Our first church service in this new social distancing reality we find ourselves in. Recorded at Pleasant Valley with just a few people and mostly unplugged except one microphone. There are two versions of this episode. This one contains the entire service, including worship. The other will contain only the message.

The title of my message this week is "Your Gospel is Too Small." I'll be discussing how we sometimes misunderstand the gospel of Jesus to be about saving "souls" rather than something more all-encompassing and wholistic.
Now, this language of the oppressed brings up a key question. Who are the oppressors and what is our relationship to them? Thus, the title of my message tonight is The Oppressed & The Oppressors. I’d like to begin with this Scripture from the book of Proverbs.
“There are those who are pure in their own eyes but are not cleansed of their filth.” — Prov. 30:12
Unpacking a few of the common ideas that prevent Christians from being on the side of the poor and oppressed, namely the ideas that Christianity is only a private, inward, and personal affair. As opposed to a public, outward, and political faith.
The title of our message this week is A Religion of Joy. Brett unpacks how the center of Christian faith is found in the announcement of the angel to the shepherds in Luke 2, "I bring you good news of great joy." That good news is that Jesus is the human face of God to us, and that's a truth that should fill us with joy.
Continuing our series on values, Brett talks about our desire to be a radically inclusive community. As you will notice we have some technical challenges on sound quality. Many apologies! We are working to clean this up for future episodes.
