The Seastar Goddess of Business Training for Women & WINC; Myka McLaughlin

The Seastar Goddess of Business Training for Women & WINC; Myka McLaughlin

Myka McLaughlin is a really powerful business woman who has mastered communicating and leading with softness and genuine care for others. This is no easy feat in life. Myka is a business owner. Her career and her own business is helping other women with rigorous business training and a platform for building a feminine business culture. She helps women survive doing what they love to do. Myka wasn't always sure that this would be her path and it took some trust of the universe and letting go to find her calling. While studying economics she thought she would have a career in other countries working with the UN. But when her two worlds collided, everything changed and she heard a little calling from the unseen world for a more unique path. She discovered that her two worlds actually met at an intersection of purpose right here at home. The first world she loved being a part of was a Yogini and spiritual regular practice honoring sacred female space in her hometown of Boulder. The other was studying Economics and the disparity of wealth in the world. When pondering what to do, she realized that she was surrounded by incredible women hovering over the poverty line doing things they were whole heartedly fueling. In short, these women were business owners who didn't know they were business owners. And because of this, they didn't search out business skills. Myka had the answer...and it wasn't a non profit. It was a viable business that she would grow.

10 years later, she has a thriving business, with a ton of purpose, that is making a difference. She co-founded WINC and has created real impact in her community. Founded in 2011, WINC has taught 15,000 women, especially artists, healers, creatives and women fleeing corporate culture in general. Myka has worked intimately with over 500 women-owned businesses. Her mission is to transform the economic system from the inside out, with women's wisdom. The women in her program utilize WINS's unique process and make it possible to support their families doing things they love to do and have real passion around. If this career interests you OR you are a woman with a business or a business idea, THIS is your episode. Honestly, even if that is not you, it's worth listening to just to tap into some of this goddess' sacred vibes and mindsets. She is a force to be reckoned with. A really great example of clarity, strength and grace defined in a person ie. Women's Wisdom at large. There is a lot of career love here to be awakened to and inspired by.

Myka recommends reading The Tao of Physics, Financial Intelligence for Entrepreneurs, E-Myth, and Getting Things Done. Mel recommends The Celestine Prophecy and Everything is Figureoutable. The Seastar of Television Journalism, Novel Writing & Founding Women of Tomorrow; Jennifer Valoppi

Jennifer Valoppi is a very special guest on the show. It is an honor to have her speaking to Mel and our community about her incredible career. Jennifer is a former Broadcast Television Journalist with over 28 years in the industry as an investigative reporter, science editor, anchor, and producer. Jennifer is also the author of Certain Cure, a sci-fi thriller novel (the first of a trilogy). She is also the founder and leader of Women of Tomorrow, a scholarship program which provides aid for at risk girls graduating high school and college. Jennifer has been recognized with Emmy's, on the floor of the US Congress and with Jeb Bush's Points of Lights Award. She is humble with all of this life experience and accomplishment. Mel likes to believe this is because, like her, she started out as a Michigander.

Jennifer's amazing career path, her first shot at being a television journalist, her becoming a mother and working in New York and Palm Beach are all stories you will want to hear. Women of Tomorrow has helped over 20,000 women and basically if you need an icon to emulate, this is her!

Tune in to listen to Jennifer's stellar advice for going after what you want in life. Some of her best advice on this episode is "Every day be doing something that you're proud of."

The Naiad Seastar of Questing for Beauty & Documentary Film Making; Cris Saur

The Naiad Seastar of Questing for Beauty & Documentary Film Making; Cris Saur

Cris Saur was in college studying to become a civil engineer when she was scouted to be a model. Cris became a successful Brazilian model and while on the outside it seemed the tables had turned for this shooting star who was bullied in school for being taller and skinnier than the rest of the girls, like most models are, something was not right. The pressure to be perfect for decades left her with very low self-esteem and she only realized how damaged her self-esteem actually was after being physically abused by a former partner. The depression that ensued pushed her to her limit and it was only after seeing Forest Gump, did she feel a call to action to make a change in her own life. Ironically, Mel Rose had her own Forest Gump moment and could relate intensely when they first discussed Cris' story. It has become clear that much of Cris' story seems to ring true for many women who have experienced the lifestyle of being a professional model. Abusive work will often perpetuate abuse in other area's of a person's life and this is why career is so important! Cris decided to do something about it and realized that the distorted ideas of beauty in our society deserved a quest. Cris sold her car, grabbed a camera, and traveled around the world on a quest for how different cultures define beauty. Cris found that it is often when we stop moving and sit very still and learn to think and act differently, only then do we really find the change and beauty in life that we crave. Through her journey and content creation, Cris produced an amazing documentary; Quest for Beauty, which you can find here. She premiered during covid. The proceeds benefited a women's shelter since her film was prompted by her own battle with domestic abuse. Cris is amazing and doing big things in live, so take note, dig in and get inspired by this amazing woman!

