Judgement: A True Awakening

Judgement: A True Awakening

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I am joined by author and artist Monica Bodirsky. Together we traverse the world of Judgement and explore how powerful language can be when it comes to tarot and the importance of using our *discretion* when it comes to not only how we interpret the cards, but also the words, meanings, and associations we assign to them.

Monica Bodirsky is an artist, author, and professional consultant whose specialty is tarot. Her innovative approach empowers individuals by creating work that builds bridges to unseen realms where connections to self, ancestral wisdom, and the environment are cultivated.

She is the author and artist of seven tarot, oracle and Lenormand decks and guidebooks including the bestselling Shadowland Tarot (Red Feather Mind, Body and Spirit) and the recently released Awakening Tarot: An Elemental Approach.

As the founder of WITCHfest North Arts and Culture Festival, she is an advocate of community and capacity building and a sought-after speaker at several annual international, metaphysical and divination conferences.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Design, she taught at OCAD University for ten years and currently holds multidisciplinary art and spirituality residencies in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Shadow Work with Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung

Shadow Work with Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I invite you to step into the transformative practice of Shadow Work, guided by the symbolism of The Sun card. Unpacking the teachings of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, I explore how the shadow encompasses suppressed fears, desires, and insecurities within us. Contrary to common misconceptions, the shadow isn't inherently dark; it also encompasses lighter aspects we've pushed aside. Shadow Work involves bravely bringing these hidden aspects into the light for personal growth and healing.

I highlight the importance of ongoing self-reflection and dispel the notion that Shadow Work is a quick fix. Drawing parallels with Freud's id, ego, and superego, I offer insights into understanding these concepts for a deeper exploration of the shadow self.

Tune in as I introduce a tarot spread inspired by Freud's theories, designed to aid in navigating the complexities of shadow work. I invite you to join me on this journey of self-discovery, as I pull cards to a meaty shadow work spread and work to uncover the transformative power of integrating our shadows to embrace authenticity and promote liberation.

The Moon: The intersection of Astrology & Tarot

The Moon: The intersection of Astrology & Tarot

This week’s episode is a break from tarot heavy content and instead taking a step into the world of astrology – specifically the role of the moon and our moon sign.

I’m joined by astrologer and psychic medium Alexander Kriech who shares his wisdom and experience with us and guides us through the importance of the moon and what it means for each of us.

Alex sheds light on how the moon can represent more than repression, shadows, and deep emotions – but also our relationship with our mother. So, this episode is timely on the heels of the “Healing the Mother Wound” episode.

Alexander Kriech an Astrologer and Psychic Medium located in Denver, Colorado. He has been working professionally in the spirituality field since 2015.

He is passionate about helping you get clarity, insight, and healing with his no-B.S. approach and practical, grounded energy.

When he's not staring at the night sky or recording a podcast, I can usually be found playing Dungeons and Dragons, hiking and enjoying nature, at a Drag show, or taking a nap with his cats.

You can out more about my work at his website www.dogstaroracle.com, or connect with him on TikTok and Instagram at @DogStarOracle.

Healing the Mother Wound

Healing the Mother Wound

It is so nice to be back recording some episodes. This has been a weird month for me - you probably noticed episodes have been inconsistent and I’ve been rather quiet on social media. Unfortunately, I was insanely sick for nearly three weeks, but I’m finally coming out the other side and experiencing some glimpses of energy again.

This week, I explore generational trauma, focusing on the Mother Wound. I discuss how trauma can impact us unintentionally and through the concept of epigenetics. Using The Star archetype, I navigate hope, resilience, and healing in strained parental relationships, drawing from my own experiences.

I examine four avenues of the mother wound, represented by the reversed queens. To heal, I advocate for self-compassion and inner child work, aligning The Star with each reversed queen and their corresponding page. I touch on how acknowledging societal factors in motherhood and advocating for breaking the cycle of inherited trauma is vital if we’re going to heal the mother wound.

My hope is this episode brings you clarity and comfort.

The Perfectionist's Paradox: Exploring Overcontrol with RO-DBT & Tarot

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I am joined by fellow therapist Emilea Richardson from Sparrow Therapy and we work to navigate the intricate terrain of perfectionism and overcontrol, while discussing how Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) and tarot insights can illuminate our path towards greater self-acceptance and authentic living. Remember, the journey towards embracing imperfection and letting go is not about achieving perfection but about finding harmony amidst life's challenges.

Throughout this episode, Emilea touches on how her Evangelical history informs her practice as a psychotherapist and tarot enthusiast as well. You can learn more about her work on Instagram.

