Should Theology Transcend Culture? Caribbean Thought Lecture 13 Excerpt, Semester 2, 2024

Should Theology Transcend Culture? Caribbean Thought Lecture 13 Excerpt, Semester 2, 2024

The relationship between theology and culture is a complex and multifaceted one, with scholars and practitioners offering differing perspectives on whether theology should transcend culture or be deeply embedded within it (Transcendence Vs the Immanence of God and theology). To address this question, it is essential to define theology and culture and explore their interplay in both historical and contemporary contexts. Theology, at its core, is the study of the divine, religious beliefs, and the nature of the divine being or beings. It encompasses doctrines, rituals, ethics, and interpretations of sacred texts within various religious traditions. Culture, on the other hand, refers to the shared beliefs, values, customs, and practices of a particular group of people, often shaped by factors such as history, geography, language, and social structures. Throughout history, theology and culture have been intertwined, influencing and shaping each other in profound ways. Religious beliefs and practices are often deeply embedded within cultural contexts, reflecting the values, norms, and traditions of a society. Conversely, theology has also played a role in shaping culture, providing frameworks for understanding the world, guiding ethical behavior, and fostering community cohesion. However, the question of whether theology should transcend culture raises important considerations regarding the universality of religious truth claims and the diversity of human experiences and perspectives. Proponents of the transcendence of theology argue that religious truths are universal and transcendent, applicable to all people regardless of cultural context. They posit that theology should provide timeless principles and moral guidance that are not bound by cultural limitations. On the other hand, advocates for the embeddedness of theology within culture emphasize the importance of contextualization and cultural relevance in religious practice and interpretation. They argue that theology must be understood and expressed within the cultural frameworks of particular communities, taking into account their unique histories, languages, and worldviews. This approach acknowledges the diversity of human experiences and the dynamic nature of culture, allowing theology to evolve and adapt to changing social contexts. Furthermore, the transcendence of theology over culture can lead to the imposition of dominant cultural norms and values onto marginalized communities, perpetuating systems of power and inequality. Embracing cultural diversity within theology fosters inclusivity, allowing for the voices and perspectives of marginalized groups to be heard and valued within religious discourse. In conclusion, the relationship between theology and culture is a dynamic and complex one, with both perspectives offering valuable insights into the nature of religious belief and practice. While some argue for the transcendence of theology over culture, emphasizing universal truths and principles, others advocate for the embeddedness of theology within culture, acknowledging the diversity of human experiences and the importance of cultural context. Ultimately, the challenge lies in finding a balance between these perspectives, recognizing the universality of religious truths while respecting the diversity of cultural expressions and interpretations. Dear Mr. President, Comparing the Holocaust to October 7th, 2023 is a Pseudo-Appeal to Association

Dear Mr. President, Comparing the Holocaust to October 7th, 2023 is a Pseudo-Appeal to Association

To: President Joe Biden, on your recent message on March 7th, 2024, commemorating the Holocaust.

Dear, Mr. President, Comparing the Holocaust to what happened on October 7th, 2023, when Hamas bombed parts of the Gaza, which Jews occupied, was a pseudo-appeal to association. Nevertheless, what happened to the Jews, must never happen to anyone.

Remembering the Holocaust should not just be about Jews, but also about the inhumanity of humans that would cause Hitler to create concentration camps to gas and torture millions of Jews as a way of racial cleansing to create a pure race that is Arian. Racism, colonialism, extremism, ethnic cleansing, and discrimination, still exist in the world today: From Russia's invasion of Ukraine to China's threats of war to re-control Taiwan. Similarly, Palestinians have had to deal with Israel's aggression and domination over the years, who have also objected and rejected the Palestinian state. To many Palestinians, Israel today has created a holocaust experience killing thousands in response to what Israel says is a response to Hamas' recent bombing. However, Israel's response has been magnanimous, as they brace to invade Raffah where many refugees and civilians On October 7, 2023, Hams bombed parts of the Israel-occupied section of #gaza in response to what many Palestinians feel justified about as they fight for independence and nationhood. Israel today is a far more powerful country, with friends such as the US, UK, Canada, and many other post-industrial nations. Mr. Biden to compare October 7, 2023, with the Holocaust, when millions of Palestinians today are under siege by Israel trying to root out Hamas terrorists, was inappropriate and a "question-begging epithet". I discuss this some more on The Neoliberal Round podcast and YouTube channel, plus explore the question of, "how can we reconcile "freedom of expression" and "speech" with "hate speech"? And, "can we legislate on hate and love"? Sincerely, Rev. Renaldo C. The Prey and the Predator: Understanding Human and Animal Responses to Conflict, by Renaldo McKenzie

The Prey and the Predator: Understanding Human and Animal Responses to Conflict, by Renaldo McKenzie

The NeoLiberal - In the complex and fraught arena of conflict, the dynamics between predator and prey often mirror those seen in the natural world. When attacked and cornered, the instinctive responses of fright, flight, or fight come to the fore. This fundamental survival mechanism, ingrained in both humans and animals, shapes the course of conflicts and wars.

On October 7th, 2023, the world witnessed a tragic escalation of violence as Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel, resulting in the loss of hundreds of Israeli lives. Hamas justified this action as resistance to occupation and years of provocations. In response, Israel retaliated with overwhelming force, resulting in the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions. However, the roots of the Israel-Palestine conflict run much deeper than this recent escalation.... What's Trinidad? Caribbean Trinidad and Tobago, Trinibad Artiste shares his story, explaining this new genre of music from Trinidad. We met up while Shawa was walking his dog at the park in Germantown Philadelphia. We started a conversation that led to several discoveries and this 10-minute trailer episode of the series, "What's Your Story", part 9. We hope to sit down with him later to finish the episode where we plan to do a full hour of interview talking about his music and life and exploring this new music and playing some of his songs. This episode is a short episode with Shawa live and raw. He was passionate and interesting as he talked about Afro-Caribbean music and people. Shawa is also an Israelite Priest with the African Israelites. We did not delve too much into his faith or religion. We hope to explore this later on another episode. We added background music and sounds from Shawa's original music and videos to the episode which features Shawa himself.