On this episode Mel and Cris discuss Cris' journey and the gratefulness she has for naivety to even try creating a film, her process in becoming a now professional film director, producer and star, and reflecting on the emotional place that she has arrived to in her life now. They discuss the concept the world being a large array of people either running away or running towards something and the importance of knowing where you are on that spectrum and what you want. Tune in for some really amazing ideas and to be inspired by another amazing Seastar who is on a mission to change the world in her own authentic way.

Cris recommends reading the Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda and Planetary Transiton by Divaldo Pereira Franco and Manoel Philomeno de Miranda. If you are interested in film she recommends Save the Cat, Making Movies by Sidney Lumet, Guide to Film Distribution, Documentary Storytelling, How to Shoot Video that Doesn't Suck, and Shut Up and Shoot. The Seastar of Instructional Design, Consulting Firm Owning & Doing the Hard Work; Nicolina Delgadillo

Nicolina is a super smart woman and consultant firm business owner. She is a woman who isn't afraid of doing the hard work and over the course of her life so far, that mindset has paid off. After majoring in finance with a full ride scholarship, after being told she wasn't smart enough for college, and having some really solid mentoring in her career path, Nicolina decided to open her own consulting firm to design instructional resources for organizations. Her decision to enter into an industry that would always need help was a wise one. Today she works with City and Corporations to create Learning and Development Programs. Her company is called Bee Smart. She is currently digitizing all of the current instructional classes for multiple city programs that she is involved in with The City of New York as well as creating instructional courses for private companies. Nicolina is originally from Bolivia and because of this, she doesn't take her opportunities or becoming an American lightly. Nicolina is really good at expressing how grateful she is to be able to work in this country. She is a reminder to anyone who is American, to be grateful for the freedom that we have to create businesses and thrive here, unlike many other places on the planet.

Mel & Nicolina discuss the actual industry of creating learning and development programs as a profession, the importance of hard work, the struggles as a Latina woman in business and just being a woman in general in the work place, and the many ways these two girls have bonded over their friendship. Nicolina lives by the saying Be Curious, Get Motivated, & Work Hard and it hasn't let her down yet.

The Seastar Goddess of Tarot Reading and Celestial Guide Vibes; Niketta Scott

The Seastar Goddess of Tarot Reading and Celestial Guide Vibes; Niketta Scott

Niketta Scott is such a friend goddess, one of those women that you know is on your side from the start and is all about going deep on the conversation as quick as it feels natural. Niketta Scott is a woman who always knew she could communicate with the celestial realm but only in the last five years has she started really embracing it for healing herself and spiritual growth, using it as a trade and seeing it as a superpower. She is a Seastar who is helping people see that they have divine guides that they can call on any time, especially with her tarot reading skills, as well as with her singing and writing. What we love most about Niketta is that she is a go getter who isn't afraid to also hold a position as a property manager to fuel her spiritual and creative roles. This is something so important that so many women need to know; You are allowed to be multi-dimensional. In fact, you're better off in many ways if you are, and you will feel more fulfilled when you figure that out. To have an intellectual or daily pursuit that earns you financial means, as well as a spiritual pursuit, and also an creative/expressive pursuit, gives you depth to your character. And Niketta has arrived at a place in life where she can embrace and utilize her spirituality daily in her life and is a deep vault of wonderful information and kindness.

Niketta and Mel cover a lot of topics, many around tarot and many around the truths Niketta uncovered along her path into tarot. Niketta urges people to have their guides and teams. Both in the physical realm AND in the celestial realm. We need our besties, our body work people (massage therapist, acupuncture, chiropractors), our trainers, our mentors, and our financial advisors. But we also need the guides we can't see but feel. We need to be able to tap into our angels, ancestors, deities, goddess archetypes, because their soul purpose is to fill our love and light cup up all the way and support us in our journey in the physical and spiritual worlds and into our purpose filled lives. We love this concept and we embrace the challenge to name and call on those celestial guides and try to connect with them regularly. Thank you, Niketta, for this remembering and for sharing it with us. This is just another reason we not only need your vibes but adore your work in this space - it is power and it is help we all can use.

Tune in for this episode to hear all about all of that and how Tarot was actually a game philosophers hided sacred and ancient secrets inside of for safe communication, the school you should use if you want to learn and master tarot reading, and more.

The Seastar of Ice Skating Mastery & Saying Yes even in Doubt; Ashley Clark

The Seastar of Ice Skating Mastery & Saying Yes even in Doubt; Ashley Clark

Mel got a new microphone. So first of all many apologies for the sound difference of sound in Ashely and Mel's mics. Hopefully we will have this corrected by a sound engineer in the next week or so, so if it is bothering you, please come back in a week and try again. Otherwise, enjoy!

Ashley Clark grew up to become the person we all, all meaning little girls who lived in winter places, dreamed about being brave enough to become. Ashley is has been and is forever an ice skating princess, character, master, and Jane of the jungle fire dancing goddess, on ice. This episode is going to inspire and shock you with her incredible career path stories.

