1: Getting Started, Basic Account Setups

1: Getting Started, Basic Account Setups

0:00- Who we are, why we're doing this podcast, and why we care about personal finance. Meet to co-hosts of the show, Jack Saunders and Tyler Runnals. 14:20- Setting up a checking account. There are a few main thing you should focus on when deciding on which checking account you should open. Look for account that offer virtually 0 fees, especially look for accounts that ATM reimbursements, because paying for ATM fees really should no longer have to be a thing anyone as to worry about. Also you should be looking for an account tat as an easy-to-use interface, and one that you are comfortable using. 23:23- Setting up a saving account. This is the second most important account you should set up. When setting up a savings account, you should be looking for a bank that offers "high interest rates", which are around 2% - 2.5%. Secondly look for a bank that doesn't require an account minimum or any charge you any other outlandish fees.  Your savings account is a good place for your "emergency fund" or to save up for any other big goals. 32:23- Wrap up. A big tip is to not open your checking and savings accounts with the same bank, just so that you are not tempted to quickly transfer money in and out of your savings account. Also having these accounts with different banks allows you to not be constantly looking at that savings account number every time you go into your checking account, resulting in you almost forgetting the money is in your savings account, and not being tempted to use it.