Coping with Tower Moments

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we’re holding space for Tower moments. I explore the concept of coping with Tower moments - tips to process your own Tower moments and how to support others who may be experiencing a difficult time.

Listeners will get a glimpse into what it’s like using tarot with a therapy client as I share a real therapeutic example of using my “Coping with Tower Moments” spread in session with a client.

Throughout the episode, I explore the ways the Nine of Swords, Five of Cups, and the Death card show up during Tower moments.

Tarot & Attachment Styles

Tarot & Attachment Styles

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m exploring the world of Attachment Theory through the lens of tarot!

I start off anchoring us with The Devil archetype and then lead us on a journey into Anxious, Avoidant, Disorganized, and Secure attachment styles. To explore these concepts, I spend time working with The Moon, Nine of Swords, Four of Cups, Eight of Cups, Queen of Swords, Two of Cups, Six of Pentacles and then the Six, Seven, Eight, and Nine of Wands. So, it’s a very card heavy episode!

Please keep in mind this is a general, introductory overview of different attachment styles. There is so much depth and reasoning that goes into why we lean more towards one style over another, which I will explore in future episodes.

Terrible Tarot: A Conversation with Annie Buell

Terrible Tarot: A Conversation with Annie Buell

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m stepping into the world of social media tarot readers with Annie Buell aka Moonlight Medium who you might know from TikTok (check them out here).

We’ve all been scrolling and come across some questionable readings before. Annie was noticing an alarming amount of these on TikTok and started two series to help educate folks on “Terrible Tarot” and “Trustworthy Tarot.”

Together we get real about social media tarot readings, exploring peoples’ intentions, how to spot red AND green flags, as well as the importance of autonomy and knowing if you’re in the right mental and emotional space to be receiving messages from folks on social media.

Don’t worry - there is plenty of laughter and even a few moments of reminiscing on the old “chain email” and “MySpace bulletin” days! Remember those? *cringe*

Eventually Annie and I start pulling cards and the messages and interpretations of tarot do not hold back.

I can’t wait for you all to listen in!

The Psychology of Temperance & Strength

The Psychology of Temperance & Strength

Welcome back to a new year of The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast! This week I’m exploring the symbolism of the Temperance archetype while also finding where it intersects with the Strength card - as it’s the card of 2024.

Throughout the episode, I draw parallels between Temperance and psychological concepts like self-regulation, radical acceptance, and change, which we see in therapeutic modalities such as ACT and DBT. I discover that rather than merely advocating for balance, Temperance emphasizes the integration of conflicting emotions and thoughts to achieve inner harmony.

Eventually this leads to a discussion on the implications of the Strength card, highlighting the importance of self-compassion and navigating the both/and space rather than falling into if/then thinking.

Death and Transformation

Death and Transformation

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m pulling cards and offering a raw and vulnerable glimpse into what this last year has been like personally and professionally. From surgery, to a farewell - I touch on everything that has made this year what it was through the lens of Death as our anchor.

The World, 8 of Cups, and King of Pentacles emerge first as reflections of the year and have me reflecting on the departure of my former co-host. Then the Wheel of Fortune, Two of Swords, and Three of Cups arrive to help me explore the energy of 2024. These cards get me thinking about the beginnings and endings of relationships (both with ourselves and others) and leave me wondering what relationships need to be tended to and which relationships may have run their course.

I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your endless support and encouragement this past year. It wasn’t the easiest year, but it was wildly fulfilling in so many ways.

So, I invite you to pull cards alongside me as I reflect on 2023 and then look forward to 2024.

Leaving the Church & Finding Tarot

Leaving the Church & Finding Tarot

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m joined by Cami Ostman - a former Internal Family Systems therapist who has journeyed away from organized religion, into tarot and therapy, and now into storytelling.

Cami vulnerably explores her experience of entering and exiting a fundamental religion, how pivotal tarot has been in her personal healing journey, and how she has transitioned from one healing profession into another.

Throughout the episode, we talk about Eight of Wands, Ten of Pentacles, Page of Swords, Ten of Cups, Six of Swords, and The Magician. Even now, writing out those cards I feel like they make such perfect sense for this conversation on the different versions of ourselves and the various lives we will inevitably live.

The Cards You're Dealt: A Conversation with Theresa Reed aka The Tarot Lady

The Cards You're Dealt: A Conversation with Theresa Reed aka The Tarot Lady

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, Theresa Reed (aka @thetarotlady) joins me to discuss life’s most difficult moments and her new latest book “The Cards You’re Dealt - How To Deal When Life Gets Real.” Our conversation explores grief, loss, tragedy, and the role tarot can play in helping us to navigate life's difficulties.

