This is a followup to my last episode "RPR: George Floyd, BLM, Police Violence, Antiracism - A Critical Assessment." I go over the corporate response to the death of George Floyd, the idea of defunding the police, and the removal of monuments. Music by Lukrembo

George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police officers on May 25th, 2020. His death sparked nationwide protests demanding justice for Mr. Floyd and an end to police violence. The dominant discourse utilized by activists and demonstrators relied on a race reductionist, liberal antiracist framework. We should all be vehemently opposed to racism, prejudice, and discrimination, but the antiracist line is inadequate for understanding the root causes of our carceral crisis along with who is most likely targeted, killed, and incarcerated. In this episode, I utilize several works from scholars and researchers that help make sense of our current policing crisis and how we should respond to it. 

"Solidarity Forever" was written by trade union activist Ralph Chaplin in 1915. It has been covered by a multitude of artists including Pete Seeger.  Underneath the simple and catchy tune is a message of solidarity and desire to create a more fair and just society. Listen to the song here.

In this episode, I talk about tendencies within contemporary left/liberal circles and how they are unhelpful towards the project of organizing the forces necessary to challenge power. 

Someone I know recommended an article off Quora about politics in America. Not only was it unremarkable, it was completely off the mark regarding Bernie Sanders and progressive politics.  Article here Edit: The "article" is actually an answer to a Quora question of the same title. I talk about Bernie Sanders dropping out of the presidential race and share my thoughts on some criticisms levied against him. There's a part where I mistakenly say "superior court" instead of "Supreme Court." Music credits go to Lukrembo.

Instead of applauding athletes who escape their terrible circumstances to achieve greatness, we should eradicate the conditions that produce such unequal and unjust outcomes in the first place.

I discuss why Senator Kamala Harris dropped out of the 2020 race and why Pete Buttigieg continues to be the worst candidate in the field.

I recently attended a Justice and Safety Challenge workshop in San Francisco. Representatives from various criminal justice agencies and service providers came to discuss the connection between mental health, substance abuse, homelessness, and criminal justice. Although there was a lot of knowledge and expertise in the room, these issues cannot truly be addressed without looking at our economical system. 

In this episode, I talk about what's missing in our contemporary discussions on racism, misogyny, sexism, and other forms of oppression.

Shane Martin discusses three strategies he utilizes when manning a suicide hotline. Shane Ray Martin is a speaker and negotiation coach for millennials. He works at a growing technology company named Poll Everywhere in San Francisco as a sales executive.  Shane’s greatest work is done volunteering at the national suicide hotline where nearly every conversation is a life or death negotiation. One thing is consistent across the work Shane does, he loves to negotiate and is constantly seeking to improve and share his skills.
