#73 Love is Coming with Persia Lawson

#73 Love is Coming with Persia Lawson

In this episode, I have the privilege of speaking with renowned dating and relationship coach and three-time author Persia Lawson. Growing up, Persia’s parents struggled with drug addiction. To escape the challenging emotions, she focused on becoming an overachiever, and as part of her subconscious coping mechanism, she found herself leaning into an addiction to sex and love. She became well-practised at sabotaging any chance of a happy relationship – either by cheating on the nice boyfriends or going out with dysfunctional ‘bad boys’.

Persia’s rock bottom moment came in her mid-twenties when she became the victim of sexual assault. Following this incident, she put on two stone in weight which prompted her concerned dad to take her away to a health retreat in Thailand. Whilst there, he gave Persia some advice that changed the entire trajectory of her life. These words were the launch pad she needed to leverage all her overachiever energy towards healing the real root of all her romantic dilemmas. Today Persia will be gracious enough to share her incredible story and offer the wisdom of what she has learned.

Highlights:

👉 How relationships are modelled for us

👉 Relationship Advice

👉 Self-sabotage

👉 Drivers behind cheating on a partner

👉 Respect in a relationship

#64 Empowering Motherkind with Zoe Blaskey

In this episode, I’ll be chatting with the founder of MotherKind, Zoe Blaskey. Zoe’s been on a path of self-enquiry and transformation following an anxious, depressive breakdown in her early 20s. She’s spent the last 15 years diving into all things personal development, sitting in cold church halls in 12-step meetings, meditating with monks at sunrise, and dancing all dressed in white on an island in Sweden.

She has reached the depths of despair and risen stronger than ever before and is obsessed with helping mothers realise their potential and awaken to how much personal power they have. Zoe recognised the pressure she was putting on herself, her perfectionism, her fear of getting it wrong, how she was silencing herself to keep the peace, and how she was losing her sense of self to what others wanted her to do.

Zoe remembers that feeling of being lost, broken and alone and now helps other mums overcome this. She’s also the host of the massively successful ‘The Motherkind Podcast’ and today we're going deep on how to help some of society's most important people… its mothers.

Highlights:

👉 The motherhood mindset

👉 Why you’re not broken

👉 Mum guilt

👉 Nurturing self compassion and self trust

#61 Darkness To Light with Vicki Witherick

In this episode, I'm chatting with author, meditation and energy healer, and anxiety specialist, Vicki Witherick. Vicki spent many years of her life in a very dark place battling her own mental health, but it was there that she discovered a natural way to heal and I began her well-being journey.

For over a decade, Vicki has been working on her own self-healing journey and has studied and practised a variety of holistic, energetic and alternative therapies. She immersed herself in areas of science, psychology, counselling, CBT, EFT, herbalism and cannabis for health, meditation and mindfulness practice, and sound therapy and gained qualifications in each. She even found time to become a Reiki master.

Vicki is now a specialist in anxiety support, mindset training, introducing well-being in the workplace and creating a meditation and self-care practice.

Highlights:

👉 What’s meant by energetic therapies, energy healing and the concept of our energy?

👉 Long-term and short-term approaches towards overcoming anxiety

👉 What are reiki and EFT and what are their benefits?

👉 Herbal and cannabis remedies enhance a person's health and well-being

#59 Validating Your Emotion with Kirstie George

#59 Validating Your Emotion with Kirstie George

In this episode, I'm chatting with health and fitness competitor and coach, Kirstie George.
Kirstie has set herself the mission to educate and support busy women to feel stronger, build confidence and lead happier healthy lifestyles. She became a personal trainer in 2018 after experiencing a life-changing event and following that, her own fitness journey.
She was diagnosed with PTSD after experiencing two pregnancy losses and a traumatic second birth where she nearly lost her life. Understandably, her mental health was at rock bottom and she started suffering panic attacks, anxiety and depression, this is when she started lifting weights in hope that it would help with her mindset.
Now, Kirstie feels strongly about helping women to feel empowered through health and fitness as previously, she had always been obsessed with fad diets, cardio and the number on the scales. She had yoyo dieted for years and never felt truly happy in her own skin, always looking for the “secret”.
During this transformational time, she’s turned her pain into power by competing in four bikini competitions in nine months, turning herself into a pro athlete in two federations. Kirstie’s the author of "Build Habits for Women" and has recently been nominated for 'Most Motivational' Athlete of the Year at Pure Elite.
Highlights:
👉 Her experience with loss and grief
👉 How she got to rock bottom
👉 What she did at rock bottom
👉 Giving herself permission to feel
👉 What she does when she’s not feeling motivated

#58 A Conversation With My Brother with Kris Lawrence

#58 A Conversation With My Brother with Kris Lawrence

Every year around this time, I feel drawn towards talking about sobriety and what's involved in being a non-drinker.
In past years I have spoken with well-known specialists such as Mandy Manners, Kate Bailey and Sober Dave, all of which provide deeper insight into becoming alcohol-free.
However, this year, and after many requests, I have decided to share a talk with my brother, Kris Lawrence, about our different perspectives on my sobriety. The purpose of this conversation was to offer insight, companionship, support and the challenging emotions surrounding sobriety so that anyone considering experiencing a dry January could take some motivation.
On a personal level, this conversation offered me some incredible insight into some of my more significant life events. I would be lying if I didn’t confess to feeling uncomfortably vulnerable about releasing this episode as I self-disclose a lot about some very personal moments of my life.
That is my hope for this episode is that my experience can offer a helpful perspective on your own experiences.
So please enjoy, relax and have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Highlights:
👉 When my relationship with alcohol started
👉 When did it start becoming a problem
👉 Why I believe I used alcohol as a coping mechanism for trauma
👉 Why I decided to go alcohol-free
👉 What have I gained from that decision

