Episode #153 - Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good - Regymen & The Covery
Episode #153 - Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good - Regymen & The Covery
Being let go from 12 different sales positions might have discouraged the average person, but Edward Keith “EK” Navan used this time to help pursue his true passion - creating businesses. EK is a consummate entrepreneur who adopts a beginner’s mindset and always asks, “Why?” After opening the Regymen in 2016 with the hope of simply getting people up and moving, EK came to the realization that health starts from the inside out and decided to open up The Covery, a wellness spa focused on getting more quality out of life. EK created The Covery to help people — whether it be athletes, single moms, or retired grandparents — better recover from life’s hurdles. His two businesses focus on all things health, and more so the idea that when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good. In this episode, you can catch EK talking about what it means to adopt a beginner’s mindset, three important lessons he’s learned throughout the years, and his thoughts on entrepreneurship. Thanks again to our sponsors this week and to all of you who make this possible. If you haven’t already, we would love for you to take the time to rate/review the show wherever you listen/watch us. Episode #152 - Home Sweet Holmes - Holmes Building Materials
Episode #152 - Home Sweet Holmes - Holmes Building Materials
Founded in 1957 as a brick and salvage company, Holmes Building Materials is now a 4th generation building materials company in Baton Rouge and Denham Springs. After taking his Dad’s advice of having work experience outside of the family biz, Matthew ended up in Shreveport; however, after a few years, he eventually found his way back to the homefront in 2011. Going from a brickyard company, where men used to clean and polish brick in order to resell them, to a company with two storefronts and a recent showroom opening in Metairie, Holmes Building Materials has undoubtedly come a long way. However, with the interjection of Covid, Matthew and his team had to tackle a whole new beast which included a lot of transporting materials and communicating with manufacturers. This inevitably begs the further question - What is the new normal? In this episode, Matthew discusses the history of the business, supply chain issues, and how his father has positively impacted him throughout the years. Thank you to everyone for making our first show of the year a success! We’re so excited to be back for 2023 and want to offer our sincere thanks for sticking around, enjoying our content, and sharing with your friends. This show is possible because of all of you. Episode #151 - Gone Fishin’ - LA Custom Kayaks
Episode #151 - Gone Fishin’ - LA Custom Kayaks
What does the Fourth of July and Covid have in common? It’s the perfect time to launch a business! At least, that’s what the Founder of LA Custom Kayaks, Brock Miller, did. In the summer before his junior year at LSU, Brock launched a business fueled by his passion for being outdoors and, more specifically, on the water. With the rise of the popular social media app Tik Tok, Brock started posting exciting videos of his big catches. After joining a few fishing and kayak Facebook pages, Brock offered his kayak modifying services to fellow fishermen and anyone in the group who was interested. After customizing a few customers’ kayaks in his parent’s backyard, Brock decided to expand his business and open up a storefront. Although, being a full-time student and business owner had its challenges. Nonetheless, Brock graduated from LSU with a Digital Advertising degree and hit the ground running. Selling everything from merchandising and customized marine mats to gear and accessories, Brock wanted to produce products that he would use himself and that would help every level of fisherman and kayak connoisseur. In this episode, Brock discusses his early love for fishing and the outdoors, the advancement and pros that come with the world of social media, and even a scary story his mom can’t stand that he tells—sorry, mom! Thanks again for an amazing 2022! We’re excited to be back and have so many fun episodes coming your way this year so make sure to stick around for those. If you haven’t already, we would be more than grateful if you took the time to rate/review the show wherever you listen/watch us. Episode #150 - Lighting Up The City - Truly Haute
Get your candles and books ready as we close out 2022 with a flame. This week we are joined by the owners of Truly Haute, Lauren & Rachel. Two ladies on fire for their business and doing everything they can to take it to the next level year over year. After wanting to do something different in their lives, Lauren & Rachel started working at Truly Haute back some 10 years ago. At the time it was just a hobby of a job for the both of them with nothing really being all consuming at work. When the owners decided it was growing too quickly and they weren't ready to take the leap to become full time entrepreneurs, Rachel texted Lauren one weekend and suggested they should purchase the company and make it their own. With COVID being a pivotal year for them, they have both taken the leap off the diving board and are working within their business full time as stellar entrepreneurs. Big thank you to each and every one of you for an amazing 2022. We are taking the next two weeks off and coming back better than ever for what is shaping up to be an incredible 2023! We hope you enjoy this week's episode as much as we did. Episode #149 - Your Branding Can Be Everywhere - Letterman's
