Last time, we wrapped up our 20/20 Vision Series featuring so many incredible guests! Their stories and insights were truly captivating! With a new quarter, its time for a new theme. Our theme for this quarter is Driving Change. With the recent changes in the world due to COVID-19, we wanted to take the time to highlight some of the people who are continuing to push forward. No matter what obstacles lie ahead, these people are determined to innovate, to be better, to drive change.

Our first episode this quarter features Ally Joelson, CEO and founder of Intego Sports. Ally is a first-year business major, whose passion for soccer led her to found a startup of her own. Intego Sports aims to create cleats for athletes by athletes. They are currently working on cleats with interchangeable soles that relieve athletes of the hassle and struggle of having to replace their cleats on a consistent basis. Today, we have a roundtable discussion with Ally our own Team Intrepid members, Arman Avedian, Maxim Dahan, and Ivan Dikov. Take it away guys!

As we progress through our vision, it is important to take the time to reflect and look back at what was accomplished so far. As we start to pursue our visions, there are often lots of new skills that we will need to pick up along the way. We have to be able to learn quickly and efficiently in order to prevent these skills from becoming a barrier of entry to our success.

The culture that surrounds ourselves is determined greatly by the rapport we build. Building rapport takes time, effort, but most importantly, empathy. In order to truly gain someone’s respect, we have to be personable and relatable.

Today I invited Kass Newton, a 3rd-year biochemistry major and ethnic studies minor. Through an internship with the Transitions Mental Health Association, Kass was inspired to create a podcast to provides a platform for people who have experienced marginal housing. Once we take action, we’re definitely going to need some help along the way. It’s really important to be able to communicate our vision to other people and build a culture that allows our vision to thrive.

Today I invited Brett Foreman, the founder of Kick-It Points. Kick-it Points is a mobile app that encourages users to engage in Real-World Social behavior by pairing local businesses deals with nearby activities and points of interest. Today I invited Lena Silberman, a 4th-year sociology major and ethnic studies minor who trains service dogs in her free time. Just 4 years ago, Lena founded the Cal Poly Women’s Rugby team, who today is ranked in the top 3 of the nation. With the everlasting amount of distractions in check, we can still become overloaded with the amount of work we have to do to achieve our visions. Building a vision takes time and a lot of effort. It becomes even more important to manage and balance this work to make sure we don’t fall behind. Today I invited Sierra Scolaro to share her experiences with balancing her life and work. A little about Sierra, she runs the Hatchery at Cal Poly and is the founder of a startup company called Wayve. Wayve is a startup focusing on environmental sustainability through a water bottle cap that can filter water from any source.
