Fiercely Feminine Studios

Fiercely Feminine Studios

On this episode, we chat with owner and founder Jaida of Fiercely Feminine Studios.

In her own words: Photography is what I love! Getting to focus my camera on women from all walks of life and seeing how it empowers and transforms them is priceless. For 7 years, I’ve nurtured this business and have watched it grow.

I’ve always understood the power of photography, but even more so now that I’m a mom. It’s here to hold the moments still and to pass on for future generations. Photography also helps me to celebrate myself, to take time for me, to feel beautiful even with chaos.

I believe that every woman should feel beautiful and have at least one beautiful portrait of herself. As a photographer, I am committed to giving each client a photography experience where she can breathe, love on herself, and shine.

When I’m not capturing the beauty of my clients, I love to travel, lay on the beach, read books and spend time with my loved ones.

The visionary goals of Fiercely Feminine Studios is to empower women of color to love themselves unapologetically through a self-care based photography experience.

Her mission is to provide our clients with a transformational photography experience where she is able to prioritize herself, if only for a few hours, and leaves remembering exactly how fiercely feminine she is. She is fierce, she is feminine, and unique in many ways.

About Happy Cork:

Happy Cork, founded in 2019 by Sunshine Foss, is a wine and spirits travel shop with an emphasis on community.  Since opening our doors, Happy Cork has evolved in becoming a travel destination for all people to experience the largest selection of black and minority owned wine and spirits.   “When I first ventured into the world of wine and spirits I knew I needed to give a platform to these underserved, amazing brands that were often overlooked. It’s now become my passion to highlight and show these wonderful brands while catering to the community surrounding us,” Sunshine explains.   Additionally, patrons are welcomed with not only smiling faces but a diverse variety of accessories made by people of color. We are dedicated to providing you the most amazing experience so please: enter, ask questions, and take your time taking in our store.

Every single bottle has been tasted by our team, so we know everything that goes into the store is delicious and something we’d want to buy at affordable prices.

About Sunshine Foss:

Sunshine Foss is a woman of many talents. Born in Brooklyn, New York to St. Lucian parents, Sunshine had the best of both worlds: Brooklyn roots with an upbringing on the beautiful island of St. Lucia – affording her the opportunity to flourish and cultivate the woman she is today. Upon returning to the concrete jungle of New York, Sunshine once again moved – this time to Miami where she pursued her first passion, design. While living in the sunshine state, Sunshine became known in the Miami community as the best kept secret for everything vintage.  A new shift in her career followed her return and marrying to Remo Foss; the two pursued a career in real estate – complimenting each other’s talents of sharp business and a keen eye for design. Two kids, available space, and a dream later: Happy Cork Wine and Spirits was born.   Sunshine’s love for design greatly influenced the feel and product selection while developing the Brooklyn-based store. From the wood pallet cash wrap to the tree stump hanging display, the store features up-cycled/ recycled merchandise along with an amazing assortment of wine & liquor. Sunshine spared no detail in ensuring Happy Cork is truly a happy place made for the community to find joy upon entering. Unlike other wine and spirits shops within the local community, customers are treated like guests, invited in to ask questions, touch the bottles, and indulge in all the store’s offerings.

The mommypreneur is constantly thinking of new ways to ensure the community Happy Cork serves is kept at the center. This commitment to community includes featuring local artists, working with other small businesses to keep the block clean, and hosting events – currently virtual – as a means to continue cultivating beautiful connections amongst the people Happy Cork serves.

Flo Wines

Flo Wines

Hey There, Friends!

This week we chat with our new cousin Marcus Johnson, an independent Billboard-ranked musician, NAACP Image Award nominee, owner of FLO Brands and FLO Wine, JD and MBA, philanthropist, father, friend... and so much more!

What is FLO (For the Love Of)? It represents the journey through which we discover those things in life that fulfill us and make each experience a little better. For the love of life, self, happiness, passion, joy…love itself.

