Episode 103. Vivienne Johns. Instagram Guru
I am not one of those lucky early adopters of Instagram who grew their following overnight without trying. I was a very late starter! I saw that my salon was struggling to gain new clients and I knew I had to do something about it, I knew that thing was to grow our presence online. I found I had an undiscovered talent for marketing coupled with being a natural educator. I put the two skills together to teach other hairdressers how to use Instagram to grow their business and realise their dreams of brand endorsement and educator roles. In 2019, I started working for a business coaching group where I was the social media coach. This is where I cut my teeth on educating hair and beauty professionals to use social media. In 2020, I launched my first course as The Hairdresser's Social Club! Since then, over 1000 people have joined my online courses. I have tried and tested Instagram techniques that will help you with your branding, your content, and your hairdressing and beauty business. Follower numbers are nice, but they are not a measure of your success on social media. Some of the salons with the smallest follower numbers that I work with have the best engagement, meaning their followers are their true fans. https://www.thehairdresserssocialclub.com/welcome?r_done=1 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐎𝐟 𝐊𝐆 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝑪𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒆, 𝑪𝒂𝒌𝒆 & 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑴𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 Grow your business with this membership group for salon owners or those that wish to become salon owners. Episode 98. Tom Chapman. Bring Suicide Prevention To Your Work Space
Tom Chapman may in fact be the busiest Barber in the World. After a decade working at Toni & Guy he founded his own hair studio in 2011 – Tom Chapman Hair Design, in his hometown of Torquay. He quickly realised that from inside the safe environment of his barbershop there was an opportunity to not only look after what’s on his customers heads, but also what’s inside their heads too. So in 2015 he founded The Lions Barber Collective, which is a group of international Barbers, that educate and raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. This life saving collective have grown into a huge global network, that trains Barbers in BarberTalk training, giving other Barbers the skills to listen and help customers with their mental health and suicide prevention. Leading this groundbreaking collective has led Tom to giving TEDx Talks and gaining coverage on National and International Television and Radio. All spreading the incredible story of The Lions Collective, saving lives along the way. And if that wasn’t enough, he has even found time to film an Amazon Prime Documentary. In 2015 he founded The Lions Barber Collective. After years of cutting people’s hair, Tom realised that there was an opportunity to not only look after what was on top of his customers head, but also what’s inside of their head too. The Collective started as a group of international barbers that wanted to raise awareness for suicide prevention, from within the safe environment of the barber shop, where men found it a safe place to talk. But with Tom being the driving force behind it, it’s developed to become much more. Episode 95. Carla Chatburn. How To Become A Leader.
Carla Chatburn. After completing my Beauty therapist training in 2003 I worked my way up to become a master nail technician. Continuing to work in salon, I competed in many events and even won the British Nail Technician of the Year Award. My passion of the beauty industry grew as did the desire to impart my knowledge and enthusiasm. I gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and began working as a lecturer. This was a fantastic experience and one that has helped me to ensure all our staff receive the highest level of training. In 2005 I opened my first salon in Accrington which I managed and worked as a beauty therapist. The success of this salon encouraged me to expand and now have salons in Clitheroe & Barrowford. All three salons are designed to be comfortable, intimate, neutral environments for a warm inviting atmosphere and offer the very best international brands. Over the years I have had the pleasure of treating the most amazing clients, for which I will always be grateful. After practicing in beauty Therapy for eighteen incredible years, I decided to leave the therapy side to my very talented team to focus on Pure Perfection business support. This allows me to keep up-to-date with new products and treatments so that I can train all staff in the very latest techniques. I am also excited for the opportunity to dedicate more time to our video tutorials, monthly newsletters and various marketing media. ………….. Episode 53. Joanne Lee. How your voice can change your business
Joanna has been a lash artist for nearly 10 years. Having been just shy of a decade her lash business has grown up with the industry as it has metamorphised through so many changes. Joanna is also a lash educator and has been teaching for about 3 years and is an accredited trainer for Darling Beauty. Joanna started lashing as a side-line when her children were young and whilst she was still working in television. Television is Joanna’s other passion and she went into the world of light entertainment having left university with an English degree. Whilst at uni she was a contestant on Blind Date and it was that whole experience which piqued her interest in television production and became her focus. Working her way up through the roles behind the camera including contracts as an associate producer she is used to writing, producing, directing and shooting broadcast pieces but what she really wanted to do was step infront of the camera. Finally, she landed a job as a reporter on BBC’s The Really Useful Show and also started to present for many corporate videos and live shows such as The Boat Show and The Good Food Show. She also co-presented a series on cable TV called ‘Show People’. Eventually, Joanna moved into regional weather presenting and presented for ITV and Channel 5 before being head hunted by Sky News and Joanna finished her TV presenting as a weather presenter there. Alongside this Joanna had a daily contract as a voice over artist for Bloomberg television. Voice overs are one of Joanna’s favourite things to do. Before lockdown, Joanna organised a lash event with Dionne of Love and Lashes and it was here that Joanna first spoke about her tips and tricks which she had learned over the years of broadcasting. During lockdown Joanna has taken this onwards and has begun to devise teaching in this area. She has already done some one to one classes for vocal and presenting mentoring via zoom and she is looking forward to doing workshops as well as one to one teaching and hopes also to create an online course. She is very keen to give people the confidence to speak to camera and to create voiced over pieces so that their social media accounts can be brought to life but also to feel more confident with communication day to day, be it face to face with customers or speaking to students or maybe presenting live to a larger audience. Recently, Joanna has also produced a series of podcasts called ‘Behind The Lashes’ which she is extremely proud of. It’s her little piece of social history, following 22 lash artists from around the world as they navigate their way through this bizarre period of coronavirus. Joanna gets such a buzz out of hearing people’s stories. The trials and tribulations. The highs and lows as they battle with fear, lack of income, lack of a sense of future and anxiety that this brings but also the incredible resourcefulness of these women and the numerous ways in which they inspire her and the listeners.

