As I continue to travel the states for my “day job” I found myself giving and taking advice with other business travelers. I started to realize I had gained some wisdom that others might want me to share. In the summer of 2017, one of my friends made the statement “you should start a podcast”. Late 2017 I started listening to podcasts and people involved with podcasting. My hope is that other business travelers that listen to my podcast shows will learn tidbits of advice, websites/hacks/apps that make their business trips easier.

I talk to Jethro about how he travels with his gear and some of the fun places he has already performed in. Make sure to listen to the full episode on Monday so you can hear how he recently received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I asked him how learning a martial art is relative to learning magic/illusions.
I know 2018 was a great year for him, receiving black belt and getting married so I hope 2019 turns out to be a great year for him as well.
Big Sandy is my guest today on The Travel Wins podcast. Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee, Big Sandy and his band the Fly Rite Boys has been touring the world since the early 90’s. Robert “Big Sandy” Williams started his music playing career in the mid-80’s and his touring career started in the early 90’s. Almost 30 years later and he has played in multiple countries and most states in the US. We talk about the differences in traveling in the 90’s without technology and traveling nowadays.
Big Sandy and The Fly-Rite Boys have no slowing down in them as they get ready to start a European tour next week then coming home to play in 10 different states this summer. 35+ shows, 9 countries and 10 states this summer alone made Big Sandy a great interview for business travel.
BIG SANDY BACKGROUND
"Twenty-five years, hundreds of thousands of miles, and over 3,000 live performances; what a dream it's been!" said Robert "Big Sandy" Williams. "When I first got together for a garage rehearsal with a group of musician friends in the spring of 1988 in Anaheim, California, I never imagined that I would someday be celebrating the silver anniversary of the rocking little band that formed that afternoon"
Indeed, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys are beloved by many, with fourteen albums of undiluted joyful music pulled from rockabilly, rock & roll, honky-tonk, rhythm & blues, soul and doo-wop. What A Dream It's Been, out August 27 on Cow Island Music, is a collection of the band's favorite original numbers - all acoustic, reinterpreted with fresh new arrangements, rhythms, and instrumentation.
"Here I am, looking back at a wild ride that has taken us around the world countless times and put us in front of national television and radio audiences," said Big Sandy. He and the band have made three appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, featured on NPR's Fresh Airwith Terry Gross, as well as All Things Considered with Melissa Block. "Putting together this new record has brought back a flood of memories. It is our way of looking back at everything that has led us to where we are now. I feel like we're sounding better than ever and experimenting musically. While it's a reflection of our past, this album is really a hint of things to come."
All of the albums are represented here, and the new arrangements happened organically. "Often during sound checks and rehearsals, we'll get to messing around with songs," Big Sandy explained. "I Know I've Loved You Before was originally recorded as a slow, jazzy number. But one night at band practice after a few drinks, I started strumming the song with ska upstrokes and tried singing it in a more soulful, rocksteady style. The rest of the band fell in together and it started to sound like something that (Jamaican legend) Ken Boothe might have done. We all knew in that instant that we had to record the song that way as soon as possible."
"The last song on the album and title track, What A Dream It's Been, (a duet with acclaimed voice actress/Grammy Award winning vocalist Grey DeLisle) is a love song, but not in the conventional sense. As Big Sandy explained, "I wrote and recorded this song in 1998 after a couple of the Fly-Rite Boys told me they had to move on. Unsure if I would be able to continue on without them, this song sums up and pays tribute to the wonderful times that we had together."
Despite Big Sandy's uncertainty about the band's future at that time, a new generation of Fly-Rite Boys emerged. Performing on these recordings are Jeff West on bass and harmony vocals, Joe Perez on drums and backup vocals, and Ashley Kingman, a 20-year Fly-Rite veteran, on guitar and mandolin.
Here is my 5 for Friday with Big Sandy.

Tanya shares years of experience of traveling for work while learning ways to stay fit and healthy on the road. We also talk about the necessity of good sleep while traveling. It was a great talk and I’m thankful for Tanya’s friendship and time.
TANYA STANFIELD QUICK BIO
My career has been a series of adventures and "firsts" that have dropped me in the middle of chaos. Shortly after finishing my degree at the University of Wisconsin, I began my career in London, England and acted as a spokesperson for Homes for Islington - the first American to do so. Upon my return to the States, I took over marketing for a small digital firm in Milwaukee and later, at a startup managed by Kellogg School of Management and McCormick School of Engineering (Northwestern University). After freelancing for a few years, I made the leap into corporate America where I became the first regional business development manager for a mid-sized consulting firm, expanded the firm's business development and marketing capabilities while managing and motivating teams.
In my free time, I travel as much as possible, catch live music events, and fit in as much physical activity as possible both inside and outside the gym. In fact, I'm a three-time marathoner and recently launched a fitness hub for business travelers - Road Warrior Strong.