Note: Please excuse the background sounds or noise as this take was done outdoors with limited control of the external noise. However, the disturbances are faint and should not interfere with the audio by the participants.

Caribbean Thought Lecture 10 (Full Session) at Jamaica Theological Seminary by Prof Renaldo McKenzie

Caribbean Thought Lecture 10 (Full Session) at Jamaica Theological Seminary by Prof Renaldo McKenzie

The question may arise, as it relates to the course and what we are contending for, why are we focussed on Haiti? Every time I teach the course the focus is different, yet the conclusions are almost identical. This semester focuses on Haiti, as a case study when studying the Caribbean position in the world today and the currents that have led to its invention as we contend for a reinvented Caribbean in the 21st century. The Lecture begins by analyzing the course and why we are focussing on Haiti by highlighting the idea behind the textbook which is a case study about Jamaica speaking about the Caribbean and global south experience in a post-colonial post-independent world. The Professor uses this to support the ways we are approaching the course. Much like the film Life and Debt a documentary film about Jamaica's socio-political-economic history based on a book about Antigua entitled "A Small Place". The Professor makes the point how each Caribbean experience from colonization to independence and to now has followed similar paths in relation to their position in the world and the international strategies that have come to formulate the Caribbean as an invention. Rev. Renaldo surveys Caribbean economic history drawing on several theorists from the Caribbean and the post-colonial such as Ramesh Ramsarwan, Rex Nettleford, Nelson and Nelson, C.L. R. James, Walter Rodney, and his own work, Neoliberalism book 1. The Lecture also featured a special guest Lecturer, Fr. Hyvenson Josephs, a Haitian American originally from Haiti who is an episcopal Priest living in Florida. He provided the latest update on Haiti indicating that Haitians are demanding a Haitian-led solution that follows the constitution of Haiti. However, Dr. Henry is exiled but remains as the Installed PM by the foreign gang of four - US, Germany, France, and Canada. Further, it was revealed that Canada is training a small group of Jamaican military to go to Haiti to help with security. The Lecture was powerful and ended with Rev. Renaldo McKenzie reviewing an article for the Jamaica Gleaner on the importance of exploring Attitudes Toward Afro-Caribbean Beliefs and Traditions and problematizing the immigration issue. The Class was done via the Zoom platform for the course, Caribbean Thought involving several students registered for the course at Jamaica Theological Seminary, https://jts.edu.jm. Trump V Biden 2: Exploring NYC Black & Brown People's Support for President on The NeoLiberal Round

Trump V Biden 2: Exploring NYC Black & Brown People's Support for President on The NeoLiberal Round

We did a unique study, polling black and brown people's support for Trump or Biden in New York City, particularly Harlem, Manhattan to ascertain how the black and brown population would vote if the elections were called today. This is part 2 of a series in response to a video clip on Twitter showing how blacks in Chicago are supporting Trump. We at The NeoLiberal Round decided to conduct a study via the podcast where we ask black and brown people at random who they are voting for and whether they are Republicans or Democrats and also their socio-economic status (financially stable or not), plus other demographical questions such as age, heritage - Caribbean, Latin America or African American with little to no connections to any foreign heritage, etc. The interviews comprised over 25 individuals from various age groups and political affiliations. We aired the interviews of the individuals who agreed to be interviewed on the show for the broadcast. The episode also contains an in-depth analysis of the interviews with the respondents. It wraps up at the end with a summary of the findings and the interviews which included a comparison of Philly black voters against NYC Black Voters. The findings will be published in The NeoLiberal Journals and The NeoLiberal Post at The NeoLiberal Corporation The episode is a compilation of the various video interviews we conducted between March 10th and March 30th in NYC on location at 125th and Morningside and other locations in Harlem. The episode starts with a clip excerpt of the respondents and the host on several takes mashed together for a sensational and epic blend which then segways into the introduction by the Host of the individual short interviews. This episode has over 10 respondents on short clips between 28 seconds and 4 minutes. Summary Points: 1. Many people who are Democrats say that they are voting for Trump, but the Republicans we spoke to indicated that they are voting for or supporting Biden. 2. Four/Five years ago, when Trump ran against Biden, many if not most New Yorkers in NYC, who may have been supporting or thinking about voting for Trump, would not bravely share or discuss this with anyone; for their safety and sanity. Today, that is not the case, as is evident in the episode, since many publicly, boldly, and bravely discussed some in groups with other onlookers around and others spoke so loudly as if they were delivering a gospel message at an outdoor church service. How does the Support differ? 3. College-educated, Versus the non-college 4. Financially stable Vis-a-vis those struggling economically and getting by on odd jobs or low wages 5. Caribbean/West Indians 6. Latin and Hispanic Americans 6. Abortion, Conservative Values 7. White Americans who are politically entrenched 8. Younger people versus Older peoples 9. Verbalizing support versus actually going out to vote on election day. This episode was created, written, filmed, edited, and produced by Renaldo McKenzie, the President of The NeoLiberal Corporation, Doctoral Candidate at Georgetown Univ, and Author of Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance. Hyvenson Josephs updating the Caribbean Thought class at Jamaica Theological Seminary regarding the latest in #haiti as we explore Post-Independent #caribbean today and the challenge for #democracy: We learned that: 1. The gangs have taken over the country including the National Library and Museum stealing art pieces worth millions. 2. Dr. Ariel Henry is still exiled in #puertorico but refuses to resign until his idea for a presidential college is implemented, as the #haitian constitution is rebuffed by the actions of a foreign core group pulling Haiti's strings. 3. Haitians continue to call for a #haitian-led solution 4. while #canada, one of the core group of post-industrial countries that controls Haiti trains #jamaican military to go to #haiti ignoring #caricom's charter promoting Caribbean Unity and Independence as it safeguards Caribbean Sovereignty. 5. The gangs feel justified in their takeover highlighting the external gangs that control Haiti today which is unconstitutional. The full Lecture will be available on Sunday April 7, 2024, on The NeoLiberal Round Podcast on any podcast stream. The Erosion of Childhood Social Media, Substance Use, and the Crisis in Psycho-Social Development

