080 Principalities and Powers Pt. 1 Revisit

This teaching will address what the Bible refers to as principalities and powers. The "Principalities'' (Latin: principatus), also translated as "Princedoms" and "Rulers", from the Greek archai, pl. of archē (see Greek root in), are the angels that guide and protect nations, or groups of peoples, and institutions such as the Church. The Principalities preside over the bands of angels and charge them with fulfilling the divine ministry. There are some who administer and some who assist. The Principalities are shown wearing a crown and carrying a sceptre. Their duty also is said to be to carry out the orders given to them by the upper sphere angels and bequeath blessings to the material world. Their task is to oversee groups of people. They are the educators and guardians of the realm of earth. Like beings related to the world of the germinal ideas, they are said to inspire living things to many things such as art or science.

What You Will Hear

  • Welcome
  • Examples of principalities.
  • A principality is defined as: A state ruled by a prince, usually a relatively small state or a state that falls within a larger state such as an empire.
  • Principalities and powers are not demons, they are fallen angels. Fallen angels have a much greater level of authority than demons.
  • A principality is actually the seat of authority or the region that the fallen angel has authority over.
  • Satan’s rebellion. Samel.
  • Revelations is about past, present and future.
  • The angels have not yet fallen and been confined to the earth.
  • The great tribulation.
  • Principalities still hold power and authority.

067 Call To Forgive Pt. 6

067 Call To Forgive Pt. 6

FORGIVENESS IS CONTINUAL

For Christ, there is no point beyond which our accumulation of sins becomes unforgivable. So, our response is to forgive others, as there is no cap, or limit, or expiration to forgive. As followers of Christ, neither the intensity of, nor the number of wrongs should have an impact on us. If we were to place a limit, then our effect of building relationships would have a chain attached to it, instead of having a chain reaction to grow. With a limit, you cannot grow. We must have the realization and capacity to understand how much we have been forgiven by Christ in order to forgive each other; this is crucial to the Christian experience.  As our Lord continues to give us grace and forgiveness, are not we to do the same with each other? We show ourselves to be extremely selfish and prideful when we do not practice continual forgiveness!

What You Will Hear

  • Review
  • We must be willing to forgive as Christ has forgiven us
  • Continual forgiveness
  • Knowledge brings responsibility
  • What forgiveness is not
  • What must we forgive?
  • Forgiveness does not minimize the offense
  • Just forgiving the offender will not bring instant restitution of the relationship
  • Forgiveness is directed to people, not causes or institutions
  • Walking through the steps of forgiving and forgetting

069 Call To Forgive Pt. 8

069 Call To Forgive Pt. 8

The Biblical Steps in Forgiving

Forgiveness is a risky business. The person who we choose to forgive may not realize, or admit to the wrong. Nor will they always accept our forgiveness. But, their response is not our responsibility; we are only to be obedient to our Lord, and give the forgiveness out of love, not expecting a warm response. Remember back in episode 3 or 4 about That Elder who refused to forgive the minister for a perceived wrong he did to him is responsible for his actions to the Lord, not the minister. The minister is responsible for their response. So, the minister sought forgiveness, and he refused. That is a risk we all have to take. Also, the person who we forgive may continue in the offense, such as that Elder who kept spreading rumors about the minister. He refused to stop; but, again, this is not the responsibility of the minister. We are to allow others the freedom to disappoint us and to fail our expectations.

What You Will Hear

  • Know what Christ did for you.
  • Forgiveness releases the guilt, and stops the cycle of bitterness and dysfunction.
  • We must be willing to take the risk.
  • We need to cancel the betrayal.
  • We have to give up our perceived right of revenge and retaliation.

068 Call To Forgive Pt. 7

1st) Forgiveness is Hard 2nd) Forgiveness is Complete 3rd)Forgiveness is Costly 4th) Forgiveness pursues  5th) Forgiveness is continual

How do I know I have forgiven someone properly?

When you feel compassion toward the person who wronged you, then you can be assured you did truly forgive them. Let these Scriptures impact and change you to the core of your being. Let the power of prayer be your focus, and the Scripture your heartbeat.  Our standard is not that of the world, but that of God. We would not want to go through life in misery and bitterness, remembering those who wronged us, harboring grudges, and experiencing unhappiness. This is not the plan that Christ has for us! Bitter people have no impact for the kingdom of God except to cause division and distraction. They have the tenacity and drive to show everyone the hurts and wrongs they suffered. Do not let this happen to you, or to the people around you. Take your lead from this verse, not your inclinations.