Don’t forget to catch the full episode on Monday.
Here’s a quick quote from her website
“No matter what my career threw at me, I always made time for working out and eating well. I even trained for my second marathon while working three jobs seven days per week, and never missed a training session. So when I began traveling for work, I thought staying fit on the road would be a piece of cake.
I saw other consulting colleagues' health crumble due to stress, horrible airport food, lack of sleep, and weight gain. But I was convinced that wasn’t going to happen to me. So before my first business trip, I spent over an hour on TripAdvisor viewing hotel fitness room photos to make sure I found one that would suit my needs. Needless to say, after all of the time spent doing that and with all of the real work I still had to do, meal planning went straight out the window.”
My guest on today’s The Travel Wins podcast is Marcus Peterson. Marcus is an NFL wide receiver, model and entrepreneur. His upbringing in Inglewood California at a very small school made him realize his need to work hard and appreciate everything that happens to him is for a reason. He went on to play football in college at Seton Hill and then traveled to England where he received his MBA. While living overseas he realized how big the world is and that it doesn’t revolve around the US. We also discuss his apparel business, MP Motivational Brand, and what his future holds for him after his football career is done.
I love the fact that he is using motivational phrases for his apparel. Anyone that is sharing positive vibes to the world needs to be recognized.
What The "MP" Brand Represents
"MP" Motivational Brand Apparel, represents for anyone who has ever been over looked, told they couldn’t achieve something, they aren't good enough, or underestimated. Understanding that there are and will be times in our lives where we will be overlooked and counted out but we can never lose faith or site of our goals. No matter what industry we are in, we all have a story of challenges we endure to achieving success. This notion provides the opportunity to wear our struggles through apparel to ignite our dreams in overcoming the "No’s" in life to becoming living proof of YES!
“MP” apparel is a great concept to remind others and ourselves that when we recognize our “Why” & "Purpose" in life having control of the ending result and can NEVER give up on our dreams. Understanding, that whatever happens, a human being does not have the last word for on our destiny, God does.
Here is today’s 5 for Friday with Marcus Peterson. Marcus is an NFL wide receiver, MBA graduate, model and business owner.
Being a young man from Inglewood, California, who attended a small Christian school playing “8- man” football and was not introduced to the game of football until his 10th grade year of high school. As his passion for the game grew he continued to sharpen his craft on the field and make his dream of becoming a professional football player a reality. Without receiving any Division-1 college scholarships, it was a long shot coming from the odds of his situation. Although, his college career did not pan out as expected, he did not let that diminish his drive for making it to the big leagues staying focused on his (Plan A).
After his collegiate senior year he had the opportunity to train with elite NFL quarterback’s, receivers, and trainers. Marcus’s faith in God & himself lead to signing a contract with an NFL team. He received his MBA while studying and working in London, England. Working as a model and entrepreneur, Marcus is using his positive mindset to grow his motivational apparel company, MP Motivational Brand Apparel.
The full episode will be available on Monday so make sure to come back and be inspired. I’d like to thank Marcus for sharing his story and passion with us.
Here is my podcast with personal trainer Curtis Fisher. Curtis has 20 plus years experience training himself and others to be healthier and maintain fitness levels. He shares his story of clean bodybuilding while working a day job and raising a family. He shares his time constraints and is aware of us travelers reasons/excuses we have when we travel for our work.
I particularly like his tips for exercising on the road without going to a gym. Providing simple exercises while being based in a hotel room is essential and easy.
He also shares how to eat healthier on the road which, at least for me, is often a struggle. For me when I’m home I feel like I can control my food prep and cooking. I struggle sitting in a hotel room wondering where there are good food choices around. Curtis helps by reminding us that most restaurants have better options now and many supermarkets have deli shops and ready to eat meals inside.
If you have any additional questions or want some advice or clarity on a topic discussed, Curtis is more than willing to help and guide you on your way to better health.
Here’s my 5 for Friday with personal trainer Curtis Fisher. Curtis shares some food strategies and supplementation possibilities for us road travelers. I know for myself I’m always trying to eat better when I’m on the road. When I slip up or have to eat something that isn’t the best for me I remind myself that overall I’m still eating better than before and life is about moderation.
On the full episode releasing on Monday, Curtis also shares some travel tips for exercise as well as some mindset goals on how to live healthier.
Anytime I can get advice and tips from someone with 20+ year of experience I take it. I might not always listen at the time and I usually alter the advice to my own personal goals……I always appreciate the time and knowledge shared with me and my listeners.