While pursuing his JD and MBA at Georgetown, he independently produced and distributed his first CD (Lessons in Love), which sold more than 40,000 units; a phenomenal success for an unknown independent artist’s debut release. This album helped him launch his career as a renowned jazz keyboardist/pianist, and later, he released his second CD (Inter Alia), with staggering success

This success caught the attention of Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder and businessman Robert L. Johnson, who invested and partnered with Marcus to establish Marimelj Entertainment Group. Under their partnership, MEG’s label Three Keys Music housed Studio 8121, a full-service recording studio, and two music publishing companies: Marimelj Music Publishing and Three Keys Music Publishing.

As head of Three Keys Music, Johnson produced and released on the Three Keys Music label national jazz artists: Michael Lington, Jaared Arosemena, Bobby Lyle, Nick Colionne, R&B singer, Alyson Williams, neo-soul songstress, Zahzarah; and smooth jazz Saxophonists Phillip Martin and Brian Lenair.

To date, Marcus has released more than fifteen Billboard charted CDs, and has the distinction of having his groundbreaking 2008 Billboard Top 20 Contemporary Jazz FLO (For the Love Of) Anthology, which consisted of three distinct CDs -- FLO Chill, FLO Romance and FLO Standards - all chart Top 10 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts simultaneously.

The release of Poetically Justified (2009) and This is How I Rock (2011), which were Top 20 Contemporary Jazz CDs, solidified Marcus Johnson as the heir apparent to the funky urban groove music style and sound made famous by legendary jazz greats, George Duke and Herbie Hancock.

FLO Wines

ROSÉ

The Rosé gives bright, floral aromas of lilac and rose petal with flavors of fresh strawberry and raspberry on the palate. It is light in body with refreshing acidity and a crisp, clean finish.

CHARDONNAY

The Chardonnay uses minimal oak, allowing the bright fruit to take center stage. Well-balanced, it offers Lemon and citrus notes with a hint of green apple. Flavors of tropical fruit, baked fig and vanilla with buttery overtones on the finish.

Brain Pop Drink Happy Hour

Brain Pop Drink Happy Hour

This week we chat with the amazing creator of Brain Pop Drink, Sierra Hooshiari!

Check out their website: https://newagedrinks.com/

New Age Drinks is a smart soda startup founded by Sierra Hooshiari in 2021. Sierra was inspired to launch BrainPOP when she felt like there wasn’t a drink on the market she could relate to or fully align with her values of health & wellness. Our Mission is to reinvent soda as a fun & healthy, ‘nootropic’ functional beverage, one sip at a time. 😉  We use the tagline #DrinkToThink because it is our desire to inspire BrainPOP drinkers to prioritize their brain health with cognitively-supportive nutrition every day.  We worked with Cornell Food Ventures to test the flavors and prepare BrainPOP for a commercial production run. We use organic ingredients whenever available.

Our fruit purées come from fair-trade farms all over the world, and we purchase them from a family-owned business located in the Midwest.  With each production run, we hope to scale up and stay within an affordable price range.  We believe that clean and high-quality foods should be affordable and accessible to everyone.   We completed our first commercial production run at The Brooklyn Cannery this past June, 2022. We are excited to share our first four SKUs in the Classic Line with our fans and health-seeking consumers.  New Age Drinks was founded by Sierra Hooshiari, a NYC native. Sierra suffered a traumatic brain injury during her sophomore year at Cornell when she was hit by an intoxicated, speeding driver. She was in a coma for four days.  Sierra was motivated to leave her corporate job when she won a government grant to launch BrainPOP.

Now she works full-time at New Age Drinks and consults other CPG companies on the side.  Sierra worked with a former neuroscientist colleague and a few physicians on the formula, which has a botanical caffeine blend, four amino acids, minerals and vitamins. Each serving has only 6-8g of organic cane sugar per 12oz serving.  These fizzy fusions are effervescent and delicious.

