#16 How traveling solo will change your mindset with Tara Donnino
Tara’s story is both inspiring and educational... and potentially terrifying if you’re not big on taking risks.
We talk about how she went from playing pool nearly every night of the week, with the hopes of perhaps even playing professionally, to contemplating a move to an entirely different country with no plans for a return flight back home.
In that time span we cover relationship crossroads, how to manage the logistics of traveling solo, pushing against “The American Dream”, safety concerns as a female and even what you’ll probably be thinking about when you’re 80 years old.

#15 Why investing in yourself is good for business with Shyam "Snad" Anand
If you’ve ever given any thought to a career in the music industry, you know that despite your dreams of making it big in the music business, it’s downright hard.
In fact, you might actually have a better chance winning the lottery, but that ultimately depends on what your definition of “making it” looks like.
Is it lots of money? Fancy cars? Traveling the world? Living your passion?
If it’s money and cars you might be fighting an uphill battle. But if it’s the latter, you could be closer to the limelight than you think.
DJ Snad shares the truth about your “big break” and how you can weave together passion and practicality to support a lifestyle you can be proud of.

#14 Why you should remember your inspiration with Charles Catchings
If you’ve always known exactly what you’re supposed to do in life, then there’s a really good chance that you haven’t tried to do it yet.
Most of us tend to stumble through life, jobs, and unforeseen circumstances that push us around until our paths eventually begin to take shape and make sense.
Addictions counselor and founder, Charles Catchings, knows this better than most as his personal experience with abuse, drugs and alcohol, and mental illness could have derailed him from the path he’s on now.
Instead, rather than a crystal clear and detailed plan for life, Charles has more of a compass that he uses to navigate the twists and turns that come along with building a business, raising a family, and living dare I say, a Venture Life.

#13 How to build something bigger than yourself with John Allen
Former Navy SEAL John Allen credits much of his success (and his life) to having the help and support of a strong and capable team around him, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing.
From barely getting into college to taking a grenade in combat, it’s fair to say John has had his share of road bumps.
After being injured fighting in Afghanistan, John was unexpectedly medically retired and left desperately searching for what his next steps might be.
A chance encounter with the future co-founder of Elite Meet led to scaling a single networking event into an organization that has provided hundreds of other Veterans with new career opportunities, connecting them with high level potential employers.
But it’s actually what John doesn’t do that may be the biggest reason he’s found success.

#7 Why you should live life on the edge with Andrew Miller
If you’ve ever felt like you were stuck in a job or a career that wasn’t a good fit for you, or maybe there was just something that didn’t feel right about it, Andrew proves that you can do something about it.
Having stumbled out of college and into a corporate sales job, Andrew climbed the ladder pretty quickly to build what most would call a successful and stable career. But, after some life altering circumstances he decided to quit his job in order to help a group of guys he’d never met film a documentary on the other side of the country over the course of a year.
Today, Andrew is back on the east coast living in Philadelphia and working as a freelance videographer. He’s also the man responsible for editing the short clips that you see on social media for @theventurelife and needless to say, he’s loving the process and the journey.
In this episode you’ll get to hear Andrew’s story of how he came to be where he is today, and what some of the challenges were that he faced along the way.

#6 Inside the relentless mindset with Nick LaToof
In this episode I sit down with Nick LaToof, who is frankly an incredible human being. This guy just lives for adventure. He’s into snowboarding, hiking, traveling, fitness, nutrition, he’s published 2 books and has a third on the way. You’ll get to hear about everything else that he’s currently working on, but really what I think you’ll get the most out of is listening to Nick’s view on life. His mindset, his philosophy, and perspective is what really sets him apart from the rest of the crowd and hopefully you’ll take a piece of that with you to help you stand out too.
When you’re finished listening, make sure to tag @theventurelife and @nlatoof on Instagram if you’re on there to let us know what your favorite part was or what you learned from the most!

