2020 HIFF Interview with Takeshi Fukunaga Director of Ainu Mosir
Ainu Mosir is a documentary that is currently being featured virtually in several film festivals around the country including the 2020 Hawaii International Film Festival. The film has also been picked up by Array Releasing for distribution and will premiere on Netflix on Tuesday, November 17th. Director Takeshi Fukunaga generously took some time to talk about the movie and to explain why telling a story about the Ainu people is so important as their culture and language has been slowly fading away.
Special Halloween Horror Edition with the Creators of The Old Ways
The creators of The Old Ways, director Christopher Alender, writer Marcos Gabriel, and lead actress Brigitte Kali Canales, sat down virtually with the TwoOhSix Podcast to discuss what went into making the movie. This was a super fun interview and we had a great time discussing some really strange and interesting topics about how the movie was made as well as some of Brigitte's interesting career choices. Here's just a couple examples:
- Why would Brigitte sign up for a movie knowing her character gets tortured?
- Christopher explains what Death Whistles are and how they were added to the movie
- Marcos won't like your Instagram post but he will meet you for coffee
- Brigitte reveals how she didn't know she was auditioning for Star Wars until she got the role!
- The Old Ways just might be a new way of introducing a badass demon hunting action hero.
The Old Ways is a horror movie from Soapbox Films that recently premiered at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain. The movie is a new twist on the classic exorcism story and goes deep into Mexican folklore to create an original and truly scary experience.

In 2018, So Yun Um hit the festival circuit with her autobiographical short documentary film Liquor Store Babies including a stop at the 2019 Seattle Asian American Film Festival and is currently working on the full feature version which is scheduled for release in 2021. So also has a strong social media presence especially when it comes to talking about movies, supporting her Korean American community in Los Angeles, and also expressing her love of all things K-Pop related. Nick Naveda's debut feature film Say You Will was a favorite of mine from the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival. As a matter of fact, I liked it so much I took advantage of an opportunity to sit down with him and two of the producers to discuss the film and then this year asked him to be on my podcast to discuss the new film Words on Bathroom Walls which he wrote the screenplay for. After watching Yellow Rose during the 2019 Hawaii International Film Festival, I have been wanting to speak with Diane Paragas about this wonderful film so I was super excited when she agreed to be a part of this interview series. This Texas raised, Filipino-American filmmaker was recently selected for Goldhouse’s A100 list of Most Impactful Asians of 2020 and Yellow Rose will be in theaters around the country premiering on October 9th. Nick Naveda Interview for Words on Bathroom Walls
Marc Morin sat down (virtually) with Words on Bathroom Walls screenwriter Nick Naveda to discuss his thoughts on what it meant to tell this story, how the casting came together, and what he wants people to take away from watching the movie.
Words on Bathroom Walls premieres in theaters where available on August 21st. The movie was directed by Thor Freudenthal and features performances from Charlie Plummer, Taylor Russell, Andy Garcia, AnnaSophia Robb, Beth Grant, Devon Bostick, Lobo Sebastian, Molly Parker, and Walton Goggins.
The story: A teenager coping with paranoid schizophrenia hopes his new experimental drug treatment will help him navigate high school and the outside world.

S01/E10 - Diversity in Film: A Conversation with AnnaLynne McCord
TwoOhSix.com presents the first ever TwoOhSix Podcast Series, Diversity in Film: Conversations from Within the Industry. AnnaLynne McCord is an American actress, writer, director and producer. She is a model, a TEDx speaker, an advocate, and an activist. My conversation with AnnaLynne goes deep into her own personal journeys with diversity in film, mental health, and sexual assault and how those experiences have had an impact on her life and career. It was amazing and emotional to listen as she talked about how who she was as a person and what she was going through in life had a major impact and influence on the characters she created for films like Excision and A Soldier's Revenge.
AnnaLynne also discusses her involvement in the global fight against human trafficking as a co-founder of Together1heart with Somaly Mam as well as the upcoming virtual relaunch of The Love Storm. Human trafficking is a cause I feel very strongly about having participated in fund raising efforts a few years ago so having an opportunity to speak with AnnaLynne about that and about diversity in film was an opportunity I am very thankful to have had. Overall, this was such an honest and intimate conversation about some very important topics and also a perfect way to wrap up this interview series.

Tim Hall aka The People's Critic has been a long standing member of the Seattle film community and is one of the first people that I got to know as I stepped into that world. Tim's expertise in film points to genres like science fiction, horror, fantasy, and just about anything that was ever popular during the VHS era of the 1980's to the point where he has become an integral part of the ongoing Made in the 80's Podcast. One of Don's most recent efforts is a documentary about the life of songwriter Howard Ashman which will be debuting on Disney+ some time in the near future.