Ashley and Mel Rose met in Costa Rica literally chasing waterfalls. Both ladies realized the other was a long lost now found seastar and spirit animal for the other. Both hail from 100% italian mothers, and both have a deep passion for living their own life, growth, courage, love and of course...waterfalls. When Mel found out that Ashley is not only an incredible ice skater but someone who chases her dreams fearlessly, Mel needed to get her on the podcast for all of you to hear from.

Listen to her wild story of begging her mom for her destiny in the form of Ice Skates when she was 4 and a half, to trying out for Disney on Ice while skipping school with her bestie and landing the job on the spot, to marrying the man of her dreams. Ashely's best advice to anyone listening is to: Just say Yes and Figuring it out later. She is also a master of turning Nos into Yes'. Her ability to think outside the box with her career path, hello Scar!, and to embracing her feminine qualities with new jobs, and her love of adventure and helping other people realize their greatness is just the best mentality to come across and an inspiration to us all. Check out her links here for the shows she talks about.

The Seastar Goddess of Occupational Therapy & Best Friending; Melissa Neagles

The Seastar Goddess of Occupational Therapy & Best Friending; Melissa Neagles

Melissa Neagles was Mel Rose's first friend. They met in Kindergarten. After Melissa moved away in second grade, the two tried to keep in touch but life got in the way. Social media and email didn't exist back then. WILD! Imagine. The good old days right? Well, fast forward 20 whole years. Both were looking for each other. Melissa got married at 22 and had a different last name and Mel changed her first name to Mel Rose. No luck. Then Mel went and did some crazy stuff called Reality TV. And luckily Melissa saw Mel on TV and thought to look her up as she seemed familiar. She realized it was her old friend by the love of artichokes on one of her pages..not one of the fake wannabe Mel Rose's. And there were many. Mel is grateful she took the time to search through all of them! The rest is history. They picked up right where they left off and their friendship hit it's 10 year mark with this episode!

Melissa is an occupation therapist. Curious what that job is? Listen in! It is a field that combines mental and phsyical wellness and creativity to get people back to functioning normally. Melissa explains it better than we do. Melissa went through a lot to get to the point of knowing exactly what she wants to do with her life. That happens to be a CHT. That stands for Certified Hand Therapist. Mel stumbled upon this career path by accompanying her mother to an OT appointment for her trigger finger. We hear it a lot on the podcast. That many people just happen to find that thing that calls to them by living their life. Melissa is an inspiration and goddess all around. She is also the best friend anyone could ask for and Mel is grateful for her to be back in her life!

Mel2 as we like to call these besties covered a lot of topics. One was how being stagnant in your daily routine is toxic, see this article for the danger of not getting physical activity daily. Also, just in case you cared, People who work out have more and better orgasms. Just saying. The thing is about OT as a career is that it is complex. It merges physical with mental and is a very diverse and creative field. Which is why it is so hard for people to understand what it is. What we know is that Melissa is going to be a game changer in this field, we just know it. When you mix genuine care with high intelligence and a willingness to want to grow and evolve your industry, you have magic and Melissa has all of this. We cannot wait to see what she manifest in the Goddess Circles! The other topic that the ladies touched was Sensory Thresholds which will be our topic in our Goddess Circle on Januray 13th at 4pm ESt. Join in at www.seastargodddess.com for more info.

The Seastar of Spreading Goodness & Stroke Surviving; Anna Dravland

The Seastar of Spreading Goodness & Stroke Surviving; Anna Dravland

Anna Dravland is an incredible woman, survivor, and inspiration to all people. When Anna was 34 she suffered from a stroke that would change her life as she knew it. The same year of her stroke, just a few months before, she had launched her own non profit called Spread Goodness Day. Spread Goodness day happens the second Friday of every March, every year since 2018. The Seastar Goddess Tribe (The community this podcast supports) is 100% on board for getting involved with @spreadgoodnessday and we are looking forward to March more than ever now! It is a day to pick your favorite cause and do good around it.

Anna's gigantic heart and tenacity for taking what life handed her and allowing it to guide her, not destroy her, should be a message to us all in the time of covid. Spread goodness' tag line is "We're making the future so bright, you're going to need shades!" Being a young stroke survivor opened Anna's eyes to the misconceptions around disability for stroke survivors within the medical world and society, and since she was blessed enough to receive back her speech in her recovery, she's devoted to using her voice to spread awareness and kindness in all sorts of ways. We are thankful for her voice today and the amazing awareness she has brought to this podcast and our lives in just one conversation. Just because someone looks like they are not disabled, doesn't mean you can dismiss the needs that they communicate to others. Listen closely, humans, this might be more aligned with our current state of the planet than you may think.