Each can of BrainPOP has a botanical caffeine blend, 4 amino acids, vitamins, minerals & a hydration cocktail with Vitamin D. This product is designed with thought and care. We use fruit purées that leave a fresh burst of fruit in your mouth, purchased from a family-owned business in the Midwest, that runs with the highest trade standards in how it treats its farmers around the globe. With only 6-10g of sugar per 12oz serving, this product makes caffeine-fueled energy rewarding and brain nutrition tasteful!  This product has no preservatives, sweeteners, or artificial flavors or colors. We use organic ingredients wherever possible.  We want the next generation of beverage-drink consumers to enjoy a lightly-flavored, delicious drink that refreshes and delights them.

Roseade Rosé

Roseade Rosé

This week we chat with Karl Ziegler of Concurrent Wines who imports Roseade --  a unique and delicious ready-to-drink rosé-wine-based spritzer, launched in the U.S. market in April 2021.  Originally created in 2018 in Victoria, Australia, Roseade entered the U.S. market via Concurrent Wines. Roseade has recently aligned with four new distributors nationwide in the following states: California, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas. In the state of California, Roseade is now distributed by Classic Wines of California, owned and operated by the Franzia family. Franco Wine is now distributing Roseade in the state of Nevada and has long-standing relationships in the Las Vegas beverage community. Oklahoma distribution will now be led by retail-focused distributor Revolution Wholesale. Victory Wine Group, part of Palomar Beverage Company, is distributing Roseade throughout the state of Texas for all chain stores and independents. “Our first six months in the U.S. market have been such a success that we are continuing to grow our distribution footprint even as we head into the cooler months,” says Roseade co-founder Karl Ziegler. “As we roll into 2022, we will move production to California, a strategic move that provides us the opportunity to continue expanding into new markets quickly and efficiently to meet growing market demand.” Roseade has blazed a new and exciting trail as the original rosé lemonade spritz, boasting incomparable refreshment, flavor, and fun in a can from Down Under. Each can is complete with Lenny the Lemon’s smiling face, inviting good times, and good vibes. Most recently, Roseade has been awarded two silver medals, from the 2021 Monterey International Wine Competition and the 2021 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition. Distribution of Roseade continues to expand, and the brand can be found at many independent retailers nationwide as well as online. Roseade is packaged in modern 250-milliliter cans showcasing its playful and whimsical logo of Lenny the Lemon lounging in the sunshine –— designed to capture attention on the shelf. The gluten-free drink can be enjoyed chilled straight from the can or served on ice, making it more accessible than other wine-based ready-to-drink options. Roseade invites people to drink wine in an unpretentious and enjoyable way that offers more refreshment than alternative malt beverages and basic canned wines. PRICING & AVAILABILITY Roseade is available online and in select grocery and liquor stores. Each can is 8% ABV and sold in four-packs at a suggested retail price of $16.99. The refreshing drink also will be available at select restaurants and bars, served in cans or over ice. For all wholesale inquiries please contact info@roseadeusa.com. The refreshing wine-based beverage is a low-alcohol (8% ABV), gluten-free ready-to-drink combination of rosé, traditional lemonade, and spritz. Enjoyed in a can or over ice, Roseade is intended to celebrate good times and good vibes with a refreshingly fun twist on a rosé spritz. The spritzer is available in four packs, boasting Lenny the Lemon’s chill vibe on each vibrant pink can.