Episode #149 - Your Branding Can Be Everywhere - Letterman's
It can be tough for any family business to be passed down from one generation to the next. For Letterman's they've been around since the 1940s and still continuing to grow and flourish. This week on The Patty-G Show, we had the pleasure of sitting down with a good friend of ours, Steven Perret. He is the owner of Letterman's, a family owned reprographics company that can handle any project your company may have no matter the size. With familiar graphics all across Louisiana, it is quite likely that Letterman's was the company that printed and installed those graphics. Steven came into the equation of the family business roughly 20+ years ago and has been around ever since. Taking the company through a few changes over the years and adding products where he saw fit, they are now able to service a wide variety of clients with an ever growing demand. Not only does Steven work within his business, he also has a side gig of being a consultant for businesses and a professor at LSU teaching entrepreneurship. There is so much more to unpack in this episode, we hope you enjoy! Thank you for your support over the years, as we get closer to wrapping up 2022 we can't believe how much we've grown and how far we've come. That is all due to each of you continuing to come back to the show each week to show your support for local businesses and what they are doing right here in Baton Rouge! Episode #148 - All About The Atmosphere - BLDG5
Episode #148 - All About The Atmosphere - BLDG5
Typically whenever you go out to eat at a restaurant you are given a single plate for your meal and if there are sharable dishes everyone will have their own smaller plate to pass around. For Misti and Brumby Broussard, they wanted to mix that up a bit. With a California background via the movie industry and then the high end furniture business, they have been around a few different restaurants. From culinary school to movie filming, Brumby always had an itch to become a chef. So much so in fact that once he and Misti opened their high end furniture store in San Diego, Brumby built a fully operating kitchen right in the store for presentations and party hosting. With their passion to move closer to family, they packed their bags and moved down to Baton Rouge, LA with the passion to open a restaurant. After searching for locations for a few years, Brumby finally told Misti about a place off Perkins Road that eventually became the home to their concept BLDG5. With the idea that people should share their food with boards, the vision was brought to life. Thank you all for the continued support of the show. As we discuss in this episode, please feel free to share your thoughts with us about what makes Baton Rouge great, or how you think it can be improved. Our mission is to promote Baton Rouge and turn it into the great city we know it can be, we all can get it done, together.  Sponsors: Falaya Real Estate, Horizon Financial Group, Mercedes-Benz of Baton Rouge, Gov't Taco, Lake Men's Health Center & Currency Bank Patty-G Wardrobe: McLavy's LTD Vodcast Website: https://thepattygshow.com/ BLDG5 Website: https://bldg5.com/

Episode #147: Bringing People Together For A Cause - Sequitur Consulting
Whenever you need something taken care of, often times you like to do it yourself. However, there are certain tasks that we just cannot do on our own. It requires the help of external parties whether that may be employees or even outside consultants. This week we are chatting with Beverly Haydel, founder of Sequitur Consulting. With a career that has brought her all over the country, she now focuses on doing what she loves, connecting people. Through connecting people she is able to provide value to businesses and public legislators through conversations around problem solving and coming to an agreement. Making the decision to move to Baton Rouge was one she did not take lightly, however, it has been the right call from the get go. Being involved in the community is extremely important for Beverly, from sitting on boards for companies such as Currency Bank to volunteering to help organizations in her spare time.  Thank you for your continued support of the show, we greatly appreciate each and every one of you that follow us along! Episode #146: Playing in the Museum - BR.Cade
Have you ever walked into a room and were just taken back in time to a place that you knew before. That is a similar feeling to what you can expect to experience when you walk into BR.Cade. They have taken what some might define as historic pieces of gaming devices and turned them into a business. What started out as a hoppy for Casey of collecting arcade games has turned into a flourishing business right on Government Street. With their play for free model, patrons are able to come enjoy drinks and play their favorite childhood games, or for the younger folks, become introduced to games that predate their existence. Putting together a team of entrepreneurs is what led to the success of getting this business off the ground. By having similar interests and almost equally in size collections, BR.Cade became a no brainer. From specialty cocktails to uniquely crafted mini tables to hold your drinks while you play, they've thought of everything! Thank you for your continuous support of The Patty-G Show, it is because of all of you that we are able to bring on amazing entrepreneurs in our town and showcase them to the world! Episode #145: Building Something Bigger Than Yourself - Daryl Cohen
