael said, "I have an obligation" That's all I needed to hear to get the hairs on the back of my neck to shoot straight up. I dig into how this connects with YOU being a DAD. 55 | You Don't Have To Do ANYTHING...
Not sure where I first heard this, but when I did, it created a MASSIVE MINDSET SHIFT in how I started to think and put certain things into perspective. It's a simple concept really… Instead of always saying, "I have to" do this or I "have to" do that, start saying, "I GET TO." Let me share a story with you about this. I caught myself in the "I HAVE TO" mindset just a few days back. As the world begins to "reopen" during this Pandemic, I was laying out the plans for what that's going to look like in my gym. There's a LOT of changes that'll need to be made as I start to bring athletes back in. The experience is going to be different. There are new rules to follow, and it's going to take a lot of work. So, as I started to look into the things that'll need to be done, I found myself getting frustrated, stressed, and a bit overwhelmed. I need more cleaning supplies, most of everything's sold out… We won't be able to use certain pieces of equipment because of the "social distancing" requirement… There's a limitation on how many people can attend sessions… So as I started to dig into all of the changes, I found myself saying, "I have to" which quickly put me into a negative mindset. Luckily, I caught myself and changed things up. I said I don't have to do any of this... I GET TO. 53 | The Quarantine Journal Challenge
Yesterday I sent out a message talking about keeping a “Quarantine Journal” to my newsletter. Think of it as something to help keep you accountable and on track during these crazy times where you might feel like things are spiraling out of control. I believe keeping a journal is important to help keep you focused and dialed in on consistent growth and forward progress. Plus it serves as a great form of personal accountability. With this, I had several guys reply asking me what my journaling looks like and what I focus on doing. There are 3 parts to my journaling… “GPR” #1 - Gratitude - First thing in the AM  At the beginning of this year, I changed things up a bit, and I started to keep a gratitude journal that has been focused on my wife. Every AM, I think about what I remembered most about her from the day before, and that’s what I write down. On Valentine’s Day, one of the gifts I gave her were the entires I had been adding in since the beginning of the year, which made for a fantastic present. Can’t wait to give her the journal next V-Day :)  #2 - The Daily Attack Plan After I complete my AM gratitude piece, I look ahead at the day, and I write down a couple of key things I need to get done. These serve as “mini-goals” that get me dialed in on what needs to be done. Then I plan accordingly so I can attack the day with clarity and get shit done. #3 - Reflection / Daily Close Out To finish things out, I always take a bit of time to sit down and REFLECT on how the day turned out. Did I complete the key things I had planned out earlier in the day? What were my WINS? What were the LOSES/LESSONS? Then I quickly glance over the next day and layout some key targets that I’ll revisit in the AM when I dig into my Daily Battle Plan. And I repeat that daily. GPR = Gratitude - Plan - Reflect This helps create a lot of clarity and focus that in turn helps build momentum. Every few weeks, I’ll look back at past entries to see how much I’ve gotten done over time, which helps create more awareness on growth. If you neglect to do this every so often, it’s easy for you to get caught up in things and forget about how much you might have accomplished in just a short period of time. When you overlook the small things, it can lead to a negative mindset that gets you stuck. At the same time, if you’re NOT keeping yourself in check with some sort of journaling, it’s easy to fall off track and drift away from where you’re trying to go. Wherever that may be, use journaling to help guide you forward. So, as I said in my last message, I CHALLENGE YOU to start keeping a journal. Even if it’s a simple daily entry with a small reflection of the past day, it could make a huge difference for you. 51 | Revisiting DISCIPLINE over motivation
If you've ever wondered WHY you can't seem to stay on track or why you just can't seem to push over the hump so you can achieve the specific results you desire, consider for a second it's NOT due to you not being "motivated". It's a game of DISCIPLINE. Your success or lack thereof will always be a direct reflection of how DISCIPLINED you are, not how "motivated" you are. With the Coronavirus hammering down hard causing the "norms" of life for most of us to change, it's time to evolve and adapt to a NEW NORM. 46 | Embarrassing...