We forgive because God has forgiven us. If we do not, the resentment will build and build-like battery acid that slowly eats away a car-until, unless we fix it, it will destroy us.  Even secular psychologists tell us that resentment is the most powerful, self-destructive emotion in our arsenal. Will you allow forgiveness to build, or bitterness to destroy your relationships and life?

What You Will Hear

  • What forgiveness looks like.
  • A new command: As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
  • Questions to ask ourselves.
  • Realizing the generosity of grace.
  • Forgiveness is hard to accomplish in the human experience.
  • Avoidance and revenge.
  • God is governed by righteousness; whereas, desires and emotions drive us.
  • God has a moral and virtuous purpose; our purpose is self-seeking
  • God's primary purpose in our lives is to bring us out of our self-destructive and self-seeking nature, and into the reclamation of redemption in Him; this is the work of Christ.
  • God's thoughts are beyond our comprehension and imagination; therefore, we should rely on Him, and not on ourselves.

061 Disciplines of Faith Pt. 22

061 Disciplines of Faith Pt. 22

The Discipline of Service

The Discipline of Service means we are committed to serving others as Jesus called and exemplified. Our service is a response as we look at what we do. This is not about salvation; it is about our response to God. This is about duty; it is about allowing our love for the Lord to backwash us, that is, to flow in us from Him and then to others around us. Service builds and prepares us to be stronger in character and in fulfilling our responsibility for His Kingdom. Service also nurtures and strengthens us as a means of grace; as we grow, we serve. The more we serve, the more Christ-like we become. This is about using the best of what God has given to us, being obedient to Him, and serving Him. We are all called to serve, not as just pastors or Christian professionals, but as our relationship with Christ is woven into all that we do in life.

What You Will Hear

  • What service is.
  • What Service is not.
  • The dangers of not applying what you learn in church.
  • Do you just use people or do you serve them?
  • How we can practice this discipline.
  • What happens when we do not practice this discipline.
  • True service is a response and gratitude.
  • Service is not about what we get; it is what we have already been given and what we will do with it
  • Hospitality
  • Learning and applying our spiritual gifts.
  • Kindness is the proof of authenticity
  • The discipline of dervice is not to please people, but to please God with all our heart.

The Discipline of Solitude

The Discipline of Solitude is the practice of our "waiting for God" to act and complete His will, so our focus is on Him and then He fills us. This is an aspect of private prayer and worship, but instead of doing the talking we cling to Christ in silence and do the listening. This means we still ourselves to hear what God has to say. This is about our willingness to be examined by God, to hear His voice and see His call because we have moved anything that is in the way of Him.  For this to happen we must still our rashness and busyness so the center of our being, our mind, will and emotions is focused on Christ and His will. Our will and desires are the things that have all of our attention and direction that need to be quieted before our Holy Lord so He can fill us up. It is all about Him and not about me! In this way, The Holy Spirit can motivate and also examine our attitudes, to see if there is room, (and there should be lots of it) for improvement in our relationships with both God and those around us!

059 Disciplines of Faith Pt. 20

The Discipline of Surrender means we trust our Lord Jesus Christ in all things without doubt or fault in our faith. We let go our hold on our perceived rights, agendas, and opinions that are not lined up to His. The Discipline of Surrender is a discipline because we have to make it a daily decision and practice. It is something we may never prefect, but we can aim our best to carry it out. It comes to us when we are willing and able to "cast all your anxiety (that is, our cares) on Him." (1 Peter 5:7) This denotes being active in our faith with humility and dependence on Him, so we trust God to direct our lives. We are benefited and liberated when He is in control, and we need not worry or fear. Take a careful look at this Discipline of Surrender from God's most precious Word.