Anna's mentality, daily posts of her dancing to stop suicide (suicide rates are double for survivors of brain injuries), and her amazing sense of understanding and compassion, are traits that we could all use a little more of in covid and during the holidays. This conversation is so inspiring it might bring you to tears or move you to action...hopefully both! We can't wait to see what is in store for this Seastar. Motivational speaking seems to be not only her calling but her soul purpose. For this disabled lady who doesn't let it diminish her light whatsoever, the sky is truly not even a limit! This holiday season, let this be a reminder that there is a lot to be grateful for, things can change forever in a single instant and to be kind to others.

Correction: The actual numbers for US jobs lost in September were 865,000 for women and 216,000 for men.

Anna recommends picking up the book Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolt Taylor or check out her Ted Talk here.  She also recommended the film My Beautiful Broken Brain available on Netflix. The Seastar Goddess of Sex Therapy and Founder of Down to There; Pamela Joy

Pamela Joy is a relationship and sex therapist. Pamela's former job in tech for a decade+ at Apple and Facebook was wonderful but after she found how interested she was in the sex therapy she was doing with her husband, she decided to pivot for she had found her thing.. This whole experience shocked her but she stayed open to this vision for herself and stayed curious.  Pamela earned her masters degree in Holistic Counseling Psychology and is a certified Somatica Coach, Sex, and Relationship Coach (She studied there for 3 years and loved it.)

It all started when her and her now ex-husband didn't have sex timeline alignment and sought help. What she found was a lot of clarity and a new career. From the research that she conducted while at John F. Kennedy University [a cool process to hear her speak about], she delivered an incredible Ted Talk. This is how Mel found Pamela. Pamela suggests and explains how mindfulness and staying present is the key to more intimacy with life in general.  In this episode, Pamela teaches us some tools for how to claim your energy (See our Youtube link - will be here soon), some great tools for finding what turns you on, and good tips if you think this might also be your thing. She offers a very intersting video series for $30 on her site that are titled "The Art of Getting Turned On." Pamela also has the best laugh!

The Naiad Seastar of Lingerie and Tantra Enthusiasm; Chez Johnson aka The Lingerie Lady

Chez is a magical person and longtime friend of Mel Rose, as well as a really amazing business woman. She is one Goddess that is a force to be reckoned with! She had been through quite a long career path that started as a dental assistant, included owning a modeling agency that casted women onto music videos for Def Jam and Cash Money Record companies and styling the ladies for these shoots, to souther belle standout in New York City and has evolved into a successful lingerie e-commerce business owner and tantra enthusiast and educator. Chez and Mel met shooting for her collection which also included a shoot with Eugena Washington (before she became a bunny!)

Chez experienced a life altering accident, thankfully while wearing matching lingerie under her clothes, that landed her in the hospital for a month. (Crossing the street in LES in a hit and run.) After her accident, she recovered and realized her life was heading literally in a different direction than the one that would fulfill her. She has been on the right path for 10 years now, dressing her clients in lingerie and helping them fix their female energy. She is an avid reader and gave so many incredible insights in to important tools that can help us, female goddess circle seastars, in our journey to self love and self discovery. WE learned about the OAP, the NVP. and the 11 zones of pleasure for women. Chez can be reached at her IG account if you want to ask her for any advice or help with Tantra practices. Her store is here and it includes lingerie and a tantra apothecary.

The Goddess Seastar of Yoni Health and Empowerment; Sabrina Vedete

The Goddess Seastar of Yoni Health and Empowerment; Sabrina Vedete

Sabrina Vedete has opened our hearts and minds and is a woman living and speaking her truth. And it is beautiful! We might actually listen to this podcast every week just to keep this re-remembering this information. Sabrina tells us so many things we knew but forgot and totally needed to hear. She is also an educator of the YONI, even just teaching us about that word versus vagina! She gave us a TON of information that we will thrive on for years to come and that we know you will want to hear. Sabrina is a courageous Goddess who is unwilling to live an unauthentic life or stay silent about women's health and the holistic solutions that saved her. So authentic is her mission, that it will at first make you blush, then make you think, and then make you get to work on your own self. Sabrina is a certified vaginal steam therapist and a yoni egg and pleasure wand guide. She guides women in discovering their sacred and often lost divine feminine healing powers. This Seastar is so many other things but we'll work with these titles for now.

In their talk, Sabrina and Mel discuss Sabrina's career path to running her business in helping women heal themselves, grow infinite power, and reclaim the circle of life which is our yonis! Sabrina had a series of chronic UTIs that she could only heal using vaginal steaming. With this, she set off on a world tour living in tents most of the year at festivals, working with women in discovery and therapy regarding their sacred powers. She is a force to be reckoned with oozing knowledge and guidance for women who surely need it in a world that doesn't embrace feminine health as a priority. Let's use this conversation to light a fire of passion for our own healing and for learning everything we can about our most sacred and powerful body parts. Sabrina fills us in on some of the important topics around women's yoni health, what the different types of yoni egg stones are good for, the 4 different phases we are going through each month, their goddess archetypes, and the way we will feel - hence a guide for existence. Basically, a true masterpiece for your ears. Get involved and listen here to this magical goodness. Thank you, Sabrina! We love you and can't wait to try our reclamation of our yoni power in the months to come!