The Erosion of Childhood Social Media, Substance Use, and the Crisis in Psycho-Social Development

In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, the traditional framework for children's psycho-social development is being eroded. The slow, deliberate exposure to stimuli that once characterized childhood has been replaced by a world where social media reigns supreme, parental guidance is often lacking, and tolerance for potentially harmful behaviors such as marijuana use is on the rise. Gone are the days when children could navigate the complexities of social interaction at their own pace, guided by parental wisdom and faith-based values. Instead, they find themselves thrust into an environment where reality TV and pop culture glorify superficiality over substance, leaving them ill-equipped to engage meaningfully with others. The consequences of this societal shift are dire. We are witnessing a disturbing uptick in senseless killings, suicides, and mental health crises among our youngest citizens. The correlation between these tragedies and the increasing prevalence of drug use, particularly marijuana, cannot be ignored. As the age at which children are exposed to these substances continues to plummet, so too does their likelihood of experiencing long-term effects on brain development, personality, and mental well-being.... Commentary: On A Quick Note: Unfair Competitive Practices: The Root Cause of Immigration Crisis

Commentary: On A Quick Note: Unfair Competitive Practices: The Root Cause of Immigration Crisis

Recently, I published an article in The NeoLiberal Journals exploring the immigration problem concerning the context of a competitive world where the few continue their dominance and advantages at the expense of post-industrial nations still navigating their new independence which has left them dependent and even poorer or more vulnerable. This episode presents the article and provides some more commentary on the issue delving into the realities that many pundits and analysts have not included when addressing the immigration crisis, especially at the border today which continues to be a political issue that has helped to thwart any real solution to the problem. The article is available for reading in #theneoliberalcorporation journals at https://theneoliberal.com/the-neoliberal-journals at theneoliberal.com. The article was written by Renaldo McKenzie, author of Neoliberalism books 1 and 2 an Adjunct Professor at Jamaica Theological Seminary, Doctoral Candidate and a Faculty Student Advisor at Georgetown University Temple University, and a graduate University of Penn. Renaldo studied #philosophy at the University of the West Indies and was ordained by the United Church in Jamaica and The Cayman Islands. Do You Support Trump or Biden? Part 1: Who are Black and Brown Peoples in Philly Hoods Support.

Do You Support Trump or Biden? Part 1: Who are Black and Brown Peoples in Philly Hoods Support.

In this first episode series exploring the black and brown support for #trump or #biden, #trumpvsbiden, The NeoLiberal Round and The NeoLiberal Corporation took to the streets in the hood of Philly to gauze support in response to another show indicating support growing among blacks in #chicago. We wanted to know if this was the same thing in other black and brown communities and decided to create a podcast series to do just that on The NeoLiberal Round Podcast. We interviewed over 10 people at random, in #philadelphia, some in groups and some individually. The responses were mixed but quite revealing as we found that blacks in #philly were supporting Trump but not all. We delve deep into exploring support for Trump or Biden. We found that most men who are unstable or younger men who lack money and limited exposure to the news, are supporting Trump, while those who are already politically connected are supporting Biden Further, we found that while many are supporting Trump, these same individuals are not actually going out to vote as we asked if they will actually go out to vote on elections day. Many said no but still support Trump. We spoke with only 2 - 3 women, one was very sympathetic towards Trump and would support him, but will not vote. The other is anti-Trump given the issue of abortion rights. Educated and middle-aged men who are college educated and working a stable job seem to be supporting Biden and will vote, and those who are concerned with losing their social services. The interviews were done among several people over several days between March 1 and March 31, 2024. The interviews were raw and done at random within homes on the fly for quick and immediate replies. The video contains strong language nd smoking. The episode was intense, powerful, and compact with strong opinions from the various groups. It was also funny, deep, and yes academic and political since we conducted anthropological research about political issues. Part 2 will be released tomorrow April 2, 2024, at Midnight and will feature residents from #newyorkcity The episode is available in video via YouTube by The NeoLiberal Round Channel, and via Spotify via #theneoliberalround #podcast. The video will also be available in audio Podcast on any podcast stream. Find yours here  @SpotifyforPodcasters : https://anchor.fm/theneoliberal. Part 2: Caribbean Thought Lecture 9: Should Theology Transcend Culture? Exploring Attitudes Towards Afro-Caribbean

Part 2: Caribbean Thought Lecture 9: Should Theology Transcend Culture? Exploring Attitudes Towards Afro-Caribbean

This is a continuation of a Lecture we released for the Podcast and YouTube Channel yesterday. This is part 2 of Caribbean Thought Lecture 9, entitled, Should Theology Transcend Culture? Exploring Attitudes Towards Afro-Caribbean Beliefs and Traditions in Jamaica and the Caribbean and its diaspora. We picked up from where we left off. Part 1 is available on #TheNeoliberalRound Podcast and discusses the following:

1. Should Theology Transcend Culture?

2. Is the #haitian treaty with #kenya legal and binding?

3. What opportunities does #artificialintelligence provide for the #caribbean?

3b. And what are the challenges?

#CaribbeanThought Lecture 9 at Jamaica Theological Seminary. https://open.spotify.com/episode/4gDQANFiM8yBvqfcvSd1x8?si=d___uUIkSGW5ga-CyhIUuA on Spotify or any stream.