Lapin Rouille and Rosé Fun

Lapin Rouille and Rosé Fun

This episode we chat with the amazing and wonderful founder (and maybe my cousin Nichole Johnson)!.
About the Wine
Immerse yourself in Lapin Rouillé Champagne. Our inaugural cuvée is made in the traditional brut style, using only hand-harvested Pinot Meunier grapes from a small single estate producer near the city of Reims in La Belle France. At Rusty Rabbit we set out to take you on a spirited journey around the world. We invite you to join us in our first steps and sips out of the warren and hop into the prestigious vineyards of Champagne, France. Lapin Rouillé Brut Champagne is the exemplary first release from the Rusty Rabbit Drinks warren. A traditional style champagne, crafted from hand-harvested Pinot Meunier grapes from Massif de Saint-Thierry, Reims. Dry with pronounced floral and red berry characters over juicy, vibrant acidity and light minerality.
Follow us down the rabbit hole to see where we pop up next.
100% Pinot Meunier champagne is celebrated for its light, dry and floral flavors. And Lapin Rouillé is no exception. Our champagne follows in the footsteps (or pawprints) of preeminent cuvées from the likes of Billecart-Salmon, Laherte and Egly-Ouriet.
About the Company
The newest premium black-owned Champagne brands in the world arrives today in the US market. Launched in the UK in December 2020, Lapin Rouillé Champagne is set to woo American champagne drinkers from this week, when it becomes available. The US launch will be limited to only 1000 bottles but will be followed later this year by its sister, a Rosé Cuvée. Lapin Rouillé is presented in a distinctive, red-wrapped bottle, showing off its inimitable gold rabbit logo. In a line-up of the world’s premium champagnes, it’s hard to miss. The brand has been brought into the world by Nichole Johnson, known as The International Bootlegger and CEO of business consultancy Rusty Rabbit International, Its French name translates as, you guessed it, Rusty Rabbit.
Significantly, Lapin Rouillé is heralded as the first (and only) female black-owned champagne in the UK and one of only two brands with this claim in Europe. And with only one female black-owned champagne brand in the USA, this elevates Johnson into a unique crowd. The Background We pay homage to Mrs. Hazel Lee Brown, the grandmother of our founder, Nichole Johnson. Hazel was born on December 28, 1929. She was the eldest of 13 children born to Oliver Small Sr. and Virgie Lee Small in Bethany, Louisiana located in Caddo Parish Louisiana.

— Ashton Keefe, Director of Good Imbibes

At That Girl Wine Company we pride ourselves on delivering fantastic wines at fair price points, that celebrate all of your life’s accomplishments.

Our wine-making team and our winery operations group scour the globe seeking the finest raw and finished products for customers with the most discriminating taste. These products are then refined at one of our two winemaking facilities in California and New York.

Finished products are then sold online via our That Girl Wine Company website and shipped directly to consumers across the United States where state and local laws allow.

Black Vines

Black Vines

This week we chat with the amazing Fern Stoud of Black VINES!!!!! Nearly 10 years ago, Fern A. Stroud, had the vision to conceive an event that could bridge the gap between Black wine connoisseurs and Black wine vintners in the Bay Area.

She aimed to bring the community together in a positive and uplifting setting, but after hosting a couple of events it was evident that Black Vines was so much more than just an event, it immediately bloomed into a community of its own. With a curated network of Black-owned wineries and vintners at its core, we have curated space of Black love, Black joy, and Black excellence, spreading love, joy, and peace while acknowledging black history and focused on celebrating Black future.

We noticed that the access to Black Wineries, Black wine labels, and other Black wine lovers within our community was slim, if not non-existent. And after gaining more access to vintners of color, we came to realize that the wine community at large is filled with invisible barriers that block access to luxury experiences and growth within the industry.

By demystifying the industry, illuminating the existence of Black wineries and vintners, and providing a platform for Black artists and artisans, we can strive to dismantle invisible barriers and develop unpretentious experiences uniquely curated for Black audiences and like-minded allies. The Black Vines Annual Festival serves as our platform to bridge the gap between business, music, arts and community.

Black Vines is now the longest-standing Black wine festival in the country and California’s preeminent curator of Black wine experiences and special events. Hosting an annual celebration of culture, art, and wine education that brings together Black artists, Black musicians, Black winemakers, and vintners; an outdoor summer soiree featuring delectable light fare paired with sparkling rosé, and sangria.

Further, we have become a year-round itinerary of custom events in partnership with key influencers and industry specialists. To date, thousands of guests have been served with hundreds of varietals tasted.

Featuring some of the best Black-owned wineries across the nation.

Every year we curate an amazing selection of Black-owned brands for you to indulge in.