Theresa and I touch on societal pressures, why we often neglect certain types of grief beyond death, and we challenge toxic positivity and our societal discomfort with acknowledging mortality. We spend some time discussing the importance of breaking the silence around unrecognized grief and the significance of creating space for open conversations.

We open the episode with the Seven of Swords and Two of Wands, and Theresa makes a powerful connection between our two cards.

Theresa's book, "The Cards You're Dealt," is praised for its acknowledgment of various forms of grief experienced in everyday life, not just related to death. It emphasizes the need for curiosity about our emotions and internal worlds, allowing individuals to navigate unexpected waves of grief more effectively - all with the help of tarot.

Logic & Magic: Finding Harmony in Opposition

Logic & Magic: Finding Harmony in Opposition

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I tackle a topic I think many of you have pondered yourselves. How do we find harmony while we’re rooted in logic, but long for magic?

A Symposium member reached out to me recently and posed an insightful question. I had already planned on doing some work with The Hanged Man this week, and I felt her question paired so well with that anchor.

I begin the episode by exploring the concept of logic and magic through the lens of The Hanged Man. Then The Hierophant, Hermit, and Ace of Cups all make their presence known. I spend quite a bit of time talking about Dialectical Behavior Therapy and dialectical thought and how that seems to be the most appropriate avenue for finding harmony in opposition.

The question asked is below:

“Hello! I have a question and I think it is a difficult one, but I do not know who I can talk with. In general there are two sides inside of me. I believe in logic. I understand how Tarot cards and horoscopes are working from the psychological side. I know deeply why I am using them and how it helps.

But there is also another side of me who is really interested in all the spiritual things. About mystery and energy flow. And it is more about chaos theory and that everything has meaning. And this part makes me believe in all "magic" things.

So my question - how do you manage these two sides and have a clear mind for decisions?”

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this!

The Psychology of Money with Mimi Cirbusova

The Psychology of Money with Mimi Cirbusova

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, Mimi Cirbusova joins me to explore the personal stories and baggage we carry around about money and personal finances.

Mimi is brilliant at taking a topic often dominated by shame and infusing it with compassion and understanding. We use tarot to help us explore our money scripts (take the quiz here), find out what experiences contribute to our money stories, discuss how to regain a sense of financial power when you’re feeling anxious and overwhelmed.

I’m surprised and not surprised that we both somehow pull all of the cups for this episode…but it makes sense. Money is such a delicate topic that often brings up a ton of emotions and discomfort. Let us know if you ended up pulling cups alongside of us too!

Mimi will be hosting an exclusive workshop on the same topic inside The Symposium this month AND we will be LIVE on Instagram on Thursday Nov. 9th at 6pm ET. So come hang out with us!

Justice & Cognitive Dissonance

Justice & Cognitive Dissonance

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I have an epiphany about the Justice card. You’ll hear me realize why this card has always frightened me, made me squirm, and want to shove it back in the deck (or in the trash) and pull again. It was such a profound moment, even my partner was like… “Oh sh*t!”

I tackle the psychological concept of cognitive dissonance and somehow explore Temperance, Five of Swords, Seven of Wands, Nine of Wands, Queen of Swords, and The Fool all within a relatively short amount of time.

Side note: Thank you all for making this space encouraging, safe, and uplifting so that I knew it would be okay to share my own personal experience with this card so publicly.

The Reality of The Wheel of Fortune: A conversation with Sarah Thibault

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, join me for a candid and personal conversation about the Wheel of Fortune and how we can humanize an often elusive, or superficial archetype. Sarah Thibault, host of The Side Woo podcast joins me and together we talk about how we can reclaim the Wheel of Fortune by viewing it through the lens of power and control, karma, comparison, radical acceptance, and ritual. Yes - all of that. And somehow it all works.

We also explore traditional and modern depictions of this archetype while exploring how the images pertain to modern emotional and psychological experiences - like navigating the social media algorithm and not losing our inherent sense of value in the process.

Healing Anxiety with Horror: A Conversation with Candis Green

Healing Anxiety with Horror: A Conversation with Candis Green

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I’m talking to one of the coolest therapists in Canada! Candis Green from Many Moons Therapy joins me to explore the unconventional coping methods of horror for healing anxiety and regulating our nervous system.

We explore the spectrum of horror, how it can help us learn to regulate our nervous systems, discuss what the window of tolerance is, and somehow pull cards in the process. This was such a fun conversation full of valuable insight into how tarot archetypes relate to anxiety and coping with anxiety, and also unexpecting ways spooky media can actually help us heal.