Sabrina will be hosting a yoni egg initiation from Dec 1-8th and is offering a 22% discount code with the promo code MELROSE.

Sabrina offers yoni eggs on her website at www.sacredlotusyonisteam.com

The Seastar of Electrical Engineering & Non-Conforming; Helena Yasmine

The Seastar of Electrical Engineering & Non-Conforming; Helena Yasmine

Helena Yasmine is a goddess guest from the goddess circle who we are so excited to have on the podcast teaching us this week about engineering and her revelations from staying true to herself and strong in a male dominated industry. Helena has had some incredible twist and turns on her career path. What was steady was her father's guidance, her unwillingness to conform, and a lot of intelligence; both IQ and EQ! Helena came to the states from Lebanon at 12 and went to college in Chicago, Had a career in Kentucky, gave it all up to hit France for 3 months with her boo, and then went back to Chicago to score her dream role. She is now a project manager for a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary and is just a force to be reckoned with! When she left her job after 7 years at GE to do a 3 month trip with her boyfriend in France, she didn't realize just how much of herself it would reveal! Listen for this gem of advice on figuring out who you are.

Upon returning to Chicago, she was determined to find a job that had room for growth and wanted to see her grow AS SHE IS,  not the way her next boss planned to project themselves onto her. Engineering as a career path is often a challenging AND rewarding one, especially for women. STEM fields are often the topic of conversation in the theme of "Not Enough Women in These Industries!" and it will only change with more women braving the unknown. And ladies like this are here to lead the way! Helena is a trail blazer and will surely do amazing things as an engineer and manager. We cannot wait to follow her journey and continue to be inspired by her positive attitude and major determination. Helena is also head of customer experience at Manifest Her as well.  When does she sleep?!

Helena suggested picking up Manifest Her's book and also to pick up your old school go to spots for inspiration whether it be The Bible, The Torah, The Koran, or A Course in Miracles. Just a few sentences can really make a big difference!

The Seastar of Tech Law & Relentless Entrepreneurialism; Leila Banijamali

The Seastar of Tech Law & Relentless Entrepreneurialism; Leila Banijamali

Leila Banijamali is a tech lawyer (her firm focuses on SF Law & Real Estate Brokerage Bedrock SF), she is a relentless entrepreneur, explorer, surfer, and chaser of big dreams. She is the CEO of Symbium Build which is a computational law company that is currently focusing on helping home owners and small business owners navigate complex zoning regulations and the local rules that govern what can be done with a piece of property. Her background is complex and full of achievements. With the direction [and pressure] of her parents, Leila got her law degree instead of becoming a graphic artist. In hindsight, she is grateful that she did this, because now she can do as much graphic design as she wants, but from her CEO role at her company or firm. Among her intellectual talents, she has been a recording artist, a gallery owner, and wonderful friend. California residents will learn a few things in this podcast for sure! Her ability to be a power female who has not only her own law firm but a start up that is helping people and revolutionizing computational law, is really on another level inspiring!

Mel and Leila have been friends for almost two decades. They met in San Francisco and have stayed in touch over the years, even with Mel's running all over the globe and Leila's relentless entrepreneurialism. Mel finds out some new things (that she should have known!) about Leila, and Leila flips the conversation on Mel a few times! We are hoping Leila will join Mel for many more conversations as she is a wealth of knowledge and ideas!

Leila's book recommendations are The Startup of You - Reid Hoffman, Measure What Matters - John Doerr, and The Insanity of Advertising - Fred S. Goldberg. The Goddess Roundtable discussion on Bullying with Jenny Mischel, Jessica Elliot & Mel Rose

The Goddess Roundtable discussion on Bullying with Jenny Mischel, Jessica Elliot & Mel Rose

Jenny Mischel and Jessica Elliot are both professionals working to improve the situation with bullying. Jenny comes at this problem through academia. She holds a PHD in Educational Psychology and works as a development coordinator and facilitator with Payton's Project and is a visiting assistant professor at Oxford College at Emory University. Jessica is in the trenches as a school counselor at Fairfax County Public Schools and also works with Jenny and Payton's Project to tackle this dire topic.

With US Hospital Admissions for non fatal self harm for young girls age 10-14 is up 189% and 62% for Girls aged 15-19, Nearly triple what it was in 2009 and Suicide rates for yougn girls age 10-14 are up 151% and gor girls aged 15-19 is up 70% compared to an average from 2001-2011. (Information taken from The Social Dilemma sourced from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). These numbers are terrifying. This data is linked to the onset of constant usage of social media. So with this issue, our girls need us. The time is now to contribute to the solution. You can spread this information, mentor, join a cause like Big Brother Big Sister and then volunteer in schools, or even become a researcher or fundraiser/investor to companies and schools combatting the war on bullying and premature death of children victimized by social dysfunctions.

