The Reelgood Podcast

It's the big episode before we take a little break in time for Sean to move. As with all fond farewells, we had beers, discussed how bad Army of the Dead was and took sides on whether Cruella was dog turd or not. In between we also talk absolute nonsense because well, alcohol. Give it a listen why don't ya?

All is not well in the state of The Reelgood Podcast. Just as we're lining up our scheduled trips back to the cinema, turns out Glasgow is gets held back another week, and neither of us are too happy about it. As a result, we said balls to everything and went into this podcast without a care or a plan to be had because that's just how we roll. Naturally the hopes for finally seeing a cinema screen are discussed, along with the dream cast building for Knives Out 2. Sean finally pops his Cherry and we talk about the show that is making TV worthwhile again - The Mare of Easttown. Somewhere in between I talk about steak, and Sean blows my mind regarding the Kevin Bacon family tree. It'll all make sense in the end. Kinda. 

Sean and Nick have had one hefty viewing session across the streams this week. Firstly they’ve gone into Amazon’s latest action-fest Without Remorse to see if it’s got franchise potential, and Sean sings high praises of Netflix’s sci-fi starring Anna Kendrick, Stowaway.

On the rather odd side of things Nick explains why The Mitchells vs The Machines might be one of the best you’ll see this year, and the title fight of the evening is set between Kate Winslet’s gripping new drama Mare of Easttown and uh…Call the Midwife. Choose your fighter, folks.

Nick and Sean are back with a vengeance and ever so excited that we might be in a cinema again soon. Before that though, the lads break down the latest trailer for the hard-hitting realistic take on car theft and space travel that is F9: The Fast Saga. There's also Snyder's second go at the undead on the way in Netflix's Army of the Dead, and there's official Reelgood verdicts on a pair of 5-star pearls; The Sound of Metal and Promising Young Woman. On top of that Nick shares what fondness he has for Love and Monsters, as well as a trip to White House Farm. Give it a listen now.

We're back from outer space with all manner of movie madness to pick apart as per. Firstly we talk about what the future holds for Ghost of Tsushima on the big screen as well as how great another attempted Suicide Squad looks. We also finally delve into that long anticipated and frankly overly long superhero epic that is the Snyder Cut of Justice League, as well as Falcon and the Winter Soldier. There's also a high level of excitement for the return of Line of Duty and Sean takes us through his journey of hate rewatching True Blood before he goes back to work. 

Spider-Man has no way home, Superman has a reboot, and Sean has no time for Tom Hardy growling at people in films anymore. Just another regular Reelgood Podcast. This week we discuss what the future looks like for web-slingers and Kryptonians, what level of gore we can expect in the new Mortal Kombat film, and what listening devices Netflix are using to make the perfect film for Sean. Nick breaks down what went wrong with Capone, what is an acceptable time limit to give a film before turning it off (blasphemy, we know), and why we always stay turned on when it comes to Steven Spielberg. Yes, we know exactly how that sounds.

We recorded on Valentines Day and love was in the air for Pedro Pascal, but not so much for Gina Carano. Following the news of one getting the boot from The Mandalorian and the other getting the go-ahead to join HBO’s long awaited adaptation of The Last of Us, we talk about what fame does to people and get some PR pearls of wisdom from Uncle Sean on the matter. We also try and decide the new look of Jared Leto’s Joker for the Snyder Cut of Justice League, and we pay a visit to Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel to see if it’s worth your stay. Most importantly, we finally reveal the winner to our Star Wars competition and find out who is going home with a fancy new Star Destroyer. Don’t ever say we don’t give you stuff.

Well it's a milestone for us this week. Not only have we passed our 1k play mark thanks to you lovely lot, we're giving the podcast a little bit of a revamp. We're going to be releasing the podcast on a bi-weekly basis in future until things get back to normal, but don't fret, we're still going to be churning out nonsense for as long you want it. We also have the debut of the third member of the Reelgood Podcast that's been behind the scenes cutting out all of Sean's mic taps and trimming Nick's film rants down to a tolerable length - credit for the edit, Craig Hogg. Breaking him in to the regular Reelgood madness, we get his thoughts on the new Godzilla vs. Kong trailer, what the heck is going on with WandaVision, and his first time reaction to absolute classic, Silence of the Lambs. On top of that we've also got a brand new giveaway exclusive for podcast listeners this week to win a gorgeous bit of Star Wars art. Get. Stuck. In.

This week the Marvel drought finally lifts and the boys get to see what's going on over at WandaVision's new place at Disney+. They also get excited about a FIGHT! starting with Mortal Kombat and the potential return of Captain America (or maybe someone else. entirely). Also in a benchmark moment of our times the lads struggle to agree if One Night In Miami is worth the stay, and they also bask in the splendour of a new hero. from 2021:  Captain Average.

Language gets a bit more colourful than usual this week, after the Reelgood lads discuss what they learned about after studying The History of Swear Words from Netflix (shock, Sean didn't study for it). We also talk about two competing lockdown films on the way, and after his birthday this week, which is our favourite Nicolas Cage movie. Somewhere along the way we talk about what we can't wait to get back to once all this is over, and why everyone remembers that Marilyn Manson myth when we were kids. 