Do you ever feel embarrassed about how much you've let yourself slip? I want to share some bits and pieces of a conversation I had with a fellow busy dad just a few days back. I want to share this with you because the key message of this could drastically have an impact on your life should you be in the same situation as this DAD. For Joe (not his real name), he's never been more embarrassed about how badly out of shape he's allowed himself to get. At just 36 years young, Joe is now 45 lbs overweight, never has energy for much of anything outside of work, and he hates the man he sees in the mirror. What's made Joe so embarrassed is the fact that he used to play baseball in the MLB. For 8 years Joe played for a couple of different teams and was a STUD. You don't make it into the MLB by mistake. Either way, since Joe finished his career and was done playing about 2 years back, things drastically transformed. He stopped working out. He no longer eats very well. He hardly ever has any sort of motivation to be active. Even when it comes to going outside with his two boys, it's a struggle for Joe to muster up the drive to do so. He knows a LOT of it has to do with the weight he's put on. His body has changed since his playing days. Muscle has gone away and been replaced with flabby fat. His arms used to fill his sleeve and now, not so much. Joe used to be excited to go to the beach and the pool but now, he's become the dad who KEEPS HIS SHIRT ON. This is where Joe told me he was EMBARRASSED about how much he's let himself go. Knowing what he has once looked like years ago as a professional athlete to now was hard to deal with. Joe's been letting that embarrassment hold him back from taking the action he knows he needs to take to get back on top. It's nothing but a STORY inside of Joe's head. And maybe it's a story that YOU have going on inside your own head?? So you let yourself go?? WHO CARES! Do what you gotta do to get back on top! Don't let the fact that you slipped up and fell off track DEFINE YOU. If used to be a STUD...rise up and become the man again. The honest TRUTH is this... NOTHING is holding you back other than YOUR DAMN SELF. Once you can 'man up' with this, that's when you'll make a big change. Until then, you'll always be "too busy", "too out of shape", "too embarrassed"... Good thing is, Joe's decided to finally stand up to that 'story' and he's going to get back his edge. I'm looking forward to his transformation. And if you're in a similar position as Joe, I look forward to YOUR transformation. You just gotta be ready and willing to rise up against the BS STORY you have running through your head. 45 | Live With MORE URGENCY!
In this day and age, it's surprising how much TIME men waste. The typical thought? I'll do it tomorrow... I'll do it next week... Well, what if TOMORROW doesn't come? What if next week doesn't come? Then what? I bet you'd TAKE MORE ACTION. I bet you'd live with some more URGENCY. Do you want to finally lose the unwanted weight you've put on after you've become a DAD? Do you want to get back your energy and the drive so you can be more and do more like a MAN? Do you want to get back the confidence that you once had years back? Well, you have to TAKE ACTION to EARN those OUTCOMES. Should you continue to put things off, don't expect anything to change anytime soon. 44 | Facts > feelings
In life, both facts and feelings MATTER. FACTS matter the most though... WHY? Facts are the TRUTH. The numbers. Facts are what is. Too many guys I talk with get too caught up in the FEELINGS and they don't pay enough attention to the facts. Feelings can FUCK YOU UP. It's like you hit a workout and you have an amazing performance. Facts wise, you got BETTER (RESULT). Feelings wise, you feel like you got WORSE. Inside The Forged FATHER Project I have my guys complete an important task every Sunday where we track the WEEKLY FACTS. We look at the key areas within our lives and take note of the numbers. Things like... Daily MACRO Intake (NUTRITION) Daily Workout Stats (FITNESS) Daily Gratitude (MINDSET) Daily Outcomes / Actions (PLANNING) Daily Connection (RELATIONSHIPS) There's a system I created to track FACTS in each of these areas. When we track the FACTS and IMPROVE on the facts, RESULTS HAPPEN. When you don't look at the facts, there is where guys find themselves in a funk feelings wise. FUCK YOUR FEELINGS. If you're constantly run-down every day and don't 'feel' motivated, facts probably say you're NOT working out consistently or at all. You can feel as bad about it as you want, but until you FIX THE FACTS, nothing will change. Get my drift? Feelings are great and all, but FACTS matter the most. You want to make an actual change and almost guarantee RESULTS, dig into the facts. Stop letting your feelings run the show. FIX THE FACTS. 43 | You’re NEVER “Too Old”
So I wanted to do a quick recap on the Crossfit Competition I did a few weeks back with my buddy and teammate, Andy Janzen. We were able to WIN the Masters Division at the “Crossfit Circuit” that’s an annual event that’s been getting put on for the past 6 years. There were a total of 40 teams in our division and 450 athletes overall in the whole event. CRAZY… It was a FUN weekend filled with a lot of highs and I was thrilled to be a part of it and most of all, to WIN IT! Felt good to stand on top of that podium. But this episode isn’t about the competition… It’s about the mindset of “NEVER BEING TOO OLD”. Truth is, the day you tell yourself that you’re “too old” is the day you start dying. 42 | DO Or Die Mentality
