S02.2 Challenging Educational Inequity: Shaheen Mistri's Story of Persistence, Struggle and Passion
Shaheen Mistri is a true visionary striving for all children in India to have access to an excellent education. Shaheen grew up in 5 countries around the world, she only returned to India at the age of 18. That’s when she transferred from Tufts University to study at St. Xaviers in Mumbai and started building the Akanksha Foundation to provide children from low-income communities the kind of education that would maximise their greatest potential. Today, Akanksha serves 9,300 children through their School Project and after-school centres in Mumbai and Pune.
In 2008, Shaheen founded Teach For India, with a vision to provide an excellent education to all children across India by building a pipeline of leaders committed to ending educational inequity in India. Teach For India directly impacts approximately 32,000 children across seven regions in India. Shaheen has also created projects like the Maya Musical, The Greatest Show on Earth and the Kid's Education Revolution which explore student leadership, creating platforms for student voice and partnership, and TFIx, which is a year-long incubator program for passionate entrepreneurs who are willing to adapt Teach For India’s model to their context and region in rural areas.
Teach For India is a non-profit organisation that is part of the Teach For All network. The fellowship program recruits college graduates and working professionals to serve as full-time teachers in low-income schools for two years. Their goal is to bridge the gap of educational inequity. For more information:

Introducing The Human Entrepreneur
Hi! we are Luke Netherclift and Varun Balsara and we are the Co-founders and Co-hosts for The Human Entrepreneur.
Our passion for entrepreneurship has grown immensely over the years and we have been fortunate enough to speak to some wonderful people along the way. These are the ones who have mentored, counselled and helped me through tough times.
The idea behind this podcast was conceptualised as a means to merge the gap between podcasts talking about entrepreneurship and a lack of those talking about student entrepreneurship.
The Human Entrepreneur is an attempt to bridge this gap and equip you with the tools you need to succeed as a student entrepreneur!
Through this podcast we want to support you through stories, expert opinions and conversations we have to become the best entrepreneurial version of yourself!
This project is all about giving back and this podcast is ours as much as it's yours. So always feel free to reach out with concerns, requests or even advice!
With love,
Varun Balsara & Luke Netherclift