Part 2, is a debate between the professor and some students about Afro-Caribbean Beliefs and whether or not the Jamaican government should legalize the practice of Obeah which is an Afro-Caribbean tradition utilized in some religions such as the Revivalists. Voodoo is a version of Obeah and was never meant to harm but to draw on the power of ancestors to fight the Europeans who were opposed to Obeah and other Afro-Caribbean traditions of the slaves. The British like the French outlawed many African traditions including Obeah. We discussed this highly divisive contentious issue in part 2 of the lecture which was done in one sitting but we split it up in two as the Lecture was over 3 1/2 hours. we have had previous lectures on the subject which can be accessed via The Neoliberal Round Channel Playlists: Caribbean Thought Lecture Series.

Leadership in Peril: The Weight of Words in the Shadows of History - The NeoLiberal Blogs

Leadership in Peril: The Weight of Words in the Shadows of History. #leaders must be careful when they speak. It is unacceptable and inexcusable for #donaldtrump to say there's gonna be a #bloodbath even if he were referring to the socio-economic ramifications of voting for #joebiden . #trump's speeches may have led to #January6th, so he must "toe the line" as some of his #maga supporters in the GOP with extremists bent may misrepresent his statements for a call to repeat #January6thInsurrection. We must learn from #history, but clearly, we have not. Yet, we have systems in place to prevent a #bloodbath, The US Justice Department is not working, as the system such as #ussupremecourt in place driven by #humancondition is now making excuses as to why they can't prevent another one JANUARY 6TH or to implement and execute #laws that limit the actions of those who may want to do so...again.....

Understanding the TikTok Ban: Safeguarding American Interests in a Competitive World

Understanding the TikTok Ban: Safeguarding American Interests in a Competitive World

Question: Is it fair for China to limit American Social Media such as Twitter and Facebook, while TikTok is thriving in the US, taking over the social media market in the US? When one understands Congress's decision to pass a bipartisan bill to ban TikTok, it was at first based on flimsy arguments about China using the platform to influence American voters, which seemed convoluted at best as most voting Americans are not on TikTok, and many Americans use TikTok to promote and grow their brands and businesses. Moreover, there is nothing that's stopping China and Russia from using any platform through AI technology to promote fake messages that may influence the electorate. All those arguments provided by Congress why we should ban pales in comparison to the fierce competition for dominance between the US and China. #tiktokban #bantiktok On this episode of The NeoLiberal Round Podcast, we present a news article editorial/ commentary that was published in The NeoLiberal Post at renaldocmckenzie.com, and The NeoLiberal Corporation Moral Magazine, The NeoLiberal Journals at https://theneoliberal.com. This is the audio and video presentation of the article which includes additional arguments and commentaries that are not included in the original essay. The article opens like this: "In today’s competitive world, the global stage is fraught with political and economic competition, and one of the key players in this arena is TikTok, an imported good from China. The rise of TikTok in the US market has sparked debates surrounding its impact on American social media platforms and the need to protect national interests. China’s strict control over social media within its borders contrasts sharply with the thriving presence of TikTok in the US. This dichotomy raises concerns about the asymmetrical nature of the relationship, where American platforms like X and Facebook are banned in China while TikTok enjoys unhindered access to the US market. The ban on TikTok in the US, while seen by some as a violation of #FreedomOfSpeech or #FreedomOfExpression, can also be viewed as a safeguarding measure to protect American interests. By restricting TikTok, the US aims to counterbalance China’s control over its media and prevent potential interference in American affairs," (McKenzie, Renaldo, C. https://theneoliberal.com/understanding-the-tiktok-ban-safeguarding-american-interests-in-a-competitive-world/).

News Commentary Report: Deciphering Support for Trump V Biden Among Black Voters in Philadelphia

News Commentary Report: Deciphering Support for Trump V Biden Among Black Voters in Philadelphia

Published in The NeoLiberal Journals: As we delve into the dynamics of political support in Philadelphia’s black community, a pertinent question arises: Is there a growing base of support for Trump among black voters in the city, or is it confined to a subset concerned primarily about financial matters? This query navigates through complex layers of political allegiance and socioeconomic considerations. While some individuals within the black community express support for Trump, notably driven by financial concerns, a significant portion of them indicate a reluctance to cast their ballots in his favor. Conversely, another segment comprising educated blacks, considered relatively stable, demonstrates a tendency to participate in the electoral process while refraining from supporting Trump. The challenge for pollsters lies in deciphering the true extent of Trump’s support vis-a-vis actual election day outcomes. The discrepancy between vocal support and tangible voting behavior presents a puzzle that requires nuanced interpretation... Travel Advisory and Ad deals as Tools for Control: US Slap Travel Advisory on Jamaica

Travel Advisory and Ad deals as Tools for Control: US Slap Travel Advisory on Jamaica

#caribbean and #postindependent countries and #blackcelebrities and peoples should not allow the privilege to use hashtag#traveladvisories and #ad deals, such as #sneaker deals that  @NBA  players have with Nike, to take away their freedoms and independence. Travel Advisory as Tool to Control: US Slapped #Travel Advisory on Jamaica -#theneoliberalcorporation That is why our hashtag#wealth has to be organic and not hinged on the external or those who continue to use such tools to weaponize themselves against any competition from the historically poor. The US State Dept issuance of a hashtag#traveladvisory on the island of hashtag#Jamaica is a strategic move by the US to limit the rising competition and to control the island as Jamaica is not unstable and has been gaining while lowering hashtag#crimeandviolence. Cities in the US is dealing with mass shootings and rising crime and violence while Jamaica's Jamaica's murder rate has cut in half when compared to last year. Yet the US used this calm moment to issue a travel advisory against Jamaica citing rising homicides when this is not widespread and limited to certain inner-cities like that of Philadelphia and Chicago yet there is no travel advisory not to travel to Philadelphia. However, the US does not like to be outshined by poorer peoples and countries. So they have sought to slap a punitive action against Jamaica to continue to enslave the peoples into doing its bidding or to limit the competition. Every country has the right to advise its citizens, but it must be reasonable and fair. Moreover, smaller countries should not allow themselves to be bullied by bigger countries using such tactics to control. That is why hashtag#caribbean unity and integration is pivotal and Black and Brown and working-class people must remain supportive and together. Americans must not allow our government to continue these dictatorial and unfair tactics of the Caribbean and black countries. News Update Round Up On Haiti: Is a Haitian-Led Solution Possible?

