From Hopeless to Hopeful with Happiness Habits
This week's episode is about going from hopeless to hopeful with happiness habits. Today's guest is Alina Haiduc, a Confidence Mindset + Happiness Habits Coach joins Shelly for another empowering and supportive episode. This episode covers Alina's story, the depressive state, Alina's tools, and habits that helped her through.
Alina was dealt some rough cards in early 2020 from health struggles, losing custody of her kids, and then of course the pandemic. Luckily, with the support from those around her, a change in perspective, and being aware of the habits she was creating, she was able to get through it. Now she wants to help others do the same by becoming aware of their habits and start doing something different. She has a wide range of tools including therapy, connecting with the right people, reframing, meditation, being the voice of the good parent inside you, and more. When you are depressed, it can feel impossible to make a change and like you have no control, especially when struck with limiting thoughts. Being in this state is difficult but this is a journey and not a quick fix.
Alina with some readjustment, meeting her fears face to face and the other tools in her tool belt began to experience change, slowly but surely. She was able to take charge of her thoughts and understand where they came from. Tune in to hear Alina's full story and tools to help you today. Remember it's okay to not be okay and to seek a professional if you need to!
Alina's Bio:
Live fully alive and build a strong character that creates lasting confidence and joy as well as a successful life – this is on your terms!
I am a transformational coach with a great passion for building happy, confident people and leaders for a better world. As a result of my coaching, spiritual ambitious professionals:
Build their levels of confidence to a 10/10 and a solid sense of self-worth.
Take control of their daily levels of fulfillment and joy by practicing proven happiness habits, which further empower them to grow in all areas of their lives.
What makes me feel alive and at full potential is helping people treat themselves and the world in a positive and constructive way. Over the years I have turned my gift and passion into my profession.
While I am a certified John Maxwell Leadership Coach, trainer, speaker, and a certified emotion code practitioner, my skills, my background, and my life are very diverse.
I come from Romania and grew up in Bucharest and in my grandparents’ heavenly village in the green hills of Transylvania. I studied political science in Bucharest, international relations in London and graduated from a Canadian Romanian MBA.
Before becoming a certified coach, I worked in international affairs with the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry and in education for a short while with the Bucharest Academy of political science. I honed my business skills in international trade and the healthcare industry.
My skills and passions have always had one converging point: the desire to reach out to people in an empowering way, using all my knowledge and compassion, to help them achieve clarity and enrich their lives in spirituality, finances, careers, and relationships.
I am an avid reader and my curiosity and thirst for constant improvement have been my best friends. I believe that God, out inner dialogue, education, and self-education are our most powerful allies. I strongly believe that love is the greatest healer, and nobody needs to suffer- especially not alone. I used to dream I could reach out and change lives as a politician. I found I was not yet ready for that path so I decided I would be a force for good in other powerful ways.
A Journey of Pride
Well it’s Pride Month and there’s no better way to honor it than to hear a real coming out story from a friend. Shelly has invited her friend Dave to share his path to becoming his true self and sharing that with those around him. He begins at the point of realizing his attraction to men, his tenuous path forward up to the moment that solidified his suspicions. He talks about the decision to come out to his family, which was met with surprise, but also acceptance and support.
He discusses so many things that you will be able to relate to, whether it’s yourself or a family member or a friend. The fear of public affection before coming out, the worry that he wouldn’t be able to have the job that he wanted, family and social pressure, worrying about being accepted, guilt from past beliefs and experiences, and how he found much of that to be nonsense once he bravely showed the world who he was.
He also acknowledges that he was very lucky to have lived in a time and a place near New York City where he was able to go and see such a wide variety of people, especially so many like him. They also talk about the progress that has happened over the last 50 years, and he finishes by giving some advice to others who may be going through a similar journey as his. This is a beautiful, informative and heartfelt interview that is so timely during Pride Month.