A few days back I was asked a question that I commonly get... "How do you it, man?" The question was referring to the drive and determination I have to get things done day after day. Here was my reply: "first off, I don't have the drive and determination EVERY DAY to do it"... The second thing I said was, "What if I DON'T do it?" This is a personal question I ask myself often... "What if I DON'T do it?" When it comes down to it, it's "DO OR DIE". Literally. I'm the man for my family. I have to supply for them so I have to best my damn best. I have a gym with lots of people and many many men inside of The Forged FATHER who depends on me showing up for them. This isn't about "motivation"... This is about doing the work I must get done because it's DO OR DIE. DO OR FUCKING DIE... In all honesty, that's the reality... Think about it. What if your life depended on YOU actually completing what you needed to do on a daily basis... Do you think you would get more done? Do you think you would keep "waiting for tomorrow?" Do you think you would just continue for to bank on "motivation" to show up? You won't ever truly LIVE should you continue to wait and just run off of motivation as most men do. And while your life is likely not dependent on you completing the daily work that needs to get done, your success and overall happiness inside of your life will. If I'm not out there taking action and doing the things I love to do to help the people around me, then I might as well be dying... So go DO. Or DIE... Your choice. I choose to DO, and so should YOU. 41 | #mentalitymonday - Be On The OFFENSIVE
Let me share a bit more about this guy so you get what I'm saying here… This guy is now 37, weighs 345 lbs and is extremely out of shape, constantly run down, and to make things worse, he’s a single father. His drop off in fitness and his discipline to take care of himself over the past 6 or so years has actually was one of the many things that lead to his divorce. Either way, this guy used to be a monster… He played D1 football in college at a lean and mean 275 lbs. He told me, as a d-end, he was probably around 10% body fat or less back then and he could easily deadlift 500+ lbs, Squat 400+ lbs and move like a freaking receiver. Now, not so much. Now it’s just a chore for this guy to chase after and play with his kids. It’s been mentally “defeating” in his words and I can understand where he's coming from perfectly. To go from being “the man”, playing D1 college football at the highest level to now, having a gut and being extremely out of shape, that has to be tough to deal with. This man has clearly lost that EDGE he used to have and now, he’s been struggling to get it back. And it’s mainly due to him being on the “defensive”. He's been on the defensive now for the past few years. He runs off of motivation and only works out when he feels like it. On the days where he’s not motivated (which happens to be most days), he doesn’t do anything and this causes him to drift back into his bad habits. This same defensive type of mindset has also put him into a “scarcity” type of lifestyle. He’s afraid to fail. He’s sick and tired of losing because nothing he does seems to ever work. And again, I get it… If you’re so stuck and in a pit, it can be hard to think about what it’s like being OUT of the pit. But you can’t sit around thinking about it. You have to TAKE ACTION and get your ass back on the offensive. Most of the dads I talk to who’ve lost their edge are doing the same thing. They live with a SCARCITY mindset that's created from being on the defensive. They don't want to take any risks. They feel they will already lose because when you're on the defensive, you're playing NOT to lose... You're not being the aggressor and taking action. Instead, you're sitting back doing nothing. A lot of times, these same guys are the ones who don't want to invest in themselves in fear of failure and loss. They just don't have the confidence within themselves. Here's what's up... If you're in a similar position, you have to let go of the defensive mindset. You have to get back on the OFFENSIVE. You have to be a relentless action taker. A man who does what he needs to do even when he's not motivated to do anything. Your action will CREATE motivation. Your IN-ACTION will only keep it dead. You gotta be a man who does what he needs to do even if there's a chance he might lose. Because you WILL lose, but you'll succeed because you keep going and you stay on the offensive. Bottom line is this... You can't just sit back hoping and wishing for change to happen. You have to step up and just GO! It'll be tough. It'll be a battle, but you have to be on the offensive. 40 | Your Personal SUPER BOWL + KOBE The COMPETITOR