Throughout the episode the Three of Cups, Nine of Cups, Queen of Cups (omg so many cups), Temperance, and The Magician make an appearance.

Using Tarot to Find Yourself

Using Tarot to Find Yourself

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I get personal as I explore the concept of the core self through the archetype of The Hermit and the Internal Family Systems model.

I had a great conversation with a listener recently who shared that she was listening to This Jungian Life Podcast when they spoke about how the first 50 years of our life is about finding our place in the world, and the next 50 is about finding our place within ourselves. This was deeply profound for me because I feel like I'm somehow straddling both of these experiences right now.

So, I dive into the archetype of The Hermit and explore how it relates to accessing our true, core Self. I talk about the 8 C's of the Self as coined by the Internal Family Systems model and pull SO MANY CARDS!

Along with The Hermit I explore, Two of Wands, Page of Wands, Death, Page of Cups, Temperance, Queen of Swords, Three of Cups, and the Queen of Pentacles.

This is one of my favorite episodes to date!

Revealing The Shadow: A Conversation with Thomas Witholt

Revealing The Shadow: A Conversation with Thomas Witholt

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I sit down with Thomas Witholt from Hermit's Mirror to create a space for us to unravel aspects of the shadow self - specifically as it relates to difficult emotions such as anger and fear.

Thomas brings in a Jungian and Buddhist approach to the shadow that helps to soften the edges on a topic that most of us find so uncomfortable.

We start off by exploring emotional power dynamics of the shadow and the concept of reparenting and building self-compassion through The Emperor, The Empress, the Six of Cups and The Lovers

Tarot eventually leads us into a discussion on anger through the archetype of the Knight of Swords and the King of Wands reversed. We discuss how anger can emerge as reactivity, or stem from unmet needs, feeling a sense of injustice, or a boundary violation. Thomas also beautifully discusses the elemental components of the cards and how it relates to the importance of self-reflection.

I invite you to pull cards alongside us and allow your shadow self to join the conversation to explore when it emerges and what to do when it does.

Healing from Betrayal: How Do We Trust Again & Repair?

Healing from Betrayal: How Do We Trust Again & Repair?

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, the difficult topic of betrayal and the arduous process of learning to trust again is explored through the anchors of Strength and The Empress reversed.

I explore the pain and fear associated with infidelity, including abandonment wounds, rejection, and scarcity. The cards help guide me towards a discussion on repairing trust, what that can look like and how to be realistic about the non-linear process of repair after betrayal.

It seems like all the folks I admire get brought up in this episode with quotes from Esther Perel, Pema Chodron, Andrew Huberman, and others. I even get nerdy for a minute and talk about the neuroscience behind betrayal.

The Seven of Wands, Ace of Wands, and Four of Swords help us walk into the world of repair after a betrayal and keep us grounded, but also create space for hope for the future.

Understanding Trauma: A Discussion on PTSD, C-PTSD, & Generational Trauma

Understanding Trauma: A Discussion on PTSD, C-PTSD, & Generational Trauma

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I spend time talking about some of the nuances of trauma including PTSD, C-PTSD, and generational trauma through the lens of The Chariot, Nine of Wands, Nine of Cups, Ten of Cups, and Three of Pentacles.

I surprise myself with the depth and connection between the archetype of, and symbolism within, The Chariot. As I pull additional cards throughout the episode, I explore  what it is like to live with, cope with, and seek to heal trauma.

Topics of hypervigilance, suspicion, somatic effects, and behavioral patterns are touched on throughout.

Please note - this episode is just a brief overview of the topic of trauma and I plan to spend time diving into more specific components in future episodes.

The Alchemy of Language

The Alchemy of Language

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I sit down with Erin Jones, the owner of Hermit and The Moon, to explore the power, nuance, and healing properties of language.

This conversation was inspired by a meetup in The Symposium a while back where Erin challenged the use of the phrase “stalker card” and changed the way I view repeating cards. This got me thinking about the language used within and about tarot, so naturally I invited her to explore this with me on the podcast.

Erin and I invite you to join us while we pull cards and discuss the modern and traditional language used, the personal and societal effect that language has on us, and how we can step into a trauma-informed space when it comes to the alchemy of language and tarot.

Parts Work & Integration: Working with The Lovers & The Aces

Parts Work & Integration: Working with The Lovers & The Aces

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I spend time reflecting on personal identity and parts work. I’ve been seeing a lot of folks in my therapy practice who are feeling disconnected from themselves and others and we’ve found that it stems from a disconnection from our multiple parts and identities. We often grab a hold of one identity (e.g. mother, therapist, tarot reader, etc.) and we forget that we are so much more than that because the other parts and identities feel at odds with the one we’ve brought to the forefront.