A Lifelong Journey of over coming cultural and ethnic diversity
Today’s episode is about taking a journey and knowing yourself. Kitty Wu, holistic health coach, joins Shelly for another inspiring and thoughtful episode. Kitty transitioned from being a fitness coach to broadening her efforts and becoming an holistic health coach, focusing on women of color. It goes into aspects of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and relational health, with a focus on self-awareness, and emotional self-regulation.
Kitty grew up with a background where worth and value were tied to achievements. This was often a heavy weight to carry and even took her into times of depression, health issues and weight fluctuations. As a child she was made fun of because of her race, and she only later realized how that affected her into her adult life. The feelings of being alone, different and not belonging. As she grew older, she had pressure from cultural expectations which made her feel like she had to be in high performance mode at all times. This came at the cost of ignoring the stress and anxiety that was always underlying. This experience gives her tremendous insight into coaching women who have had these feelings in their own life.
Kitty knew that for her life and mindset to change, she had to look inward. It took difficult inner work to begin a healing journey that will last a lifetime. She expresses the importance of Implementing daily meditation and visualization in order to slow down and spur self-awareness.
BIO:
Kitty Wu is a Holistic Health Coach based out of the DC metro area. She serves clientele from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds, with an emphasis in serving influential women of color. Kitty first started her coaching journey as an online fitness coach before making the transition to holistic health- once she realized she had an opportunity to create even deeper impact in people's lives. She now teaches clients how to integrate health into every aspect of life, to help them show up more powerfully & expand their impact. Outside of coaching, Kitty enjoys helping others, modeling, spending time outdoors, writing, and other creative pursuits.

We Are Just About Invincible
Today’s guest, Kreed Revere, was on the cusp of reaching some major milestones in her life, when it all came crashing down. Her partner abruptly left, and in the aftermath she lost her job, house, and emotional and mental wellbeing. She knew it was time for a fresh start. So, she moved to Washington State, and started to heal. She realized that it wasn’t just the loss of a relationship but grieving the loss of all the dreams and plans she held for so long.
In order to start the healing process, she began writing furiously, went to therapy and started exploring spirituality. This helped her to look at loss from a different perspective. Her move also gave her the power to be open to new things and expand her whole outlook. She realized that often staying in the same place geographically and socially can get you anchored into persistent, often unhealthy, and fear-based actions. She expresses that curiosity, self-awareness, and gratefulness are so crucial to living a life that you are in love with. But it often takes falling into dark and difficult times to really understand those terms fully and have a rebirth. When all is said and done, Kreed believes we are just about invincible.

Be Your Own CEO
Today Shelly welcomes a long-time friend to the show. Sarah Dumas, coach, consultant, and healer who helps people put away negativity and fear to achieve their dreams and get to the next level. Sarah had a tumultuous upbringing and knew from an early age she needed to keep things together and be the adult where many times there was none there for her. She began entrepreneurship very early on at age 5 and never looked back.
As she works with clients Sarah teaches that every entrepreneur needs to learn the lessons and strategies of the C-Suite in order to scale their business to larger success. She stresses the importance of your first two years being focused on money making activity and not getting lost in “employee” activities. She reveals that people who complain that they have no time, actually… do have the time. And more than anything it is about your energy. The energy to build your business, the energy to focus your time, the energy to scale, the energy to inspire those that work for you, the energy to know yourself and hold strong to your beliefs and not blame the outside world for your own limiting beliefs.

