Self Love: The Importance of Saying "I Love You"...to Yourself
When was the last time you said those 3 little words "I love you", to yourself? Chances are you probably haven't. Telling ourselves "I love you" isn't very common and it isn't practiced much. But it should be. Establishing a love affair with yourself can be the impetus of attracting the love you desire from others. God loves us with such incredible love and it's how He wants us to love ourselves and each other.
In this episode Nancy discusses the importance of loving yourself, giving yourself everything you need, and tangible things you can start doing today to begin your self-love journey. Make sure to have a pen and pad to take notes, because she's taking you to school in this episode.
6 Bible Verses on Loving Yourself:
Song of Solomon 4:7 ESVYou are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.
Proverbs 19:8 ESVWhoever gets sense loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will discover good.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ESVLove is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
Psalm 139:13-15 ESVFor you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Ephesians 5:29 ESVFor no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.
Matthew 22:37-39 ESVAnd he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
You Don't Have To Do It Alone

Turning Trials into Triumph
All of us have experienced trials and moments of struggle in our lives, but without storms we'd never experience rainbows. In this episode, Nancy shares some of the greatest lessons she's learned from being married for 20 years. She also discusses how our trials are the very things God uses to lead us into victory. Nancy uses Genesis 37 and the story of Joseph as a reference for how God turns your trials into triumphs and uses what the enemy intends for evil, for good. If you find yourself in the middle of a storm or simply need some encouragement to get through a difficult season in your life, then this episode is for you.
Mindset Matters: How What You Think Shapes Your Reality
Everything that exists in the world first started as a thought in the mind of the creator. Whether it's the Universe, your cell phone, your computer, or even the clothes you're wearing none of it would exist had it not been for someone first conceiving it in their mind. In this episode, Nancy discusses the importance of paying attention to your inner voice, cultivating a growth mindset, and offers tangible things that you can start doing today to overcome limiting beliefs, negative self-talk and low self-esteem. If you want to change your life, start by changing your mindset.

Set Apart
In Jeremiah 1:5, God tells Jeremiah " Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah was set apart to be a prophet to the nations even before God created him. God chose the purpose THEN he created Jeremiah to fulfill the purpose. Being a prophet to nations was God's purpose for Jeremiah's life. Like Jeremiah, each of us has a unique calling for which we have been set apart (for which we were created). In this week's episode, Nancy discusses the idea of being set apart and why you already have everything you need to fulfill God's purpose for your life. Why Investing in Yourself Is Critical for Success
Investing in yourself is one of the best return on investments you can have. Whether it's investing in learning a new skill, developing yourself personally or professionally, tapping into your creativity or hiring a coach, you need to give to yourself first before you can give to others. Investing in yourself means believing that you're capable of more than what you're currently doing. It also requires, at times, foregoing all other activities to invest in yourself and your goals.
In this episode, Nancy discusses why she believes self-love is the answer to all the world's problems and why investing in yourself is necessary to learn, grow and create value.

Anyone can father a child, but being a dad takes a lifetime. Fathers play a role in every child's life that cannot be filled by others. The patterns a father sets in the relationships with his children will dictate how his children relate with other people.

Mental Health Matters: A Conversation About Mental Health & Why It's Your Responsibility
May is Mental Health Awareness month and on this episode of The Nancy Ruffin show, Nancy talks about why mental health is everyone's responsibility. In NYC, at least one in five adults suffer from depression, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts or other psychological disorders every year. Poor and minority residents are disproportionately affected by mental illnesses and are more likely than whites to be misdiagnosed or untreated.
Nancy discusses mental health in communities of color, the lack of effective resources, and how barriers to treatment stop people from getting the care they need. She also shares her own personal experience with losing loved ones to suicide, depression, and drug abuse and offers tips on what you can do to help those around you who may be struggling.
Did you know in NYC:
- 20% of lower-income mothers develop symptoms of depression after pregnancy.
- 25% of the 230,000 veterans who live in New York, are estimated to have PTSD and/or major depression (that's one out of every four veterans).
- 35% of NYC Department of Homeless Services shelter clients have a serious mental illness; it’s closer to 40% among homeless who live on the streets.

Unexpected Outcomes: Pursuing Dreams You Never Knew You Had
Everyone always tells you to follow your dreams, but what if your dreams aren't what you're supposed to be doing with your life? What if following your dreams isn't tied to your destiny? What if God's dreams for you are greater than the dreams you have for yourself?
In this episode, Nancy shares how the dreams she once thought she wanted really weren't the dreams she was supposed to be pursuing. She discusses how being a mother was never a dream she had and how that desire ignited dreams she never knew she wanted.
This is a candid conversation about trusting God's will for your life and understanding that sometimes we have to relinquish our own selfish desire to control the outcome. Sometimes what we think we want pales in comparison to what God wants for us. If you find yourself unsure of what's next for you or if you're questioning or searching for God's plan for your life then this episode is a must listen!
