We've seen the climate crisis up close with fires in Australia. We've seen how a slower pace has allowed Mother Nature to heal. And we've all been shown the intersectionality of environmentalism with human rights. This episode means so much to me as I imperfectly strive to show up as a more kind version of myself, and I know I'm not the only one tryin'! So with that being said I am genuinely honoured to have Alice Aedy on the show today. I am a huge admirer of Alice's work as an activist and her creative work as a film maker and photographer. I am inspired by how Alice turns her emotional engagement into action. Through her honesty and relatable journey she accumulated a following which soon turned into a community. Together with her followers Clare has reset her relationship with money and spending. Beyond her own direct experience Clare was able to provide insight into the systemic and deep rooted issues that fuel the damaging relationship people have with money. Lauren-Nicole and I discussed how much weight we should put on our appearances and the tools she’s collected along the way to maintain her mental health when those self-sabotaging voices creep in. She prefers the term ‘body neutral’ than body positive and often encounters her own difficulties in owning the confidence that her content exudes. Season One, Episode Seventeen: Tash Crosby @talk_peach September is Gynaecological Awareness Month! Did you know there are FIVE gynaecological cancers? I did NOT. To kick off the month I was fortunate enough to spend an hour chatting with gynaecological cancer charity founder, Tash Crosby. The episode features Tash’s experience with having to fight for her diagnosis and what it was like getting through cancer treatment and coming out the other side. Tash started her amazing charity when she received her own diagnosis. With terrifyingly low survival rates Tash describes herself as a gynie cancer unicorn! The primary goals for Talk Peach are education and awareness, support, advice and fundraising research. She continues the fight for funding from government while prioritising offering connection to other womxn who are experiencing one of the five gynaecological cancers. Tash is doing an incredible job to educate the community on the signs and symptoms of gynaecological cancers in order to reduce late diagnosis. Don’t fear the smear!!! Season One, Episode Eleven: Daniel Edmund @danieledmund This interview, this conversation, genuinely moved me so much. Race and gender, toxic masculinity, identity and mental health are all topics I consider regularly and care about deeply. That being said, I learned so much from Daniel. I love this episode. Daniel opened the speeches at Bristol's Black Lives Matter protest that has since received global coverage thanks to the removal of the Edward Colston statue. It is this same spirit, passion and drive that has compelled Daniel to launch his own podcast called Race and Gender. His perspective on the intersection of race and gender is insightful and necessary. The social-enterprise he co-founded has progressed his nuanced understanding of masculinity, the confines that society puts onto men and how that negatively effects people in day-to-day life. Daniel is extremely honest and vulnerable as he talks of his own journey with teenage grief due to not feeling accepted. A lot of insight and fuel to want to make positive change. ALSO!! Season One, Episode Ten: Amber Sisson @ambersiss Amber Sisson joined me on the podcast to discuss period poverty and co-founding a charity, gender equality in corporate environments as well as the intersection of spirituality and activism as they present themselves in her own life. I appreciated discussing the role social media does and doesn't have with the Black Lives Matter movement and how we can focus on the positive energy that fuels us forward. Amber has been a huge source of inspiration for me and someone I continuously bounce off. Season One, Episode Nine: Sarah Baker @_smb_______ Following on from Part 1 continuing to discuss the layers of systemic racism, fetishisation and tokenism, desegregation, abolishing the police and so much more. Myself and fellow anti-racism activist, Sarah Baker, invite other white people to join us in dismantling our own deep rooted racist views, to unlearn and to do better in a bid to make positive change. In this episode we both share anecdotes of previously ruining family dinners and how we strategise now to approach these conversations with compassion. Learn with us as we try to figure out how to keep discussing these issues amongst other white people and have them join us on the journey. As always, we are rigorously honest and absolutely imperfect and still learning! We spent time really talking about some solution based tools and actions. We ultimately want oppression of Black people to be eradicated, but we can't wish for this to happen from our position of privilege and not do anything about it through action. The purpose of this episode is to call you IN not call you out. We are breaking it down so that together we can understand a little better and do a lot more. Season One, Episode Seven: Paige Aubort Paige Aubort is somewhat of a sensation in the Australian hospitality industry. Not only has she overcome personal battles to achieve the accolades and success that she has enjoyed but Paige turned her anxiety into fuel for her creative vision.