So, I take a look at the role The Lovers plays in this dilemma while also creating a system of working with the Ace’s to help us further explore, define, and integrate all of our parts and identities in order to decrease feelings of disconnection, depression, and anxiety.

Tarot & Business

Tarot & Business

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I sit down with *gasp* my accountant. But this isn’t your average boring financial conversation. Tony Cola and I sit down to explore the ups, downs, nuances, and celebrations of being a business owner (or having a side hustle).

We open the episode with the Three of Pentacles, which immediately has us talking about how important the beginning phases of starting a business are, in addition to the internal and external team you create. The Ten of Wands, Six of Wands, and Four of Wands also make an appearance, which guide us into the world of burnout and a discussion on the challenges entrepreneurs face and the impact it can have on our mental health.

But, of course we somehow are graced with the Six and Four of Wands where we get to explore both the reality of failure and how it inevitably leads to success.

As I pull cards, we work to find the real-life, practical applications of the archetypes' wisdom. Tony goes above and beyond mere number-crunching by offering clients encouraging and empathetic support and guidance as they embark on their journey as an entrepreneur and business owner, which is exactly the energy he brings to this episode.

Starting and running a business can be scary and overwhelming, but our hope is this episode empowers you to do the scary thing anyway!

Reimagining The Hierophant

Reimagining The Hierophant

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I step into the profound world of The Hierophant in order to expose the complexity of history, culture, and spirituality that carries both pain and hope within this archetype. By navigating this card’s inherent duality, I am able to explore the challenges it poses in today's world where rigid traditions often clash with our modern values.

Join me as I dissect this archetype's call to embrace beliefs, its symbolism of wisdom-seeking and its shadow of superiority. The Ace of Cups and Two of Pentacles make a surprising appearance as they help me better understand the delicate balance between conformity and authenticity.

Throughout this episode, The Hierophant reveals its powerful healing potential of mentorship, collective growth, and the value of humility and diversity in our journey toward personal and societal evolution.

Tarot & Storytelling

Tarot & Storytelling

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I sit down with author, storyteller, and tarot enthusiast Amanda “Mandy” Hughes from @HaintblueCreative. We explore the inherent narrative quality of the cards, and how we can utilize them for our own creativity. Plus, Mandy walks us through a narrative read of the cards and shares her Tarot Story Arc spread for storytelling.

This was so fun to experience - even if you’re not a storyteller. I found myself developing new insights with the cards by reading them as a plot to a fictional story versus personal insight. So, if you’re a writer, creative, or just looking for a fun way to mix up your tarot practice, join us for Tarot & Storytelling!

Redefining The Emperor

Redefining The Emperor

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I explore why The Emperor is one of the most contentious cards in the tarot (along with The Hierophant, but that's for a later episode). I’ve long had a distant and detached relationship with this card until recently. Join me as I spend time unraveling this archetype’s shadow in order to reveal its light - which we don’t often allow to shine.

Throughout this episode, I rely heavily on the Somnia Tarot depiction of The Emperor, because it is hauntingly beautiful and masterfully showcases both the rigidly stoic shadow energy of this archetype, as well as the often lonely, burdened, personal responsibility to care and lead that often gets dismissed.

The Tarot Ultimatum {A Conversation with Sam & Aussie from Netflix's "The Ultimatum: Queer Love"}

The Tarot Ultimatum {A Conversation with Sam & Aussie from Netflix's "The Ultimatum: Queer Love"}

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I had the opportunity to sit down with Sam and Aussie, a couple and castmates from the Netflix hit show "The Ultimatum: Queer Love," which debuted in May 2023 and follows five couples who disagree over whether or not they’re ready to get married. This might seem like a departure from my typical content, but Sam is actually a tarot reader and both she and Aussie infuse Tarot and mental health advocacy into their daily lives and into their relationship. I’m so grateful to Sam and Aussie for getting vulnerable with me and opening up about how profoundly healing tarot has been on an individual and relational level, both on and off Netflix.

We talk about everything from self-awareness, healthy communication, to intention setting and manifestation while pulling cards, of course. Judgement, Two of Pentacles, Six of Wands, Seven of Wands, and even a few oracle cards make an appearance throughout our conversation.

