Ep. 8: Write State of Mind with Kristen Granata

Ep. 8: Write State of Mind with Kristen Granata

We’re back with another one of our segments, Write State of Mind, where we interview authors about mindset, their processes, and their journey. This week we have Kristen Granata! In this episode we discussed:

  • Writing & Anxiety
  • Writing as therapy
  • Self-doubt
  • Perfectionism
  • Continuous education as mindset work
  • Fluidity in writing routines
  • Unhealthy pressure

Kristen Granata is a teacher by day, and an author by night. Known for writing emotional contemporary and new adult romance, she loves creating realistic, flawed characters who struggle through the darkest parts of life and come out stronger on the other side. Kristen is a self-proclaimed “bitter cynic trapped in a hopeless romantic’s body.” Her characters pack a sarcastic punch, make you laugh, make you think, make you ugly cry—and they will always live happily ever after. If you’re a lover of moving, inspirational reads, Kristen’s your girl.

Kristen was born in New York in 1986. She lived there for almost twenty years. She attended community college and became a teacher. Despite her passion for writing, and despite her professors strongly suggesting she become a writer, she took the more sensible route (bitter cynic, remember?) After going through a difficult divorce when she was only twenty-nine, Kristen returned to writing. The raw story that poured out of her led her to publish her debut novel, Collision, in March of 2018.

Kristen openly shares her mental health struggles with depression and anxiety with her Instagram following. Her message is a beacon of hope to anyone who is suffering: You are not alone. She delicately weaves this theme into her writing, and demonstrates the ability of love to heal trauma.

When she’s not teaching or writing, Kristen is reading, Instagramming, indulging in her messy love affair with popcorn, and annoying her wife and step-daughters by incessantly singing along to The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

Kristen hangs out on Instagram, Twitter, her Facebook page, and her website.

Find Kristen’s latest release, What’s Left of Me, along with her other books here.

Ep. 5: Write State of Mind with Kandi Steiner

Ep. 5: Write State of Mind with Kandi Steiner

In this episode, we chat with bestselling author, Kandi Steiner! In this episode we discuss:

  • Fear in terms of writing what scares you and taking leaps into authorship
  • Writing Full-time and the mindset required for that
  • Failure after success and when a book launch doesn’t go as planned
  • Imposter syndrome
  • How Kandi takes care of her mind outside of writing

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die-hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer, and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

If you’d like to start reading Kandi’s books, check out Book one in the Becker Brothers series: Love on the Rocks. You can also visit her Amazon page for more books!

Kandi hangs out on Instagram, Twitter, her Facebook page, and her Facebook group (Kandiland).