The Discipline of Obedience Pt. 2

This Discipline of Obedience shows our worship and appreciation to Christ by our identifying with Christ as our Lord. Obedience is not just in words, but also in deeds that demonstrate our words through practice and action. When we read and/or hear the Word of God, we will have the desire and heed the call to put it into action. There will be times we do not feel like it, but our obedience will override our feelings so that we remain steadfast and secure. This helps us see what is important in life. It helps us become more established and grow us further and firmer in the faith as all the Disciplines do. But this one is the clincher; it is the application of all the Disciplines.

What You Will Hear

  • What is Discipline.
  • Relationships and obedience.
  • Man made things aren’t made to last.
  • Practicing obedience.
  • Societal influence and false devotions.
  • Commitment. Faith, hope and love all working together and standing in expectation.
  • The Discipline of Obedience helps us keep our eyes on God.
  • Obedience is not based on human recognition but on heavenly endowment.
  • We must make a conscious decision to give ourselves to Christ.
  • It's not what we do that makes us a Christian; it's what Jesus has done for us.
  • Thoughts on Obedience.
  • By our obedience in faith, we may suffer temptations, trouble, persecution, and condemnation from the world, but he will remain faithful.
  • The cost of obedience.
  • Connecting with God.

Discipline of Obedience

Is the Discipline of Obedience Working in You?

The Discipline of Obedience is the practice of our pure loyalty to our Lord to go all out in faith. It helps us focus on Him and what He has done for us so we change from the inside out, our inward renovation becoming Christ-like to undergo His will, mind, and precepts. Obedience means having perfect confidence in Christ so we daily present ourselves to God as our LORD. We are essentially putting our faith into practice. We carefully seek what God requires of us and then align our lives with Him and His standards and call to the best of our ability. We seek Him first, not what interests or pleases us or others' demand of us. This Discipline is used by the Spirit to inspire us to keep our Lord first and foremost, cleaving to Him, regardless of the circumstances, so we will be able to keep His precepts and be loyal to His call. This helps us see our sinful nature and how Christ has rescued us from self destruction so we will know from whence we came and have no desire to go back. We are enabled by the Spirit and the cooperation of our faith to stick with Him even in times of dire suffering. This Discipline also helps us with our interpersonal relationships by recognizing authority and direction from others, such as the pastor and church, so the results will be winning situations.

What You Will Hear

  • Recap: What is Discipline and the different disciplines.
  • Discipline of Obedience scripture.
  • Questions to ask yourself about obedience.
  • What obedience is and what obedience is not.
  • Raging euphoria and enthusiasm for God.
  • What happens when we do not practice this discipline?
  • The synergy and effects of submission, surrender and obedience.
  • Synergism vs Monergism
  • Obedience is not just a synonym to Surrender or Submission; it is more of a continual application of our faith

The Discipline of Submission PT. 2
Unity Through Humility. The Discipline of Submission will greatly enhance, for the better, our attitude toward God, which will greatly affect our attitude in how we communicate and act with others. We learn this by our humility through the Work of the Spirit spurred on by the spiritual disciplines of being in His Word, and practicing before God our dependence on Him, seeking His will, and being in prayer. Our motivation is to be the realization that we are saved by grace, and kept by His love. This is a Discipline because we have to continually work at it. It does not just happen on its own; something astounding must take place within us to transform us. In other words, we must become the people of God in order that we can be capable and willing to do the work of God. Our relinquishment of our will to His is paramount to making this happen.
What You Will Hear
Effect of the practicing the discipline of submission.
Pride and submission.
Giving things over to Christ.
The ability to choose submission.
Attitude of humility.
Different areas of submission.
Submission as a Marriage.
Submission as a Leader.
To grow and to be mature and faithful requires us to work on our willingness to submit and to be humble. The result is respect, cooperation, unity, community, and the power of His Fruit at work.

055 Disciplines of Faith Pt. 16

The Discipline of Submission

The Discipline of Submission means having the willingness to voluntarily submit to Christ and also to others in authority. Thus, we make a commitment and resolve to yield our will, mind, and body for God's purposes so we can better hear, receive, and obey His Word. It is a call to submit and a Discipline because it takes our effort, even though we are not required to do so. When we are submitting to others, we are also submitting and serving Christ as Lord (Col. 3:23-24)! It is an aspect of the surrender of our lives to God so we are in His will. Because Submission is respect, it is not to exceed the parameters of the will of God or of love and righteousness.  This Discipline of Submission is more about our interpersonal relationships and how we humbly reverence God, whereas Surrender is how we should come before God, which we will address in the next DOF study. The application is for our benefit. In our churches, when we are under the leadership of those who are more mature and respect others' leadership, we will learn and grow more. In so doing we will become a better, healthier church. This will also affect our home life and relationships as we will show love and respect thus creating harmony and contentment.