In this episode, I chat about the importance of creating a personal "SUPER BOWL" for yourself. A key takeaway is this... What type of event, competition, or special date can you set for yourself that'll create some extra pressure and leverage? This extra leverage and pressure will help make you take more focused effort and intensity. This focused effort and intensity will, in turn, drive forward PROGRESS and bring on better RESULTS. In addition, I talked about the loss of Kobe Bryant. The world lost an amazing human when we lost Kobe Bryant. The world loses a lot of amazing humans. Not just the 9 who lost their lives in the helicopter crash. I never was a huge fan of basketball as I grew up wrestling. Of course, even though I wasn't a b-ball fan, I was still a huge MJ fan. Because who doesn’t love MJ and everything he brought the basketball world as an athlete and an amazing competitor. Then of course whenever you speak about MJ, the name Kobe Bryant comes up. He too was an amazing competitor. Kobe was blessed with skills, but I believe his success came through his heart and commitment as a COMPETITOR. It wasn’t until I read the book, RELENTLESS, which was written by Kobe and MJ’s strength coach, Tim Grover, that I gained whole new respect for Kobe. After reading that and learning more about how much of a competitor Kobe was, I became an instant fan and would oftentimes think about Kobe when I’d be training and wanting to give up. Kobe was a “Cleaner” which in Tim Grover's words means: "Cleaners? They’re so fucking good that they make others study THEM. They’re the anomalies, the one-in-a-million. They’re the ones who end things. They’re the fucking cleaners." A cleaner is an ultimate competitor. Someone who will never settle for less or accept mediocrity. Someone who REFUSES AVERAGE. Someone who’s relentless in the pursuit of excellence. While Kobe wasn’t perfect and had his fair share of mistakes (like all of us) I feel he’s one of the top guy's that men should model when it comes to commitment and hard work. When I heard the news yesterday as I was watching the Pro Bowl with my youngest daughter, I cried some tears. Being a dad and hearing the news that one of Kobe’s daughters was with him made everything that much worse and it really hit home hard. You just NEVER know... TODAY IS HERE, tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. If I can leave you with anything for today it’s a few things... #1 - Be a COMPETITOR in life. Don’t let another day go by where you don’t give it your damn best to be your best. FUCK the excuses... Stop putting things off for "tomorrow" or "next week", for the "perfect time"... There might not be another time. Go out be your BEST RIGHT NOW, TODAY. #2 - Pull your loved ones close and let them know how much you LOVE THEM. Because... TODAY IS HERE, tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

38 | DON'T Wait For Jan 1st
Don't wait until Jan 1st... ⠀ You'll achieve NOTHING in waiting. You'll only be putting off the inevitable. Instead, TAKE ACTION NOW and use the days you have until Jan 1st to your advantage. 37 | Thanksgiving Week - Strategies and Tactics To Stay On Track
Thanksgiving Week! For a LOT of guys, Thanksgiving week will be the start to a long downward spiral to end out their year. Between being “too busy” and all of the holiday partying and feasting, they let that be an excuse to let themselves completely slip off the tracks. YES… it’s a busy time of the year, but it doesn’t need to be the cause of DISASTER for you. So, in this episode, I give you a full layout of HOW you can approach the week to keep yourself on track from a nutritional and training standpoint. Take note that this isn’t about some special diet or workout bullsh*t… “Special diets” and workouts don’t work. What works is a solid sustainable PLAN that you follow throughout the year. When you have a solid plan that serves as your FOUNDATION, you can then build upon that foundation with certain tactics and strategies throughout the year when holidays and special events come up. 36 | Going 110% ALL IN - Tony's Success Story
When you say you're going to do something, there's no other way to validate it than through your consistent and relentless amount of ACTION. My man Tony S is a prime example of what can happen when you Go 110% ALL IN on yourself and back up what you say you're going to do and DO IT. Just a month ago, Tony was "always too busy" for himself. He had little to no desire to do much of anything. He had hit the HEAVIEST weight he had ever been in life and it was, in his words, "DEFEATING". His confidence was at an all-time low and he was at his wit's end. Then, he scrolled upon an AD for Forged FATHER. He saw the picture of me and thought to himself, "NEVER...  I wouldn't be able to achieve that". He looked at the other before and after pics and started to this it looked too good to be true... He then thought the program itself might have been a SCAM. Or it was probably just some sort of gimmick, after-all, Tony had tried P90x's, T25, and Insanity...  He had a bunch of workout equipment at home... He wasted $5K on a home treadmill and workout station... How would this "Forged FATHER" project be any different from the other crap that was out there? Well, fast forward to today, Tony's beyond happy that he made the decision follow-through and make a change for himself. Just 4 weeks into the program, Tony has dropped 24 lbs and 2 belt sizes. He's now got more energy than ever and his confidence is through the roof! He's got a better connection with his kids as he's more active with them and he's actually EXCITED to workout and push his body every day. Long story short, Tony has got back his EDGE in life. 35 | Wyatt - Forged FATHER SUCCESS Story
