S4 Ep2: Major Victoria Flood - The First Woman in The Royal Mews
My guest today has a career that certainly stands out. Major Victoria Flood is the Commanding Officer of the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
Victoria has had an expansive career in the military, from driving the Queen’s horses on state occasions to being one of the first women to work for the Royal Mews.
After training at Sandhurst, the Royal Military Academy, Victoria joined the royal artillery as a Troop Commander. She served in Afghanistan, where she led soldiers firing long-range missiles in the counterinsurgency campaign.
Victoria’s job has been incredibly exciting – she has travelled extensively, met many high-profile people, and most recently, she hosted Her Majesty the Queen at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE is a prodigy in every sense of the word. Aged 11, she was the youngest girl ever to pass A-level computing and was just 20 years old when she received her Master’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Oxford.
So as I’m sure you can tell, she’s potentially the most intimidating guest we’ve ever had on.
But thankfully, for me (and the rest of young women), Dr Anne-Marie has channelled her wealth of experience and pioneering spirit into co-founding Stemettes, an award-winning social initiative dedicated to inspiring the next generation of young women in STEM. Stemettes has exposed almost 50,000 young people across Europe to Anne-Marie’s vision for a more diverse science and tech community. Anne-Marie was awarded an MBE in 2017 for services to young women in STEM and in 2020 was voted the most influential woman in tech in the UK by Computer Weekly.
Dr Anne-Marie discusses how the world will change when there are 50:50 of men and women in tech, why she started Stemettes and the most important thing you can do to start a successful career.

Daye’s tampons have featured in the FT, Forbes, the BBC and The Guardian and represent a real step forward in improving women’s health across the world.

Helen Pankhurst is a women’s right activist and author of Deeds Not Words, the Story of Women’s Rights, Then and Now. As you may have guessed by her surname, Helen is the great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst and the granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst; the leaders of the British Suffragette Movement.
Helen is the senior advisor to CARE International and in 2019 was appointed a CBE for her services to Gender equality. And every year she leads the International Women’s Day March in London!
In this incredible episode, we discuss why it’s so important that we call ourselves feminists, the changes we need in society to reach gender equality, and passing on the baton to our generation!
