Masks play a critically important role in safety and health amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.  A good face mask is a crucial tool in helping slow the spread of Covid-19.  Let's aim to minimize the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant and other variants that may be on the horizon.  Health experts have recommended that people switch from cloth masks to more-protective N95 and KN95 masks.  After living with COVID-19 for almost two years, many remain confused about which masks to wear and why.  How can you tell if your mask is authentic?  What is the best mask to use as we enter a new phase in the pandemic?  Is it OK to reuse a high-quality mask?  What does a well-fitted face mask look and feel like?   Listen to this podcast for tips and picks to up your mask game — whether you’re heading back to the office or just want to stay safe while out on the town.  It is important to know that not all masks provide the same level of protection.

Should you gather for the holidays with the omicron and delta variants circulating?  There's concern but not panic.  The omicron variant of the coronavirus is moving faster than surveillance systems can track it and has unnerved some medical experts but three doses of the mRNA vaccine seem to hold up in preventing serious illness and death.  How should we prepare for the holiday season?  What risks are we willing to take?  As The Warnings Doctor, I recommend doing a risk/benefit calculation and ask yourself, Do the benefits outweigh the risks?  That is the type of analysis I perform as an expert witness during the course of litigation as well as in my own life.  This podcast is chock-full of safety tips and real-world examples to help keep you and your loved ones safe.  Wear proven and scientifically tested masks correctly.  Social distance when needed.  Get vaccinated.

Magic cure for Covid-19?  WARNING!  As described in the previous episode of EXPOSED!, Ivermectin does not treat or cure Covid-19. And yet, thousands of our fellow Americans, acting on the advice of right-wing media and politicians, are exposing themselves to illness and death. The Ivermectin "boom" is the product of misinformation in the media - both traditional news media and social media - as some Americans now see a deworming medicine as a go-to drug to prevent and fight the Delta variant.  For example, the alleged wonder pills have been hyped on programs including Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Joe Rogan Experience, and promoted on Facebook through advertisements. Ivermectin is NOT effective against the coronavirus. The largest and most reputable clinical trial to date found the drug offered no clinical benefit whatsoever. The rationale for vaccinations is simple — to keep Americans safe — and the truth is this: everyone is safer when everyone is vaccinated, and vaccines work. And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!

Misinformation is lethal.  As The Warnings Doctor, I’m concerned about the internet running wild with so-called Covid cures like the antiparasitic drug, ivermectin.  Using ivermectin to treat or prevent Covid-19 is up there with swallowing bleach.  It does not work and it can cause serious harm.  The FDA said it received multiple reports of patients hospitalized after taking ivermectin, a drug commonly used in horses, to treat or prevent COVID-19.  “You are not a horse,” the FDA tweeted. “You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.”  Consult your healthcare provider and not Facebook or TikTok when determining what’s best for your health and the health of your family.  The FDA has not authorized or approved ivermectin for use in preventing or treating COVID-19 in humans or animals.  The most effective ways to limit the spread of COVID-19 include getting a COVID-19 vaccine and following current CDC guidance.  Instead of listening to conspiracies online, please follow the data.  (More on this point about misinformation, medicine, and the media in the next episode of EXPOSED!)  Getting vaccinated can help protect you against this deadly virus.  And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!

The coronavirus is spreading rapidly.  As the country experiences a surge in COVID cases, people are rethinking their traditional Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas plans.  If possible, avoid travel and limit celebrations to just those who live within the same household to help control a recent uptick in new coronavirus cases.  Everyone planning to celebrate upcoming holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving should avoid close contact with others, wear a mask, keep 6-feet distance, and practice frequent and proper hand washing.  As with so much else during the time of coronavirus, we can try new, quarantine-friendly ideas to fill in for what we’ll miss.  Doing so may even add new meaning to your holiday while keeping you healthy and safe.  Ideally, we will have an effective vaccine soon and that means by this time next year, we can double our holiday celebrations!  This year, I urge you to play it safe.  And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you will be.