I'm excited to share this "5 for Friday" with Hakeem Valles. Hakeem is a real estate investor, public speaker, fiance, and new father, who also happen to have had a successful career in the NFL. After playing several seasons in the NFL Hakeem made the decision to move on to the next chapter in his life on his terms. I reached out to Hakeem on a social media platform after watching a video showing Hakeem speaking to others in a public speaking venue about his decisions to invest some of his football earnings instead of just spending it. I was blown away by his maturity and wisdom at such a young age. He was gracious enough to share his time and I hope we all learn something from his words.

My guest on today's podcast is Jesse Iwuji. Jesse is an American professional stock car racing driver and officer in the United States Navy Reserve. He currently competes in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series in the No. 34 for Reaume Brothers Racing.
"toughest part with the traveling.... sometimes might be just getting enough rest"
Iwuji attended the United States Naval Academy, where he joined the school's college football and track and field teams; on the former, he was a free safety for the Navy Midshipmen. He graduated from the academy in 2010 and entered the United States Navy as a surface warfare officer, in which he served on the Mine Countermeasures ship Exultant and USS Comstock. After seven years on active duty, Iwuji transitioned to the Navy Reserve.
As a sailor and driver, Iwuji has served as an ambassador for both the military and NASCAR communities. In addition to supporting military philanthropic groups, he is also involved in various NASCAR events supporting the armed forces and veterans.
My podcast today is with Dina Parise. Dina is the President of Dina Parise Racing, as well as a Driver, cook, PR person, Social Media and Marketing Maestro. Parise is the 2015 IHRA Pro Mod World Champion and is the first female to hold that esteemed title, yet that only scratches the surface. How many former Professional Figure Skating, World Champion Pro Mod Drivers do you know? That’s right! Only one! That is what makes Parise one of the most dynamic figures on the circuit today.
You can follow Dina and her team on her social media pages Twitter Instagram LinkedIn Facebook or on her website www.dinapariseracing.com.
Growing up on Long Island, she was a competitive gymnast all through school but her real passion was figure skating. Her ultimate dream was to skate professionally for the World-Renowned ‘Ice Capades’. She took that passion and made her dream a reality, although it almost did not come to fruition! She passed her audition with flying colors, but there was an issue. Parise was told she did not meet the height requirement. In the scheme of things, that did not seem to matter to the gentleman running the audition. He was so impressed with her, he had her ‘adapt’ her height (yes, she lied) on the application, and the rest is history. She then skated, touring with the ‘Ice Capades’ for four years.
Did you ever see something and just know you had to try it? Even if maybe you did not succeed, but you just had to try? Well, that’s just what Parise thought when she began Drag Racing. She had to try it. When your very first time down the ¼ mile is 9 seconds at 146 MPH you know you mean business! Not to mention, she was in her 30’s at the time. There was no looking back from there!
Now in her Pro Mod Cadillac ‘Stella’, she powers down the ¼ mile track in under 6 seconds at over 240 MPH. In her words, “I was born with glitter in my veins and a led foot!” Racing is not just a man’s game as some may think. The most engaging part about it is the fact that in racing, men and women compete equally and are not segregated by gender (unless you are affiliated with F1, but that’s another story).
Something many people do not realize is that Drag Racing circuits and touring Ice shows are quite parallel. Touring with an Ice show consists of traveling week to week from venue to venue. The ice surface changes, but the performer still has their ‘skates’ (to perform with) and ‘sequin costume’s. The fans wait (by the backstage door) for autographs and the children have positive role models to look up to. In Racing, the game is the same although the venue and the equipment may be vastly different. The racers race at a different track (venue) each week. The track surface changes, and racers have ‘Tires’ (for performance) and ‘Fire suit’ (as clothing). When coming back from a run, fans wait to have autographs signed, and meet the drivers. You see, it’s all relative!
DPR has a rich history in giving back to the community on many levels. DPR has always gone by the motto, ‘it’s an accomplishment to get to the finish line first, but the journey getting there is what is most important.’ DPR is very proud to take fan engagement to the next level in the way of programs Parise herself has developed to honor our nations Veterans and Military Members. Creating visibility honoring those who have served this great nation is paramount to DPR.
