EP 21 Ben Lees, No Mates 4X4

EP 21 Ben Lees, No Mates 4X4

In this episode, Ben and I dive deep into the rabbit hole of depression for both him and his step dad. This would have to be the most comprehensive talks surrounding depression and suicide I have done on the podcast to date. We talk about the suicide of his step father and how Ben had his own end game planned. We see exactly how blind we can get when depressed when Ben tells us how his problems were extremely similar to his fathers and couldn’t see it himself. Incredibly Ben's last hooraa ended up to be his saving grace.

EP 20 Stacey Jackson

EP 20 Stacey Jackson

Stacey was in her early 20’s going about her life. Her story is a prime example of how quickly our lives can be turned around. Generally, when you hear the word, wheelchair, we associate it to injury. Sporting or vehicle accidents, combat or even a good night out turned wrong due to alcohol and a little extra courage. In Stacey’s case, it was her body that made that decision. We talk about her journey of 13 years adapting to life in a wheelchair and how she dealt and still deals with her condition. It’s a truly inspiring story of resilience from the get go. There is a lot to be taken from this story and I’m grateful to be able to bring it to you all. Enjoy.

EP 19 Elaine Gallagher, Wellness Ignitor.

EP 19 Elaine Gallagher, Wellness Ignitor.

Elaine, a self-confessed rebel teen took a leap that would change her life forever and joined the ADF at the young age of 17. We go through how the military shaped her into the person she is today. But it wasn’t without its flaws. Elaine was diagnosed with stage 5 cervical cancer and after 13 years of service was medically discharged, but the reason why is a story we have heard too many times before on the podcast. She is now the founder of Wellness Ignitor and has officially started her new podcast. Elaine spent the day at my house and I taught her what I know and let me tell you. She is a natural. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the episode.

EP 18. Brothers Unite

EP 18. Brothers Unite

It was such a privilege to have Dan, Leon and Seth from Brothers Unite come in for a chat. We talk about the inception of the Facebook group, where they came from and what the group is doing for men’s mental health. If you’re a bloke who is looking for a group that you can reach out on, this is the group for you. Just answer the bloody questions, lol. The lads work hard to make it a “safe space” for guys to open up and get some form of guidance from others who have gone through similar situations and know they are not the only ones that have gone through some stuff. And I don’t mean shit that goes wrong with their VN commodore. It keeps the conversation serious but there is some great banter to lighten your day as well.

EP 15 R&S Shaun Barry, Extra Specialist

When the person you are about to interview walks through your front door and gives you a massive hug, you know this is going to be a good episode.

We go over Shaun's time in Indonesia in 2004 after the tsunami, how he developed his PTSD witch is not how you would think he ended up with it and his time now as the founder of Extra Specialist. Shaun was super talkative and was an open book when it came to the passing of a close friend, how it effected him and his perspective on death. an extremely insightful interview with another solid individual just trying to help others through his venture, finding veterans work in TV and movies. Welcome to part 1.

EP 14 Rifles and Sirens. Ben Horton, Ironside Coffee co

Ben was kind enough to come into the studio on his way passed Ipswich to do this podcast. it humbles me that someone would make a special stop just for my pokey little podcast. Ben talks us about his various deployments, the struggles from the different terrains. the struggle between losing friends and being a leader at the same time and how his leadership skills from the military transfer into his job now as a leadership consultant. we also touch on an important part of the military, the love for coffee.

EP 12 Rifles & Sirens Josh Castle, Security Guard

EP 12 Rifles & Sirens Josh Castle, Security Guard

All Josh wanted to do was come home in the same shape as he was when he started his shift as a security guard. When a fight erupted at work, Josh was beaten and stomped buy conflicting parties leaving him with significant injuries including PTSD. We go over the event and what issues he still deals with on a daily basis. Josh's partner Tiffany joined him to give her perspective on the events and to help Josh recall the moments after the event. In this day in age we see posters for ambulance workers, fire fighters and police with zero tolerance on violence toward them. Unfortunately, we don’t see the same for security guards. Being a security guard myself I couldn’t exclude Josh’s story from a Rifles and Sirens title because we go through all the same stuff.

EP 11 John Bailey

EP 11 John Bailey

To look at John Bailey, you wouldn’t expect to hear the story you are about to hear. John’s peers would regard him as a man’s man, strong, tough, steak eating bearded bloke. Witch is why when the words came out of his mouth that he was sexually abused as a child, they couldn’t fathom that this could have happened to him. Not only was he abused, but the person he confided in took full advantage of the situation and abused him also.

John found incredible strength and went to the authorities about what he had gone through. Although he said it was tough, he had to do it to be able to move forward and successfully went to bring one of his abusers to justice. He is still finding the strength to face the other.

I praise John for his cordage in bringing this story to us in a bid for others to do the same and break the silence. An incredible episode awaits. Thank you, John Bailey.

EP 8 Talk'in Smack

This episode is just 3 mates and myself catching up for a few brews and talk'en smack for a bit. It's a new excuse to be social without social media but you can see it on social media? WTF. If you are at the point of melting due to being a snowflake then I suggest you do not listen to this episode.

Sit back and enjoy 4 blokes laughing about world issues and not giving a fat rats backside.
