Techniques for visualization with Lionel Wilson

When Lionel was younger, he had a tough time figuring out where he belonged.  In fact, he was even insulted by members of his own family.  Determined to find who he really was and what he was capable of, he set out to learn from Bob Proctor about mindset strategies.  He's gone on to become a practitioner of neurolingusitic programming, working with real estate professionals on their unconscious thoughts and teaching tips to change them.

In this educational episode, Lionel shares the secrets:

1.  What visualization is

2. Techniques for perfecting your visualization strategy

3. How to know when you've "reached" your potential

4. How to forgive anyone who has hurt you

About Lionel Wilson

Finding opportunities with Kat Samardzija, CEO of Locker Lifestyle

Finding opportunities with Kat Samardzija, CEO of Locker Lifestyle

Kat Samardzija, CEO of Locker Lifestyle

Join us ladies as we go behind the scenes of what it was like to build the brand that is taking over the internet by helping women feel safer on their daily run.

About Locker Lifestyle & Kat:

Locker Lifestyle offers sleek, stylist pockets for any activity. Fit cash, keys, an ID phone & more on the go. Ideal for running, travel, fitness and festivals!

It all started in February of 2016...Our founder, Kat, being a very active student-athlete, decided she was sick of bringing her entire wallet to the gym when all she needed was her student ID to get in/out. Lockers didn't lock, cubbies were open for anyone to steal belongings, and she didn't need everything she always ended up bringing!

After countless hours of searching for the perfect product with no success, she decided to do something about it, especially since running belts are bulky, unfashionable, and restricting.

Fortunately Kat's "Momager" had a successful bridal store with a very talented seamstress. Kat drew up the designs, specifics, and worked with her to see if what she was thinking up was even possible. After many revisions, her very first product, the Wrist Locker™, was born!

Whenever she wore the test market prototype, everyone around her would ask where they could get one. She then realized she was not the only person with this problem. After countless hours of tweaking and trials, Kat learned how to sew for herself.

Locker Lifestyle® started small, selling on Etsy, at local festivals, and gyms. Before she knew it, even while attending college and playing tennis on scholarship, Kat sold hundreds of Wrist Lockers™, and placed FIRST in 7/7 entrepreneurship competitions she entered. She then changed her major from Nursing to Entrepreneurship.

How is it that other people can have such a hook in us, leaving us to feel heightened emotions like anger, frustration or even rage? We learn about the moment Travis almost gave up completely and what thought propelled him forward.

9:50

"And yeah, we were we were absolutely dependent on on welfare in the state for every so you know that that does two things, one that you don't feel like you have a lot of options and you don't really talk about the future very much especially when your life is full. Trying to survive and in the moment, and two, you get really ostracized from the rest of the community, you know, especially in a small community, it was obvious that my mom was young, it was obvious that we didn't have a father around, it was obvious that we were poor and didn't have any money. And so, you know, on the other hand, that also keeps people from wanting to be around you or from wanting to let their kids be around you or from, you know, as I got older from feeling like I was someone that could be counted on to wash the dishes at their restaurant, or whatever the case may be."

Going after your bucket list with kindness, featuring Sebastian Terry

Going after your bucket list with kindness, featuring Sebastian Terry

'In case of an emergency oxygen masks will fall from the ceiling. Please put yours on first before helping others'

Inspired by the death of a close friend, Sebastian Terry experienced a moment in his life where he asked himself a simple question; ‘Am I happy?’.

The answer was NO and so he created a list of 100 Things that he hoped would help him find happiness.

Ten years later, after dropping everything in his life to achieve the ultimate bucket list (#23 Deliver a Baby, #67 Live on a Deserted Island for 1 Week, #26 Help a Stranger, etc), Sebastian’s story has grown from an adventurous tale into a global philanthropic movement that engages a growing tribe of hundreds of thousands to set meaningful goals, achieve our biggest dreams and help others in need.

“I thought initially that it would take me 100 Things to reach a state of fulfillment but it’s taken me 72 things to realize that ‘ticks’ are just the beginning. The key to growth and happiness is finding out who you are on a primal level and then being that person, each and every day. The icing on the cake is then helping others and being of service”

This evolution into the kindness space has spawned the birth of Kindsum, a peer-to-peer platform, activating acts of kindness in the general public and within organizations.

What’s on your list?

Sales, Selling, and CRMS w CEO of Salesflare on The Truth About Sales

Listen in on this weeks episode of The Truth About Sales where we discuss where sales managers go wrong in using CRMs,  what metrics to monitor on your team, and hear the story of how Salesflare went from startup to the most popular crm on Product Hunt.

