Embodiment & Self-Mastery
On this week's episode, we discuss the concepts of embodiment and self-mastery. Two words that seem to have been added to a long list of popular spiritual vocabulary. We demystify them as the discussion delves into definitions and how to feel these as a physical process. We had a fun discussion full of our own stories with our ever evolving processes. Author Sara Lunsford
This week on the podcast, Kellie had the pleasure of interviewing long-time author friend - Sara Lunsford. They met at the RT Convention many moons ago, when Kellie was new in the publishing industry. Sara has been an inspiration as she shares her life & writing journey on social media, and keeps it real on the daily. Sara is co-host of The Cliterati: The Podcast with a Vagenda. A hilarious show that covers topics you didn't know you needed to hear covered: sex, dating, masturbating, women's issues, feminism, peens and vageens. Sara's Bio: Fairytales aren't the absence of struggle, they're about persevering through the darkest night. They're about hope. Hell yeah, I write fairytales. I wrote my first story after watching The Exorcist at my 8th birthday party. I tried to write my first romance after watching Howling VI: The Freaks. Because come on, a werewolf in love with a preacher's daughter, taken captive by an evil vampire and love conquering all? Sign me up! If that sounds like your OTP, then this is the start of something beautiful! Crossing the Void
This week, Kelly and Kellie once again went on a short road trip and discussed further Kellie's transition as she crosses the "void" - an energetic place where the old is not yet replaced by the new. In a candid discussion, Kellie describes how her ego wants to fill the space with the old way, but she cannot and how it feels disconcerting. They use analogies and talk about how important it is to stay grounded during this time, and why it's important to take care of the physical body to prepare for these transitions.

Transitions & Transformations
In this episode, Kelly & Kellie recorded on the car ride home from a few hours of R&R at a local beach. They discussed life transitions, giving yourself grace, and how to feel in your body when you're in your heart or your ego. Kellie is candid about her catapulted journey into motherhood when her first child was born prematurely, how her world changed overnight 24 years ago, and how she is consciously transitioning into a new phase of life right now. They talk about how we use fear as a motivator, believing we are creating out of love when we are still in our ego. Another jam-packed episode you won't want to miss!

Assumptions and Expectations
In this episode, we talk about how assumptions and expectations set us up for conflict not only within ourselves, but with those around us. We talk about how we personally learned to communicate better with each other to avoid this pitfall, and we reflect on past times when we or others around us made an assumption with an expectation attached that created an issue. We also leave our listeners with some food for thought so let us know what you think!

Interview with Author Hannah Byron
This week, I sat down with author Hannah Byron to discuss her newest book - The Norwegian Assassin - the fourth book in the Resistance Girls series. We discuss the untold stories of women in the wars and how Hannah overcame tragic circumstances in her life and found her writing voice again. I absolutely loved this interview and enjoyed chatting with her. I can't wait to have her on the show again! “Ever since I could hold a pen, I’ve written stories and poems, and I’ll write till my dying day.” Hannah Byron is the pen name of Hannah Ferguson. Born in Paris (France) in 1956, Hannah is of British/Irish/Dutch descent. She lives in The Netherlands. Byron became a published author in 2012 and published seven books under her own name. After a forced break from writing because of family issues, she made her comeback in the fall of 2020 as a Historical Fiction author, focusing on the World Wars. What started out as a general interest in the biggest war humanity ever endured became a passion and a drive. Byron herself is an indirect consequence of D-Day. Her uncle Tom landed on the beaches of Normandy and helped to liberate Holland. In 1949, her British mother traveled to south-west Holland, where she met Byron’s Dutch father. Studying WW 2 documents and listening to stories of (children) of active participants in the war, Byron made it her fictional duty to give a voice to those heroes and heroines who stood up against Nazism. After the war, these ‘ordinary people’ resumed their lives and never spoke of their heroic acts. Let future generations hear their stories and understand the devastating impact of war. Resistance women are at the core of Byron’s books. She pays tribute to a generation of women who kindled the women’s lib movement, got dirty in overalls, flew planes, and did intelligence work. Today’s strong women stand on the shoulders of their (great-)grandmothers. Byron’s heroines fight for freedom, equality and… love. The Resistance Girl Series comprises one book on WWI In Picardy’s Fields, and – so far - six books on WWII: The Diamond Courier (2020), The Parisian Spy (2021), The Norwegian Assassin (2022), The Highland Raven (27 Sept 2022), The London Agent (winter 2023) and The Crystal Butterfly (Summer 2023). Discipline vs. Control
Full episode! We discuss the difference between being disciplined and control. We often suppress emotions or project at people as a means of control, rather than disciplining ourselves to observe the thoughts generated by our mind. We are often conditioned to give up our power to authority. We give up authority to the thoughts that run through our head because our ego minds need to give power away to something. This realization is a game changer! Being disciplined means we can take action to take our power back from the thoughts and stories in our heads. What power do you give up to others or to yourself? What stories do you tell yourself to feel in control? Join us for this jam-packed episode! We discuss a lot and would love to hear from you.