#49 Shining A Light On Homelessness with Amber Lights

In this episode, I’ll be chatting with the inspiring Amber Lights. Amber is the founder of Amber Lights in Oxford which was created in memory of her sister Hannah. Hannah was her big sister who never failed to make her laugh and was always there when she was struggling. From late 2015 through 2017, Hannah’s struggles saw her seek the help of multiple homeless charities within Oxfordshire including Homeless Oxfordshire. During this time, she sought comfort from the services they provided and began to rebuild her life. Sadly, Hannah passed away in 2017. In Hannah’s memory, Amber Lights in Oxford was set up to support Homeless Oxfordshire and the fantastic work they do. Homeless Oxfordshire is the largest supported accommodation provider for homeless people in Oxfordshire. Each night they accommodate over 200 people. Alongside this, they provide day services, hot food, clothing, toiletries and welfare facilities to over 550 individuals who access their services throughout the year. Today, Amber and I are discussing homelessness and the stigma, judgement and misunderstandings that surround this situation, which could honestly happen to anyone, at any time and for many reasons. Highlights: 👉 Amber shares hers and Hannah’s story 👉 Amber Lights in Oxford & Homeless Oxfordshire 👉 How a person can become homeless 👉 What support is available to a person experiencing homelessness 👉 Addiction & homelessness Links: Super Self Programme Amber Lights in Oxford Follow: @theselfdevelopmentcoach @theselfdevelopmentpodcast @amberlightsinoxford Brand New Twitter Charlie Currie produces The Self Development Podcast from Chatter Podcasts. #47 The Truth Will Set You Free with Josh Connolly

#47 The Truth Will Set You Free with Josh Connolly

Today I’ll be chatting with the one and only Josh Connolly. For Josh, December 2012 was the beginning of him seriously planning his suicide. Fast forward to December 2019 and he’s delivering resilience workshops to global organisations. Back then he believed that resilience was the ability to keep going no matter what, to avoid any struggle and show up.

That ideal drove him to a place where he felt the best thing to do for his children was to take his own life. Today, I have the pleasure of saying he has a new idea of resilience. One that is fluid, which allows him to struggle and ask for help. One that allows him to keep his head up and shoulders back despite his internal struggles. One that embraces vulnerability and keeps him reachable. One that helps him to understand what he feels, know what he needs as a result and be able to communicate that within his activities and relationships.

Rather than driving him to suicide, this idea of resilience has helped to deliver emotional resilience training to village primary schools and global brands alike. Josh doesn’t believe he’s a new person, he’s the same person, with the same emotions. The difference today lies within what he does with the energy of those emotions.

Highlights:

  • Josh’s experience with suicide
  • The evolution of belief systems
  • Resilence
  • Addiction
  • The difference between anger and rage
  • Forgiveness vs acceptance
  • The battle with ego
  • Emotional freedom

#46 A Journey Of Self Discovery with Adam Lind

#46 A Journey Of Self Discovery with Adam Lind

Today I’ll be chatting with Adam Lind. Adam is a mindset coach who helps both individuals & workplaces build resilience by teaching practical and accessible tools influenced by both western & eastern cultures.

Adam has always been drawn toward helping people, and after overcoming major adversities in his own life he was left entirely controlled by his mind & thoughts. A 6-year journey of travel, discovery & research has allowed him to harness a broad range of supported knowledge to help others combat stress, mindset & adversity.

He undertook a journey with his wife to travel from London – to Asia by land using only hitchhiking as their method of transport. They crossed 26 borders by land and placed their trust in the kindness of humans. They learnt invaluable lessons interacting with people from all walks of life whilst sitting in their cars.

Adam now lives full-time on a 59ft Narrowboat with his wife. They enjoy the primitive and dynamic nature that living on the British waterways entails and the nomadic sense of exploring the UK.

Highlights:

  • How to build resilience
  • What he learned from hitchhiking
  • The importance of mindset
  • Tools for improving mindset
  • Self-development secrets

#39 Cleaning Up Your Past with Dennis Simsek

In this episode of The Self Development Podcast, I’ll be chatting with author, podcaster, YouTuber and anxiety specialist, Dennis Simsek.

Dennis is widely known as The Anxiety Guy and had tried all the anxiety cures he could find to overcome his challenges with anxiety.

However, generalised anxiety turned to panic disorder and panic disorder turned to health anxiety and it wasn’t long until he decided to take matters into his own hands.

It was then that he took all that he had learned about anxiety and used it to reverse negative thinking patterns, reframe his childhood trauma and steer himself towards inner peace and now he uses these insights to help others do the same.

He’s the creator of the End The Anxiety Program,  author of Me Vs Myself, F**k Coping Start Healing and Beyond Anxiety. Dennis is also the host of ‘The Anxiety Guy Podcast’ which has over 4 million downloads and he also offers the anxiety guy YouTube channel that has over 10 million verified views.

Highlights:

  • A clear definition of anxiety and its causes
  • What people can do to overcome anxiety
  • The relationship between anxiety and trauma, belief systems and learned behaviour
  • How anxiety can develop feelings of being unsafe and a lack of self-trust
  • Overthinking