Jeroen is co-founder and CEO of Salesflare, an intelligent CRM built for SMBs selling B2B, mostly popular with agencies and SaaS companies.  Salesflare itself was founded when Jeroen and his co-founder Lieven wanted to manage the leads for their software company in an easier way. They didn't like to keep track of them manually and built Salesflare, which pulls customer data together automatically.  It's now the most popular CRM on Product Hunt and top rated on review platforms like G2 for its ease of use and automation features.

Productivity & time management mindset hacks - hosted by Klyn Elsbury

Productivity & time management mindset hacks - hosted by Klyn Elsbury

This week on The Truth About Sales

Wanting higher productivity is a sign you want a life better than what you're currently living.

And you should have it.
I received an audience question on Facebook that reads:

"I’m one of - if not the top producing sales guy at *blaaaaank*   - when I’m on I’m on - my character defect, is I suck at multi tasking - I’m a little like a shark in a tank laser focused on pray directly in front of me. I normally write a list of task for the day - I just get pulled in different directions and I’m scattered on what gets accomplished and what doesn’t"

Todays episode explores the myth of not having time, not being productive enough and HOW TO actually plan your day and structure your priorities so people go from asking you to put out their fires to how you manage to accomplish so much...

This is the MOST TACTICAL episode yet.
I break down how to think of your values, share my time management success secrets, and give 12 steps he can implement NOW to never have this concern again.

In true Shark School style, we explain all of the different interpretations and HOW you can apply some of the methodologies and principles to your every day life immediately.

Cuz if you can't apply this stuff, what's the point?!

Here were the quadrants to base the exercise off of:

  1. Urgent- important
  2. Urgent – not important
  3. Not urgent- important
  4. Not urgent – unimportant

Where most ppl get confused is they don’t understand the unique values for importance and put something in a category because they feel it should go there vs it needs to go there.

We end the show with a light meditation to get you refocused and centered so you can apply these tactics IMMEDIATELY.

Why giving an employee a counter offer doesn't work (& what to do about it)

On this episode we answer a listener question from Kevin, VP of Sales for a Tech company in Boston.

He asks,
" Hey Klyn, I listened to your first podcast when you were helping your fiancé.

Not sure if this is in your expertise, thought I’d reach out to see.
I have an employee who recently interviewed for a similar position at a company that isn’t a direct competitor and received an offer.

This is a key employee.

They offered him 7k more than what he is making now and he put in his 2 week notice.

I’ve asked my advisors what to do, and they told me to match it and add a bonus.

Yet I’m unsure.

Why are counter offers considered bad or should I listen to advisors?"

I'm going to dive into combining neurolinguistic programming tactics towards dealing with counter-offers and how you can navigate this and HOW you can apply some of the methodologies and principles to your business immediately.

Cuz if you can't apply this stuff, what's the point?!

Getting back to being IN AWE of our lives with John O'Leary

Getting back to being IN AWE of our lives with John O'Leary

John O' Leary has lived through worse than most can imagine. At age nine, a fire exploded and burned 100% of his body. Given a one-percent chance to live, he fought extraordinary odds.

"I spent five months in the hospital, underwent dozens of surgeries, lost all of my fingers to amputation and had to relearn to walk, write, and feed myself. I endured, persevered, and survived – largely because others emerged, served and inspired. I now live to share the life-giving lessons from my story in hope that I can Spark! the extraordinary possibility of your story.

I share these lessons as a tribute to those who leapt into the flames to save me. Who worked tirelessly to restore me. Who pushed me to write though I no longer had fingers. Who held me close when the days were dark and the nights scary. I share these lessons as an invitation for you to choose to wake up to the fullness of your life, to embrace the amazing gift of each moment, and to celebrate the joy of your inspired life!"

As he shares these lessons, sparks will leap.

You can’t always choose the path you walk in life, but you can always choose the manner in which you walk.

Today is your day. Live inspired.

Own Your Timeline with Laura Behnke

Own Your Timeline with Laura Behnke

When it comes to being a strong female, Laura Behnke knows what's up.

She's an expert in empowering women to break free of societal norms & embrace their unique life path.

Laura's Story

"When I was about nine or ten years old, I decided I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.  And every writer needs a space in which to work, right?  So, I pushed a small desk into my tiny walk-in closet and called it my office.  I would sit for hours at this desk and write short stories complete with my own illustrations (because obviously every good book has pictures).

Perhaps it should come as no surprise that here I am, about 30 years later, laying my heart out in print (sadly minus the crayon drawings).  Writing has always been an outlet for me and after a 16-year stint as a television sports anchor and reporter, I’ve gone back to my roots by sharing my own personal stories.