Los Hermanos Tequila 1978

Los Hermanos Tequila 1978

This week we chat it up with the brothers of Los Hermanos Tequila!!!!

The name, Los Hermanos, translates to “the brothers” in English. The brothers, William and Donta, are two brothers from the historic community of Freetown Village in Pasadena, Maryland. Freetown is a small community where everyone is familia.

Donta (the younger brother) was born in 1978, and thus the brotherhood that brought you Los Hermanos 1978 had begun. Being seven years apart in age, the Brothers would lead very different lives, as William (the eldest brother) preferred the bright lights and fast-paced living city Baltimore had to offer. In contrast, Donta preferred the open spaces and quiet of Pasadena.

No amount of geography could keep the Brothers apart.  Whether it was separate counties or separate countries, the Brothers always maintained their close-knit bond and brotherhood. Donta and William renewed their dedication to this brotherly bond during the COVID-19 pandemic over bottles of tequila.

As experienced tequila drinkers, the Brothers wanted to create a signature tequila taste that was so incredible people would create lasting memories together over bottles of Los Hermanos 1978. Their journey led them from Baltimore to the small town and magical of Tequila, Mexico. They partnered with the most awarded distillery in Mexico, Casa Maestri, to produce the Los Hermanos 1978 line of tequilas.

William and Donta brought Los Hermanos 1978 back to Baltimore, and in a nod to their ancestors, they launched the city’s first Black and veteran-owned tequila company and won two awards for their tequilas.

Vacays and Vittles

Vacays and Vittles

We are so thrilled to chop it up with our new friend, Shayna from Vacay and Vittles!

In Her Own Words...

Some people like to collect things like stamps or shot glasses; I am a collector (and sharer) of experiences. Whether I'm traveling the world or trying a new restaurant down the street, I enjoy exploring the unknown and sharing those moments with others either thru videos and photographs or in person via the events I host.

"Vacays & Vittles" started as an Instagram page for solely for my food and travel pictures after a couple of my friends told me I post too much of them on MY personal page (#Haters). And while I've always enjoyed hosting and entertaining friends and family in my home, transitioning it into a business was the last thing on my mind.  I always worried, if I turned what I loved to do into a business, would I love it as much or would start to feel like work?

As I begin to document the things I ate and drank and the places I traveled to, I connected with people who inspired me to continue and helped me to focus on finding my own lane in my own time. I'd have these ideas of really cool events to host based off of something I ate or drank or a place I went and I'd think to myself, "This would be really cool if someone put this together, I'd pay for that experience." Then one day it hit me - "Why can't I do it myself?" And the rest was history...

The Pour Pairing Rosé Box

"Pour Pairings" is a subscription box curated for the wine curious, wine lovers and wine enthusiasts. Our mission is to bring a little fun to wine education and food pairing experimentation by combining unique foods, the latest wine-related gadgets and tools, and other wine adjacent items right to your doorstep. The items in each box will complement the "wine of the month" which could be a simple grape varietal or a style of wine from a particular region.

With "Vacays and Vittles", you're going to see a lot of amazing food recommendations, mainly in the Baltimore area but also throughout my travels, interesting cocktails, and beautiful destinations. You're also (should you choose to come) going to experience some really dope and unique events. From donuts and wine pairings to Caribbean fetes to specially curated dinners, there's something for everyone and it will always be a good time.

Republic of Pink

Republic of Pink

Have you been to the Republic where it is divine and pink?  Well, join us as we chat with the founder of this land, Jason of the Republic of Pink!

About the Republic for which it stands...

The Republic of Pink was born from a singular dream: to make the best rosé in the world, right here in California. Why you might ask? Because for too long, the French have convinced us that the best rosés come from inside their borders, and like any red-blooded American would we took that as a challenge.  So we set out as many a great California company had before us: we made some space in the garage, made even more space on our credit cards, and got started on our quest to remake the future as we saw fit: one world-class bottle of rosé at a time.

