114. Fractional Job Roles: They Worth It? (feat. Marketing Advisor + Musician, John C Pollard)

This week Brit speaks with John C Pollard about the emerging part-time and project-based employment arrangements for leaders, known as Fractional Job Roles.

John C Pollard is a marketing advisor, professional musician, independent recording artist, and dreamer.

He spent most of his 30-year career in a variety of marketing and consulting roles for Fortune 50 companies like SAP and JP Morgan Chase, as well as for agencies and private-equity backed start ups.

John considers himself a life-long learner and has a soft spot for managing high-capacity creative teams. He continues to advise select clients on how to present a clear, consistent, and unique brand to the marketplace while he seeks to inspire fellow dreamers to ignore their inner critic and get after their craft.

Recently, John has doubled down on his musical calling, performing both professionally in a regional band and releasing his own original music. You can find his musical on all streaming platforms under “John C Pollard.” His works are in our show notes.

TIMESTAMPS:

109. Top Episodes: Possessions & Identity (Part 2): What Your Stuff Says About You (feat. Sam Gosling, Ph.D of Psychology, professor, author)

Today we continue our discussion in part two about the relationship between our stuff and our personal identities with Dr. Sam Gosling.

Sam Gosling is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas, Austin. He did his doctoral work at the University of California at Berkeley, where his dissertation focused on personality in spotted hyenas. His current research focuses on the psychology of physical space, how personality is expressed in everyday contexts in daily life, and in new methods for collecting data in the behavioral sciences. His approach is ecological, emphasizing the importance of studying individuals in the contexts of their natural habitats. He is an elected fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and Society for Personality and Social Psychology (or SPSP for short). Dr. Gosling is the recipient of the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution, the Carol and Ed Diener Award in Personality Psychology, and SPSP’s award for methodological innovation. His book, “Snoop: What your stuff says about you” which we’ll also discuss, is based on the idea that we deliberately and inadvertently express our personalities in the environments in which we live and work. Clarivate, which is global leader in providing trusted insights and analytics, have identified him as one of the most highly cited scientists in the world.

Summer Preview

Summer Preview

Hello Furious Curious listeners!

We will be returning with new episodes in June, including a two-part series of film phenomenons and what they are telling us about changes in culture. Part 1 will be first unpacking "The Return of Film Noir" with reoccurring guest Chase Domergue. Part 2 will be the "Rise of Comic Films and the Expanded Universe" with Courageous Comic writer Daniel Grussi.

Also to come, fellow writer Ben Santoriello and I will also be speaking to Sam Gosling about this book Snoop: What Your Stuff Says About You, as we unpack the dynamic between our possessions and our personal identities.

Ben and I will also be unpacking "Imposter Syndrome," this idea of an internal experience of believing that you are not as competent as others perceive you to be. All coming your way this summer.

Until then, stay curious.