What You Will Hear

  • Welcome and review
  • Examining your life. Questions and Passages to reference.
  • What submission is and what it isn’t.  Use and misuse.

Is The Discipline of Gratitude working in you?

The Discipline of Gratitude means we are practicing and producing an attitude of Gratitude, of being thankful, even when we cannot see what we have. This is an aspect of our worship of Christ-expressing to Him our appreciation and reverence for how He has benefited our lives. We are grateful because His blood has redeemed us. This also has a relational application in that it helps us deal with others as we show our support, appreciation, and benevolence to them for how they have benefited our lives.

The Discipline of a Kingdom Mentality

Is the Discipline of Kingdom Mentality Working in You?.

The call for us is to implement this Discipline so our church can be a good and productive church that builds the kingdom of God and to have our mindset centered to make Him known in ourselves. Then, we can, from the fallout of this discipline, be encouraging and edifying to one another, our neighborhood, and world. Our understanding of Christ and who we are in Him will help sustain us and direct us in the right direction to be good stewards of His Church. As a result, we can and will center our motivations and directions on Christ alone.

What You Will Hear

  • Discipline is a regimen, something you exercise daily.
  • A healthy church depends on putting Jesus first.
  • The role of the church as a disseminator
  • The importance of organization for purpose and direction.
  • God’s kingdom is about relationships.
  • Taking your faith to a deeper level.
  • Discipline is the key to discipleship

The Discipline of Fullness Part 2

Pastor Waid continues the conversation of the Discipline of Fullness.  Fullness happens when we accept Him; the more we grow in Christ, the more we are filled in and by Him and the Holy Spirit. This also comes down to a choice to be filled more or filled less. Will you be controlled by drunkenness, which is any kind of sin that takes you away from God? Or, will you allow yourself to be controlled by the Spirit?

What You Will Hear

  • We are to be careful how we live so we treat our lives and the lives of others with dignity and respect.
  • Forming Character
  • Fullness creates joy.
  • Joy is a way of being not an emotion.
  • Fullness happens when we accept Him.
  • Self control and any kind of sin that takes you away from God
  • Filling your life up with the wrong things.
  • When we are operating our lives in God's parameters, we are glorifying Him, building His Kingdom, and living in fullness.
  • Real Fullness comes from His company.
  • Understand that God loves you and wants your life to have purpose and meaning.
  • Your character and improving your spiritual life
  • Discipline is key to discipleship

The Discipline of Fullness

Is the Discipline of Fullness Working in You?  The Discipline of Fullness means we are filled with Christ and ruled by Christ. For a Christian, fullness is first seeking Christ and His work in us, so we are pursuing righteousness, and all that is good, as a way to glorify Christ as Lord. This means we are more Christ-aware and less self-aware. Fullness equals personally knowing for certain who we are in Christ, and what He did for us on the Cross-that our confidence comes from knowing who we are as complete in Him. As Christians, we are deeply loved by God; as a result, we are filled with the fullness of God. However, this does not mean we are divine or little gods; it means that we are indwelt by Christ and the Holy Spirit. Fullness equals knowing who you are in Christ and what He did for you on the cross.

What you will hear

  • Questions to ask yourself.
  • Positive examples from Scripture.
  • What fullness is and what fullness is not.
  • What happens when we do not practice the discipline of fullness.
  • Walking in Wisdom.
  • What happens when we understand and practice the discipline of fullness.
  • Further Questions
  • The importance of meditation
  • Fulfillment vs being poor in spirit.
  • He is our fullness

What happens when we practice this Discipline of Meditation?

