"It's not my responsibility to educate you" and "emotional labor" are two concepts that are often found in activist spaces. While this rhetoric may sound powerful and liberating, they are are politically unhelpful.

Note: I made a mistake at around 23:48. I mentioned that a white college dropout was 15 times more likely to be in prison than a Black college graduate. This statistic actually pertains to white high school dropouts rather than white college dropouts. Storming the Capitol

How did we get here and how do we get out? I believe economic conditions and a highly polarized media environment paved the way for the storming of the US Capitol. It will take a left agenda and strong relationships built on solidarity and common cause that will help us avoid further disaster.

George Floyd, BLM, Police Violence, Antiracism - A Critical Assessment

George Floyd, BLM, Police Violence, Antiracism - A Critical Assessment

George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police officers on May 25th, 2020. His death sparked nationwide protests demanding justice for Mr. Floyd and an end to police violence. The dominant discourse utilized by activists and demonstrators relied on a race reductionist, liberal antiracist framework. We should all be vehemently opposed to racism, prejudice, and discrimination, but the antiracist line is inadequate for understanding the root causes of our carceral crisis along with who is most likely targeted, killed, and incarcerated. In this episode, I utilize several works from scholars and researchers that help make sense of our current policing crisis and how we should respond to it.

LeBron James' "Humble Beginnings" Ad

Is LeBron James a socialist? Probably not. His new ad for Nike does question our love for "rags to riches" stories. Instead of applauding athletes who escape their terrible circumstances to achieve greatness, we should eradicate the conditions that produce such unequal and unjust outcomes in the first place.