I also realized once I hit 30 that I did not, in fact, have it all figured out.  That 10-year-old Laura who was writing stories in her closet probably thought that 20 years later she would be a full-fledged adult with a husband and a couple of kids.  Turns out, I was none of the above.

And it scared the crap out of me.

But over the last (nearly) decade I’ve learned to accept that life isn’t always about what you expected.  And it’s the twists and turns along the way that actually make it a life worth living and sharing.  I met my husband when I was 35 (and a half), got married at 38 (and a half), and if kids are in our future, I’ll be at least 40.

But this is my timeline, and I’m finally owning it.

There is the life you thought you would have and there is your life, actually.  It’s the “actually” that holds all the power and excitement.  We just have to choose to embrace it.

Whether you are exactly where you thought you would be or just trying to keep your head above water, my goal with The Life Actually Company is to simply tell it like it is.  By sharing my stories, advice and experiences I want you to realize you aren’t alone.  And happiness is yours to find and cultivate.

So, let’s keep it real. After all, being an adult is hard enough.  Let’s lift each other up along the way.

This is a good time to also mention that in addition to having my husband, Marc, I’m also a proud dog mom to Oxford the labradoodle.  You will see a lot of him.  Sorry not sorry.  He’s adorable.  And we all live in California where we spend our time trying to be hipster enough to not get evicted."

Equally impressive, Shay is the proud father of 5 kids under 12. We all face obstacles. His message will help you realize our greatest tragedies are often our greatest blessings if we have the faith to stay the course. He will share how despite being told he'd never compete in sports again and having to learn how to walk again, he went on to compete in 11 triathlons World Championships including the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

We are all facing something; we all have the odds stacked against us in some way. Attendees should take comfort in knowing others have been there and not only survived but thrived. His message of training the brain, shaping your reality and doing the daily things empowers everyone to quit making excuses, do the hard work and "embrace the suck."

What did you dislike about your last job, company, and product? What did you love about your last job, company, and product? Chances are, one of these lists was more comfortable for you to write.  If you found it easy to list complaints rather than things you loved, it could be problematic. When you condition your mind to look for the negative and what you don’t like, you will continue to find things to support that belief system.  It starts innocently enough, and you don’t get along with your manager.  They may micromanage you or the sales process.  They may not pay you what you think your value is.  These “red flags” exist to keep you from making mistakes in your career or staying in a place that isn’t serving you for very long.  Determine whether it is a bad manager or a direction from above. Don’t waste time on stuff you cannot change. Most salespeople focus so much on what they don’t want; they forget to focus on what they want.

If I ask you, what is it that gets you excited about your company or product?  What makes you excited about your industry? If you could wave a magic wind, where would you want to be in 5 years? The reality is, as a society, we are so used to finding what it is we do not want that we have trouble defining our ideal outcomes. In one company, I was aiding in the hiring process for a potential sales representative with 20 years of experience.  He knew how to sell, sell well, and efficiently contribute to any company that hired him. And there were red flags from the first interview. For example, I asked the candidate to explain what he disliked about each company. He stated, “getting to the office by a set time is hard for me; I need to make my schedules.”  For some companies, that’s fine.  For this company, it's a deal-breaker.  They receive a solid list of leads online overnight, and the ability for the reps to start dials at 8 am crucial.  It was never going to be a fit for this opportunity for a candidate who struggles with coming into work on time. During the interview process, he discussed how he couldn’t trust managers because although he accomplishes his work, they micromanage.

What’s interesting was the company he was applying for was incredibly progressive. They structure hours for employees based on traffic patterns, have flex hours for top performers, and pay handsomely. His past baggage ruined his chances because he couldn’t focus on what the good was, only what he didn’t want.  He couldn’t see that realistic first-year income after base salary and commission was $100,000 without a college degree! Don’t let your prior baggage, adverse events, and those times when something didn’t work out taint your mindset and future possibilities. Achievers, take some time today and reflect on all that you do want in your profession.  Get specific on your perfect day and ideal career.  What does it look like?

Now that you know what you want, it’s easy to see where there is a misalignment in your life. Are you in a career that isn’t working for your ideal lifestyle?
In my corporate workshops, I teach the 5 Steps to Unstuck Yourself. Oftentimes, we are so busy working inside our problems, we forget how to disassociate ourselves from the situation and see it for what it really is versus how we feel about it.

Know your outcome

Discover your whys/values.