Couldn’t be more PROUD Of This Guy I have a success story to share with you today. Let’s start it off with a quick before and after pic… LKHLKHK This is Wyatt and I’ll tell you, I couldn’t be more proud of this freaking guy. He’s the perfect example of what it takes to MAKE A CHANGE. When Wyatt first began with us 7 months back, he was in terrible shape. Not only physically, but mentally as well. He used to struggle with back problems to the point that it would be a chore just get up off the couch and walk to the refrigerator. On top of this, he was working 7-days a week to supply for his family which constantly kept him tired and run-down. It got to the point where he had to take time off work which wasn’t good because he’s his own boss. When he wasn’t working, he wasn’t producing. On top of all of this, in his words, he was an A-hole and not too pleasant to be around. He was constantly in a bad mood, snappy, and just felt angry and short-tempered. He wasn’t confident, his health was on the decline, and Wyatt was headed down a treacherous path. At his heaviest, he was 255 lbs. Then, Wyatt made an important decision. He COMMITTED to The Forged FATHER and went 110% on taking back control of his life. Fast forward to TODAY, Wyatt has lost 49 lbs. His back problems are GONE. His mindset has changed as he has more energy, he’s happier, and driven to take consistent action each and every day. He’s stronger, leaner, and fitter than ever. He was the WINNER of “The Forged GAMES” that we had just a few weeks back where over the span of 12 weeks, he LOST weight and body fat, but also got stronger and fitter in the process. In addition, professionally, Wyatt’s but his overall hours in half and is now making MORE money than he was before. Which means he’s now able to spend more time with family. All great things! 33 | SPARTAN ULTRA Beast SUCESS
I'm very pleased to say that I COMPLETED my goal of running a 30 Mile ULTRA BEAST Spartan Race. It took me 9 hours and 25 mins. I ended up placing 10th in my age group out of 70 other guys and 44th out of a total 456 other crazy mo fo's that committed to running this race as well. The total mileage covered was actually a whopping 31.5 miles. There were two laps that you needed to take around the course. The first lap was 16 miles and then the second lap took me on a bit of a different path that was around 15.5 miles. After the first lap, I was feeling amazing. You actually stop and have a "transition" period where you can grab food, rest for a bit, change clothes, etc... I hung out for about 10 mins and hydrated as best I could then took back off for lap 2. Then the first bit of cramping started to hit. Despite being well hydrated, at about mile 21 my body was starting to break down. Cramps started to lightly come on in my quads and adductors. Then my Achilles pretty much blew up on me. I've been dealing with a slight bit of discomfort for a while with my left Achilles and on the second lap, it said NO MORE. The pain was bad, but it wasn't debilitating so I kept pushing on. NO F*CKING WAY was I quitting. Why? Because I had SAID I was going to finish and it was a COMMITMENT I made a long time ago. The amount of time and effort I put into prepping for this race wasn't going to be for nothing. The commitment I made kept running through my mind as I hit mile 26. Just 4 more miles man... you got this... I can remember at mile 21 I had a HUGE bit of doubt come over my mind. Going up and down some nasty mountainous climbs and switchbacks, the pain in my Achilles was unreal and all I could do is "trot" but again, there was NO WAY I was going to quit. If I had to hobble for the rest of the race, I was going to get it done. When I finally crossed the fit pit and walked across the finish line I couldn't have felt more fulfilled. Thinking back to when I first signed up for this I had my doubts about actually being able to do it. It was so far outta my comfort zone. The FEAR was real, but it just goes to show you that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU COMMIT TO DOING. I say this is my "one and done" ULTRA Race, but I have a strong feeling I'll be back for another one soon. While it was one of the toughest things I've ever taken on both physically and mentally, it was FUN. We'll be having a large crew of guys from The Forged FATHER coming together next year in Big BEAR, California for our annual Forged Spartan Race weekend. We do these events because it creates more leverage and pressure for you to TAKE ACTION. It also creates more accountability for you to DO THE WORK. Had I not done the work I would have shown up to the race and got my ass whooped. In any case, there's a ULTRA scheduled for that weekend so I'll either do that or the BEAST. Good times ahead none-the-less. For now, I have to let my body heal up. I've NEVER been this sore and broken down. GO HAM!

