208. Tales of The Jedi, Tales of The Empire, And Tales of Surviving Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace

May the 4th be with you! Socially Distanced celebrates all things Star Wars this week by getting the band back together!

That's right Al Mannarino returns to Socially Distanced after wandering the desert of Tatooine! You can also literally hear his heart break as he watches the Knicks lose to the 76ers during the podcast. On the episode, Al is joined by the host of the show -- "The Human Star Wars Encyclopedia" Amanda Rivas, Pop Break's editor-in-chief, and Jar Jar Binks enthusiast Ben Murchison.

On the episode they review The Phantom Menace, which celebrates its 25th Anniversary this week (and is being re-released in theaters). They discuss the positives of the film like Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor's performances, the novel idea of Samuel L. Jackson as a Jedi and more. However, they cannot deny how bad the script is, how poorly the film's VFX have aged, and the Jar Jar of it all.

In the pre-game segment they discuss the trailer for Tales of the Empire, review Tales of the Jedi, talk about their May the 4th plans and reveal their favorite pieces of Star Wars memorabilia and merch in their homes.

205. X-Men '97 Burns It All Down & Madam Webb Makes Us Want To

Yes, it's the Madame Web episode of Socially Distanced, so pack your party bags people it's gonna be a large one.

Bill  Bodkin is in the host chair to discuss this cinematic classic that was just in theaters two weeks ago and is now on VOD...at a discounted price. Bill is joined by "The Human Star Wars Encyclopedia" Amanda Rivas, as well as the hosts of Not Couple Goals -- "The Magical Lad" Tyler McCarthy and "The First Queen of Thirst" Allie Nelson.

This conversation becomes completely unhinged at times as they try to figure out how Madame Web was made, what anyone was thinking on every level of production, why Cassie Web absolutely sucks, why the villain is completely ADR'ed and has no real motivation, how the film squanders it's talented triumvirate of teens, how Adam Scott feels like the only human in the film, and the insult this movie does to Spider-man.

Luckily, in the pre-game segment they talk about the amazing X-Men '97 episode and more importantly the mid-season trailer for the season and the big reveal that came at the end. They discuss how time travel, The Avengers, the multiverse and Deadpool could all factor into the series.

181. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Halloween Special + Netflix Prices Skyrocket

181. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Halloween Special + Netflix Prices Skyrocket

It's time for the annual Socially Distanced Halloween Episode! This spooky season we're going to talk about all things Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- the TV series, not the Kristy Swanson movie (although that does get brought up!)

We've assembled our own version of the Scooby gang to discuss the iconic series. Pop Break's editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin is in the host seat and is joined by co-host "The Human Star Wars Encyclopedia" Amanda Rivas and special guests "The Commander of Our Hearts" Ben Murchison, Allie Nelson of the Not Couple Goals Podcast and Pop Break Original (and producer of Mutilator 2) Ann Hale.

The gang discuss their history with Buffy and why the show means so much to all of them. They discuss their favorite episodes, the characters they hated the most, the best member of Buffy's team, the most heartbreaking episode and in honor of Allie -- the character we thirst(ed) for the most. They then do a review of the seminal Buffy episode "Hush" and debate whether the episode still holds up, how creepy the Gentlemen are and if this is the definitive Buffy episode.

In the pre-game segment they discuss Netflix's decision to raise rates again. They wonder if this is all a ploy to drive people to their ad supported tier or is it hubris by the company because it seems that they've been bulletproof to crackdowns and rate increases. They also talk about the lack of content coming Netflix's way, the end of way too many tentpole series and the irony of their record stock price but their issues with SAG-AFTRA's demands.
