Tried, Tested and True: what do we know about cancer treatment, our cancer genes and cancer advocacy

*The content shared here is not meant to be a replacement for medical advice. Please reach out to your practitioner for any health related concerns* Michelle Morand is one of the most enthusiastic and passion advocates in the cancer space. She has had over 25 years as an entrepreneur and clinical counsellor and has devoted the last 11 years to empowering and educating cancer patients to become advocates in their own health. With her team of scientists and researchers, Michelle uses the most up to date knowledge especially in genetics to help patients find the most relevant treatments.

But Michelle's transition into the cancer space is a story many of us who have been touched by cancer know too well, Michelle's beloved Uncle fell ill with cancer and after she had spent her time doing the research and pulling up treatment options that might work, she met hesitation from her Uncle's oncologist as the treatments were too knew and not much was known. Michelle's Uncle sadly passed and left her with a mission to not only share knowledge with patients but with their oncologists to effectively drive the best possible outcome for a patient.

This episode is tried, tested and true: what do we know about cancer treatment, genes and how we take the step in advocating for our health.

Live your heart out: sharing the best advice from Season 1

Live your heart out: sharing the best advice from Season 1

What a ride! 1-year ago I wanted to share the inspiring stories of people I knew who decided to live a life according to their personal rules and standards. Through their stories, I can believe that everything is possible and that people will find a way to accomplish what their heart desires. A year ago, I wanted to do this in the best way I knew how and in a way that respected my guest's stories and allowed them to author their own tales to each person who listened, and so, @the mad chatter podcast was born. To celebrate the end of Season 1, I took my favourite key learnings and put them together for you. I hope there is some wisdom that resonates with you.

To everyone who has listened to any moment of these episodes, thank you. Thanks for taking the journey with us, I look forward to what stories Season 2 brings.

Cancer before 40: Stop living a deferred life

Cancer before 40: Stop living a deferred life

In this episode, I speak with my sister Cindy who alongside our eldest sister Stephanie were diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in 2017. Thankfully to a genetic test, doctors were able to catch the cancer early but both sisters underwent surgery to remove their breasts and ovaries and had both went through chemotherapy treatments. Cindy by coincidence was also the same age that our mother had been when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer and we were just children. We chat about her views on most people living a “deferred life of maybes, one day and some time”, on what she remembers from our mother’s cancer diagnosis and finally on the value of self-care. Here is her story.

Dollars and debt: making money work

Dollars and debt: making money work

Jeffrey Asirifi is a humble and down-to-earth guy with a serious respect for money. For Jeffrey, it's not about the actual dollars but about dreaming big and making your money work towards those dreams. He tells us what a person needs to know about taxes, how we should look at cryptocurrency and answers the question "are weed stocks are really that dope?"
Most importantly, listen to what Jeffrey says is critical in shaping your relationship with money (hint: it's about knowing yourself, knowing your purpose, and knowing how to be grateful to those who came before you).

*NB: the rule of 72 which Jeffrey refers to in this talk is a formula used to determine how long it will take an investment to double.
