65. When was the last time you hugged your plumber?
If you’ve been following me on social media for any length of time, you’ve probably seen me wearing a costume.
You might have wondered why the hell is Camille wearing costumes?
The answer is, because I want to. That’s it! The costumes are not a gimmick or a ploy. I simply love them and think it’s fun to build a business wherein I get to do things I love. Full stop.
I figure when you see me in a costume you’re either drawn in and want to know more or you’re repulsed and leave.
Dressing up in costume along with going to renaissance faires, watching superhero movies, and hiking through the woods are all things that are authentically me.
Those who leave because I do those things, aren’t my people! We’re never gonna vibe and I’m clearly not the coach for them.
I recently had a lovely experience with some other business owners who were one hundred percent authentic during our interactions and it led me to do something I never would have imagined were I making this up. Listen to find out what happened and why.

Erika Andresen, CBCP, JD, MPA, is a recovering lawyer after nearly two decades in both the corporate finance world and the military. Erika became a subject matter expert on national security and disaster preparedness/response while advising different commands and also during high-risk situations in Afghanistan. Her work with actual disasters led her to attain a Master of Public Affairs.
Erika left active duty in 2020 and has since started EaaS Consulting, LLC, with the goal of keeping businesses in business. To that end, she authored How to Not Kill Your Business: Grow Your Business in Any Environment, Navigate Volatility, and Successfully Recover When Things Go Wrong, a conversational introduction to business continuity enjoyed by CBCP practitioners and business owners alike.
Erika is also a professor of emergency management for the MPA program at the University of Texas at El Paso. She has been quoted extensively in articles for Forbes, Dark Reading, SmartSheet, and MoneyGeek on the issues of business continuity and disaster preparedness.
I loved chatting with Erika about how she has always followed her own path, even when it didn’t make sense to anyone else. Not many people would quit their job, join the military, and take a $70,000 pay cut to follow their calling, but that’s exactly what she did.

I don't know if this ever happens to you, but sometimes I meet someone who feels like they live on a slightly different plane of existence. From the moment I met Reagan I got that feeling like, damn, this guy knows things. Similar to many entrepreneurs he's been through some major lows, like losses in the millions, and major highs. He has learned from every single experience. In this episode Reagan was kind enough to share his story with me as well as some of his philosophy on life including where to find happiness.

I'm really not sure what it is, but the first time a person who is not a friend or family member organically finds and genuinely interacts with your business, it's a big fucking deal.
I don't know why it's such a big deal, but it is.

My favorite part is when Devin points out the distinction between having the mindset of a millionaire and randomly spending all of your money pretending you're a millionaire. She shares some super insightful questions we can ask ourselves to help us stay on track. She even tells us how we can still have rewards along the way. My favorite takeaway was Devin's little tip towards the end on how to manifest the life we want.

31. The Power of Saying No
Apparently this was the first time I tested out the name of this podcast! That came as a surprise to me when I started listening because I thought I came up with the name just recently. Huh. That tends to happen to me a lot. I have a good idea, forget about it, then later I have the same good idea, use it, and then find evidence that it was actually an old good idea. This is why I take lots of notes and catalog my stuff well. Recently, I've been able to remember when I already did the work on something and go pull it up. Major time saver. Anyway, in this episode I say no to a whole bunch of stuff in order to say yes to accomplishing my goal. 30. Having Money is Not a Bad Thing | Forrest Huguenin
I know what it's like living on a variable income. And I know what it's like to be broke, desperate and scared. In 1991 I was at the lowest point of my life. I’d lost my job. My car had just been repossessed. My in-laws at the time wanted to kick me out of the house we had been renting from them. And, I didn’t have a clue about where my next dollar was going to come from.
And if that wasn’t enough… my son had just been born! I remember holding him in my arms and saying “Welcome to the world son. Daddy doesn’t have a job.” And I started crying. I wish I could say that in that moment I had an epiphany, picked myself up, and "fixed" me. Sadly, that was not to be.
I had a few more ups and downs, including a bankruptcy, in my future. I was convinced at the time that the key to financial security was simply in learning about how to handle money. So I devoured a ton of books on the subject, attended seminars, joined MLM schemes, joined myself to a crooked business partner (that ended in a Grand Jury and my being a federal witness), changed jobs… changed jobs… and changed jobs.
I was always chasing dollars, thinking that the answer to all my woes lay in making more money. And every time I failed at the money game I blamed someone or something for my bad fortune.
Then one day I was listening to a motivational speaker say the thing that finally shifted my thinking. He said “You will not ever change your circumstances until you get sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
That was the great Les Brown and I felt like he was talking directly to me. Then it hit me. I wasn’t yet sick and tired of being sick and tired. I also realized that another J.O.B. (Just Over Broke was not the answer).
On a fluke, a friend hired me to organize his messy files in preparation for a state audit. That began my career as a professional organizer, which morphed into being a life coach, which morphed into being a financial services representative for a major firm and then I transitioned from that to being a financial coach, working for myself.
Along the way I helped hundreds through workshops, seminars and one-on-one sessions. That’s the unique experience I bring to you. I’m not perfect. I still make mistakes. I’m just a guy with a little more experience than the folks I work with because I walked the path they are walking a little earlier than they have. And I have a burning desire to help them avoid the pain that comes with making the mistakes I’ve made!

27. Adorable Inexperience
I've done a lot of things really well, so I think it's important for me not to hide my stupid moments or my naïveté when that sort of thing happens.
Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know and it's impossible for others to warn you about everything.
I do know I figure out the truth later and I'm pretty sure I talk about it in a future episode that I haven't re-listened to and done the post-production on yet.