Episode #145: Building Something Bigger Than Yourself - Daryl Cohen
Giving back to the community should be important for us all. Taking lessons we've learned from other places should give us a new insight into how things can operate. For our guest this week, Daryl Cohen, all of these play a significant role in how he owns and operates his businesses. Originating in the basketball scene, Daryl is quite the athlete. Taking his skills across the pond to go play on the other side of the globe, he was introduced to a new way of how people can operate as a culture. With the busy life of an athlete, one of the businesses he enjoyed having access to was an in home barber. Moving back to the states he wanted to make a change of pace and business. Opening his own pre-owned dealership, Legendary Import Group was created. With the mentality of letting customers hand select their own vehicle and pick everything down to the trim options, Daryl is providing a unique buying experience in the pre-owned market. Still wanting to bring more value to the community, he decided to open his own barber shop, Legendary Cuts. With a unique approach to hair cuts, Legendary Cuts allows the customer to get their hair cut around their schedule. With appointments starting around 5:30 AM, you can get your cut quick and get out fast. With a desire to go back to his roots, Daryl decided to take a leap back into the sporting world and started his own youth basketball team, Red Claws Basketball. While some may be overwhelmed by the number of businesses Daryl has under his belt, he has an amazing support system that helps him manage it all one day at a time.  Thank you for the continued support of the show. Episode #144 - Take Some Time For Yourself - The Relaxation Company
Every now and again we find ourselves in need of some time off. Whether we do that in the form of a long walk or relaxing at our home in the evening with family. However, there might be sometimes in which we need more than that. This is where our guest for the week comes into play. The Relaxation Company is a COVID built business that has seen continued success week over week, day over day. Initially having 20 years' experience in the field, Jennifer was inspired by her husband Kirk and daughter Abby to take her dreams to the next level and open her own shop. After watching a specific property around Pelican Point for a while, Jennifer received the text that the property had become available and she jumped on it! Making an investment in themselves, Kirk and Jennifer used some retirement funds to build a business Jennifer had always dreamed of. Today, working with family each and every day, Jennifer, Kirk and Abby are constantly doing what they can to improve the family business and take their company to the next level. Thank you for your continued support of The Patty-G Show and everything y'all do to make it what it has become today. Episode #143 - Finding Your Stride - Niraj Vora
Episode #143 - Finding Your Stride - Niraj Vora
This week we are stepping in stride with Niraj Vora, Co-Founder of The Stride Shop. The Stride Shop is a local physical therapy clinic focused around runners and tailoring to their specific needs. What brings a certain level of uniqueness to The Stride Shop is the fact that they are out of network. This means they may have a little higher price tag, but they focus on that next level concierge service and spend as much time with the patient as needed. What this allows is for them to get down to the root of the issue rather than simply having you work through some exercises and moving on to the next patient. Viraj and RT have focused from the beginning on making this practice unique and focused on a specific set of people, runners. Originally founded in New Orleans, they have added another practice right here in Baton Rouge. Niraj discussed the importance of getting down to the root of the issue rather than simply treating the patient for a surface level injury. Additionally, we discussed the struggles that solopreneurs experience each and every day, ultimately, when is the right time to make the first hire? Thank you for your continued support of the show, it is through you the viewers that we are able to bring amazing episodes each and every week. Episode #142 - Filming Your Imagination - Glenn Withrow & Hallie Todd
This week on The Patty-G Show, we had the honor of sitting down with Glenn Withrow and Hallie Todd. Two Louisiana transplants that made the shift from Southern California way of life to be a part of the Baton Rouge community. Working in the film industry as both actor/actress Glen and Hallie were always looking as they traveled to film at possible locations to call home. While filming in Baton Rouge, they fell in love with the area. Taking their production company, In House Media Film Partners, from a California based enterprise to now Baton Rouge located was something they have done and never looked back. Hallie made her entrance into the entertainment industry that way of any entrepreneur growing up in the family business. Her parents were actors and she felt the calling. Glenn was the first to pave his path into the acting world in his family and has charted his course to become a well accomplished actor and, ultimately, a writer, producer and director. Building a family business of their own, Glenn and Hallie work together on writing scripts and producing the projects with Glenn directing. Their latest project, The Last Champion, featuring Cole Hauser ("Rip" of Yellowstone), has been a great success and put them on a trajectory for bringing even more of the entertainment industry to the little big town of Baton Rouge, LA. Episode #141 - The Underdog Mentality - Brandon Landry