Episode 37. Caz Bargery. How Rapid Transformational Therapy can help business owners
Caz qualified as a Hypnotherapist & Rapid Transformational Therapist (RTT) having been trained by the world renowned leader Marisa Peer. She has always been interested in the mind and when it does not work to our advantage wanted to know how it can be changed. After she graduated from university with a 1st Class Hons in Psychology she then worked in the Pharmaceutical world in Clinical Research. She wanted treatments to help. She did this for 18 years and was really successful, working as a Global Manager supporting the business to understand the root causes of when things went wrong and then designed solutions to address those root causes. Fair to say Caz always wants to get to the heart of the matter. Now albeit Caz was doing great in her career she knew something was not fulfilling her. She suffered Post Natal Depression after the birth of her first child and at that point looked up RTT. She tried antidepressants, CBT and counselling. Sure they helped but somehow the pain inside was not recovered - she was surviving and was fed up being in survival mode and just having coping strategies. The RTT changed everything for her. She not only rid herself of feelings such as guilt, depression, low self esteem but also decided to leave her 18 year career to train and become an RTT Therapist. She dealt with her money blocks and fears to set up her own business. Never looking back, being grateful for the lessons from her past - she turned her pain into purpose, freed herself from the past. Caz's story was one of trauma. She grew up in a home with an alcoholic father, she and her brothers lived in fear, walking on eggshells the whole time. She felt alone, scared. When she had her first child all of those feelings of being alone and scared came back to the forefront and that was a dark place for her. She had numbed the pain out yet had not realised (until RTT) that the numbing had held her back, caused her depression and her self sabotaging behaviours e.g. her bad relationship with money, her bad relationship with drink, attracting the wrong people in her life. Caz's nature is non-judgemental and her purpose is to make those that are in that survival mode (depression, anxiety, fear of something e.g. presenting, business fears) feel good enough and to have inner compassion, remove that inner critic and the wonderful realisation that nothing is perfect as no one can be perfect, we are human and we make errors. Caz's job is to smash away those limiting beliefs, those harsh critical words we say to ourselves and create a self-love and compassion that will enable you to live life to the full! To thrive in all aspects of life and have abundance in life (love, health, wealth). She has seen client after client turn it around after they have worked on their inner critic and mindset. Episode 24. My name is Carl Hinder and I am the ‘Business Coach’ and owner at Salon-Help. I started to formalise my salon coaching in 2015 after working with salons on a less formal basis for many years. When I had my own chain of salon’s I realised that there was no one to turn to when you needed a bit of advice, no one to bounce your ideas off, find that extra motivation when it mattered or just wanted to change direction. Even when I had great salon teams and fabulous managers it still often felt lonely, I would have given anything to have had a business coach or mentor. I developed many of my skills and much of my knowledge from my background in retailing, working at management level with three of the largest retailers and some of the best people and mentors in the UK. The move away from the corporate sector was perfect for me, and as I opened more salons’ I realised that you can apply well developed business skills to any business. It’s the same planning, people and communication skills, and above all else passion, no matter what your business is. When it comes to Salon business coaching, I know my background makes me hugely different form most coaches in my sector, I might be the right match for you if you are 100% committed to succeeding. I have never yet found a business that would fail, only salon owners not prepared to succeed. I will help you develop strategy and structure, but the rate of change is fast. I can come across as demanding, but that’s because I only want you focused on your success. I have done so many things over the years that help me, to help you.