News Update Round Up On Haiti: Is a Haitian-Led Solution Possible?

QuestionGiven the chaos in Haiti, is a Haitian-Led Solution Possible? If it is, will it succeed? Recently, Renaldo McKenzie, Creator and Host of The NeoLiberal Round Podcast and YouTube Channel, and Senior Editor of The NeoLiberal Journals interviewed Fr. Hyvenson Josephs, a Haitian American, scholar, Episcopal Priest and Professor to discuss the latest situation in Haiti. The interview was revealing and breaking providing commentary and new details about the situation in Haiti.

1. Dr. Ariel Henry is now in Puerto Rico after being denied entry into the Dominica Republic enroute to Haiti. Dr. Ariel the Installed Prime Minister of Haiti, who is currently exile from the country, was in Nairobi Kenya signing a Treaty to allow for bilateral relations between the two countries. The treaty was needed to satisfy Kenya’s courts over ruling and objecting to the request for Kenya to send a peace keeping force to Haiti. The treaty was signed and as such would provide the greenlight allowing Kenya to send the force. However, it is not clear as to whether the treaty was legal and constitutional as Dr. Ariel Henry’s authority to sign such a treaty violates Haitian law and constitution since he was installed and not elected and not the President of Haiti. Moreover, Dr. Ariel Henry was asked not to return to Haiti by the gangs and the police who are closely monitoring the ports of entry for Henry’s arrival. It is interesting to point out that the police and gangs are not working together, yet, they both have taken over the airports and oppose to the return of Dr. Henry.

2. Dr. Ariel Henry was asked to step down by the US Department of State and is set to travel to Jamaica where he will announce his resignation. What is perplexing is that while in power, Ariel was unpopular among majority of the Haitian peoples who have asked him to step down. yet he held onto power for a long time since his installment by the gang of 4 including France, Canada, US, and to a lesser degree UK and Brazil. It was not until foreigners asked him to resign that he relented, but refused the protestations of his own people. This suggests that even Ariel rejected Haiti’s own independence, sovereignty and democracy, appealing to the external rather than the internal.

3. CARICOM heads are meeting with a select group of Haitian ministers to discuss a way forward.

4. Haiti is still in a State-of-Emergency as over 98 % of prisoners, from three of the major prisons representing over 80% of all prisoners, remain at large with no solution in sight. It is not clear if the criminals will make their way to other countries given the millions of migrants who are crossing various borders in the Americas today.

Question: given the chaos, is a Haitian-led solution possible and if it is will it succeed?

The Crisis Deepens in Haiti Featuring Fr. Hyvenson Josephs with Renaldo McKenzie Pt.1 (Full Episode)

(Full Episode) Breaking News and Update on the Haitian Crisis: We interviewed Fr. Hyvenson Josephs, an Episcopalian Priest, Professor and Haitian American, on the situation in Haiti. The dialogue was quite revealing going deeper into the crisis and providing updates and clarification on the news surrounding the #prisonbreak and #arielhenry exile and some recent developments on the Gangs and the Police taking over the airports to prevent the Installed Prime Minister Dr. Ariel Henri returning to the island. Moreover, Fr. Joseph corrected earlier reports that 80 % of prisoners had escaped; indicating that 98 % of the prisoners escaped from three of the largest state prisons with criminals on death row and or those charged with the assassination of the then PM Jovenelle Moise in 2023. Furthermore, Fr. Hyvenson reported that the country is still in a state of emergency which we thought may be termed chaos; as the PM is now in Puerto Rico after being denied entry into DR. He was then asked by the US Department of State to step down which he plans to do when he travels to Jamaica where he is hoping to get the protection of the Jamaicans. In the meantime, Fr. Josephs reports that CARICOM is meeting with a select committee of Haitian Ministers to discuss a way forward. The prisoners remain at large with no plans to recapture them, while the police and the chief relationship sour over accusations of collusion with the gangs. The gangs had boldly announced that they were going to free the prisoners which they did. BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court Overturns Colorado Decision Barring Trump from Ballot

BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court Overturns Colorado Decision Barring Trump from Ballot

BREAKING NEWS: The United States Supreme Court has made a groundbreaking decision, overturning Colorado’s lower court's ruling that barred former President Donald Trump from appearing on the ballot in Colorado. However, this decision diverges from a strict interpretation of the law, as it hinges on subjective interpretations rather than adhering strictly to legal precedent. The justices opted for an approach that emphasizes inferred implications rather than a direct measure of the law, setting a precedent that is both unprecedented and ominous in its potential ramifications. The US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Colorado’s lower court’s ruling to bar Trump from the ballot was based, in my estimation, on the implication of the law and not the spirit or measure of the law and constitution. This therefore sets a precedence imbuing the justices with the powers to challenge the Constitution by asserting their subjective opinions on the implications of following the spirit of the laws. Now let us see what their decision means for our lives going forward. In effect, that is what pertains from their finality on whether Trump violates the Constitution and deserves to run again. It opens the door for opportunists who may want to repeat January 6. While the courts kicked the matter to the politicians, it is important to point out that politicians are never best at making laws about themselves that limit their powers and while we wait for that to happen a repeat offender has the green light to do so again following their decision. Furthermore, what about state's rights and individual's rights? we are quick to appeal to states rights but now we are limiting states rights? According to reports from the Associated Press, the Supreme Court's decision marks a turning point in the ongoing debate over Trump's role in the 2024 presidential primaries. Rejecting efforts by several states to exclude Trump from the ballot due to his involvement in the Capitol riot, the Court emphasized that the authority to regulate presidential candidates lies within the purview of Congress, rather than individual states. This case represents a pivotal moment in constitutional interpretation, as it grapples with the implications of the 14th Amendment's post-Civil War provisions. Specifically, the Court's ruling addresses the amendment's intent to disqualify individuals who have "engaged in insurrection" from holding public office again. Trailer One to Caribbean Thought Lecture 7