Having an eclectic background has led Parise into the realm of motivational speaking (not as cliché as it sounds) combined with elite athlete mentorship as well as keynote speaking for various companies and events. Parise has also ventured into the hosting side. Her days as a performer for the Ice Capades honed her skills for promotion, marketing and on-camera work.
“I want people, (especially females) to know they can achieve anything they set their mind to.” Said Parise. “Never let anyone tell you no.”
On today’s podcast is Erin Lamont. Erin is a choreographer, dancer, entrepreneur, wife and mom who has been working professionally ever since she graduated from college with a B.A in Dance, and a B.B.A in Marketing from Western Michigan University. On this podcast she shares her views and insights on how to be successful in business as a working mom and wife.
“It’s a grind but you just learn how to sleep on a plane, especially when you have kids that don’t realize you only slept two hours the night before.”
She has worked with notable artists; Kevin Rudolph, the Veronicas, Trace Adkins, Boys Like Girls, and Lady Gaga. Her choreography can be seen on; L.A Fashion Week, the 2009 Miss USA Pageant, the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant in Vietnam, NBC, Exercise TV, and ESPN. Other credits include; Warner Brothers Film “The Lonely Dog” directed by Avika Goldsman, Skechers, Nike, Nuskin, ABC, Puma, Wella, Wyndham Resorts, Playboy, EMI Records, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Disney, Spike TV, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and the NBA L.A Clippers Dance team.
Erin also tours as a guest artist and has worked with Sydney Dance Company, Melbourne Music Academy, ABC Dance Group in Vietnam, Broadway Dance Center Tokyo, EDGE Performing Arts Center, and has taught master classes in over 40 states across the U.S. Lastly, this year she was nominated by Capezio and Dancer Magazine as one of the top ten choreographers in the country. She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA where she produces L.A’s most rockin burlesque group called: The Lalas.
My guest on today’s podcast is Angela Ruch. Angela is a NASCAR driver, wife, twin sister and soon to be Mom. Her recent success at Daytona International Speedway (Top 10) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Top 20) in the NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series will only add to the 2019 highlights for the Ruch family. Angela speaks about her hectic work/life schedule all while getting ready for the birth of their adoptive son. I appreciate Angela giving me a little bit of her day on such an important time in her life and wish her and her family continued successes.
She and her sister, Amber Cope, made NASCAR history on October 23, 2010 by being the first twins to compete in one of its top three series. That day they made their NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series in Martinsville, VA. Amber Cope, driving the No. 6 Dodge, finished 26th, while Angela Cope was involved in two incidents within 18 laps of each other early in the race and finished 30th.
The twins began racing in Go-Karts at age 9. They quickly gained attention by winning poles and races year after year. By age 15 they stepped up to late-model race cars—even before they had driver's licenses. Angela took 1st place in 2002 at the Lucas Oil Can-Am 150 at the Sun Valley Speedway. In 1995, Angela finished 1st and Amber finished 3rd in the Tri-cities Gold Cup "Yamaha Class". By 1998, both sisters were PSGKA Gold Cup winners in the "Junior Piston Port". Both sisters split seat time in 2006 at the ARCA Re/Max Series at Berlin, Gateway, Chicagoland, Milwaukee Mile, and Toledo, Ohio. By 2008, the twins qualified for the ARCA Re/Max Series at Kentucky Speedway, with positions 8 and 15.
She currently competes part-time in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, driving the No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado for NEMCO Motorsports.
Angela and Amber Cope became the third generation of Copes to enter into the world of racing, when, at the young age of nine, the girls' parents gave them a go-kart for Christmas and thus began their road to NASCAR. Once they began competing locally, the girls made a name for themselves and became the most accomplished go-kart racers in the Greater Puget Sound region. In their seven years of driving, go-karts included 50 first place wins and setting on pole position 20 times in the Pacific Northwest. Angela also set new track records at five of six tracks in the same region.
At the young age of 15, they progressed to late model race cars even before they had their license to drive. In 2000, a very short time after their debut in late model stock cars they instantly acquired national attention when they were featured on TODAY with host Bryant Gumbel.
As Angela and Amber became more experienced and confident behind the wheel, they knew that in order to pursue a career in NASCAR they would have to leave Washington. They moved across the country to Charlotte, North Carolina to start training with their uncle Derrike. The twins put all of their focus into learning the in and outs of professional racing. They traveled with their Uncle Derrike to every Cup race that he went to and became fixtures on the track and in the pit.