32 | The Forged SUMMIT + Spartan Ultra Prep Week 10
So the Forged SUMMIT is officially a wrap. I'm drained mentally, physically, and emotionally after the 2 intense days I spent together with the men who attended the SUMMIT plus all of the athletes that threw down within the Forged GAMES. I'm happy to note that I hit my Back Squat goal of 450 and my Push Press at 275. I didn't hit my Deadlift gaol of 550 but I'm OK with that considering 515 felt easy. I just didn't want to push it knowing I've got the Spartan Ultra Race coming up this next Saturday. 31 | Spartan Prep Week #9 + The Crossfit OPEN
Things are really starting to get SERIOUS with the Spartan Ultra Prep. The Crossfit OPEN has officially kicked off which has only added in another crazy element into the mix. I hit the final BIG RUN before I start to tapper things off for the upcoming race... 30 | Week 8 Spartan ULTRA Prep - BIG FAT FAILURE
This past weekend I took on the final BIG run I’d be doing before the Spartan Ultra race hits in just a few more weeks As much as it pains me to say it, I FAILED. I failed to complete the workout I had planned. I had to call it quits after mile 13 due to some servers quad cramps. They were something nasty. Here was the set up... 2 Mile Run 200m Sandbag Carry 4 Mile Run 30 Pull Ups 6 Mile Run 30 Burpees 4 Mile Run - STOPPED AFTER ONE MILE 200m Bucket Carry 2 Mile Run Everything was feeling great until after the 30 Burpees I had some Goo’s and a few swigs of water then headed back out for the 2nd 4 mile run. Then... BOOM! My right quad locked up. It locked up so bad I couldn’t even bend my damn leg! LOL I had to sit down in someone’s front yard. I pounded on it with my fist a bit to get it to loosen up, but NOTHING… So I got up and started to hobble back down the hill I just ran up looking like a 87 year old man. After about 50 yards or so it finally loosened up and I could actually re-bend my knee. I continued to walk it off a bit and gave it another go. Made it about 400m and then my left calf decided to lock up right as my right quad locked up again only this time, it was the full quad and my right groin. I was DONE. No sense in trying to push through it this week as it’ll only push my prep back even more. I felt defeated and I felt like a FAILURE. BUT, I’m NOT a FAILURE… This is just a small bump in the road. And instead of beating myself up for it too much, I’m using this as a very important LESSON. The lesson? I got a lot of them from this session actually… #1 - HYDRATE SMARTER I drink enough water, but I need to make sure I’m getting in the minerals I need as well, mainly magnesium. Time to start supplementing with an actual magnesium pill. #2 - PICKLE JUICE Last week I drank some pickle juice the night before and morning of my training. Didn’t feel even the slightest twinge last week so I know that helped. This week, I skipped it to see how I’d feel. #3 - NO COFFEE Last week i skipped the coffee. This week, I had a cup and a half of coffee which I now know is a NO-NO. Coffee is great, but it will dehydrate you and if I need to be hydrated, can’t have it. I also had coffee before my race in Colorado and cramped up then as well. #4 - Chews and Goo’s I tested out a few different Goo’s and Chew’s for the big race. I’ll need to have some quick sources of energy when I hit the ULTRA. I didn’t take any sort of FUEL in until after I hit the first 4 mile run, I know I need to fuel up a bit earlier to ensure I stay energized. Also, the EXTEND chews I tried were plain NASTY. No-go on those when I hit the ULTRA. #5 - FASTING Last week I hit the 15 mile run up much earlier in the day so I fasted. I actually felt MUCH better last week VS this week after having a good-sized breakfast earlier. When I hit the ULTRA, I’ll be starting off even earlier so I’ll plan to hit it fasted as well. That means the meal I have the night before will need to be nice and hearty :) Again… LOTS of lessons to be learned from my FAILURE. But it’s just like any failure… Look at it as a LESSON and use it for good. OR… Take it as a negative and just see it as a loss. You'll always grow and get much better looking for the LESSONS.