Discipline vs. Control
Enjoy this half episode trailer where we discuss the differences between discipline and control. In an effort not to be considered "controlling" we often do not discipline ourselves to stop our mind and allow it to run away with our thoughts. As we've mentioned before, being able to pause and reflect, rather than allow our triggers to pull us into reaction, is one of the key ways we can discipline ourselves and learn to stop the mind. It's an ongoing process. Sharing our experiences and insights. Full episode available soon! Happy New Year!

Our Choice
An addition to my last podcast and an intro to a new one that Kelly and I will do together which was sparked by a conversation I had with a friend regarding suffering and whether or not it is a choice. I feel we have the power to choose and it takes a lot of digging into our darkest corners to be able to hold that space for ourselves. Sharing my thoughts and I'd love to hear yours too!

Kellie's Shorts - Holding On and Letting Go
There were so many titles I could have chosen for this episode of Kellie's Shorts, I had a hard time choosing! As I moved through some physical pain that brought on emotional releasing, I wanted to talk about how we can become aware of when we are holding onto pain and how to let go. It's a process and no two people do it alike. People can validate our pain as easily as parking, but do we want to stay there? I've learned to ask myself - how long do I want to be hurt? When you ask that question, it can be a game changer. Thanks for tuning in!

Active Participation
We sat down for an impromptu podcast since we were all sitting around discussing things we were processing anyway. Our conversation centres around actively participating in what we are creating in our life, and how we are creating it with the thoughts we think and taking note of what our mind is doing. Alyssa joins us for the bulk of the episode, but we have others cooking and such in the background. Such is life when we decide to do an episode on the fly!

Kellie's Shorts - Saying YES to Yourself
Another of my short episodes where I reminisce on the times in my life where I've often said yes to other people for a variety of reasons - to keep the peace, to be liked and accepted, to not make anyone upset - and the list goes on! It's a topic I know a lot of people can relate to. Saying yes to yourself means you can feel out what is best for you and not miss out on the opportunities you are able to provide for yourself. If you've experienced something like this, share with us.

Family Communication - Conscious Communication Part 2
This week, we sat down with Kellie's children and talked about the process of becoming better communicators, working through ego triggers, and what it meant to learn to hear ourselves. Hearing ourselves, meant we could be better listeners to those who came into our lives. As we continue to consciously work through things as a family we've had to learn what direct communication means, how not to take it personally, and address our own inner issues. This is a jam-packed episode with lots of laughs! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Kellie's Shorts - Enlightenment as Gaining Wisdom
The first in a new mini-series for our podcast - Kellie's Shorts! No, not talking about my pants, but a play on words since the podcasts are short and I'm under five feet tall. Today, I talk a bit about how misunderstood enlightenment is, and rather how we should consider it as gaining wisdom every time we challenge ourselves to see things in a new way. There is a short meditation you can listen to over and again. Thanks for joining me. Subscribe and let us know how you enjoy the episodes!

Spiritual Bypassing & How to Spot it in Yourself
Spiritual bypassing describes a tendency to use spiritual explanations to avoid complex psychological issues. In this episode, we cite our source for the definition, as well as how unhealthy this can be. We give personal examples of how we overcame bypassing in our own healing, and provide  ways to clue in to when you might be using this practice unknowingly. We discuss how avoiding feelings, believing traumatic events must have a "silver lining", believing spiritual practices are always positive, and focusing only on spiritual practices and ignoring the present - to name a few - can be detrimental to being in touch with one's self. It's a jam-packed episode with a lively discussion and you won't want to miss it! **Trigger Warning: Kellie discusses (not in graphic detail) her sexual assault, and the steps she took toward healing. We respect that this is a sensitive topic, and that everyone's journey to healing from such trauma is different. She shares her experience only in the hopes that speaking out may help someone else break their own silence.