Biblical, Christian meditation helps us produce a more intimate relationship in Christ so we are not superficial with our faith and study, giving us the ability to trust Him more fully and be extra obedient. This refocuses us from our agendas and thinking and the ways of the world. As a result, we ponder upon God's Word, His nature, His abilities, and His works. Meditation helps us "quiet" ourselves (i.e. the noise of our will and aspirations), so we can think about God. When we have a calm heart, we become better prepared to grow in and know Him, and do the work He calls us to do.  Meditation aligns our thoughts to His Way, helping establish our character and maturity, overcoming our negative thoughts because what we think on is what we behave on; thus, meditation is very important! Meditation helps us to be focused on God's word.

·       What you will hear

  • Meditation is first and foremost our reflection on Christ; it is not just listening to our own needs and desires
  • Meditation is seeking guidance for life in and from God's law rather than in the planning from ours and others sinful nature.
  • It is up to us to meditate and focus our hearts, minds, and souls on who God is by his attributes, by our praise to Him, and by the leading of His Holy Spirit.
  • Meditation slows us down so we can absorb.
  • God means for us to act upon what He reveals to us.
  • How to Begin Meditation
  • Desire - You have to want to seek Him out for a deeper, personal relationship.
  • Decision - Give meditation your priority time.
  • Determination - Make a commitment to focus your thinking upon His Word and on reflection, then resolve to keep it up.
  • Learning to meditate is like learning a new language. It takes time, effort, and use.
  • Expectation- God will be there to receive you
  • Have a place for meditation free from distractions and stress.
  • Meditation is an aspect of worship and prayer.
  • We need time to reflect, ponder, and seek His fellowship so we can be further instructed and empowered to serve and glorify Him more.
  • Passages to begin your meditation with.

The Discipline of Meditation

The Discipline of Meditation basically means we are to focus, ponder, and reflect upon Christ. The discipline aspect of "biblical" Christian meditation means we commit to pay attention to Him, giving Him our total concentration as LORD over us. We are to "contemplate" and "deliberate," which is to put Christ at the center of our attention and will by deliberating on His instructions and comparing them to what comes across our paths in life. This way, we can conform our mindset to replicate His Way, precepts, and call. This will enable us to "rehearse" engaging in spiritual growth so He can communicate with us in order to shape and form us. Meditation helps us in our quest to grow in Him. Thus, we can "weigh" and study what God requires of us; then, by our attentiveness and determination, implement the application of what Christ has for us. Meditation subsequently allows us to become more humble-minded, relational, and active in God so we can be better able to lift our heart, will, thinking, and reasoning over to Him and then be better at reflecting and focusing on Him.

Is the Discipline of Meditation Working in You?

What you will hear

  • How we treat one another.
  • Questions you should ask yourself and actions you should take.
  • ACTS regiments
  • Benefits of meditation.
  • What meditation is not.
  • Ancestors and eastern forms of meditation
  • What happens when we do not practice meditation.
  • Further Questions.
  • Meditation is a crucial exercise that dynamically turns our minds around and over to God's Word and call.
  • Biblical meditation is called for so we can redirect ourselves to Christ; it is the clear-minded, attentive reaction to His instructions such as encountering Him by anchoring ourselves to His Word, pursuing and obeying His principles and applying them to our lives, so they are not just academic ideas but a lifestyle we endeavor and delight to fulfill.

The Discipline of Confession PT.2

How Do I Practice this Discipline of Confession?

The practice of the Discipline of Confession means we are "on guard" with our faith! We can be aware that when we slip, there are others to help catch us. Of course, the key is to be open and honest to face what is seeking to harm us. We also need to beware that sin is usually gradual and we do not notice; sometimes, we do not care or see this as a problem until severe damage is done. So, realize that this is serious business and we need one another!

What you will hear

Rejoicing every day and the purpose of this podcast.

Reviewing past podcast disciplines

Prior to beginning this discipline, seek out some same-gender people who are more mature and/or further in their walk with Christ than you, and ask them to hold you accountable. Perhaps a small group or a mentor will suffice.

Take a look at your conscience and counsel from others, your regret and grief, and your determination to avoid sin.

Sin is gradual

What happens when we practice this Discipline of Confession.

Our confession gives us true piety and holiness as we grow further in Christ.

Confession helps us to see how heinous our rebellion and sin are in God's eyes. God wants us to confess!

We are to also confess our indifference and lack of trust in Him.

Our confession is a starting point to build and develop character, patience, and dependence on God's grace.

