The Suicide Chronicles: Conversations

The Suicide Chronicles: Conversations

By Heart of Glass

The Suicide Chronicles is a long term artistic project led by Mark Storor, exploring how we might collectively create a language to share our experiences of suicide. We have recorded a series of conversations with the people who have made The Suicide Chronicles with Mark as a way to share the project and to provide a window into the discussions and experiences of the collaborative team who make the work. These conversations are hosted by Angela Samata and create a space for reflecting upon the processes and journeys behind the Chronicles.

The Suicide Chronicles is a project led by artist Mark Storor made with people whose lives have been affected by suicide. Each Chronicle takes focus on one individual story or one particular aspect of suicide and seeks to articulate this experience as a film. These conversations have been recorded with the people who made these films with Mark as a way of providing additional depth and context to their work.

Angela and Mark

Angela Samata meets with Mark Storor, the artist behind The Suicide Chronicles project. In this conversation, the pair discuss how this project began as an artistic questioning of civilisation (our most brutal act of barbarism?) and evolved into a body of work through which personal experiences of suicide can be articulated truthfully.

Mark is an artist who specialises in platforming the voices of those we all too rarely choose to hear. He usually works over several years to create extraordinarily beautiful and uplifting work in which community participants and professionals work side by side in genuine partnership. Mark is currently working with Heart of Glass on a twelve year project called Baa Baa Baric, Have you any pull? and over the past four years of this work he’s been focused on The Suicide Chronicles, which seeks to develop a collective and creative language for the complex experience of suicide.

Angela Samata is a mental health campaigner working in the fields of suicide prevention and postvention. She is a consultant on the Suicide Chronicles project and has also contributed to this project as a participant.