Today’s podcast is with Sandy Knights.
Sandy started singing several years ago in her home state of California. She decided to make a career of it and moved to Las Vegas several years ago. Sandy started singing and touring with a local Vegas band, Whiskey Maiden. She traveled to several western states this past year and got to experience life on the road as the only woman in a five piece band. I was excited to speak with a female lead singer that traveled with a band. Part of our discussion was the hardships of traveling while she was missing out on her hobbies, friends and family.
“I’ve recently come across some free time and I kind of sat back with some solitude and thought to myself, When is the last time I rode a horse? When’s the last time I shot a gun? When’s the last time I went fishing? These are all things I did on a weekly basis back home.”
You can catch up with Sandy on her social media pages, Instagram @sandyknightsofficial or her Facebook page facebook.com/sandyknightsofficial.
I am truly thankful for the time Sandy shared with me. Our conversation was one of several I’ve had with different friends as we are all trying to figure out where we fit in the world and what are we contributing to it. I hope you enjoy the conversation with Sandy Knights.
My guest today is Danny David. Danny is a proven marketing and branding expert in the sports and entertainment industry. He currently works with professional athletes.
Danny’s vast experience in digital media and brand development is one of the reasons why I was so interested in speaking with him. He began working with talent on management and marketing when he was just 18 and the social media era was first beginning to boom. Danny attended The Ohio State University and was able to network and see up close what an athlete's life really entails and how there is massive potential for them to capitalize on their brand given the platform they have. He then started working for VaynerSports, at the time a newly formed sports marketing company, as their Director of Business Development. Now as the Managing Partner of Fifth Down Marketing, Danny is just now hitting his stride in helping his clients realize and maximize their brand potential.
I would like to thank Danny for our late night chat and sharing his wisdom towards traveling and digital marketing.

My guest on today’s show is Landon Turner. He played for the New Orleans Saints the past two seasons and is now on the Carolina Panthers roster for 2019. He played college football at University of North Carolina where he played all 4 years. Landon’s senior year ended as the team captain, 1st Team All-American and he won the Jim Parker Trophy as the best offensive lineman in the country. After two years in the NFL and starting his third year for the Panthers we discussed the differences between traveling as a college player and the NFL.
We also discussed the role being a full time college athlete being a hindrance against getting job or intern experiences while in college putting the players behind their classmates that don’t have to spend so much time as an athlete.
Landon was a great guest and I am really thankful he gave me as much time as he did. I wish him the best of luck in the future.
Here is part 2 of my chat with division 1 college football coach Jake Zweig.
We talk about his time traveling internationally while he was a Navy SEAL. He speaks about his time working on the television shows and I also ask Jake how he prepares his student/athletes to schedule their time while playing a sport at the highest level.
I am very thankful to Jake for sharing so much time with me and my listeners.
My guest today is Jake Zweig. Jake is man who has accomplished a tremendous amount in a short time and is just now hitting his prime. Jake attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he played football and wrestled. He graduated as a commissioned officer receiving his degree in computer science.
He served for two years before reporting for Navy SEAL training where he was named the SEAL class leader. Following his SEAL training, Jake reported to SEAL Team 8 in Little Creek, VA and attained the rank of Lieutenant.
He then went on to earn his MBA from the University of Michigan.
Jake began his coaching career in 2005 when he joined the University of Maryland staff as a graduate assistant working with the Terrapin wide receivers. He has since worked as an assistant coach at several colleges and is now working at the University of Illinois as their Special Teams Analyst.
His off the clock activities keep him equally busy. He co-hosted the Discovery Channel series called “Dude You’re Screwed” and competed on History Channels show “Top Shot” against law enforcement officers, military snipers and professional shooters. He still goes scuba diving and parachutes to raise awareness for veteran’s charities and just for fun.

College athletes compete at a high level for their schools but are sometimes unable to take heavy workloads or take on internship opportunities due to their demanding athletic schedules. Some feel inadequate entering the job market after graduation. The company Darci works for, Athletes to Careers, helps these athletes with their resumes, interview skills and reminds them that what made them successful in sports are the same characteristics that many companies are looking for. Darci travels to colleges thru out California meeting coaches and athletes to help them. A young, millennial woman working hard, traveling the roads in Southern California trying to help others with their careers is inspiring.

