Ep. 31 - Steve Dally - Hopper Fishing for Big Brown Trout on the White River

Kyle and Kyle sit on the banks of the White River with Steve Dally of Dally's Ozark Fly Fisher to talk about all things hopper fishing aka. "throwing foam". Steve takes it beyond the basics and breaks down in detail the 5 ways to make you more effective while hopper fishing. Then after recording, we put away the mics and jumped in the boat with Steve at the helm to put these tips to use. We can personally attest if you do everything he says you will be more efficient, have more fun, and put more big brown trout on the end of your line. Peep the instagram if you don't believe it.

The 5 tips.

  1. Your stance is your key.
  2. Keep everything in front of you and pick up to recast often.
  3. Strip in before you cast to make the best possible cast you can.
  4. Mend half the line as soon as your fly hits the water.
  5. Waaaaaaaaiiiiiit.

Big thanks to Gary and Abe of Rim Shoals Resort for allowing us to film, record, and stay on their property during our trip.

On the banks of Crooked Creek, Tadd holds back no secrets as the guys discuss everything ranging from the smallmouth's struggle to survive, to their symbolism and importance in the Ozarks, to every which way to get 'em on the line throughout the spring and dry summer. Tadd is also the son-in-law of Duane Hada (Ep. 17) and has picked up more than a couple of cunning ways to catch fish from the Hada family. We got to head out on Crooked Creek with him immediately following the episode and we would HIGHLY encourage you to connect with him if you wanna catch some smallmouth. He's a pro!

Ep. 27 - 4th of July and a Look Back on Christy Graham (AGFC Trout Program Supervisor)

Ep. 27 - 4th of July and a Look Back on Christy Graham (AGFC Trout Program Supervisor)

We decided to spend a little more time this week enjoying the company of family and friends as we celebrated the 4th of July and reflected on the many sacrifices made for our freedom. In lieu of that, we are taking a look back on Ep. 10 featuring Christy Graham of Arkansas Game & Fish. This is one of our favorite episodes!

We discussed:

  • where AR Game and Fish got the tiger trout and golden rainbow trout they stocked in the White River
  • why the tiger trout is the ideal sport fish to supplement the brook trout population which struggles to survive in AR waters
  • the biggest brown trout she's ever seen while electroshocking for research
  • how research informs their trout management plan for the state of Arkansas while also balancing the public interest

We will be back with NEW content next week. Happy 4th!