In this Excerpt of Lecture 7, the students reflect on their experience and findings of a selected Caribbean Nation. Some of the students, if not all seem to suggest that many Caribbean people carry a grudge against Jamaicans as that was their experience when visiting there. The students discussed why this was so and highlighted how Jamaica had pulled out of the West Indian Federation in the 1950s and that in many islands such as Trinidad, Jamaicans are seen as hard-working and getting most of the profits. Sheldon's journey is not just about personal achievement but about honoring the memory of his beloved grandmother and contributing to a cause close to his heart - the fight against leukemia. The year 2022 marked a significant loss for Sheldon as he bid farewell to his grandmother, who succumbed to leukemia. This heartbreaking experience became a catalyst for Sheldon's deep involvement in raising awareness and funds for leukemia research. His journey began when he joined his company, @usbank, in their participation in Light The Night, a campaign organized by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (@LLSusa). Sheldon, along with his team named Dare to Believe, embarked on a mission to make a tangible difference in the fight against leukemia. Their dedication and determination led them to explore various avenues to contribute meaningfully to the cause. Beyond simply participating in events, they sought to deepen their engagement and support for leukemia research, driven by a shared vision of finding a cure. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has been at the forefront of leukemia research, advocacy, and patient support for decades. When did Financial Institutions such as “Wells Fargo” become Human and Social Services Workers or Agencies?

When did Financial Institutions such as “Wells Fargo” become Human and Social Services Workers or Agencies?

A Wendy Williams Special News Report: Exploring The Role of Family in Human & Social Welfare Versus Wells Fargo's decision to appoint an independent family member with the court's blessings. In light of the Wendy Williams docu-series, one must ask a serious question about the professionalism of banks making CYS recommendations involving human and social welfare to the courts about care and guardianship of individuals when such recommendations need specialists trained and licensed to make that recommendation and decision. IT SHOULD BE HUMAN AND SOCIAL WELFARE WORKERS MAKING SUCH RECOMMENDATIONS to the courts. Furthermore, the CARE should include and involve FAMILIES. That has been the modus operandi of human and social services for decades, so what has changed, and what is going on?

Recently, it was revealed that Wendy Williams's bank accounts were frozen and she was appointed an Independent Guardian to provide care and administer Wendy’s affairs and life while her family was shut out, only to watch on the sidelines; orchestrated by Wells Fargo Bank acting as CYS Social Work Professionals making recommendation to the courts of this country who acted on that said recommendation without appropriating family statutes law and care that was best practice.

Child, youth, and family services are geared towards keeping families together in a safe environment with minimal safety risks and hazards, especially when this involves children. Programs such as FGDM are utilized today to identify next-of-kin or family/community in place of state and punitive services to treat and keep the family together. Wells Fargo's decision to get the courts to strip the family from providing care and guardianship of Wendy Williams at a time when she needs family is a draconian solution that has only exacerbated Wendy's problems. There is child care but also adolescent and adult care whereby agencies respond to the children's and entire families’ needs to help the adult become an able members of the community to serve themselves. Community and family. There are systems in place, but it seems as if in Wendy’s case the established system was not used.

Furthermore, it shows how the system and the private sectors work against already established best practices in human and social services in caring for the family. Banks and financial sectors should never make decisions about family care. The banks should have alerted the relevant care providers or make a recommendation. If anything the courts should have thrown out the case as the banks lack precedence and jurisdiction to make such a determination given their lack of training in this regard. Further, the courts should have never sided with the banks to block the family from planning and providing care for Wendy. This suggests collusion and corruption and is a step backward. Moreover, the HHS has been promoting family care in their assisted living programs and services, so the fact that the family is now involved in care to not disrupt the family connections which is pivotal to adult and CYS care and empowerment of individuals in the community.

The docuseries, although hard to watch and said to be exploiting Wendy, was necessary as it revealed a truth about how the courts and banks work to shut out families from their family members' care against what CYS professionals promote. I hope that this will provide openness to discussing care and how banks must never get involved in such decisions. It also puts We...

Revised: Caribbean Thought Lecture 7: Introducing Caribbean Nations, and the Limitations of Black Nationalism Part 1

Revised: Caribbean Thought Lecture 7: Introducing Caribbean Nations, and the Limitations of Black Nationalism Part 1