In Conversation with Michelle GB
We discuss health, wellness, fitness, and a whole lot more with Michelle GB! Michelle was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada)  and was physically active her entire life, competing in gymnastics, playing soccer, performing in dance, and then competing in Miss Fitness right out of high school.  Due to some digestion issues, she became fascinated with the nutrition world and studied at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. The course taught her a holistic approach, where she learned about the Chakras and how nutrition is not just about food, but about the connection with a person’s spiritual health. Her mother, a Reiki Master, gave her Reiki I in 1996 and since then, she has done a lot of work on her spirituality, clearing and balancing Chakras (energies of the body), and learning different breathing techniques that train your body and mind to be calm (which leads to meditation). She has obtained her Reiki I, II and III and is working as a Reiki Master providing energy healing for those ready to make a shift. www.michellegb.com

Understanding Your Why
Understanding your why has become a sort of catch phrase in the past few years. However, understanding why you do something (or don't) is important. We can get caught up in "how" we need to do something or an end goal. The ego trap of the mind can swing us from desire to despair when things do not turn out the way we thought they would. Being open to events or circumstances working in our favor without looking like we thought they would is key. Remembering why we embarked on a journey helps us to determine when our ego is leading and how to catch what our mind is doing. Then we can stop it and redirect ourselves.

The Loops of Our Stories
At certain times in our lives, we may tell ourselves a story and that story becomes a belief. As we journey throughout out lives, we may not be aware of how this story builds a narrative of false beliefs about ourselves. When we begin to feel the origin of a story and what it is attached to, we can unravel false beliefs about ourselves. When we are willing to hear what we say to ourselves, we are able to challenge our own beliefs, and create a life we truly desire.

Interview with Author Barbara Kellyn
We had a blast interviewing Barbara together! We talk romance in fiction and real life, and share some of the struggles we've all been through and how we coped. We hope to have her back on the show some day! Enjoy! Barbara Kellyn writes the kind of stories that she loves to read: romantic comedies fraught with amusing complications and taut sexual tension between a likeable heroine worth rooting for and an alluring hero worth the trouble of falling for. A lifelong storyteller in one form or another, Barb juggles a day job in marketing with her fantasy career as an author. She recently came back from an eight-year hiatus to publish three romance novels and is now working on a fourth, with several other ideas in the pipeline. Barb lives in Winnipeg and is happily married to her leading man. She thanks her lucky stars that they have the kind of blissful existence that her fictional characters can only dream about reaching before the last page. www.BarbaraKellyn.com Instagram: @barbarakellynauthor

Context and Perspective in Movement & Life
Understanding the context of information that is provided to you helps you see a bigger perspective. When it comes to movement and exercise, we often may not understand the history behind a set of movements which will provide us with a context as to the health benefits we may receive from training in a specific discipline. This in turn, allows us to be able to listen to our body, and "hear" the tension we may carry or where we may need to focus on to heal a particular part of ourselves, and make us stronger in general. This also applies to life where we may make assumptions about people, situations, or circumstances when we do not understand the context from which someone may be operating from. Learning to listen to our body, and to observe where our mind goes - be it a space of judgment or a story we have told ourselves over and over - requires discipline and a willingness to understand that our minds try to sabotage us in relationships and situations, especially when we are building new connections to ourselves inside. When we become conscious of that, we can listen more open heartedly to others. We learn not to judge ourselves harshly which in turn ripples out into the world because we become less judgmental of others on their own path. Taking the time to understand the context of something is the key to good communication not only with others, but with ourselves.

Fermented Teas & TCM with James Screeton
This week we sat down with James Screeton from the UK and talk fermented teas and traditional Chinese medicine. James is an acupuncturist as well as aTai Chi and meditation instructor. After college, he worked as a fitness coach for men's and women's artistic gymnastics, and found an interest in the rehab of injuries for athletes. His holistic approach was born out of his rehabilitation from using acupuncture to heal from an injury which was recommended by his Kung Fu instructor at the time. He studied daoist medicine in Wudang, and afterward began his degree in acupuncture. He experiments with fermented teas in his spare time, and enjoys thinking outside the box to solve various life challenges. With his natural flare for understanding Chinese medicine, he takes each individual case and works with individuals to help them with their physical challenges.