5 Minute moments with Shelly V - Go after what makes you happy
Hey fam. It's been a minute since I've done a five minute moment. So I wanted to hop on and just remind you that you are fabulous and you need to go after what makes you happy. So often, we're so worried about what everyone else is gonna think what everyone else is going to say what everyone else is going to do when everyone else ain't paying your bills, or living your life. Do whatever it is that brings you joy, brings you happiness, makes you smile.
Those are the things you should be focusing on. I know sometimes it's hard, life is gonna push back any chance that it can but you have to keep going. You have to keep trying, you have to keep pushing, even though let's say people aren't showing up, right? There's no one watching your lives. There's no one liking your posts. There's no one buying your stuff. There's no one supporting you. Well support yourself. Cheer on yourself, be your biggest cheerleader, because sometimes that's all you have until one day it's not. And if you keep fighting until that one day when it's not. That's when it becomes real and all of a sudden you're like wow, I've done it. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams, and just keep going out there and just keep trying. We try for all these different things like I'm gonna go for this job. Oh, I didn't get hired I'll go for this job. I didn't get hired. Right you keep trying. You don't just not look for a job if you need a job. Well, the same thing is gonna go for the things that you want to do in life. You can go for them or give up.
It's funny because when it comes to the things that we want to do, we give up so easily. Oh, it's not meant to be I'm not meant to do this. I just got to stick with what I know. I got to stick with what I'm already doing. Stick with the safe job. I hate that; one it's not safe. It never is because these big corporations will fire you in a heartbeat and replace you even quicker. Go after whatever it is that is driving you to live because honestly we only have today. The past already happened can't change it the future. I don't know. The only thing I could do right here right now today. Is something toward my happiness, something that's going to impact my future and maybe how tomorrow is gonna go and if I stay open, and I stay faithful, and I keep my eye on the prize, those things will happen. But you got to be patient because nothing happens overnight. Don't forget to be patient. Don't forget to give yourself grace. And don't forget to give yourself credit where credit is due. So often. We don't give ourselves the high fives, the pats on the back, the credit where it's due. Where were you three months ago? Where were you six months ago? What about a year ago? Were you anywhere near what you're doing now? Don't overlook those achievements. I love to jump up and just give myself a high five and it's corny and I don't do it often, but I do do it. But it feels good. And luckily I'm surrounded by people who remind me so if you don't have those people, here I am. You're doing amazing. Keep going. You have come so far. Do not give up now. And if no one else in your world is telling you that keep listening to this over and over and probably you should go find some new friends.

The belief in possibility
On this episode Shelly welcomes the inspiring Alana Mai Mitchell, Results Coach, Author, and Podcast Creator. She shares her story of struggling through schizophrenia, from the first behavior signs to diagnosis and beyond. She had multiple psychotic episodes, having her normal life crumble around her and fell deep into debt. Luckily, she sought help, did difficult personal work, met with doctors to get the right medications, and turned everything around. Now she’s thriving at a six-figure job in her chosen field, debt free, and living a fulfilled life.
She views the work she put in to conquer her mental illness as a gift, because she now inspires others to talk about their own issues with friends, family and are more confident seeking help. Going through so much before, she knows when challenges arise now, she has the confidence to conquer them. It took unconditional love and acceptance of herself, taking ownership of all of things that happened through her life, and emphasizing the importance of coaching.

5 Minute moments with Shelly V - Keep your eyes open, pivot and decide!
We all want to get somewhere in life. We all want different things but are you open to the opportunities that surround you? If your not open to the possibility and seeking abundance it wont come. Really lean into being open to all the possibilities available to you. If you do have a end goal in mind, GREAT! It's OKAY to pivot and change how you get to the end result, don't let a change in plan derail you! Just decide on what it is you want and decide that you will have it no matter what. Then decide to actually go for it! You've got this. Keep going. You are not alone!
5 Minute moments with Shelly V - You can't wait to be ready
There really is never a time that you will feel ready. Perfection doesn't exist. Stop wasting time waiting around to feel ready. Take the leap and learn while in the journey. Love yourself enough to love yourself, believe in yourself and take the chance.
5 Minute Moments with Shelly V - Do these 3 things
There is so much opportunity out there in the world that we miss out on. Either we don't believe it is available to us, we just don't believe it's there or we simply just aren't looking for it. We need to open our minds, hearts and eyes and start paying attention. Things will go wrong so stay flexible in your approach but keep your eyes set on the prize. Take the leap!
5 Minute moments with Shelly V - Why not grow?
I love watching other people become successful and hearing their stories, what an inspiration. Kevin Hart is one of those people. To live a life not going after what you truly believe is right and what is true to you is to not live at all. Follow your dreams, Keep trying, Learn and grow and go after what it is you want in life.
5 Minute Moments with Shelly V - Where your going your growing
Where I am going is where I'm growing... Where are you growing? Where in your life are you taking action? Only in those moments on taking action can we truly grow and become who we are meant to be. You don't have to be perfect or happy in every moment, no one is. Keep going and keep pushing so you can continue to grow in your journey no matter what that journey way be.