29 | Week 7 Spartan ULTRA Prep - Fighting The RESISTANCE
This past week was a TOUGH one, but a SUCCESSFUL one on many fronts. The Saturday Savagery Session was simple, but NOT easy. 3 Round of...  A 5 mile run + 30 Burpees. That's a grinder. Took just under 3 hours to complete. One thing that kept popping up withing my mind was RESISTANCE. The resistance to STOP. The resistance that wanted me to QUIT. But I didn't let it. Instead, I rose up and took it head-on. IN this episode I share a little bit more on RESISTANCE and what it takes to get past it. Not just in workouts, but in LIFE. 27 | Week 6 Forged SPARTAN ULTRA Prep UPDATE
And just like that, the 6th week of Forged SPARTAN has been completed. This past Saturday's "Spartan SAVAGERY" session was exactly that...  SAVAGERY. Over Ten Total Miles were covered amidst carrying kettlebells and a stone over the course of the workout. Had I not had a solid training partner for this one, I feel I would have been over the two-hour mark, but my man Shane was there suffering along side me. Always good to have a fellow Spartan to suffer with. Things are starting to really get serious as we approach the Spartan ULTRA. 25 | Destinations Create ACTION
Things are really starting to ramp up for the Spartan Ultra Race coming up in October. The past Saturday's "SPARTAN SAVAGERY" session was a BRUTAL test to see how I'm coming along. Nearly 12 miles was covered within the workout and it honestly felt as if I had just completed the Spartan Super that I did back in July... My body was beaten down and it was a mental test like non-other. The workout?? Here's a look: 5 Rounds For Time 1 Mile Run 100ft Bucket Carry 800m Run 5 Burpee + Ring Muscle Up 600m Run 2 Rope Climbs 400m Run 200m Sandbag Carry Took me 2 hours and 12 mins to complete. I'm happy I didn't cramp at all and my calves held up nicely. Back in July when I hit the Spartan Super in Colorado I cramped up bad so I was happy I didn't experience any of that. Either way, something that I started to think about during the session were "DESTINATIONS" and how it's the DESTINATIONS that we create and focus in on helps us push forward. I dig into deeper detail within the episode. The question I want YOU to think about are the DESTINATIONS you have set up within your life. Back then I was still putting out a lot of programs such as "The Badass Body Blueprint" amongst other classics. 23 | You Don’t START Off As A BADASS…
You Don’t START Off As A BADASS… In this day and age, too many people want the quick overnight results. They may be willing to work hard for the first few days, weeks, and even months, but MOST people just can’t seem to stick it out for the long haul. When results don’t come quick, that’s when most guys QUIT. I’ll be the first to tell you, you don’t start off as a BADASS… If you want to reach “BADASS” status (which could honestly mean anything), you’ll have to EARN IT. You earn it with consistent hard work day-in-day-out. And you can’t STOP… You have to keep showing up. For me, as I continue to prep for this 30 mile Spartan Race, it’s hard pushing forward within the endurance game because I’m NOT good at it. But I know as I continue to stay persistent, I’ll continue to grow and get better in that realm. 22 | Five Miles The FORGED Way
It's Saturday which means it's "Spartan SAVAGERY Saturday". Every Saturday leading up to the Spartan 30 Mile Ultra Race, I've programmed in a nasty, physical and mental test. Each week has been getting just a bit worse and worse. This AM I hit "5 Miles The Forged Way" which is a simple 5 mile run BUT... You start with 10 Burpees, 15 Bodyweight Squats, and 20 Push Ups. Then, every 5 minutes thereafter, you have to stop running and repeat the same from above until you finish the 5 miles.It really starts to add up. I got about half way into it and the bodyweight movements no longer felt like "rest". It honestly became an all out war both physically and mentally. My legs were burning like crazy. My calves were screaming at me. Even my shoulders started to get blasted from all of the Push Ups and Burpees. I ended up finishing in an hour and 3 