Episode 69. Ava Scarlet is back! Let’s catch up and see what’s happened in the last two years!
Hello, I'm Ava! A little about me… I’m a great believer that we are all here to serve a purpose with the limited time we have on this earth. Over the years I have truly transformed my life. From leaving home when I was 17 years old, living within my comfort zone and avoiding uncomfortable conversations to now, living a positive, abundant, FULL life. Over the past few years I’ve set myself goals that included personal and business achievements and I achieved them all, plus more! I have grown my small beauty business from my spare room into a recognized and respected brand within the beauty industry. I have employed staff, educated and mentored hundreds of students who travel from all over the UK (even from overseas!), judged lash and brow competitions, been a keynote speaker for events, and I have hosted events within the industry. Soon to start my degree in Psychology Counselling I am passionate about making a positive impact on the world. Alongside my multifaceted career I am also a mother and the things that make me the happiest are being in nature with my loved ones, exploring the beauty around me and sitting on my sofa dipping a Cadburys chocolate bar into a cuppa tea!

Episode 53. Joanne Lee. How your voice can change your business
Joanna has been a lash artist for nearly 10 years. Having been just shy of a decade her lash business has grown up with the industry as it has metamorphised through so many changes. Joanna is also a lash educator and has been teaching for about 3 years and is an accredited trainer for Darling Beauty. Joanna started lashing as a side-line when her children were young and whilst she was still working in television. Television is Joanna’s other passion and she went into the world of light entertainment having left university with an English degree. Whilst at uni she was a contestant on Blind Date and it was that whole experience which piqued her interest in television production and became her focus. Working her way up through the roles behind the camera including contracts as an associate producer she is used to writing, producing, directing and shooting broadcast pieces but what she really wanted to do was step infront of the camera. Finally, she landed a job as a reporter on BBC’s The Really Useful Show and also started to present for many corporate videos and live shows such as The Boat Show and The Good Food Show. She also co-presented a series on cable TV called ‘Show People’. Eventually, Joanna moved into regional weather presenting and presented for ITV and Channel 5 before being head hunted by Sky News and Joanna finished her TV presenting as a weather presenter there. Alongside this Joanna had a daily contract as a voice over artist for Bloomberg television. Voice overs are one of Joanna’s favourite things to do. Before lockdown, Joanna organised a lash event with Dionne of Love and Lashes and it was here that Joanna first spoke about her tips and tricks which she had learned over the years of broadcasting. During lockdown Joanna has taken this onwards and has begun to devise teaching in this area. She has already done some one to one classes for vocal and presenting mentoring via zoom and she is looking forward to doing workshops as well as one to one teaching and hopes also to create an online course. She is very keen to give people the confidence to speak to camera and to create voiced over pieces so that their social media accounts can be brought to life but also to feel more confident with communication day to day, be it face to face with customers or speaking to students or maybe presenting live to a larger audience. Recently, Joanna has also produced a series of podcasts called ‘Behind The Lashes’ which she is extremely proud of. It’s her little piece of social history, following 22 lash artists from around the world as they navigate their way through this bizarre period of coronavirus. Joanna gets such a buzz out of hearing people’s stories. The trials and tribulations. The highs and lows as they battle with fear, lack of income, lack of a sense of future and anxiety that this brings but also the incredible resourcefulness of these women and the numerous ways in which they inspire her and the listeners.

Episode 37. Caz Bargery. How Rapid Transformational Therapy can help business owners
Caz qualified as a Hypnotherapist & Rapid Transformational Therapist (RTT) having been trained by the world renowned leader Marisa Peer. She has always been interested in the mind and when it does not work to our advantage wanted to know how it can be changed. After she graduated from university with a 1st Class Hons in Psychology she then worked in the Pharmaceutical world in Clinical Research. She wanted treatments to help. She did this for 18 years and was really successful, working as a Global Manager supporting the business to understand the root causes of when things went wrong and then designed solutions to address those root causes. Fair to say Caz always wants to get to the heart of the matter. Now albeit Caz was doing great in her career she knew something was not fulfilling her. She suffered Post Natal Depression after the birth of her first child and at that point looked up RTT. She tried antidepressants, CBT and counselling. Sure they helped but somehow the pain inside was not recovered - she was surviving and was fed up being in survival mode and just having coping strategies. The RTT changed everything for her. She not only rid herself of feelings such as guilt, depression, low self esteem but also decided to leave her 18 year career to train and become an RTT Therapist. She dealt with her money blocks and fears to set up her own business. Never looking back, being grateful for the lessons from her past - she turned her pain into purpose, freed herself from the past. Caz's story was one of trauma. She grew up in a home with an alcoholic father, she and her brothers lived in fear, walking on eggshells the whole time. She felt alone, scared. When she had her first child all of those feelings of being alone and scared came back to the forefront and that was a dark place for her. She had numbed the pain out yet had not realised (until RTT) that the numbing had held her back, caused her depression and her self sabotaging behaviours e.g. her bad relationship with money, her bad relationship with drink, attracting the wrong people in her life. Caz's nature is non-judgemental and her purpose is to make those that are in that survival mode (depression, anxiety, fear of something e.g. presenting, business fears) feel good enough and to have inner compassion, remove that inner critic and the wonderful realisation that nothing is perfect as no one can be perfect, we are human and we make errors. Caz's job is to smash away those limiting beliefs, those harsh critical words we say to ourselves and create a self-love and compassion that will enable you to live life to the full! To thrive in all aspects of life and have abundance in life (love, health, wealth). She has seen client after client turn it around after they have worked on their inner critic and mindset. Episode 24. Carl Hinder. Business coach and sales genius.
Episode 24. My name is Carl Hinder and I am the ‘Business Coach’ and owner at Salon-Help. I started to formalise my salon coaching in 2015 after working with salons on a less formal basis for many years. When I had my own chain of salon’s I realised that there was no one to turn to when you needed a bit of advice, no one to bounce your ideas off, find that extra motivation when it mattered or just wanted to change direction. Even when I had great salon teams and fabulous managers it still often felt lonely, I would have given anything to have had a business coach or mentor. I developed many of my skills and much of my knowledge from my background in retailing, working at management level with three of the largest retailers and some of the best people and mentors in the UK. The move away from the corporate sector was perfect for me, and as I opened more salons’ I realised that you can apply well developed business skills to any business. It’s the same planning, people and communication skills, and above all else passion, no matter what your business is. When it comes to Salon business coaching, I know my background makes me hugely different form most coaches in my sector, I might be the right match for you if you are 100% committed to succeeding. I have never yet found a business that would fail, only salon owners not prepared to succeed. I will help you develop strategy and structure, but the rate of change is fast. I can come across as demanding, but that’s because I only want you focused on your success. I have done so many things over the years that help me, to help you. Author of the retailing book ‘Salon Products, Sell or Die (Not) Trying Retail management for 3 UK superstore brands Director of four salons Secretary and President of the Welsh NHF (National Hairdressers Federation) Operating a training company (that still exists) Working with hundreds of salon business’ Teaching Course writing Planning very large ceremonies and events, including the Welsh Hairdressing awards and the Welsh Hairdressing Championships Public speaking