“Most of my travel happens during the non-playing season including the Super Bowl, scouting combine and the draft”
Andrew also gave some great insight on how he was successful in pursuing a job in the sports industry and being flexible in his occupational goals.
I very much appreciate Andrew giving me some time to chat and he shared his views on “seeing the sights” while on work trips.

I was excited to get the chance to speak with Steve Frick on my latest “The Travel Wins” podcast. Steve has 18+ years of corporate travel for a trillion + dollar corporate company. His journeys are by air and road, racking up the miles and traveler point privileges. His experience traveling as youngster when his dad would be transferred as a sales rep for Xerox gave him a good head start in his adult travels. His pancake story is a classic.
Steve has his own business travel blog and podcast. His podcast is called, Travel Stories From Back Again And Gone, where he shares tips and stories from the road. You can catch his podcast at www.anchor.fm/travelstoriesfrombackagainandgone and his travel blog at www.hypeamerica.com channel “Back and Gone Again”.

Kevin has been a professional musician for 30+ years. He spent time touring as the keyboardist for the 80’s band Missing Persons and more recently toured with the Pink Floyd Experience. He is continuing his playing as part of a dueling piano ensemble in Las Vegas playing to thousands of people each week.
I was really happy getting the chance to speak with Kevin because of his eating choices and being a vegan for the past 27 years while being a touring musician. I know many of us business travelers struggle eating healthy while on the road. Not that we have to eat a vegan diet but more of the idea of making smarter, healthier choices while traveling. I know it’s just as easy to grab a candy bar, soda and some chips versus a protein bar, banana and water.
Again I would like to thank Kevin for his time and sharing his experiences.

A great talk with country music star Cowboy Troy Coleman about his life on the road, balancing work/life commitments, family life and diversification in the music/entertainment business.
“It’s kind of that gypsy lifestyle”
A six-foot five-inch, hick-hop artist is going to get a response, and Cowboy Troy is okay with the strong reactions and endless questions. “I have crazy intentions,” he says with a grin. But anyone who thinks that the Cowboy Troy experience ends there, doubts his country credentials, or is inclined to dismiss him as a novelty, is in for quite a surprise. “People have different paths,” Troy says. “I’m not going to apologize for my music, because this is who I am. I didn’t just wake up one morning, put on a cowboy hat, and get a gig rapping on a country album. You don’t do something for 15 years on a lark.”
Cowboy Troy rapped his way into the country mainstream on the first cut of Big & Rich’s 2004 debut Horse Of A Different Color. And while his admonition to “let go of all your preconceived notions” certainly wasn’t the first time elements of rap had been incorporated into country, it was the boldest statement yet. Explaining the journey that placed Troy Coleman at this unlikely intersection is as complicated as explaining the evolution of American culture. At the same time it’s as simple as the story of a kid from Texas who did what all kids do–he soaked up the world around him.
Troy spent his childhood in Ft. Worth, where his dad took him to rodeos and stock shows. “We’d listen to Willie Nelson, Jerry Reed, Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers, and other artists who were getting airplay on the adult contemporary stations at that time,” Troy says. “I didn’t realize it was country music, I just knew it was what my parents listened to before they went to work in the morning.” Troy spent his high school years in Dallas and collegiate years in Austin, Texas at the University of Texas.
In addition to solo releases [Loco Motive (2005), Black in the Saddle (2007), and Demolition Mission (2009)], Troy has spent time on TV. He’s been a part of the ESPN College Gameday video intro along with Big & Rich since the 2006 football season. He also served as co-host for USA Network’s Nashville Star in 2006 and 2007. Most recently Troy performed on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars on the final episode of 2012 Spring season. His appearance in Big & Rich’s Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy video, as well as his own I Play Chicken With the Train and Hick Chick videos remind viewers of his “party starter” nature.
Troy knows he’s challenging conventional thinking about what country music is, but expects that his music will find its place. “I’ve never been like everybody else and it wouldn’t do me any good to try,” he says. “Some people are going to love it and some are going to hate it, which is probably how it should be because it means they’re talking.” The way Troy sees it, “innovation is a tradition, not a trend or secondary option…authenticity comes in the commitment.” Troy calls Warner Music Nashville his recording home. His latest installment of music, “King of Clubs” was released March 11, 2014.
He released his 7th studio album this year called “Laugh With Me”.
Troy speaks extensively about his calculated plan to diversify, as the industry constantly changes. Troy also talks about the work/life balances of traveling while being a husband and father of triplets.
Troy is one of the good guys and I know he appreciates your follows, comments and likes on his various social media pages.
