Raising Good Humans- a book review on The Running Educator Podcast
Hunter Clarke-Fields is a mindfulness mentor, host of the Mindful Mama podcast, creator of the Mindful Parenting course, and author of the book, "Raising Good Humans". This book helped me to be a better listener, bring calmness into my parenting style by using emotion coaching techniques, and model "I" Statements so children can be assertive communicators.
Please see The Running Educator Blog for all resources and information on this podcast.
Fear Setting
In this episode, we will not be talking about the year-end review but instead talking about the upcoming year with a fear setting - which is similar to goal setting. I hope to share my experience of the three-step process that I learned through my journey to help me face my fears and explore how to overcome them!

Five questions with DC Glenn
One of the most popular party rap/bass music duos of the early '90s, Atlanta's Tag Team -- aka Steve RollN and DC the Brain Supreme -- scored a massive hit with their 1993 single "Whoomp! There is it". I start the podcast with my cat shit story and then ask five questions to lead into the podcast interview.

“The Pain of Rest!” by Mike Cummings
The purpose of this biweekly podcast is to educate, inspire and empower you to unleash your best, most authentic self.
In episode twenty-eight, "The Pain of Rest," I share my story of committing to my running, getting injured, and why it is essential to put in active recovery and taper into your training program.
“The history of Treefort Music Fest” with Eric Gilbert
“The Characteristics of an Innovative Teacher" with Dr. Ken Bell
The purpose of this podcast is to give educators a step-by-step process to creating an innovative curriculum.
In a rapidly changing world, educators face a critical task: to help young people develop an innovative mindset, and they will need to address common differences. But research shows that barriers exist relating to class, race, and gender. By exposing students to innovative concepts, activities, and approaches, we can narrow the opportunity gap and prepare more students than ever.
"Double Robie"- race report by Mike Cummings
I have completed the most challenging half Marathon in the northwest called Robie Creek- seven times. But, on 3/27/2021, I did it twice, so it is the most challenging marathon! Some know it as the long climb to Aldape Summit; others see it as a “rite of spring” that arrives each year in the Boise foothills just before or on tax day. As a result, it has been proclaimed “The Toughest Race in the Northwest. But no matter what label you put on it, the annual Race to Robie Creek® is a challenge to all who dare to participate.
History: It was 6:30 pm on August 16, 1975, that Boisean Jon Robertson and 24 other participants competed in the first “Idaho Summer Road Racing Championships.” The start would be at Fort Boise (elevation 2725’), up Reserve Street and Shaw Mountain Road, and then climbing the long and winding road up through Rocky Canyon and over Aldape Summit (elevation 4797’), to a 13.1-mile finish at Robie Creek campground at Lucky Peak Reservoir (elevation 3065’) — combining a half-marathon distance with a 2072 foot ascent, and a 1732 foot descent. Such was the relatively quiet birth of the Rocky Canyon Sail toads and the Race to Robie Creek®. Run Race to Robie Creek.
The other purpose of keeping me motivated throughout was keeping my pace to thirteen-fifteen min miles.

"Meeting Someone by Chance" by Mike Cummings
For as long as I can remember, I have always believed that we meet people for a reason. Whether the reason is that we are to share life’s journey with them, share some knowledge or advice, or learn something deeper, more challenging about ourselves, these messengers come into our lives to shape our development as a person. Instead of walking by or ignoring someone, stop to ask yourself, ‘Have our paths crossed for a reason? Why am I here with this person today, in this exact spot? How can our energy help each other?’. Just put your phone down, smile, and say, ‘Hello,’ you never know what their message to you may bring. Make sure you check out all my other episodes.
My purpose for this podcast is to provide thought-provoking topics to educate, inspire and empower you to unleash your best, most authentic self.
Thanks for listening. Keep Running, keep learning.

"SEL" - Social Emotional Learning w/C. Whitmore.
In today's episode, Chance and I will discuss how to help students achieve a little more in their life by applying social-emotional learning into our current school system. During this episode, I talked about the importance of demonstrating self-management to students to help regulate their own emotions, manage everyday stress, and control their impulses. Social-Emotional Learning, also known as SEL, also teaches responsible decision-making and building healthy relationship skills that are needed in students’ everyday lives. Social-emotional learning is to help during the Covid19 pandemic and help students for the rest of their lives.
Chance and I discuss how to bridge the gap between schools and communities to help students' social and emotional skills in life.