Episode #141 - The Underdog Mentality - Brandon Landry
This week we sat down with the walk on himself, Brandon Landry. Founder of Walk On's Sport's Bistreaux, quickly closing in on 70+ locations across the US, Brandon has built a household name for his brand through serving good food in a family friendly atmosphere. Starting the concept for the restaurant on a back of a napkin with his co-founder, they still hold true to the founding principals of making sure everyone is a part of the team and are welcome. Persistence is a term used most when people are told no to their face time and time again, for Brandon, it was 6 times before a bank would back their idea. After-all, their idea did get a C at LSU in the business plan course he was taking at the time. Being determined to continuously work and build the brand, he quickly realized they didn't know what they didn't know when it came to running a restaurant. After trial and error, they were able to seal the deal by winning best sports bar from ESPN. This was used as a spring board to take them to the next level and begin securing franchisee deals to expand their operations and bring a taste of the south across the country! Not only did we discuss Walk On's, but for those around the Baton Rouge area, we also touched on Brandon's new fine dining establishment, Supper Club of BR.   Thank you everyone for the continued support of the show, it means the world that each and every one of you take the time to listen. Episode #138: Documenting History - John Williams
Being an entrepreneur some would say starts from a young age. For John Williams of JCW Creative, that started for him at the age of 13. With the desire to purchase his first video camera that cost $600, he knew he had to earn enough money to purchase it himself. Taking to the streets with a lawn mower and weed-eater, he quickly realized the importance of recurring revenue for making his venture successful. After learning the hard lesson of sales tax and taking out his first loan from his parents to purchase the camera, he was off to the races. Filming basketball games became his passion, but selling film to the parents fueled his business from an economic standpoint. Fast forward through his middle and high school years, John received a full ride scholarship to be a part of the media team for LSU. Getting to see first hand what the players would go through, how the coaches would handle situations was life changing. More importantly, the connections built while working there led him to start his full business while still attending and working for LSU. Episode #136: A Walk in the Parks - Corey Wilson
When it comes to making Baton Rouge a walkable city, you need places to walk to. This week we sat down with Corey Wilson, the superintendent of BREC. BREC is the agency that is focused on connecting people to nature and parks here in East Baton Rouge Parish. Corey has been with BREC for 10 years and is doing what he can to continue to develop projects for everyone in our community to enjoy. His path began in New Orleans with the desire to have a better life. Attending college in Atlanta, GA and graduating top of his class in accounting put him in a position to land an amazing job, which was later leveraged to attend Harvard Law School. Upon graduation, he landed a job in corporate law, but later realized his passion lied elsewhere. Taking the leap to move back to Louisiana, Corey started his own law firm with a couple friends and off they went building it into a success. With their success came lots of travel and as life would have it, became too much. Corey then applied for a new position with BREC, in house counsel. After many years putting in hard work and effort, he positioned himself to take on the role of superintendent upon it becoming available. And the rest is history! Episode #135: Owning the Look - McLavy's LTD
Being in business for over 40 years is a major accomplishment for any brand. Being in business at the same store front within the same city and continuously growing is what makes McLavy's LTD a special place here in Baton Rouge. Frank McLavy began his journey in the clothing business after serving our country as a marine. Episode #134 - Closing The Loop - Fran Trautmann
Episode #134 - Closing The Loop - Fran Trautmann
This week on The Patty-G Show, we had the honor of sitting down and discussing the entire life cycle of a glass bottle with Fran Trautmann, co-founder and CEO of Glass Half Full. She founded the organization while in college and set out to solve a problem in her area, glass recycling. Living in New Orleans, LA she knew there was nothing that was happening to help solve the problem of recycling glass bottles. After hours of research and sifting through Google results, she and her co-founder discovered there was in fact a process that allowed you to turn a glass bottle back into the sand in which it was created from. Fueled with this knowledge, she began researching where to purchase the machines in order to complete this cycle. A GoFundMe account later and they were off to the races. A couple years later and they have filled their 40,000sqf warehouse with machinery and bottles and have revolutionized the recycling process in her area and begun helping to restore the coastlines of Louisiana. Thank you to each and everyone of you for helping support the show. It is through each of you that we are able to continuously share stories like these every week. Through open conversations with Our Lady of the Lake he was able to make the shift to form an all male practice that is a subscription based pricing model. Partnering with Dr. Boudreaux, they bring a level of access that has not been seen in the medical community before. If you are on the golf course, in between meetings or even enjoying your morning coffee, you have the ability to shoot them a quick text/call/email with a question and hear back in a short period of time. Episode #124 - Cooler Than The Competition - Bryan McGehee
