How Does Culture Shape Us?
This week on the program, Drew and Perry continue discussing the book "You Are What You Love," by James K. A. Smith. They are challenged by Smith's proposition in the second chapter that we may not actually love what we say we love, since our behaviour usually shows us what we actually love. The culture we find ourselves in plays huge role in this transformation. How can we be aware of this and try to create better habits? Time to get pondering....

Do We Become What we Love?
Drew and Perry discuss in this week's episode of The Pondercast the first chapter of a book by James K. A. Smith called, "You are what you Love." They wrestle with Smith's argument that knowledge does not lead to transformation, but correct habits that leads to transformation. How does this play into the work of theology then, particularly this podcast, which is concerned most of all with thinking? Let's get pondering.

A Message to Jordan Peterson's Message to Christian Churches
Welcome back to The Pondercast! This week Drew and Perry discuss one of Jordan Peterson's recent video essays, "A Message to Christian Churches," in which he offers advice to Christians to get young people, young men especially, back into the church. Drew and Perry critique his message, offer some push-back, and acknowledge the wisdom found within.

As a side note, we talk about how angry he has become in some of his recent videos, and we thought it would be helpful to include a video he produced recently on this topic. In this video he discusses the push-back he has received because of his tone, and has an interview with a friend of his who pushes back on some of his ideas. Substitutionary Atonement
This week on The Pondercast, Drew and Perry begin looking at atonement theories and start with the big one, substitutionary atonement. They look at how it is understood, misconceptions of the theory and common criticisms. They tackle topics surrounding child sacrifice, the wrath of God, the obedience of the Son, justice, and propitiation. Throughout their discussion there are a lot of disagreements and raised voices, but it makes for a great conversation. Drew even includes a "Chronicles of Narnia" reference; and Perry a "Lord of the Flies" reference. This episode is a great introduction to atonement theories specifically penal substitutionary atonement and hopefully worth your listen. Enjoy and keep pondering.

Jacob vs God - A Wresting Match for the Ages (The PonderChat #4)
This week on The PonderChat your two hosts are joined by Pastor Jeremy Loseth to gain some insight on a well known, but still confusing wrestling match found in Scripture (you're not gonna find something like this on WWE, you can be sure of that!). They look at the story of Jacob wrestling with God, discuss some of the misconceptions and dive into Scripture to see what this wrestling match really means for the body of Christ, the individual believer, and the church today. Seeing as Jeremy was on the program this week, you can trust that this is a very fun and informative conversation. Enjoy the fourth edition of The PonderChat!

Why Denominations?
On the one year anniversary episode of The Pondercast -- YAY! -- Perry and Drew dig deep into the reason for all the different denominations that exist. They go back in time to the great schism in the 1000s, to the Reformation, to the 20th century, and to the present day. Is there a path forward for unity amongst the various denominations? Can we agree to disagree? These questions and more answered on this week's episode of The Pondercast. Let's get pondering, and celebrate 1 year of verbal processing into a microphone!

Old Testament Law for Today? - Part 2
Should the Old Testament play a role in how governments operate? Perry and Jordan Dudgeon continue their discussion on the doctrine of theonomy, that is, what is the relationship between society and the Mosaic Law? Jordan argues that, while the law has been fulfilled by Christ, the principles contained within the law can still be helpful in governing. On the other hand, Perry disagrees, saying that the New Testament gives no precedence for this idea. Spoiler alert: They don't agree in the end, but they make each other think differently, and deeply!
