Ep. 225 - AGM Rattler vs. Adder vs. Varmint Comparision
AGM has made a name for themselves by bringing multiple models of both handheld and rifle mounted thermals to the market that are full featured, reliable, user friendly and a very good value for the dollar. Now that AGM has three different scope model groups including their flagship line of Rattlers, the Varmint LRF and their latest release of the Adders in a traditional day time scope design, there has been confusion from consumers on the differences between them all and the often asked question of "which model is the best?". Our answer to that question is always "it depends". On this show Hans and Jason will go over the basic specs and benefits of each model and offer their thoughts on who each scope is good for. While this won't answer every question, hopefully it will help clear up some confusion on the different models and help narrow down the list for hunters looking to purchase a thermal scope to suit their needs. If you have more questions about which scope is right for you and your situation, don't hesitate to give Hans and Jason a call and they will be glad to help. Coming in a $2,499 the Talion XQ38 2.5x is a full featured thermal optic that offers something we've never seen before in this price category; a single removable/rechargeable long lasting battery pack. With an excellent image quality, focus-able lens and all the features you'd expect to find in a high quality Pulsar thermal optic, the Talion XQ38 is raising the bar and setting the standard. Ep. 223 - New Gun Regulations **Summer 2022**
Here on The Late Night Vision Show we take the 2nd Amendment very seriously. We do not like to see our liberties being infringed on by our elected officials and as voters and American citizens we feel it is our duty to vote for men and women who will respect and protect our freedoms. We also feel that it's our duty to make sure other law abiding citizens are aware of what is happening at the national level when it comes to new gun laws and legislation. On this show Hans and Jason discuss (mostly rant) about the latest gun related legislation that is making the rounds for 2022. Ep. 216 - Pulsar Krypton FXG50 Clip-On Thermal Review
On Episode #216 of The Late Night Vision Show Hans and Jason review a type of optic they've never have before.....a thermal clip-on. If you go back over 2 years ago to Ep.96 they released a show titled "Are Thermal Clip-On's a Good Investment?" where they discussed their general thoughts of clip-on optics. Fast forward to now and here we are with them reviewing the new (to the US market) Pulsar Krypton 640 resolution thermal clip-on. The Krypton has been available in the European market for over a year now but it's finally made it's way to the US market and there has been a large "buzz" surrounding this optic. Is it the killer of all dedicated thermal rifle scopes? Is it the best choice for every hunter? Hans and Jason answer all these questions and many more in this review, so if you're even remotely interested in the Krypton, this show is for you. Ep. 212 - Bering Optics Hogster Vibe 25 & Vibe 35 Review
Every once in a while a company has a fantastic product and they find a way to make it better by making small upgrades and leaving all the other great features alone. Bering Optics successfully did this with their new Hogster Vibe 25 and Vibe 35 thermal rifle scopes. The previous Hogster R25 and R35 were awesome scopes and wildly popular but they were lacking two features that many people wanted; internal video recording and wifi streaming. Enter the Hogster Vibes. All the same great features and image quality at their predecessors but now with video recording and stream capabilities and still at a very affordable price. The Hogster Vibes are set to become some of the most popular thermal rifle scopes on the market. Check out this review to learn all about both the Vibe 25 and Vibe 35 and find out which one is right for you. Ep. 211 - AGM Varmint TS35-640 vs. Varmint TS50-640 Thermal Review
Hans and Jason predicted that 2022 would be the year of the laser range finders (LRF) and that prediction seems to be coming true. This week they review two models of the AGM Varmint 640 LRF thermal rifle scope. These scopes have not only a LRF but also use an 18650 rechargeable battery, include an American Defense Mfg. QD mount, have great image quality, include video recording and wifi streaming....what's not to love? AGM is also known for their simple menu structure and ease of use in the optics and the Varmint LRF models prove no different. Laser Range Finders.....does everyone need one on their NV or thermal optic? Are they just all hype? Are they worth the cost? On this week's podcast Jason and Hans answer all those questions and more. The current trend with thermal optics, both handheld and rifle mounted, is for them to include a built in or add on laser range finder. Ep. 199 - InfiRay Zoom ZH38 Thermal Monocular Review
It's not often that we can say that an optic we review is "revolutionary" and trust us, we don't use that word lightly. But this week we will be using that word a lot as we discuss the new InfiRay Zoom ZH38 thermal monocular that is truly one of a kind. While providing a great 640 high resolution image, the Zoom offers two features that no other thermal hunting optic ever has....optical zoom and a shutterless calibration. If you aren't familiar with thermal optics you're probably scratching your head wondering what those two things mean. Ep. 175 - Pulsar Trionyx T3 Full Review
The consumers spoke, Pulsar listened and delivered. Today we review an optic unlike anything we've ever used or reviewed on this podcast. The Pulsar Trionyx T3 is revolutionary in the fact that it combines digital night vision and thermal imaging into one handheld device and then offers a 3rd option of fusing or overlaying the two technologies at once. A common desire for hunters, farmers and property owners is to be able to quickly detect an animal or a person at a long range and then be able to positively ID who or what it is once it gets closer. Up until now that required two separate optics, one thermal and one night vision. With the Trionyx, those have all been combined into one. Check out this episode as Hans and Jason give their full field review of this new optic and help you determine if this is the right optic for your needs. Ep. 172 - Scope Video Comparisions: Informative or Misleading?
