The Patriarchy of Colorism: A Psychological War Against Dark and Light Skin Black Women

The Patriarchy of Colorism: A Psychological War Against Dark and Light Skin Black Women

On Saturday, June 20th at 11am EST, we will be coming with a discussion on COLORISM. "If you black, get back. If you brown, stick around. If you yellow, you mellow. And if you white, you alright." How many of us grew up hearing this from the oldheads? While the parable isn't as popular today, the sentiment is just as loud in our music, film, schools, and homes. Parents playing favorites, being proud of lighter skin children, checking the baby's ears to see if they would get any darker, and the preference for lighter skin figures in pop culture iconography. We're going to lay out on the table what it is and how it hurts everyone. Our dope panel includes cafe aut lait queen Aquiah Ma’at (Omitola Iyalaje), who is a renowned author, actress, and a fully initiated Olorisha to various Orisha “Divinities”. She is the Nene Umale (Queen Mother) at the Olokaigbe Priesthood/Temple, where she is part of a very special class of priests known as the Olookan, who use their high sense of intuition and direction connection to the Orisha to perform general life readings. Using her expertise she helps guide those seeking self empowerment and spiritual development, thus fulfilling her destiny as a “Path Finder”. Our bronze goddess Ashaki Omikunle Ali is a registered nurse, healer, writer, artist, intuitive empath, herbalist, Reiki Master, and owner of Divine Soul. Wilda Previl, the cocoa creme empress, is a transformational coach who uses astrology to help women identify and heal self-sabotage. She created Trapstrology to help you get off the roller coasters and finally step into the life the cosmos uniquely designed for you. Our golden lady of the gate Cheryl Hodges is a Brooklyn born, College Park raised real estate extraordinaire and conjurer. Sweet as pecan pie Rish de Terra is a roots woman who founded The 9 Minds Radio Show and authored the e-book Root Babies: Healing Our Children with Baths, Teas, & Recipes.  #blackwomen #healing #community #resources #mentalhealth #podcast #thelastwordwithnef #sweetwatercollective #motherwound #revolution #power #podcast #blackpodcaster

How Patriarchy Penetrated Our Souls: Deception, Abuse, and Corruption in ATR

How Patriarchy Penetrated Our Souls: Deception, Abuse, and Corruption in ATR

This, like every conversation we have, was raw and healing. It stripped the infected scab off for many of us, but only to clear out the infection, and then treat it with a salve of truth and nurturing, patched us up, and gave us the tools to keep on cleaning so the infection doesn't return. Community healing is the wave bc where else will you find people who can relate to your experiences like other black women? It's gonna be beautiful.

Healing the Mother Wound: Abuse and Trauma at the Hands of Our Mothers

Healing the Mother Wound: Abuse and Trauma at the Hands of Our Mothers

We laughed, we cried, and we bravely spoke our truth. People think this healing shit is cute until you're in the trenches of your trauma looking it head on. Start offering yourself gentle comfort and praise for your presence in yourself and commitment to healing yourself. We all opened up about our wounds and told our stories. We also shared the ways we've been working to heal the little girl who was traumatized by her first protector. On Saturday, May 30, 2020 The Last Word with Dr. Nefertiti was live and direct with the first episode, Healing the Mother Wound: Abuse and Trauma at the Hands of Our Mothers. This is part 1 of a series that discusses how the wounds we received from our mothers set up patterns of abuse to occur at various points in our lives and the ways we've had to re-parent ourselves to overcome them. Our panelists are Cheryl Hodges, a Brooklyn born, College Park raised real estate extraordinaire and conjurer; Efuntinibu Murrell, a master craftswoman, RN, and founder of Illuminating Spirits; Rish De Terra, creator of The 9 Minds Radio Show, Roots woman, and author of e-book "Root Babies: Healing Our Children with Baths, Teas, & Recipes"; Yaa Oyafunmike, Onifa, Master Teacher, urban pastor, and social activist; Chasity Khanyi Millen, goddess, energy practitioner, and herb alchemist with over 20 years in the game; and last but certainly not least, Rachel Robyn, a licensed cosmetologist, Allied Health worker, and Master Creatress. The Last Word with Dr. Nefertiti is a weekly podcast that centers black women and children on the journey of embracing health and spirituality in sustainable ways.