Sam and Aussie are two of the warmest, humble, and welcoming humans I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to. There are so many wonderful nuggets of wisdom and comfort throughout this conversation. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Reclaiming Your Body Narrative

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I sit down with a body positive photographer and content creator who’s on a mission to help folks learn to love their body. Ashley Fenison and I get really vulnerable talking about existing in a fat body, how to develop a relationship with a body that society is always telling us to hate, and how to comfort our wounded inner child.

We open the episode with the Ace of Swords (swords won’t leave me alone y’all) and The Universe (The World). This prompts a discussion on societal messaging and societal codependence, which then leads us into exploring the Three of Pentacles, Six of Wands, Eight of Swords, and The Fool.

The Psychology of Manifestation with The Empress

The Psychology of Manifestation with The Empress

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I celebrate the 100th episode of the podcast by exploring the idea of manifestation, the psychology behind it, and the connection of this experience to The Empress. I spend some time hanging out at the intersection of manifestation and privilege and talk about the role The Empress plays within this space.

The Hierophant helps us open the conversation, which I then quickly pair with The Empress - creating a fascinating pathway of thought and reflection where I suggest that we reimagine The Hierophant as the manifestation card. The Eight of Pentacles also invites itself into the conversation to bring awareness to the importance of being grounded in realistic goal setting, dedication, and hard work.

The High Priestess & The Paradox of Growth and Change

The High Priestess & The Paradox of Growth and Change

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I find myself sharing personal musings on the paradox of growth and change.

I shed light on how so many of us seem to be experiencing significant changes right now. I went back and forth between a few ideas for this week’s episode, but I kept landing on how paradoxical growth and change is. On one hand it can bring us so much joy and fulfillment, yet on the other hand it can be wrought with pain and discomfort.
I use this opportunity to reflect on the archetype of The High Priestess and explore the card’s inherent duality and own paradoxical nature. I also find myself inviting in the energy of the Six of Swords and then the cards challenge me a bit when I pull the Nine of Cups. The Five of Cups and The Fool stop by for a moment as well.

Tarot & Parts Work: The Intersection of Internal Family Systems, Jungian Psychology, & Tarot

Tarot & Parts Work: The Intersection of Internal Family Systems, Jungian Psychology, & Tarot

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I guide us to the tarot intersection of Internal Family Systems and Carl Jung's process of individuation.

I have been deep in the world of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Jungian Depth Psychology the last few months - so, it’s not surprising that the theme for this week’s episode centers around both of these concepts.

In fact, the workshop in The Symposium this month (Working with The Swords) is also heavily influenced and inspired by IFS and Jungian concepts. If you’re already a Symposium member, this episode is a great primer for the upcoming workshop on June 15th.

In this episode, we explore and pull cards for different parts of ourselves such as the exile, the firefighter, and the manager, while also weaving in Jung's theory of the Self, the persona, and the shadow. I unexpectedly share a personal example of an exile through the lens of the Eight of Swords, and then we process the Eight of Cups and The Lovers. There's also a focus on how The High Priestess is an accurate archetype of the Self.

Let me know what cards show up for you as you pull alongside me!

Beyond the Self {Exploring The Magician with Nick Kepley}

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, Nick Kepley from the In Search of Tarot podcast joins me as my very first guest post podcast shake up! We get nerdy about the importance of looking beyond the self, through the lens of The Magician. We peel back the layers of the card's overt and covert symbolism, while also exploring what it means to step outside of the binary, or all or nothing thinking, and into a state of liminality or “formlessness." We touch on the Six of Pentacles, The World, and The Wheel of Fortune, while we work to figure out why The Magician appears insular when the magic they create exists because of what’s outside of, or beyond, them.

Cultivating Resilience with The Fool

Cultivating Resilience with The Fool

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I open up about my surface-level relationship with The Fool and the journey I took in search of depth and meaning. It was during this month-long journey that I started to apply various psychological principles to the first card in the Major Arcana – like the theory of attachment, the experience of anxiety, and the liminality of identity development.

However, it wasn’t until the recent changes with the podcast that I started to assign the word “Resilient” to The Fool. So, I dove back into my reflections and realized this card, that often feels so shallow, might actually be the wisest and most resilient card in the whole Tarot.

*This episode was influenced and inspired by the work of Yoav Ben-Dov, Rachel Anne Williams, the Buddhist principle of non-attachment, attachment theory, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.*

Processing a Farewell: Exploring Luna's Departure from The Tarot Diagnosis

Processing a Farewell: Exploring Luna's Departure from The Tarot Diagnosis

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I explore the pain and confusion inherent within an abrupt farewell and speak candidly about my former co-host’s departure and what my vision for the future of The Tarot Diagnosis is - all while pulling cards of course. I have a lot of conflicting thoughts and feelings about this episode, but I think it's a necessary part of the process. Join me as I explore my own experience with this sudden change through the lens of the Two of Wands, Five of Swords, Nine of Swords, and Ten of Pentacles. Spoiler: The future of TTD is going to include lots of nerdy deep dives into cards, guest appearances, and conversations with folks from all walks of life.