When it comes to comparing two thermal scopes, one of the most common ways is to create a side by side video comparison. The problem with this is, there are so many variables at play that it rarely works out well. For instance, is the creator of the video biased? Did they intentionally or unintentionally manipulate the video, did they have both scope's settings properly adjusted, are they comparing two scopes that can even be fairly compared? This week Jason and Hans discuss the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to thermal scope comparisons, check out the show and see what you think. Also, be sure to stick around for the last segment of the show when Hans shares a very scary and serious situation he encountered a few weeks ago. Ep. 157 - The Handguns We Love

This  week Hans and Jason sit down to discuss their favorite handguns. They  explain what pistols they carry concealed on a daily basis, which ones  they chose to carry with them in the field hunting and also their  overall favorite handgun. While the topic a little different than  normal, they get a lot of questions about rifles, handguns, ammo and  gear so they thought they'd spend some time explaining what pistols they  carry and why. Ep. 152 - Scope or Monocular? What to buy next.
We get a lot of questions from podcast listeners and customers at Outdoor Legacy asking if they should buy a scope or a handheld monocular first. Or maybe they already own a scope but they aren't sure if they should upgrade to a nicer scope or buy a thermal monocular and keep using their current scope. Every situation is a little different but several of the same general type of questions keep reoccurring and we understand why....night vision and thermal optics aren't cheap, they are confusing for many people. Everyone wants to spend their money wisely, so they have the best possible setup that will insure them the best chance for success in field. No matter if you don't own a single night vision or thermal device or you already own more than one but you're thinking about upgrading, this podcast has great information that can help offer advice on the things you need to consider before making that next purchase. Episode 147 is another round of the “No Show SHOT Show” series and as we continue spotlighting the biggest and best brands in the thermal and night vision industry and this week is no exception as we talk about Bering Optics. This was a very tough decision for Hans and Jason when it came time to pick a winner but they were finally able to agree which one of these optics they consider the "best" for 2020. It's Thanksgiving, so our loyal listeners know what that means.....it's the time for the annual "wives episode" of The Late Night Vision Show. Pull up a chair, sit back and be prepared to laugh as the wives bring a trivia game back with more bizarre questions to try and embarrass and stump the guys with. But don't worry, Hans and Jason have a few hunting questions for the ladies that will test their knowledge as well. Ep. 130 - AR Pistol Braces and the ATF
We’re finally taking a short break from scope reviews this week to catch our breath and discuss a topic some of our listeners have been asking about. Recently the ATF has caused a large stir about the use of braces on AR-15 pistols and they even deemed a previously ATF approved pistol/brace firearm as an illegal short barrel rifle. Many shooters in the night hunting community use AR pistols on a regular basis and this recent ruling could open the door for even broader reversals of previous ATF approvals. Listen as Hans and Jason weigh in on this current event. Ep. 129 - Sightmark Wraith HD 2-16x Full Review
This week on The Late Night Vision Show Hans and Jason review the Sightmark Wraith HD 2-16x28 that was a surprise announcement by Sightmark in August of 2020. The Wraith HD 2x is the "little brother" to the Wraith HD 4x, which is the best selling digital NV scope in the country. We are extremely excited about this scope because of the lower base magnification and much wider field of view than it's counterpart. For hog and predator hunters that are mostly shooting under 150 yards, we believe this is THE scope to buy. The scope packs in all the same great Wraith HD features, such as full color HD daylight mode, a great black and white night time image, video recording, multiple color reticles and super easy menu system that is great for both the experienced hunter and first time night vision users as well. When it come to buying a night vision or thermal scope, it can be a stressful experience for many hunters. One of those worries is caused by the concern of something better coming out right after you finally take the plunge and buy an optic. This is an understandable concern and it leads to a common question: "When is the best time purchase a scope?" On this episode, Hans and Jason do their best to try and answer this question and admittedly there is no easy or magic answer. Ep. 124 - Sightmark Wraith 4K Max NV Scope - Full Review
We're back again with yet another scope review and this one has been a long time coming. In January 2020 at the SHOT Show, Sightmark announced the Wraith 4K Max that was scheduled to begin shipping in early Spring. What no one could have predicted is how only a few short weeks later the coronavirus would turn the US upside down. Sightmark announced they'd be delaying the production of the Wraith 4K Max until fall and they are now ready to begin the rollout of these new scopes. Jason and Hans have had a final production unit in their hands for close to 2 months now and have spent a lot of time using it and learning it's capabilities. To say this is one of the most advanced and best digital NV optics ever produced to date is an understatement. The amazing day and night 4K resolution image quality is like nothing we've ever seen out of a digital night vision scope. Listen as Hans and Jason tell all about the Wraith 4K Max, their opinions on how it performs in the field and who it is good and even who it's not good for. Pulsar Thermion XG50 - Breaking News