Stepping into Observation of the Mind
In this episode we talk about observation and self awareness. Learning to step into a place where we can observe our thoughts and emotions rather than react from them can be a challenge but a discipline worth practicing every day.  A lot has been said about needing to be self aware. However, in general what is thought of as self awareness are our habits of mental analysis and story telling we use to define who we are and who we are based on other people and the stories we choose to believe in. Stories and storylines are how people operate before they understand that they can step back into observation and look at the entire narrative and identify the origins of the stories and why they happened in the first place. The ego is a symptom of the habit of mental analysis. When a person discovers how to identify and detach from ego stories and look at the patterns of the ego, in observation and without attachment, they will have finally stepped into their own path of self discovery.

Being Present is a Physical Application of Feeling
In this episode, Kelly discusses how being present is much less a thought process and much more about the physical reality of being able to feel how strong our bodies actually are and if we have the courage to look inward to emotional spaces we can feel with our physical bodies. A lot of conversations these days revolve around the concept of being present. Most conversations and books share concepts and information about becoming aware of the ego. Being aware of the ego is essential, but it is only part of the process. Learning to be present involves learning to feel and understand how to feel the physical body and everything it feels, and why and how and what happens when you do feel. The mind and its mental awareness only plays a small part in this. The mind and our awareness of ourselves is only really possible when we allow ourselves to feel and physically process our emotions and the information we feel in our body.

The Balance of Nature Within
This week Kelly talks about nature and how it mirrors our world inside.  There is a lot of wisdom in nature. Nature reflects back at us what is inside us and what we need to reconnect with. Nature is in balance and we always have it as a point of reference for feeling how to feel that same space of balance within us. It is always about what is inside of us and not what is going on around us in the outside world. Nature is always perfectly balanced - even if our egos cannot see it or feel it.  Wisdom is about feeling. This is why being in nature is important to understand. Through feeling the balance in nature we can relearn how to feel that same space inside of ourselves.

Learning to Hear Inner Wisdom
In this episode we talk about how to hear our wisdom and understand the difference between mental analysis and feeling our wisdom with our physical bodies. Learning to hear your inner wisdom can be tricky. Differentiating between the voice of the heart and that of the ego is a skill to learn like any other. Listening is a skill essential to understanding how to hear and feel our own inner voice. We often get caught in mental analysis of information until we learn to feel our minds and stop the pattern of mental analysis of what we are doing and why. Having a physical discipline to pull ourselves out or heads is important to be able to build our own personal language and context for feeling and connecting with our hearts and how we communicate with ourselves through our bodies.

Emptiness vs. Stillness
In this episode, we discuss the concepts of Emptiness vs. Stillness.  A lot of spiritual concepts of awakening revolve around the idea that you have to empty the mind to experience a spiritual awakening. This is an illusion and not how it works. Spiritual awakening happens all the time, our egos trick us into believing we have to achieve perfect emptiness to be able to say we have achieved anything at all. This is the deeper illusion. Stillness is the real key, and the one the ego does its best to hide from us so that we stay stuck in our patterns of false emotional joy and activity. Stillness is much different than emptiness and operates as a space of active participation and observation of the mind, the heart and the body all at the same time. Stillness is about true alignment with our heart and our capacity to observe and teach ourselves how to live in a constant space of awareness of self. Stillness is about transforming attachment to the process into a quiet space of letting go and allowing the process to be whatever it needs to be.  The mind, the heart, the soul are never empty and cannot ever be empty for the same reason that energy can never be destroyed, it just changes. When we learn to strop our minds is when we awaken to stillness. Stopping the mind does not mean ending the mind's activity, it means ending the attachment to the mental patterns that try and tell us who we are.

The Importance of Contrasts
In this episode, Kelly discusses the importance of contrasts in our lives. Mastery of our minds, our thoughts, feelings is essential for building our capacity to be mindful, compassionate and loving. Understanding contrasts within our mind and our ability to feel contrasts of stepping in and out of judgement, loving kindness and how we register those contrasts is a key to being able to be emotionally responsible and present. Communicating with our Selves is the foundation of being self aware. Being present is all about communication.