Mel's experience with bullying as a pre-teen and teenager seemed to set off a vicious cycle for her. One that led her to being further bullied in front of millions of people by the producers of America's Next Top Model. The producers actually told her that past contestants who fought against their edits, like Jade, were ridiculed by the media, and that she should simply "just take it.". But Mel has always fought back against her edit on the show stating that she was served a character portrayal that had lasting public ramifications and mental health damages to her for over a decade. This candid conversation between the 3 ladies is the first time Mel opens up about all of her bullying past and how she has overcome this into a life of happiness and purpose. Jessica, who had a background in fashion as well, quickly realized the truths about the fashion industry and stepped into counseling instead. Jenny also had been bullied as a child. These 3 women courageously share their knowledge, research, and experiences and hopefully shed some light on bullying and cyberbullying today.

Enjoy and please feel free to reach out to any of the women for additional comments, contributions, or volunteering opportunities. Much more to come from this magical trio!

The Seastar of Startup Law & Being a Fun Mom; Rachel Johnson

The Seastar of Startup Law & Being a Fun Mom; Rachel Johnson

Rachel Johnson is one of those women that you talk to and by the end of the talk you're like woah...that was a goddess! Rachel is Managing partner at J&O Law. which is a firm that she and her best friend from law school founded after doing some time in big law. They specialize with helping startups and emerging growth companies with their legal and coaching through the life cycle of new business. She followed in her parents footsteps by pursing law, the only of her and her 4 siblings to do so. She claims she is "normal" and that nothing was handed to her. And we believe her. You can kind of tell because she is so talented but also so down to Earth and super cool. While being super hardworking and clearly highly intellectual, she also manages to be a conscious and culture oriented boss, super fun friend and party host and of course a mommy of 2. She also has some major tips for anyone pursuing law school. Specifically that the first year you should become a hermit and give it every ounce you have. She really is a gem we are so happy could join the circle and group of goddesses here to inspire you.

Rachel and Mel talk about her transition into start up law from big law, her tips for people pursuing law and building companies, and how to be a good mom when you're also a career woman. J&O's startup package for anyone looking to formulate a company is $1500 and we think worth every penny! By working with a legal team from the start of your business, you really set yourself up for success and save a lot of expense down the line to fix what you've set up wrong. Firms like hers know how this process works and really they not only serve as legal but as coaches who know all the steps from building a quality team to series A fundraising. Listen and expand!

The Seastar of Supply Chain Presidency & Overcoming PPD: Leticia Baca

The Seastar of Supply Chain Presidency & Overcoming PPD: Leticia Baca

Leticia Baca is an incredible woman. Not just because she is the President of Lakewood Organic Juices, or a wife and mother of two who accomplished such high corporate accomplishments. She is incredible because she has persistence and a mindset that isn't afraid of stepping back to go even farther forward. When she found herself pregnant with her second child, she wasn't provided for by her employer like in her first pregnancy. The need to work through her postpartum set her off into a depression that she wasn't sure how to shake. But through her willingness to believe in herself and work with professional coaches and the twisted mental healthcare system, she made it to the other side. Professionally, she's always taken risks and they paid off. Listen to her journey with Mel and find that sometimes not wanting what you're being offered, even though everyone else says it's what you should do, is the best thing for your career. Depression is treated as almost cosmetic health - as though it is an option, Leti tells us. The culture shaming on mental health checks is something Mel is also passionate about. Some epic other quotes from her here were;

"If you’re not sitting at the table, you’re on the menu." Leti

"You need to create systems that work for you." Also Leti's wise advice on how supply chain management can apply to our lives as well.

Leticia has founded Sisterology with her sister who also happens to be her best friend. Sisterology is a lifestyle brand that uses a mix of ethically sources, USA Made and fair trade products in a market place and is a network of sisters to support and empower women. A real Seastar group in our opinion!

Leticia recommends reading Avoiding a supply chain apocalypse, Emotional Intelligence Daniel Goleman, and Radical Candor by Kim Scott. Mel suggested Radical Forgiveness by Colin Tipping. The Seastar of Cosmetics Brand Development & True Intelligence; Donna Lopez

The Seastar of Cosmetics Brand Development & True Intelligence; Donna Lopez

Donna Lopez was not someone who thought she was very smart and was never told that she was highly intelligent. But she always wanted to do something big with her life, even as a youth. A wrench got thrown into the system when she became a teen mom. But she refused to let an assumed trajectory defeat or define her. Instead, she took control of her life when opportunity knocked. She gained traction in her career by stepping up and asking for roles she didn't even know the titles of or was even offered. She put together powerhouse teams and partnerships in the cosmetics industry and became a force to be reckoned with wherever she dedicated her time. She finally realized she was smart, after years of defying odds, management and belief system with her performance and her ability to produce results. Donna used and still harnesses her EQ, IQ, grit and out of the box thinking and dedication to the industry and systems to grow companies she works with beyond belief. Today she is considered a beauty business expert and continues to dominate the industry.