As always, you’re invited to tag along for what’s most definitely going to be quite an adventure.

Tarot for Dream Work: An interview with Jordan Hale

Tarot for Dream Work: An interview with Jordan Hale

After a brief hiatus, we are back with a new episode and a GUEST! Jordan Hale joins us this week to explore the magical world of dreams and how to incorporate tarot into a dreamwork practice. Jordan is a psychotherapist, writer, and performer. She hosts her own podcast called Psyche Magic, where she interviews artists and healers about working with the subconscious - via dreams, tarot, and spiritualism.  She is passionate about exploring the power of these various shadow work practices for deepening self-awareness, cultivating interconnection, and nurturing creativity.

Get ready to take notes to expand your own experience with dreams. Jordan gives us tons of practice advice and exercises on how to engage with, interpret, and process our dreams.

Jordan is also hosting a workshop inside The Symposium this month. If you’d like to catch this live, or have access to the recording afterwards, there’s still time to become a member. Join here!

Managing Intrusive Thoughts

Managing Intrusive Thoughts

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we talk about the extremely common, but very uncomfortable topic of intrusive thoughts.

We all have them from time to time. Sometimes it’s easy to brush them off, and sometimes they can be deeply disturbing. It seemed only right for us to talk about the nature of these thoughts, and what we can do to help manage them.

King of Cups and The Lovers opens the conversation for us and leads us on several different noteworthy paths. Join us as we explore this shadowy world of our own minds and gain a greater understanding of ourselves and of tarot.

Reality vs Fantasy: A Bug Juice Story

Reality vs Fantasy: A Bug Juice Story

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we explore the intersection of fantasy and reality - where daydreams meet the realities of lived experience.

True story: in 1997 Luna took a job working at a summer camp where a reality show called Bug Juice was being filmed and featured Luna as one of the camp counselors. The show aired on The Disney Channel and developed a pretty big following. Every once in a while, the show remerges on social media. Lately, it’s been on TikTok – which prompted us to explore the intersection of reality and fantasy.

From Three of Swords to The Fool, tarot helps guide us as we explore the health benefits of daydreaming and fantasy and also the realities and pitfalls of getting lost in that space.

Join us for this unique conversation about the need for fantasy and daydreaming, how it serves us and how it can hurt us - while also exploring the reality of the experiences of those who can inspire the dreams (and how that experience isn’t always magical).

Self-Worth

Self-Worth

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we take a philosophical journey through the often elusive world of Self-Worth.

We explore the various factors that can contribute to our sense of self-worth, as well as the challenges that can arise when our sense of self-worth is compromised.

People will talk about self worth (and its first cousin, self esteem) all the time. It’s hard to spend 10 minutes on social media without having someone say something about it. The problem is, most of us have always struggled at least a little bit with having good self worth - and very few people talk about what that is, and more importantly, what to do with that.

We begin our journey with the Eight of Swords and Seven of Pentacles as we explore the tension between feeling trapped and acknowledging our accomplishments. We then invite in the energies of The Magician and Two of Cups, Strength, The Hermit, and The World while we talk about how our past impacts our personal narrative and what we can do to change that.

Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we explore an often universal phenomenon that so many of you have asked us to talk about: Imposter Syndrome.

Imposter Syndrome is a phrase that gets thrown around lot in our world, but what does it really mean? And - if it’s something we struggle with, what can we do about it?

We have a remarkable start to the episode as we both pull a Page - which sets the tone for our exploration into the wide and wild world of imposter syndrome. The truth is, we can all experience imposter syndrome, but it can come from very different places and needs to be tended to in a variety of ways. While the experience is universal, the root is often very personal.

Join us while we dive into the internal world of imposter syndrome through the eyes of Pages, and also spend some quality time with the Nine of Swords, Three of Cups, Three of Pentacles, Ace of Cups, and Two of Wands.

Stuck in a Rut

Stuck in a Rut

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we get real on a topic that we’ve been noticing personally, professionally, and within the greater tarot community - feeling Stuck in a Rut.

It’s a normal part of our human experience to feel stuck and like every day is the same and to wish we felt more inspired and engaged. But just because it’s normal, doesn’t mean it feels good.