#5 Being patient with the process with Danielle Dougherty
If someone’s life could actually be turned into an amusement park ride, it would have to be this episode’s guest, Dani Dougherty. From college student-athlete eyeing up graduate school to teaching snowboarding and white water rafting in Colorado, Dani is the epitome of living life like a story worth sharing.
We discuss camping, the outdoors, and feeling intimidated when you’re just starting something. But if you thought that wasn’t enough to pack into one episode, we also talk about Dani’s business, Balanced Bio. Together, Dani and her mom started this company to sell CBD products for to help people with all sorts of different medical issues, but unfortunately her mom suddenly passed away shortly after getting the business off the ground. Dani shares how she’s handled the situation in her business as well as in her personal life.
Needless to say, we cover a lot of ground in this episode.

#4 Dealing with uncertainty in business and life with Lee Constantine
I’m not kidding when I tell you that I wish we could have spent an entire afternoon recording this episode because as you’ll soon find out, Lee is bursting with so many insights and incredible startup stories. But you probably don’t have time for that, and neither does Lee, as he’s busy working on building his company currently headquartered in Amsterdam.
Lee is the Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Publishizer, a business that helps you go from “I have this idea for a book” to “I’m a published author”. An amazing company with an interesting business model that’s helping so many authors get up and running all around the world, but you’ll just have to listen to get more details from Lee.
In this episode we talk about how Lee traveled all around the globe while working with different start ups and how he eventually landed in Amsterdam building up his team with Publishizer. We also dive into fears and uncertainties that just seem to be so pervasive in life and in business, but I’m hoping that you’ll be able take some of the examples and the stories and really listen to see what applies to your life and your circumstances.
Also if you’re one of those people who feels like you have a book inside of you, just waiting to be written, then you’re going to like what Lee has to say about getting started and getting past some of those obstacles that you might be facing.

#3 How to earn your moment with Hannah Reeves
When we talk about chasing your dreams, it turns out that it’s pretty much always going to be a struggle. There are almost always some obstacles or unforeseen challenges that either steer us in a different direction, or that make us want to quit all together.
But Hannah speaks as if not only is it ok to struggle when you’re supposed to be having the time of your life, but actually for her, she says it just makes it that much sweeter. From conversations about considering law school and how to play with corn, to casually meeting the founder of Xero Shoes (as seen in Shark Tank) and how climbing opened up new opportunities for her, Hannah opens up about life as a self-proclaimed freelance “you name it”.
We also occasionally reference how she recorded this episode in what she called a Harry Potter closet at her friend’s co-working space, just to clue you in.
If you enjoy this episode, the best way to show your support is by sharing it with a friend who you think would benefit from hearing our conversation.

#2 The struggles of startups with Mark Leruste
It’s easy to just trudge along with blinders on while we avoid either taking the leap and jumping out of the security of a conventional career, or sometimes we avoid painful yet telling truths about who we really are and where we’re really going. Mark effortlessly navigates these difficult kinds of topics and pierces through all of the noise and chatter to really speak straight to your heart.
A bit of backstory about Mark, he spent nearly a decade in the corporate world and most recently was the Country Manager for the Movember Foundation in Europe, where he raised €2.8 million for men’s health in the fight against cancer. Now Mark is the founder and host of The Unconventionalists, a startup and podcast, where he delivers talks, workshops, and programming for purpose-driven leaders and organizations. I’ve been lucky enough to work with Mark starting in 2018 and consider him not just a client or a colleague, but also a mentor and a friend.
In this episode Mark kicks us off with a first time confession before diving into the stories that he and so many others bought into while he was still figuring out what his real calling was. He shares a surprising twist about how to find financial freedom and we also talk about the world of being a first time parent.
If you like what you hear in this episode, please leave a rating and review on iTunes, or wherever you listen to your podcasts, it’s really the best and simplest way to help more people just like you to hear these powerful conversations and hopefully together we can lift those people up.

#1 Being honest with yourself with Kevin Cox
Middle school math teacher by day and musician by night, Kevin Cox joins The Venture Life podcast as our very first guest. Laughs, goosebumps, and some hard truths are all part of this candid conversation as we uncover what exactly the zone of proximal development is and how math and music are actually related.
As a long-time friend of mine, Kevin graciously allowed me to use his song "Just the Other Day" as the soundtrack for this podcast.