This Seastar has proven herself time and time again in her career and as a mom with a purpose besides just surviving. She is proof that people who aren't told that they are traditionally intelligent can actually reach higher heights than other's prescribe to them and most importantly uncover true intelligence by the art of just simply "doing". Donna is an American dream. She went from an entry level, minimum wage worker at an Origins store as a teen mom to SVP at Sephora, to Buyer for HSN, to executive at Boxy Charm, to now Founder & CEO of her own company Making Lemonade to help develop and market cosmetics brands. She is a shaker/mover/changer for humongous corporations and start ups alike and if you are thinking to start a cosmetics line, this is your woman. Her website is here. Launch date is October 1, 2020 so check back then.

Mel & Donna talk about her career path and the moments, discoveries, and realizations that brought her to founding her own company Making Lemonade. Her experience as a teen mom and person who achieved self-actualization through the corporate cosmetics industry, has defined her as an icon for young women who have been told that they may not make it in life as a true success story. If you are that girl, don't believe them. Just "do". The dance around doing will not bring success. JUST DO, she says. She urges people to be strong and to have courage to just go after what you want, even if you don't know what the title of that role actually is, or how to get there. Just use your mind, it's stronger than you think, work hard to figure it out, and it will all work out.

As Donna says "There is nothing you can't do. If you are persistent, you will get it. And if you are consistent, you will keep it." Also, Donna wins best laugh ever award. We love this Seastar and cannot wait to follow Making Lemonade moving forward and see all the brands that emerge from her new venture.

The Seastar Big Sister of Cannabis & Emerald Media Maven; Christina de Giovanni

The Seastar Big Sister of Cannabis & Emerald Media Maven; Christina de Giovanni

When Christina de Giovanni found herself in a jail cell with all her assets seized by a weird twist of events involving her boyfriend and a bunch of cannabis, she found the spark to her life's fire. She found that "thing" that would direct the success and impact path she would set out on. As she sat there, she realized that her experience to get to that point was fraught with civil injustice and that as a journalist major she should fight the sword with the pen.  She decided to empower the cannabis industry and bring a better look to the media covering the industry.  This set her in motion to create Emerald Media Group. Then as her mother was looking for a way to treat her cancer, Christina saw the potential for also adding senior citizens to her targeted demographics as well, as they too could benefit from her work to cover the industry with some class and style. After all, cannabis is important to understand, being that it is a natural remedy versus pharmaceuticals, and something tons of people use medicinally with a ridiculous amount of success.

Fast forward to today, and Christina is thriving in the cannabis industry from a media perspective. Christina owns and operates Emerald Media Group; a media company devoted to demystifying and exposing cannabis for the miracle worker that it is. Christina is the industry's voice for cannabis for modern women. She likes to call the publication "The Big Sister of Cannabis." It is designed to appeal to females and  to senior citizens with undertones of education and empowerment, versus stoner culture, drug hoe/bong advertisement that plagues the cannabis industry still. The esthetic of the group has caught the attention of several larger media groups. Christina has no interest in selling her company...yet. But she is on a mission to create strong brand partnerships. Her priority of course is all about creating a publication that can allow readers to seek education that they need to make informed choices around cannabis and not bother your brain or eyeballs while doing so.  Christina also now is a VP at 7thirty Capital helping to make cannabis related investments! Full circle and way to manifest!

Enjoy this episode where Mel & Christina dive into Emerald and Christina's journey and all the reasons this is right on the money moment!  Christina also has her own podcast! Check it out here.

The Seastar of Neural Beings & Chief Mindfulness Officer Goddess; Anahita Moghaddam

The Seastar of Neural Beings & Chief Mindfulness Officer Goddess; Anahita Moghaddam

Anahita Moghaddam is a seastar and a goddess as a founder and a trail blazer. She walks her path in life on the mental wellness path. She is such a powerful force. She is so many things to say about her, but first and foremost is her beautiful consciousness, that is ever so present. She has been a voice of reason and truth teller for Mel over the last few years and is an extremely esteemed guest on this podcast.

Anahita founded Neural Beings, a company that trains and coaches individuals and organizations aspiring to have positive impact in the world and who are interested in developing the skills necessary to achieve this goal. Her former role as Chief Mindfullness Officer of Y2X, a financial services company that is bridging the gap between the emerging digital economy and the regulated global financial markets by joint venturing to develop such companies. WOW! If every company had one of those! What kind of world would we be living in?

She left the role to move back to her hometown of Hamburg and be close to the things she values most; simplicity, nature, and family. This woman has had such an incredible journey to self-actualization. From couch surfing all over Manhattan over 10 years ago when she first wanderlusted into town to studying under the Dalai Lama, Anahita really was the New York dream achieved.. Her Iranian background has helped her not take anything for granted and to be fearless in the face of uncertainty. Her Friday IG Lives at 8am EST with the Dalai Lama's nephew, Tenzin Lodoe, are incredible and highly recommended for mental expansion and more awareness and drive to mediate daily. Her many videos on her site will guide you to higher consciousness, we promise!