Recorded right in that sweet spot of post-NYE positivity and before nothing bad was going to get announced again, Sean and Nick look back on the year that was and the films that came with it, trying really hard not to dampen the mood, but quickly realising that horror made the most of 2020. Looking forward, Sean also gave his verdict on how far the Lothbrok name has come in the final season of Vikings that arrived on Amazon Prime recently, and Nick waxed on and off, and on, and on, and on about Netflix's third season of Cobra Kai. 

We didn't think we'd have time to do a podcast over the festive season, but then Sean got put in isolation, he needed contact with the outside world and well, here we are. We talk plans for a Wonder Woman threequel, Cobra Kai striking back early, and we give our verdict on Pixar's new Disney+ movie, Soul. We also pick apart The Mandalorian finale, and what's on our must-watch list of 2021.

Strap in, because this week (as you'd expect if you've not been under a rock), we go through just about everything that made us lose our Star Wars-loving, Marvel-gushing, Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear? Wtf-in' minds. Along with that, we also give ourselves another round of that classic brain scratcher of a game that is hard to explain but dead easy to play, 'We Could Be Heroes'. 

Yeah, we’re thinking we’re back. We return for the Reelgood Podcast; one even geekier than before, and the other now a Dad buying things from Amazon he really doesn’t need. We’re applying kid gloves this week as we get back into the swing of things, have a catch up, talk about what we’ve been watching and rinse each other like we’ve never been away. In between that, we also talk about the recent creeping developments with the Metal Gear Solid movie, discuss how HBO may have just flipped the script on the film industry forever, and if a good football series exists. Also, as it is the season to be jolly, we also compile our best Christmas movie list leading Sean to admit that he actually hates Muppets and as a result, has no soul.

This week rolls in with some sad news following the passing of Sean Connery, and our Sean shares his thoughts on the late acting legend (he means well, honest). We also predict what could be In store when Moon Knight arrives on Disney+, what an Assassin's Creed show from Netflix looks like, and why Y: The Last Man might be FX's next big hit post Walking Dead. As for reviews, we give the new episode of the fresh new season of The Mandalorian a once over, and have a dose of nasty nostalgia thanks to The Craft. We also take a trip down memory lane trying to recall our favourite Halloween costumes, and randomly decide on who we'd take for a pint.

This week we're heading into Uncharted territory following the release of the first fresh look at the new adaptation of the popular videogame. We also try and figure out what tricks are up Jared Leto's sleeve as he reprises his role as The Joker for Justice League: The Snyder Cut and we say 'I do' to the announcement of Scarlet Johansson taking on the role of The Bride of Frankenstein. Along with that, we give our verdict on Borat: Subesquent Moviefilm now that are ribs are on the mend, and we take a trip down memory lane for blood, guts and eyebrows that join in the middle for Neil Marshall's werewolf classic, Dog Soldiers. All that and Nick still finds time to bring back a forgotten classic, We Could Be Heroes. Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough.

Sean and Nick are back to pick apart some big goings-on in the movie world this week. After considering what a new Mad Max instalment will be like without Tom Hardy or Furiosa, we consider how big the red carpet is going to need to be for Netflix's all-star world-ending Adam McKay flick, Don't Look Up. We also see how Joaquin Phoenix would measure up as Napoleon Bonaparte in Ridley Scott's recently announced biopic and what a stand-up show with Jesus would be like. As for reviews, the lads have vivid flashbacks to the debut horror from Rose Glass, Saint Maud, Nick weeps about how Pixar got their Soul back, and after going on record for The Trial of the Chicago 7, we give a rundown on some of film's flimsiest accents from over the years. Yes, of course Mr Van Dyke got a mention. 

Things get quizzical as Sean takes on a brain busting challenge that leads him to rethink Nick's position of BFF (which he didn't want but whatever). The boys also talk about, well The Boys, Bly Manor, what kind of monster would punch Rick Moranis, and what horrors are in store for the new take on Resident Evil. We also wonder how James McAvoy is going to make a film with no script, and how we're going to go another year without The Batman. Most importantly, we dust off another classic from our Reelgood Recommendations in the form of The Breakfast Club. 

It's a rollercoaster of emotions this week, as we mourn the closure of Cineworld and give our thoughts on what the future of cinema looks like following recent events. Sean gets excited about what could be involved in the making of a film about the making of The Godfather, how Jamie Foxx will be charging back up as Electro in the next Spider-Man film, and we predict how high the cringe levels will be for the return of Borat following the new trailer. Nick also warns Sean what to prepare for with Netflix's upcoming spine-chiller The Haunting of Bly Manor, and we talk about how sometimes the perfect way to end a film is to let it ride out.

Greetings our most excellent friends. This week we finally catch up with the Wyld Stallyn's in Bill and Ted Face The Music and it gets a special kind of rating on the Carney Cackle-meter. We also get very excited about the brand new trailer for season 2 of The Mandalorian, and try and figure out where She-Hulk will be set to land in the MCU on Disney+. Nick also gives his verdict on Shudder's recent addition, Spiral and Sean takes time to put his brain back together over 1987 thriller No Way Out starring Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman. A most eclectic and outstanding podcast episode that we hope you'll have a most triumphant time with.