The Lecture this week was multifaceted and covered a wide: Exploring The islands of The Caribbean and The Limitations of Garveyism, Black Nationationasm and NeoLiberal Globalization. The Lecture delivered by Rev. Renaldo McKenzie, Author of NeoLiberal Globalization Reconsidered, Adjunct Professor in Caribbean Thought at Jamaica Theological Seminary. The class was very interactive and engaging as the students provided a report describing the Caribbean Islands. However, the class reviewed last week's Lecture entitled: The Paradox of Sovereignty: Cuba and Haiti's Struggle for Freedom and the Challenge of Development (Chapter Excerpt). We answered the Brain Teaser Quiz and delved deeper into what the activity revealed or was driving home. Brain Teaser: Quiz What do Haiti and Cuba not have in common with D.R., Jamaica, Trinidad, and Barbados? 1. Poorest in the world 2. Black and brown peoples 3. Granted freedoms 4. Taken Freedoms 5. Embargoes and shaky diplomacy and international relations 6. Debt, dependency and non-competitiveness 7. Formerly colonized Options: A. 2, 5, 6 and 7 B. 1, 4 and 5 C. 1 only 3 D. 3 and 4 E. 1, 3, and 4 F. All of the above The Answer Reveals A Complex Tapestry of Independence and Adversity. With its vibrant cultures, rich histories, and diverse peoples, the Caribbean region has long been a subject of fascination and study. A Deeper Look: Taken Freedoms and Nationalist Independence Leads to Mixed Results. In the mosaic of the Caribbean, two nations, Cuba and Haiti, stand out not only for their vibrant cultures and tumultuous histories but also for the unique paths they traversed in their quests for freedom and independence. While their counterparts, including the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad, and Barbados, attained their freedoms through colonial concessions, Cuba and Haiti defiantly seized their destinies, forging independent nations amid the crucible of revolution and resistance. However, the seemingly noble act of self-liberation has been fraught with profound challenges, perpetuating a paradox wherein the pursuit of sovereignty has engendered poverty, instability, and diplomatic isolation on the world stage. Cuba and Haiti's decision to take their freedoms into their own hands, eschewing the shackles of colonial rule, is emblematic of their fierce determination to chart autonomous development trajectories. Haiti's groundbreaking revolution in 1804 shattered the chains of slavery, establishing the world's first black republic and inspiring oppressed peoples globally to aspire for liberation. Similarly, Cuba's revolutionary struggle in the 20th century, culminating in Fidel Castro's ascent to power in 1959, heralded a new era of socialist governance and national sovereignty. However, the euphoria of liberation soon collided with the harsh realities of post-colonial existence as both nations grappled with.... Notes available in #theneoliberalcommentary via LinkedIn on Sunday 2.26.24. The Lecture then segwayed into the new topic on: Question: What distinguishes Haiti and Cuba from the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad, and Barbados? Please answer and provide a brief synopsis of these islands, their socio-political economy, religions, demographics and histories, and their current position today? A Quick Note: The Neoliberal Corporation, is that good optics?

A Quick Note: The Neoliberal Corporation, is that good optics?

The NeoLiberal Journals - Martin Oppenheimer asked me why we were going with The Neoliberal Corporation as a company name. "Is that good optics? I thought you were against #neoliberalcorporations?" This provided an opportunity to discuss the idea behind the name; The NeoLiberal Corporation is bold. It provides a new idea of freedoms free of privileges and strategies that continue class and categories in societies. It's a think tank, that uses the name Neoliberal to invite conversations and critical thinking on society. So, it's a novel name that is a play-up on words (pun) which suggests the irony of it. Neoliberal Corporations are the opposite of what they should be. The NeoLiberal Corporation embrace the true ideals of a free world. A world that portends to the ultimate of all things. For what is the ultimate of all things? The ultimate of all things is that we live together as one in all of our individualities and varying realities devoid of privilege. A man said once you label me you negate me. We live in a world of categories that divide and put people against each other. That is the death of humanity upending years of progress. What is the ultimate of all things? That we become one with reality and with humanity in all of our individuality. A man said, “Once you label me, you negate me” (Kierkegaard). Indeed, the culture of categories, groups, and labels minimizes, mitigates, and or manages change. (What is the “Ultimate” of All Things? Caribbean Thought Lecture 6: Caribbean as part of Black Americas History: Tracing our History

Caribbean Thought Lecture 6: Caribbean as part of Black Americas History: Tracing our History

In Lecture 6 at the Jamaica Theological Seminary, we continue to explore Caribbean History but as part of the American American experience and the Pan-African experience. We picked up from Lecture 5 sharing a voice-over lecture where Renaldo interact and narrates a material about Caribbean History and DNA. The Lecture then explored the comparative differences between the Caribbean islands and began to discuss the independence and freedoms of black peoples in the Caribbean and the diaspora as an experience that connects the post-colonial peoples in the new world. We utilized a video which features C.L.R James a West Indian mind that has contributed to critical history of the Caribbean and the Haitian Revolution. We touched on Latin Caribbean and the Cuban Revolution, and the civil rights leaders connections to the Caribbean and their experience. The class continues next week. The end is just the beginning. Exploring Attitudes Towards Afro-Caribbean Beliefs Part 2 by Prof. Renaldo McKenzie at Jamaica Theological Seminary

Exploring Attitudes Towards Afro-Caribbean Beliefs Part 2 by Prof. Renaldo McKenzie at Jamaica Theological Seminary