We’ve had a lot of important industry news on this podcast but we think this has the potential to be some of the biggest news we’ve ever announced here. On today’s podcast we break the news of the new Pulsar Thermion XG50 thermal rifle scope. What makes the XG50 so exciting is that it utilizes the BAE 640x480 12 micron thermal core. This is the exact same thermal core that Trijicon and N-Vision use in their high end thermal rifle scopes. But Pulsar didn’t just stop there, they did something that no one else has ever been able to do; they have included internal video and audio recording, as well as all the other Pulsar features, such as, a smart phone streaming app, picture in picture, removable/rechargeable battery packs, color pallets and more. We are honored to bring you this exclusive interview recorded at the Pulsar USA/Sellmark facility with Jeff Murray, VP of Sales and Chase Stephens, US Thermal Market Manager. Ep. 121 - Truth, Lies and the Internet
In this day and age, most people know they shouldn't believe everything they read on the internet. When it comes to thermal and night vision optics, that same wisdom holds true. While there are many knowledgeable hunters and NV dealers, there are even more who don't have the hands on experience and intimate knowledge to offer the expert advice that someone in the market for an night optic needs, however....that never seems to stop them. And let us be clear, Hans and Jason are NOT saying they are the sole source of good information because there are many other very knowledgeable and experienced hunters and dealers out there who can offer great advice as well. In this episode, listen as the guys discuss some of the pitfalls of getting bad information from the internet and how you can avoid that mistake. Ep. 119 - Rifle Calibers and Sidearms
This summer we've dedicated several shows to discussing common questions that Hans and Jason regularly get asked. On Episode 119 we dive into the discussion of what caliber that we're currently using as our main hog hunting rifles. Anyone who knows Jason or Hans well knows that they both love their rifles and they love to experiment with different calibers and ammo to see what they like best, so this week they tell what they are really liking right now. As part of the same discussion they talk about what pistols they are carrying as side arms while out hunting to dispatch any wounded hogs, coyotes or even snakes, in worst case scenario. Listen in as they offer their 2 cents on what they've found works best for their hunting conditions and needs. 2020 has been the year of thermal monoculars. This is our 8th monocular review for the year and it’s another really good one. This week we talk about the AGM Asp TM35-640. This is the first high resolution 640x512 resolution monocular from AGM and it’s a good one. Besides being a 2.4x base magnification with a great image, the most exciting part is the price. Coming in at $3,245, this is the least expensive high resolution thermal monocular on the market for 2020. Ep. 117 - How to Choose a Hog Hunting Outfitter
We’re back this week with another show addressing some very common questions that we get about coming to Texas to hunt hogs. Many people are curious about where to start when it comes to finding a hog hunting outfitter. When driving hours, sometimes across many states and possibly spending a large sum of money, you need to be informed on what to look for and even more importantly what to look out for. While there are many great outfitters in Texas and the South, sadly there are also some that aren’t quite so great. On this show we list many things you need to consider, research and questions to ask when beginning your search for a hog hunting outfitter. Ep. 116 - The Show the Listeners Demanded
Sometimes the smallest things can turn into something much larger than anyone could have ever imagined. This week‘s podcast is a perfect example of that. Several weeks ago Hans offhandedly told a story about finding what appeared to be a small fresh grave with a white cross in the middle of the woods on his family’s property, while he was out hunting one night. This turned into several weeks of podcast listeners begging him to find out what was buried there. Hans avoided the issue for as long as possible but this week...he finally gave in and revisited the grave. Listen to this episode....one of the most off topic shows we’ve ever recorded, to see how this story ends! Long time listeners of the podcast know that it’s become a running joke that the hogs and coyotes disappear every time Hans and Jason plan a hunt together. Recently they got together for another hunt and this time a plan came together better than ever.  If you enjoy hearing some hunting stories from a couple good ol’ East Texas boys with some good natured ribbing and joking, this is the episode for you. Jason and Hans retell the story of their recent hunt with only a few minor embellishments (all by Hans). A couple questions that Hans and Jason get asked a lot is if they use thermal drones for hog hunting and also if they've ever done any helicopter hunting. They believe most any legal means of effectively exterminating hogs is something we should keep in our tool box of methods. On this week's show they offer their thoughts on the use of both technologies for hog hunting and some of their responses are humorous to say the least. Listen to see what they have to say about this great new scope option in the Pulsar lineup.