minutes. SLOW, but steady. I never stopped to walk. I never stopped period. Just slow and steady and that was the focus. NO STOPPING. NO QUITTING. People have asked me WHY I'm doing this 30 Mile Spartan Race in Oct??? I'm doing it for the test. I'm doing it to TEST myself. To test my body and my mind. To see what I'm truly made of. I'm NOT doing it to prove anything to anyone else. I could care less what other people think. I'm doing it to PROVE to myself that I'm capable to push through something that scares the shit outta me. Something that I've NEVER done before. This 5 mile run was rough. I can only imagine what those 30 miles are going to feel like... Bring it on mothafucka. I want the challenge. I want the test. As should YOU. Don't ask for easy. Easy won't change you. Take on the hard shit. The shit that forces you to change, build, and grow. The shit that shoves you right out of your comfort zone. That shit that forces you to raise the bar. Because it's either rise above and adapt or fade away and die. Push forward or quit. What do YOU choose? What are you doing in LIFE right now to PROVE this? 20 | The SLOW Grind And Committing To The Process
In this episode I update my progress in regards to the Forged SPARTAN prep I'm going though. I also bring up a conversation I had with a fellow dad earlier this week that really sparked the whole focus of this episode. With this, I discuss the concept of the 'Slow Grind" and how it's committing to the SLOW AND STEADY results overtime that help you create the MOST change in the end. In a world that's focused in on the quick fixes and instant gratification type mindset, you must set yourself apart by committing to the GRIND and accepting the PROCESS. In the end, the PROCESS and being on the journey is the RESULT. 19 | Motivation & Quitting + Spartan Race ULTRA Update Week 2
If I was running off of pure MOTIVATION, I would have QUIT by now... I've said it before and I'll say it again, motivation is a bunch of BULLSHIT. It's going to come and go whether you like it or not. And it doesn't matter WHO you are... You WILL find yourself UN-motivated so it's in those times you have to make a decision. RUN off of motivation OR run off of DISCIPLINE. It'll be DISCIPLINE that pushed you forward, NOT motivation. Motivation is nothing more than an emotion. DISCIPLINE is a way of life... In order for me to complete this race and hit my strength goals the week before, it's going to take a LOT of DISCIPLINE leading up to. 18 | The SPARTAN ULTRA Race + WHY You Must Make BIG DECLARATIONS
Coming up on October 26th I’ve committed to doing a Spartan ULTRA Race. It’s a 30 mile ace with 60 obstacles. Making this commitment was scary AF, but I’m ready for the challenge this is going to bring me. I’ll be changing up my training to prep for the race, but I won’t be doing it as most guys would. I won’t be doing hours of cardio or tons of long runs. Instead, I’ll be keeping my focus dialed in on STRENGTH and POWER with a solid addition of aerobic-based capacity work. To make things interesting, the week before the race, I’ll be having the Forged FATHER SUMMIT at my gym which will be a two-day event for the dads inside my VIP coaching group. We’ll be spending two full days together masterminding on all things kicking ass in life… On Saturday we’ll be doing a 4-event throwdown to test our fitness via raw strength, power, endurance, and mental toughness. My goal for the raw strength portion is the following… 550 Deadlift 275 Push Press 445 Back Squat (we’ll be testing the Front Squat, but I’ve made it a goal to hit 445 Back Squat) So, this means I not only need to be ready for this 30 mile race, but I’ve gotta be STRONG as well. I’ve already started to ramp things up, but I officially start “Forged SPARTAN” on Monday, Aug 18th. This is going to be TOUGH, but I’m excited as hell. But WHY?? The answer to that lies within the PRESSURE and LEVERAGE that will be created by setting the bar HIGH for myself. If your goals don't scare the hell outta you, you'll never be forced to grow and expand beyond the norm. I HATE the norm and I REFUSE to BE AVERAGE.
