Report: Out-of-school suspensions, expulsions are on the rise in Ohio schools
Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio’s “2024 State of School Discipline in Ohio” report shows the use of exclusionary school disciplinary measures, like out-of-school suspensions and expulsions, continues to rise in the state. Such practices have been identified as factors contributing to Ohio’s community-to-prison pipeline that puts far too many children and young people on a pathway to incarceration.
The report, which was released today, also revealed exclusionary discipline practices are used disproportionately for youth who are Black, Indigenous, Latinx, disabled and economically disadvantaged.