Take action

Look for the failures as feedback

Pivot or adapt your action steps while staying focused on the outcome

If you know your outcome, you need to have a plan on how to achieve it. Many sales representatives never truly defined what they want their success to be like, so they are confused about why it hasn’t happened.
Do not let that be you. You know your talents, your superpowers, where your gap in performance is, and where you must improve. The next few weeks will challenge you to level up even more so. We will go through the rest of this chapter’s steps throughout your 30 days, so be prepared. For now, though, get that calendar out and set aside 2 hours every week to develop your plan.
Treat your career as your own business. Teach yourself how to be personally accountable in all situations. Be proactive. You are the CEO of your job. By owning your schedule and calendar in a well-defined plan, you will be ahead of everyone else who becomes preoccupied with mediocrity and wonders why the good things never happen to them.
Good things happen to you, for you, when you make them strategically happen.

super powers

super powers

You have to know what your selling superpower is. If I ask 100 salespeople why I should buy from them, I hear things like:

We are the highest rated.

Our customer service is the best.

We have a great price.

We care about our customers.

Listen, I mean no disrespect, those aren’t superpowers anymore. Customers expect those things now. I want to know what makes you different. The company and product differentiation are essential, and also, so are you as a representative. I want to know your superpower and why customers will buy from you.
During one of my corporate training programs, I met a sales representative who had the perfect phone voice. When he talks on the phone, it sounds much like what Chet Holmes (late author of The Ultimate Sales Machine) called the late-night DJ voice. It’s that soothing jazz voice that melts the prospect into becoming a buyer and enjoying the process of being sold. His superpower was that voice and ability to build instant rapport with anyone. Look for your superpowers and use that to your advantage.
Another example, my superpower is and has always been surviving 67 hospitalizations from cystic fibrosis. I know a thing or two about adversity and getting through the most challenging and darkest days (which I describe in my first best-seller, I AM: The Untold Story of Success). So in conversations with buyers, I ask about their tough times. I ask about their struggle. I can relate to people who are in the midst of the chaos of their lives and give them hope it gets better.
What is that “thing” that makes you unique? You may have seen it as a disadvantage before. Your adversity is your advantage, and do not listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.

standards

standards

If day 1, you wrote an extensive list, then kudos to you. I’ve hired over 1800 salespeople in my recruiting career and then as a corporate recruiting consultant for various Inc 5000 and Fortune 1000 companies.
I noticed, when you ask a high achiever to look in the mirror and come up with four things they know they need to change, they will create 10. An average performer will write 4-5. And those who aren’t genuinely committed to success will write out one or two and then shift to something else that provides short-term gratification.
None of these approaches are wrong, per se. They all serve that individual. Most people do not want to look in the mirror and analyze their faults, so if you did, give yourself some credit. Just don’t bask in the glory when there is work to do.
Let me tell you a quick story. One of the call center reps I coached sat in the front row of a training class and took so many notes, I thought they would need surgery on their hand after the 3-hour training.
At the close of the training, I gave everyone homework. I instructed the reps to commit to raising their standards (see Day 3) and strive to increase their outbound prospecting activities by 100 dials in the next month.
She thought she needed to call 100 more prospects that week! And she did. While the other representatives were busy talking, taking breaks, and wasting their time, she figured out ways to accomplish more activity in less time. A bottom of the pack performer, suddenly she was 3rd in the whole company. Why? She developed the habit of raising her standards. You become the air you breathe.

honesty

honesty

No matter where you are in life right now, recognize there’s room for improvement.  I know that times are often challenging, careers can be stagnant, the economy is unpredictable, and society seems to have lost its way.

And I also know, paradoxically, we live in a time of the most significant resources available to most people.  In general, when we leave our homes, we are safe.  We have a supportive group of friends and family, and the world happens to reward those who work hard to change their current situation rather than let it be the final destination.

You wouldn’t have bought this book if you didn’t believe that you had what it takes to succeed in your life and sales career. You wouldn’t have purchased this book unless part of you thought you had what it takes to surpass your goals, raise your expectations, and prove mountains are built from the rocks others have thrown at you.

So today, look in the mirror.  This book will provide you with tough love.  Look in that mirror and listen to that gut reaction you have.  Where have you been slacking?  Are you fit?  Are you as healthy as you can be?  Are you eating the foods that give your future self-energy and stamina?  Do you have any habits you need to eliminate?  How sharp is your mind, and what are you doing to improve neuroplasticity?  Do you know what neuroplasticity is?

Make a comprehensive list of what that itty bitty head committee is telling you.  Allow yourself to beat yourself up a little bit.  You need to.  Your competition can’t beat you if you know your weaknesses and work to overcome them.
