Today, I'm joined by Jay Newman. Jay is the Pit Master at Shotgun Willie's in Nashville, TN as well as the owner of Newman Family BBQ. In addition to BBQ, Jay has a history in ministry and music. He's also an Eagles fan! But today we discuss the idea of Christian Anarchy. Both Jay and I share a bit about our political journeys and how we have found the language of Christian Anarchy to be a faithful attempt at political engagement with the kingdoms of this world. If after this hour you need more talk or more resources on Christian Anarchy, here are three podcast episodes and two books...

This is our fourth episode in the mini series, I Disagree with Dave. You can listen to the previous three here (059 - Hell) and here (060 - Same-Sex Relationships) and here (Theological Grab Bag). Today, I'm joined by Dan Ulrich, man behind @youthgroupmemes, to discuss the nature of healing. When you or someone you know is ill, is that God's will? If yes, well...why? If no and we pray for healing and it doesn't happen, why? Dan and I discuss where we see things differently as we both try to decipher what God is calling us to and how we can be most faithful to his word. We pray this challenges you and encourages you.

This is our third episode in the mini series, I Disagree with Dave. You can listen to the previous two here (059 - Hell) and here (060 - Same-Sex Relationships). Today, I'm joined by Andy Sommers to discuss our theological journeys. Over the 5ish years that Andy and I have known each other, we've both evolved and in different direction. We explore what brought us to where we are and interrogate our beliefs a bit. Andy is in the Reformed/Calvinist camp and so we take a look at some of those teachings specifically and touch on a few issues that have been hot buttons in the Reformed Twittersphere over the last year(s).

This is our second episode in a series called 'I Disagree with Dave.' Today, Alex DeMarco is up and he disagrees with Dave on the nature of same sex relationships. Alex is fully affirming and Dave is not. As two straight men having this conversation, we absolutely wanted to point you in the direction of gay Christians who have wrestled through these topics themselves. Those resources range from affirming to non-affirming as well and you can find them here:

Alex has previous been on two other episodes talking about Christian ethics and the inerrancy of Scripture.

We are now in a time where the church isn’t by default a place people go to find purpose and meaning and pastors are people who are given the benefit of the doubt in being wiser and closer to truth. The question at the core of this reality is how then should Christians operate in a world like this? John and I try to get there...

In this three part series Dave Hallahan, Rob Cook, and Cory Murphy will all take turns answering that question. In a time where so many millennials and Christians of all generations are leaving the faith, why are they still here? This question is obviously deeply subjective and personal. There may be some answers that you resonate with and others that feel like they're answering a different question. But I think we can learn from each other, we can see that God is doing something different in each of us, and this is good.
This week we look at the very not controversial mask and vaccine mandates before talking to Cory about why he is still a Christian.

It's just me today. I recently went and saw Just Mercy, the story of Bryan Stevenson and the Equal Justice Initiative. It was awesome! So I talk a little bit about the movie, the death penalty, and then I get into why I have grown to hold a view of nonviolence. It's not something I have always held to, but it is something I hold to now. I would go so far as to say it's obvious to me now. But there is certainly grace for those who disagree. Give a listen and tell me why I'm wrong! We'll fight about it.

Thinking Out Loud is a place to digest audibly the things we tend to think through silently. We'll look at a variety of complex issues from a variety of points of view, not necessarily to get to "right answers" but to build empathy and perspective.

Jason Soucinek, Executive Director and Founder of Project 619, joins me to discuss our current sexual culture and what God's word has to say about it. Christians are often louder on what they are against than what they are for, but a biblical sexual ethic has a lot of positive things about sex and sexuality. Jason and Project 619 are seeking to lead the conversation with that. Sex, after all, was God's idea. Listen to hear how we can work to change the narrative and lead people to a life or relationship that is ultimately life-giving.

I'm joined by John Galante (Hell of a Conversation, Avengers:Endgame) to discuss the book of Hebrews. That's right, we believe it is the most underrated book of the NT and we are here to tell you why. Also...what do we do with that pesky Old Testament and all those rules? Well, I think the author of Hebrews has some opinions on that. So if you don't like our conclusions, go read Hebrews for yourself. You are welcomed to disagree, but the OT definitely gets dragged in Hebrews.

This is recording of a message I gave at Hope Christian Fellowship. It is also, in some ways, a follow up to the previous podcast episode. I feel like I'm being led into weakness in multiple areas of my life. That is an uncomfortable feeling, but I think it's right where God wants all of us.

There will be tears. Maybe only mine, but tears nonetheless. Leah said it would be a good idea to record a conversation with me on fatherhood. It was therapeutic for me and hopefully there is something in here for you.

Today's episode is the first addressing the "Problem Passages" you sent in. I'll take a look at some overall themes we should keep in mind while reading scripture and then take a closer look at Jonah. How literally should we read it and how does that decision effect the point of the book? For follow up on Jonah check out the links below:

Former Penn State University and NFL running back, Larry Johnson, joins me to discuss the deep dives he's taken into conspiracy theories and the role his faith has played in them. I share my skepticism and how conspiracy theories have real life consequences and, for Christians, often distract us from pursuing Jesus.
If you're so inclined here are two articles on Christians and Conspiracy Theories and if you're into hearing about potential conspiracy theories and have a lot of time there's a podcast down there I used to listen to that takes some really deep dives...