First cards of the episode don’t hold back: Death, Three of Swords and Four of Cups. Oof, but accurate. And from there, we go all out - talking about what this experience feels like, why we land in it, what makes it so hard to crawl out of, and most importantly, how we can do just that.

Come listen in, while we journey from Five of Pentacle to The Hanged Man and from Nine of Wands to The World. This is an episode you’re going to want to go back and listen to again and again.

Decks used: Scorpio Sea and The Wandering Star

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we finally get around to tackling a topic that we all can relate to… procrastination.

Inspired by a question from a listener, the cards guide us through an enlightening conversation about exploring the roots of procrastination. From Three of Wands to Death, Queen of Wands, Page of Wands, Knight of Swords, and Three of Pentacles, we dive deep into emotional awareness, neurodiversity, rebellion and the importance of compassion and companionship.

Allowing Ourselves to Be Seen

Allowing Ourselves to Be Seen

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we began with a phrase that we fell in love with: Letting Ourselves be Seen.

And, as is always true when we pick an idea based on a title- we had no idea where this topic would take us. Because let’s be honest- it could have gone a lot of different ways.

We began with Eight of Wands and Four of Pentacles, then we visited with Two of Pentacles, Nine of Swords, Five of Wands, all of the Pages (of course) and all of the Threes.

If you love a good conversation about the intersection of tarot and mental health - this is the episode for you, because when we explore what it means to let ourselves be seen we really are exploring how we learn to see, accept, and respect ourselves.

Relationship Ruptures

Relationship Ruptures

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we are exploring Relationship Ruptures, where we peek inside the inner workings of how fractures and upset happens in relationships and what we can do to both prevent and mend them.

What’s unique about this episode is that we take you farther behind the scenes than we ever have and talk about a recent rupture we had between the two of us. We decide to use the experience as a model - both for how things can go wrong, and how to make them right.

We start with Three of Wands and Knight of Pentacles, which really drives the episode. We also spend some time with the Queens, The Star, Tower, and Judgement as we navigate feelings of betrayal, rewriting narratives, and figuring out how to protect ourselves while also being brave enough to have uncomfortable conversations.

So, buckle up, grab a notebook, and get ready for the most honest and vulnerable episode yet!

Playing The Fool

Playing The Fool

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we thought it might be fun to do a deep dive into a specific card, and no place better to start than with The Fool.

We’ve actually been spending time with card all month long inside The Symposium, with the monthly theme of Playing the Fool (which is also the title of this episode), and have been delighted and surprised by all the twists and turns we’ve gone through as we have journeyed with this card.

This week’s podcast ended up being a wild ride, spending time with a huge number of Wands, The Moon, Six of Cups, High Priestess and Six of Swords along the way.

So, grab your dog and your knapsack, and come walk this path with us! We won’t let you fall off the cliff - we promise!

Identity Shift

Identity Shift

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we step into the world of personal identity and navigate the often uncomfortable experience of having to figure out who we are and who we want to be. We have to say, we knew it would be an important conversation, but we were really blown away by the direction it took.

We begin with Strength and Reversed Star, then we create a roller coaster of the major arcana, tons of reversals, and some very old school psychological theory.

Join us for this lively and insightful chat as we explore how we developed our identities, why we grow attached to them, and how to manage it when they have to change.

Taming the Inner Critic

Taming the Inner Critic

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we decided to do a few rounds with an adversary we all know in Taming the Inner Critic. We all have a critic’s voice in our head - and some of us have multiple critic’s voices. A quick Google search will offer some quick advice about how to quiet this voice, but we wanted to go a step farther and move beyond “symptom management” and really dive deep into how to better understand and ultimately tame, gain mastery over, and even embrace these voices.

We went through a ton of cards in this episode, including all the Sevens, a deep dive into the King of Swords, and gain some new perspectives on both Justice and Three of Wands. We both walk away with some new ideas and ways to look at both the cards and our own inner critics.

Redefining Temptation

Redefining Temptation

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis we wrestle with the age-old issue of temptation.  Honestly, we both came into this episode a little bit nervous, because as therapists we are trained to be non-judgmental. How could we talk about temptation without it sounding like we were judging a behavior? Spoiler alert: we figured it out.

It all began with Knight of Cups and Justice - an equally baffling and satisfying combination that brought us to questions of how do we recognize a temptation versus a need? When is behavior modification needed and when is it harmful? The idea of free will and choice and what role personal values may play into all of this also get explored through both the lens of psychology and tarot.

Let’s be honest, this is an issue we all struggle with in one way or another. Come listen in on a conversation with cards that offers a different perspective on the experience of Temptation.