When Mel attended The Assemblage (if you don't know this place and live in NY, it is a must see and belong to club), for an event with Deepak Chopra, she was delighted to hear Anahita speak alongside her meditation guide of the last several years. Mel reached out to Anahita after the talk and the two have been chatting ever since. When Mel asked Anahita to be on the podcast and she accepted, Mel was over the moon, because this conversation was not only with a magical person but someone who is connected to so much truth and is one of Mel's icons and role models.

Anahita and Mel discuss her journey and the work that she is doing now. Her contemplation of the mind and spirit on this wild ride called Life is something that most people can relate to. Her rebellion to the Iranian "female" ideal and the reasons we remember negatives so much more than positives are a few highlights from this session. Anahita describes the incredible concept of "micro-awakenings" and what that has done for her by slowly revealing her true self to herself.

Today, she's known as a doctor. But she is a very special doctor. She is the kind that really cares and deals with the true life force. The spine, the fluid around the spine, and all the energy around us; known as our sacred anatomy and subtle energy field. In the last 8 years, she has healed Mel Rose 3 times when other traditional Doctors couldn't help her, so it was a HUGE honor to have her grace this podcast in this special episode, in person with Mel, to help shed some light on how we can work with our energy fields and to become aware of our own sacred anatomy and purpose so that we can start to live outside time. She teaches us the very important work of healing our energy fields, reclaiming that space around us, and become healthier in every way. Dr. Colleen is a unique life force that offers a series of courses on her website, if this work interests you...and it should.

Mel and Colleen's parents were best friends growing up. So Mel has known Dr. Colleen for her entire life. These two old soul sisters connect on a bunch of stories around their work together and on the beliefs and thoughts working with Dr. Colleen has sparked for Mel. The Seastar of 212 Real Estate & True Belief; Sarah Williams

The Seastar of 212 Real Estate & True Belief; Sarah Williams

Sarah Williams owns her own Real Estate firm in New York City called Societe and with over a decade in the industry, she knows the 212 inside and out. Societe is a privately-owned, female-run, bespoke real estate agency that defines Sarah's ethos with luxury aesthetics, smooth processes and influential work. She is also the agent who won Rookie of the Year (REBNY) and The Rising Star Award in her first few years of the industry and made many people take a second look at her out-of-the-box and pretty genius approach to the industry.  Sarah is tapped into The Secret and it has worked wonders for her. She is a beautiful woman who has overcome an initial life trajectory that, given another mindset that didn't embrace self belief, might have had her living a very different life.  Sarah figured out how to truly believe that her life was going to go a better way than to perpetuate the environment in which she grew up. Hailing from a very rough part of Tampa, Sarah worked herself from an ambitious high schooler who couldn't be convinced to dance to anyone else's beat to a Columbia graduate, an ultra orthodox Judaism convert, a fashionista, wonderful friend, and business owner. This girl is a total goddess and someone we can all take a note in our diaries from.

Mel and Sarah have been friends for several years now, after meeting at a mutual friends place in the Hamptons. They both were trying out something called "Selective Expression". This is where, when you meet someone you feel safe with, you finally open up a little bit of your truth to, and can breathe better after doing so. After years of this kind of work, both ladies have found that it is part of the process to become really truly okay with your story, no matter how hard the details are.

Sarah suggests using this youtube video to change your life. She said it really worked for her. And so, we will be doing this and will report back on this hopefully in another episode with the one and only Sarah Williams!  Check out: The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale. The Goddess of Bio-Social Anthropology; Dr. Chelsea Shields

The Goddess of Bio-Social Anthropology; Dr. Chelsea Shields

WELCOME TO A GODDESS CIRCLE EPISODE

Dr. Chelsea Shields, a bio-social anthropologist, strategic research consultant, women's rights activist, mormon, speaker, author, mother and wife and so much more, who accomplished 2 PHDs debt free by the way, pretty much defines a modern female boss. Born and raised in the Mormon community in Utah, Dr. Chelsea knew there was more to life than her community let on. She is unapologetically ambitious and rightfully so. She's changing science with placebo studies and human evolution expert work and research through her time in West Africa and in all her endeavors now. Her current book is about removing herself from social media. So no links to social with this goddess, but when she jumps back in next year, we will make sure to add her handles in here.

Mel and Dr. Chelsea talk about growing up Mormon with big ambitions and all of her experiences that led her to being a strategic consultant today. She brings up some very valid and wonderful questions for the listeners while being very gracious with Mel's several run on sentences this episode. To clarify, as this episode is highly feminist charged, both Mel and Chelsea LOVE men and would not want to imagine a society without them. They simply support more females in roles of leadership throughout the world and will work tirelessly to become those women, in preservation and support of future generations and the planet. Walk through conversations of linguistic and cultural genocide, to how to win or engage in arguments with people with different beliefs, to tribalism, family therapy, acceptance of the self, skin care, and pursuing your dreams unashamed. Enjoy!