This culminates the Lecture exploring the changing attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean Beliefs at Jamaica Theological Seminary on July 23, 2023. Renaldo provided a powerful climax to the lecture exploring Caribbean Theology and the need to value Caribbean traditions of any influence. The Lecture delivered via the Zoom platform was dynamic and is infused with African drums, reggae music, and classical music in the backgrounds with added images and videos in the background to enhance your listening/viewing experience. Prof. McKenzie discusses with his class the importance and parameters of the study that is being conducted. Abstract: Research Plan: On Valuing African Identity through religious affirmations of African traditions. By examining changing attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean beliefs in Jamaica, this study aims to shed light on the impact of socio-political factors, religion, education, pop culture, travel experiences, and exposure on the evolving perceptions of Jamaicans. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of how societal changes influence cultural attitudes, promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and cultural heritage preservation. Ultimately, this research aims to encourage a more informed and respectful dialogue surrounding Afro-Caribbean beliefs in Jamaican society. Note: See attachment for Research Rationale in a proposal document. Introduction: Title: Exploring Changing Attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean Beliefs in Jamaica: A Study of Socio-Political, Religious, and Cultural Influences Introduction In Jamaica, there has historically been a negative perception towards African and indigenous spiritual practices, religious beliefs, customs, and faiths that draw influences from Urban Indian Heritage or African traditions. Rastafarianism, Obeah, Voodoo, Pocomania or pocco church, revivalists, and Muslim beliefs have often been marginalized, deemed as fringe, demonic, and unpopular, juxtaposed against the inherited traditions from European colonialism. The Judeo-Christian faith, such as Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, and evangelicalism, has been favored and considered closer to the truth and the ideal. However, in the 21st century, with increased exposure, awareness, critical thinking, and a more liberal lifestyle, particularly among the younger generation, it is crucial to investigate whether attitudes towards Afro-Caribbean beliefs are changing. This study aims to explore the shifting attitudes of Jamaicans and the factors contributing to these changes, considering demographics....The full study is available at ResearchGate: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/372364213_Exploring_Changing_Attitudes_towards_Afro-Caribbean_Beliefs_in_JamaicaCaribbean_A_Study_of_Socio-Political_Religious_and_Cultural_Influences Renaldo McKenzie is an Adjunct Professor at Jamaica Theological Seminary and has Lectured several courses including Caribbean Theology and Caribbean Thought, Apologetics, Christian History and Discipleship and Evangelism. Caribbean Thought Lecture 5: Tracing our Heritage and Roots: From Arawak to Africans

Caribbean Thought Lecture 5: Tracing our Heritage and Roots: From Arawak to Africans

Semester 2, 2024 at The Jamaica Theological Seminary: This week, we begin to loosely develop an outline of Caribbean History leading to its invention and beyond. We had already laid the foundation discussing the importance of going as far back as to Homer where Western civilization's foundations of knowledge begins. The Caribbean as part of the New World and the Americas was reinvented with the coming of the Europeans who were looking an opportunity to dominate and extract wealth in the race to be the leading European country.

1. -1492-3 - Columbus- knowledge religion people wealth  -Ulterior motive: gold/profit/greed/international competition capital

- British Take-over

-Slave trade The Lecture then moved into the main presentation responding to the question: Have We Misunderstood Our History?

“Redefining a people so as to misclassify their identity and conceal their heritage is tantamount to genocide”

If strategy is employed that continues the dynamics today, that had once characterized the transatlantic slave trade, then a re-examination of Jamaica’s identity and heritage is warranted, specifically in relation to the Tainoe people, who were the original inhabitants of our land. While acknowledging the presence of East Indians and Chinese who arrived during the era of indentured labor after the abolition of slavery in 1865, the majority of the population, comprising individuals with black or brown skin, is believed to have African ancestry following the eradication of the Arawak Indians by the Spanish. This sets Jamaica apart from other Spanish-occupied West Indian islands like Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, and Suriname, which retained a small native Indian population despite the Spanish invasion. Jamaica’s history documents the replacement of the native population with African slaves brought there by the Spanish. After the English defeated the Spanish in 1655, Jamaica became a significant port for the slave trade and sugar exportation. However, there is limited information available regarding the slaves and individuals whom the Spanish had freed following their defeat. It is uncertain whether the small group of people who served the Spanish during their rule were of African or Indian origin, as the extensive trade of Africans to the island did not occur before 1655. Nonetheless, those who were freed by the Spanish sought refuge in the mountains and established Maroon communities that persist to this day. Were these the original Indians? Have we misunderstood our history?[1]

Jamaica’s identity extends beyond ethnicity; we encompass a diverse range of people united as one. However, it is undeniable that the majority of our population has a predominant African heritage, stemming from the era of the slave trade. The Urban Indian Heritage Society is currently challenging this narrative by presenting compelling research and data which suggest that Jamaicans have a rich history connected to the native Indians of the island.[2] They argue that genealogical research reveals an urban American Indian root in Jamaica, providing an alternative perspective to our historical understanding.

Listen to the over 2 hour Lecture with added music and sounds to enhance your listening experience at our pleasure.

The Lecture was delivered on Friday February the 9th 2024 at the Jamaica Theological Seminary via Zoom to students in the Caribbean Thought Semester 2 course. The course includes a research paper and final exam that the students will take in order to meet the requirements of graduation. The course is a 2200 level course.

The Lecture is delivered by Rev. Renaldo McKenzie, Adjunct Professor at Jamaica Theological Seminary, Author of "Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance," and the upcoming book: Neoliberal Globalization Reconsidered, Neo-Capitalism and the Death of Nations, co-authored by Professor Emeritus, Dr. Martin Oppenheimer.

Child, Youth, Family and Homelessness in Philadelphia Part 2, Featuring David Fair, CYS Chief

On this episode of The Neoliberal Round, David Fair provided an update on the homelessness crisis in Philadelphia, with news of the city of Philadelphia's plan to close several transitional housing programs. The episode begins with a short introduction lifting up a breaking news from the interview then we went straight into the interview and discussions.Renaldo began the dialogue with David like this: "l'd like to welcome back David Fair to the podcast. David, the last time we spoke, we delved into the pressing issue of homelessness in Philadelphia. You emphasized the need for increased funding and a reevaluation of how the city identifies and supports the homeless population, noting that the current method may underestimate the true numbers. Today, I'm eager to hear about any developments since our last conversation.Furthermore, I noticed your recent LinkedIn comment regarding a new bill aimed at providing a subsidy for those aging out of the foster care system, (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/davidfairpartners_congressman-robert-garcia-and-congresswoman-activity-7155232416587010048-S1q4?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop). This bill, introduced by Congressman Robert Garcia and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, proposes a guaranteed basic income of $1,000 per month for young adults exiting foster care for five years. This initiative has the potential to significantly impact the lives of foster youth, potentially reducing youth homelessness and the demand for various support services, (see https://omar.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-robert-garcia-and-congresswoman-ilhan-omar-introduces-bill-provide).