This week we sat down with Bryan McGehee to discuss innovating on a product that was already dominated in the market by one brand. Going from the oil field to entrepreneur was no easy task. Bryan traded his life on the road for one that was to be uncertain for years to come. However, he and his brother knew they wanted to go into business and create the brand Gatr. Initially starting out by creating and selling coolers to friends and family, they quickly realized they were on the cusp of creating a brand that captured their heritage. Growing up outside of the Houma/Thibodeaux area, life was filled with countless run ins of wildlife and alligators were high on that list. Utilizing their skills learned on the pipe lines and oil field, they wanted to create a value added product that stood out from the rest. And that they have indeed! Episode #119: Do You Know Your Brand? - Drew Reilley
Close your eyes and imagine a brand. What brand is it? Why do you think you thought of that brand? Is it a popular brand, or only one you're familiar with? This thought train of why you think of a brand is extremely intriguing, how does our brain associate colors and designs to determine what brand we think of immediately. As we sat down with Drew Reilley of Slash Creative, we were able to take a deep dive this week into what all goes into his process of developing a brand and making sure the business is telling the story it wants to tell. Initially as we think of branding, maybe thoughts such as marketing, advertising or even promoting comes to mind. However, Drew, would say that none of those things fully encapsulate just what makes each and every company unique. While some enjoy a good Times New Roman font for their logo, others like to be extremely creative and unique with their design. At Slash Creative, Drew Reilley and his team focus on asking questions with each new client they meet with to really get down to their "why" ever before they draw an image or type a mantra. This is just the tip of the iceberg for what we covered in this episode, we hope you enjoy! We would be forever grateful if you took the time to share the show with your friends and family. Baseball, trading cards, gym memberships, NFTs and Korea, that is just a small dose of what we discussed this week in our latest episode of The Patty-G Show. We sat down with Anthony Ranaudo, former LSU pitcher on the 2009 championship team and major league baseball player, who now is a proud franchisee of F45 and owner of Cards and Culture right here in Baton Rouge. Anthony moved down from New Jersey to play baseball for LSU and fell in love with the people and culture that we have to offer here in Baton Rouge. After successfully winning the national title, he moved on to play through the minor leagues and make his way to the major leagues where he made a name for himself and eventually explored playing some international ball in Korea. After completing his career, Anthony made the decisions to return to his new home of Baton Rouge and get started in the business side of life. Making a few angel investments, he realized he wanted more than to just cut a check and be done with the business. Working through a friend, he was introduced to the F45 concept and quickly became the first Baton Rouge franchisee to build a location. Once completed, he still had the urge to be an owner of his own creation and sought out that entrepreneurial spirit through trading cards and collectible items. Episode #100: I'm Your Host - Patty-G
Episode #100: I'm Your Host - Patty-G
The moment has come. We have reached the next level of the show, episode #100. This is a major milestone for our show as we began this journey two years ago. The origin of the show came from an iPhone 8 and a Baton Rouge raised local wanting to make an impact in his community. We wanted to set out on a project that would shine the light on local businesses and local entrepreneurs doing incredible things in the community. With the goal of attracting people to come stay and work in Baton Rouge, that was our genesis. There was no fancy camera equipment and no specialty mics, just an iPhone 8 and the ambition to create something that would last. Looking back over the last 100 episodes has been somewhat of a time capsule. Being able to go back and listen to the early shows is really special to us. In addition to that, the first guests that believed in the mission and made the show what it is today have all played a significant role in making it what it has become. There are so many people that have made this show possible, and for that we want to thank each and every one of you. Without the guests and the listeners, this show would not have become what it is today. We have 100 in the books, and are excited about the next 100 to come!
