Former CIA Targeter turned Spy Thriller Author, special guest: Cathleen Butler

Former CIA Targeter turned Spy Thriller Author, special guest: Cathleen Butler

Cathleen Butler spent ten years as a targeting officer within CIA’s Directorate of Operations, Counterterrorism Center. Both at Langley and on temporary assignments in the Middle East, Cathleen spearheaded operational efforts to achieve some of the most sensitive foreign intelligence objectives in Afghanistan and Iraq. She has both first-hand knowledge of targeting methodologies used in the recruitment of spies and extensive field experience in working with foreign liaisons to discover and apprehend terrorists abroad. She is a staunch advocate for women’s rights in the Middle East and has worked for human rights campaigns in Afghanistan to protect and promote the rights of disenfranchised Afghan women and girls. Her first book in a planned series, Juliet’s War, merges multiple genres, featuring elements of spy, thriller, and romantic suspense. She lives in Charleston, SC with her husband and children.

About her book Juliet's War:

With powerful insight from a former CIA spy, Juliet’s War weaves fact and fiction, highlighting a story seldom told: how female heroics can change war.Syndicate spy Juliet Arroway and her best friend, Mariam, a progressive Saudi princess and passionate proponent of clean energy and women’s equality in the region, hunt energy terrorists to put an end to a global energy war. But when an op to find a key player in the terrorist network goes wrong, and a successful attack is launched on Westminster Hall, the Syndicate begins to suspect that Mariam's family is somehow involved. To make matters more devastating, Juliet's serious boyfriend, Jean-Marc, is targeted and killed, leaving her grieving and even more determined to stop the war.On Syndicate orders, Juliet is paired with a dashing, arrogant FBI agent, Graham, to infiltrate Mariam's family to prevent further attacks. As much as Juliet dislikes Graham at first, she cannot deny their connection, or the comfort that comes from being able to share her work with him, something she was never able to do with Jean-Marc. With Graham, Juliet embarks on a dangerous journey toward survival and love, as they cross the globe from London to Riyadh, Paris to Istanbul, and Moscow to Chechnya's City of the Dead to put an end to the war that cost them both. And when Mariam discovers the truth behind her family’s involvement, she joins Juliet and Graham in their quest. But when peace means a stunning betrayal, Juliet must decide if her mission and achieving equal rights for women in the region, justifies the crushing defeat of others.

The Michael Calderin Show with special guest Melissa Zelniker-Presser!

Attorney Melissa Zelniker-Presser has served as the Police Legal Advisor in Plantation to Chief Howard Harrison since 2011, and simultaneously serves as an attorney for the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association. Mrs. Zelniker-Presser graduated Summa Cum Laude and with University Honors from the University of Central Florida, with her B.A. degree as a double major in Criminal Justice and Legal Studies. She went on to receive her Juris Doctor degree in 2002 from The Florida State University College of Law.

Upon graduation, Mrs. Zelniker- Presser was selected for a prestigious fellowship through Equal Justice Works, and hosted her project at Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc., catering to the needs of foster children who were also facing delinquency issues. Her project, “The Bridge,” provided representation to children in both the dependency and criminal justice arenas, working to bridge the gap between the delinquency and foster care systems. In 2004, Ms. Zelniker-Presser was awarded the Florida Bar President’s Award of Merit on behalf of all Florida Legal Aid attorneys for her work.

Subsequent to her work at Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc., Mrs. Zelniker-Presser served as an assistant public defender in the 17th judicial circuit in Broward County and also worked with her husband as a Partner at the Presser Law Firm. Missing her first love to serve others, in 2008 she jumped at the chance to help establish the newly formed Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel for the Fourth District. She later became the Chief Assistant Regional Counsel for the 17th Judicial Circuit in Broward County, overseeing the Broward County office. Mrs. Zelniker-Presser’s career and passion were both born out of her own struggle as a survivor of sexual abuse and deep-seated commitment to helping others who are struggling as a result of their own trauma.

The Michael Calderin show with co-host Vanessa Reyes!

The Michael Calderin show with co-host Vanessa Reyes!

FROM FOX 61 CT:

A Connecticut resident and DACA recipient was detained in New Mexico by ICE while traveling with his girlfriend. Bryhan Ali Andrade-Rojas was traveling across the west coast when he was detained by ICE officials at an immigration checkpoint on January 17. “I know that he’s sleeping on a floor,” said his friend, Samantha Andersen, who has been talking to him since he’s been detained. “People are defecating next to him.”

Bryhan is a recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, known as DACA. It allows people brought illegally to the United States as children to receive temporary relief from deportation. It also allows them to work and go to school. Bryhan’s status lapsed in February of 2019.

