The Story Behind Bonds in 2022
The Story Behind Bonds in 2022
Kevin Nicholson is the Global Fixed Income Chief Investment Officer and Co-Head of Riverfront’s Investment Committee. Volatility in the equity markets has made headlines for 2022, but that volatility has also carried over into the Bond markets. Josh Marson from The Perry Richey Group and Kevin break down what has happened to the bond market so far in 2022, and provide an outlook for the remainder of the year. Fixed income is generally considered to be a more conservative investment than stocks, but bonds and other fixed income investments still carry a variety of risk such as interest rate risk, regulatory risk, reinvestment risk, credit risk, inflation risk, call risk, default risk, political risk, tax policy risk, and liquidity risk. In a rising interest rate environment, the value of fixed-income securities generally decline and conversely, in a falling interest rate environment, the value of fixed-income securities generally increase. Municipal securities investments are not appropriate for all investors, especially those taxed at lower rates.