About Jason

Jason Martin grew up working at the legendary Toronto bistro Le Select where he was schooled on the art and science of great pink wine. Moving to California in 2012, Jason realized that there was a huge opportunity to take rosé winemaking to a whole new level, so he got started, finally launching the Republic of Pink in 2018 after years of incubation.

The Rosé

Jason wanted a rosé that you could both crush by the pool and pair with great meals, so our mission for this wine was to pack as much flavor and refreshment into one bottle as we possibly could. We start with a classic Provençal blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedré: for those strawberries, melon, bright cherry & ripe pink grapefruit flavors; then we add in a twist of Cabernet Franc for a few savory notes and a slight rounder mouthfeel. The result is a rosé like no other in California: complex and refreshing, fruit-forward and dry. Pair it with a Spotify playlist and a pool toy, break it out for pizza night with the fam, or do whatever you want with it - here in the Republic of Pink, your options are limitless.

Inman Family Wines

Inman Family Wines

Hey, Friends!  We are so excited to catch up with Katheleen of Inman Family Wines out of Sonoma County!!

About Kathleen

Kathleen Inman is the owner, winemaker, and general manager of Inman Family Wines and Olivet Grange Vineyard in Sonoma County, California.

A Napa Valley native, Inman started Inman Family Wines in 2000 with the planting of an OGV 10.45-acre estate in the heart of the Russian River Valley. She currently produces Pinot Noir, an intentional direct-to-press Rosé of Pinot Noir called Endless Crush®, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Extra Brut Luxe Cuvée, Brut Rosé, and a Blanc de Noir.

Inman endeavors to produce wines that are naturally low in alcohol, high in acid, and food-friendly. Often an innovator and trendsetter, Inman was the first new California luxury brand to launch using 100% Stelvin® closures in 2002 and was a pioneer in the revival of California rosé, producing her best-selling Endless Crush ® rosé since 2004, long before they became a staple in California wineries.

Through the vineyard and winery, Inman has been able to meld her passion for Pinot Noir and what she calls her “eco-ethics”–sensitive farming, natural winemaking and environmentally responsible business practices. She works fervently to grow grapes and to make wines as naturally as possible to ensure they embody not only the pure personality of the grapes from which they’re made, but also the singular character of the place where they’re grown, while at the same time making the smallest impact possible on the land, water, and air. Inman farms without synthetic chemicals and is proud that her property has been certified sustainable by Sonoma County since 2016.

Inman’s passion for the environment was further embodied through her design of the Inman Family Winery, which is made almost entirely from recycled materials, is solar-powered and recycles all of the winery graywater. The winery has an electric vehicle charging station, which when originally installed was the first privately owned, publicly available station in the North Bay; it is connected directly to the winery’s solar array, off the grid.

The Rosé

2020 Endless Crush® Rosé - OGV Estate

Wine Specs Vintage 2019 Varietal Rose Appellation Russian River Valley

This 2020 vintage of Endless Crush® is made entirely from our "Sonoma County Sustainable"-certified Olivet Grange estate fruit; this wine is a beautiful, pale, delicate pink and is crisp and refreshing.

The 2020 Endless Crush® dances on the palate. With higher acid and lower alcohol (12%) this aromatic rose is beautifully balanced. A crowd-pleaser. Ripe watermelon, strawberries, honeysuckle and orange blossom with lovely minerality and racy acidity to delight the palate.

2018 Brut Rosé Sparkling

Wine Specs Vintage 2018 Varietal Sparkling Appellation Russian River Valley

This 2018 Brut Rosé recently received a 95 score from Wine Enthusiast!

Always a favorite in our tasting room, this small lot of méthode champenoise brut rosé sparkling wine is 100% Pinot Noir from our OGV Estate vineyard; it has a luscious mousse and a very fine bead. The colour is the palest of pink; the nose has all of the hallmarks of Olivet Grange fruit, including hints of fresh citrus, raspberry, gala apples, quince and brioche. A bright core of acid, along with a rich mouthfeel and a long finish showing great minerality, leave a clean, crisp palate impression.