Bryhan’s friends who have been working to get back his freedom tell FOX61 they have received no word on when he will have the opportunity for a bond hearing. He can't access his files on his laptop, which preclude him from sending in his application. The application for DACA renewal is $495 and usually takes only a month or two to hear back on approval.

“If DACA is eliminated, that’s going to be bad news for DACA holders because they will be left without work permits. It will affect their employ-ability, ability to go to college, possible deportations; it might become pretty chaotic,” said Meyerovich. Bryhan’s friends are working on accessing lawyers and raising money for his potential bond, which they say could cost up to $50,000.

The Michael Calderin Show featuring Diana Guzman, Therapist and Author!

Diana Guzman was born in Cuba and moved to the United States when she was just fifteen years old. As a single mom of two, Diana pursued the American dream by putting herself through college, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Barry University and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She is also a Master’s Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP) and a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI). Diana is also an educator and currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Barry University and ASA College.

With several years of experience treating addictions, trauma, and mental health disorders, Diana believes in developing a trusting therapeutic relationship with all her clients. Diana is an advocate for women’s freedom of expression, their ability to enjoy simple pleasures, and their right to embrace a sexual awakening.

Diana has been writing poetry since she was fifteen years old, using it as an outlet to express herself while exploring themes of femininity and sexuality. She is often inspired by a single word, phrase, or image, which she births into a full expressive poem. Diana uses poetry to stand up for women and to encourage them to use their authentic voice, seeking out their own personal freedom to know who they really are. She believes in allowing our feelings to be fully felt, to be embraced without judgment, no matter if they are “good or bad”, “pretty or ugly.”

Diana’s book "RAW" published in September 2017, aims to break down the stigmas and barriers surrounding women. Diana believes that no woman should have to pick and adhere to any label that pleases society, but rather every woman should get to embody everything they feel and are meant to be. (Biographical information obtained from the Author and her official website).

The Michael Calderin Show: Interview with Author Al Romero!

The Michael Calderin Show: Interview with Author Al Romero!

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. - Al Romero, who resides in South Florida, and is a graduate of Florida State University, is a Cuban-born actor, comedian, and writer who performs regularly in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and on cruise ships. Mr. Romero just published his book Revolution: a compelling and historically accurate story of Cuba and Castro's enslavement of that beautiful island, by New York City based Page Publishing.

Romero shares, "'REVOLUTION' is a thrilling novel of intrigue, deception, betrayal, courage and the remarkable resilience of the human spirit under unbelievable circumstances. It illustrates how Fidel and his brother Raul lied to the Cuban people, cheated those who helped them fight against Batista and murdered their way into power, removing anyone and everyone they saw as a threat."

"Revolution: How the Castros Lied, Cheated, and Murdered Their Way into Power" is the story of the Quintanas, an ordinary middle-class family thrown into the turbulence of a civil war during the Cuban Revolution, as they witness their normal everyday lives change dramatically for the worse and watch as family members turn against each other.

'Revolution' was inspired by the family of the author Al Romero. Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Al Romero's book is a gripping and fast-paced debut novel based on the actual experiences of family and friends during the Cuban Revolution and its aftermath.

Readers who wish to experience this riveting novel can purchase "Revolution: How the Castros Lied, Cheated, and Murdered Their Way into Power" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

The Michael Calderin Show: An American Family fighting to help Afghan Translator

The Michael Calderin Show: An American Family fighting to help Afghan Translator

The Michael Calderin Show: An American family fighting to help Muhammad Kamran-Afghan Interpreter who helped US Forces.

Muhammad Kamran is an Afghan intepreter who has helped the US  Military, government agencies, and the United Nations for 10 years in  their fight against terrorism. Now Muhammad is in the fight for his  life; he and his family have been denied safe passage and entry into the  United States.

The Taliban considers him a  criminal and is working hard to find and kill Muhammad, his wife, and  his four young daughters. The whole family has been living in hiding for  four years. They are living in daily fear of being discovered and  killed by the Taliban. Even the children are unable to leave their  apartment. Leaks in the roof have made the young girls sick on several  occasions from getting infections from bacteria in the water or getting  cold in the winter.

Kristy Perano, a courageous graduate student  stepped up to the plate and began a crusade along with her family (Ken  and Susie Perano, Tim and Julianne Perano) to help Muhammad and his  family. The USCIS has provided no reason why Muhammad and his family  have not been granted clearance to enter the United States citing  security concerns. A bi-partisan group of 38 members of congress signed a  letter that was sent to Kirstjen Nielsen, Secretary of Homelend  Security on July 31, 2018, and as of this date they have received no  response from the Secretary or any governmental agency.

We will  hear first hand from Muhammad Kamran and the Perano Family. Please  share on social media and contact your senators and members of congress.  Please share this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NowDUr1I2T8
