Anxiety and My Mental Health

Anxiety and My Mental Health

October 10th was World Mental Health day. Usually, I wouldn't even think about this day and it would go by without a thought. But that is not true as of this year. I've had debilitating anxiety that has manifest for me this year and it is very difficult to manage as a mom during a pandemic. Many would consider it was because I became a mom in a pandemic but either way, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm talking about my journey with anxiety and panic attacks and how I've navigated my mental health since January.

Shame and Our Bodies

Shame and Our Bodies

We feel shame as a normal human emotion but sometimes shame begins to have its own voice in our head and we start to believe its negative narrative. This can create low self-esteem, a lack of vulnerability, and we can make decisions about the negative feelings we have. I talk about how we get to this place and my top tips for how to get out of it and love the body you are in. I think that in the health industry we don't always push body positivity, but we need to help people love their bodies before any change can happen.

My Hard Truth About Becoming a Mom

My Hard Truth About Becoming a Mom

I have shared our journey with adoption, but I've never shared why or how we got to the choice of adoption and what the process was really like. I open the flood gates of information about my life for the last six years. I'm vulnerable about IUI, IVF, trauma, PTSD, international adoption, and foster care adoption. I get real about the pain of trying to have a family and not being successful.

I was struggling one day and sat down and wrote my story as a cathartic process. I thought maybe sharing my story will give insight to those thinking about starting a family, assuming having a family is easy, or aren't aware of the struggles of having a family.

S2Ep20 Shame and Food

S2Ep20 Shame and Food

I have been hearing talk about shame recently with regard to black lives matter, politics, and our choices. This really got me to thinking about nutritional shame. We shame ourselves for breaking from our diet for one meal. We shame ourselves for having that one cup of ice cream. We shame ourselves for having a basket of french fries. How do we stop that little voice in our head from dismantling our very beings because of what we ate? How do we get to a place where food doesn't cause shame?