There is forgiveness when we fail−and we will!

We need to have the right focus and perspective.

We need not be frustrated or filled with worry when we have Christ.

We have to make a commitment to acknowledge our fallen nature, and be willing and able to confess our sin and repent.

Ten Commandments, the Fruit of the Spirit and "the flesh" are excellent templates to use as tools for our assessment.

046 Disciplines of Faith Pt. 7

Is the Discipline of Confession Working in You?

The Discipline of Confession is the event of responding to the Gospel's message, then acknowledging our faith publicly. It is the obedience to commit ourselves to leading a life that is worthy to be called Christian, as our new life is in Christ. So, is your life worthy? What do you want to do in your life? Does it correspond to God's Word? The Discipline of Confessions will also allow us to recognize, then confess our sins to God and allow others to hold us to it. His work is there; the question is, will we respond to it by faith? Confession will motivate us to yield to the work of the Spirit within us. Our confession helps remove the blockage and allows His work to flow.  We have to be willing to declare: I, as a follower of Christ, bought and paid for by His shed blood, must acknowledge my own sinful nature. If this is not in your practice and in your mindset, you will fall way short of His plan and possibly even His redemption for you. The Discipline of Confession will allow us to take a hard look at ourselves and hear what others say, so we can better give ourselves over to Christ as Lord.

What you will hear

  • How do I exhibit a life of confession in my daily life now
  • What can I do to better be willing, in discipline, to be a person who confesses to God, and also to allow trusted others to hold me accountable?
  • What blocks confession from working and being exhibited in me?
  • How can I initiate confession and be disciplined to continually carry it out?
  • What can I do to make confession function better, stronger, and faster, even in times of uncertainty and stress?
  • What happens when we do not practice this discipline?
  • How would you define The Discipline of Confession? Are you a person who desires to lead a lifestyle that allows the introspection of other mature Christians in your life? If not, why not?
  • What part does confession play in your relationships with church members, friends, coworkers, and family? How does your confession help you make the right decisions?
  • Being willing and able to confess sin will renew your mind and prepare you to be a more effective and used-by-God
  • The Bible clearly states that if you want to be a Christian who gives God glory and pleases Him, you must confess!
  • You can’t exercise faith without discipline.

The Discipline of Repentance Pt. 2

What Happens When We Practice this Discipline of Repentance?

Repentance, when confessed, will show actual changes in the core of who we are-that His way impacts our deeds, attitudes, and behaviors! This change of turning from sin to God should allow us to feel the sorrow of the hurt we caused, not only to ourselves, but also to the people around us, and even God.

What you will hear

·       Repentance, when actualized, will cause us to feel authentic hatred for sin.

·       Our attitude and who we are become new and changed in Christ.

·       The Discipline of Repentance helps us understand our guilt, sinfulness, and helplessness.

·       How we respond to life and other people will be rooted in how we respond to God.

·       Repentance means we do not trust our church or ancestry for salvation. You must profess faith and repentance on your own!

·      The Great Commission centers upon repentance as a precursor to being a disciple!

·       Repentance does not save us; repentance is only the realization of our salvation.

·       Salvation is not logic or knowledge, optimism or wishful thinking. it is the changing of all we are-our goals, aspirations, values, and behaviors-so that we turn a complete 180 degrees from the way we were

·       There is hope in our Lord. He forgives!

·        It is logical and beneficial to be humble in Him!

·       Repentance helps us to "refresh" our memory in Him.

·       If we do not understand what it means to repent, and if we do not practice this discipline, we will then miss the centrality of the gospel message!

Real repentance will entail full, genuine confession, restitution, and the will to turn to Christ, not just as Savior, but also as Lord. This is not just a one-time deed, but also a lifestyle that places Christ first and foremost in our daily lives.

The Discipline of Repentance

Is the Discipline of Repentance working in you? Here is how you can find out. Take a careful look at this Discipline of Repentance from God's most precious Word by examining your life and the passages above. Now ask yourself: How do I exhibit a life of repentance in my daily life now? How can I develop the willingness to be a more disciplined person who will repent to God? What blocks repentance from working and being exhibited in me? How can I initiate repentance, and discipline myself to carry it out? What can I do to make repentance function better, stronger, and faster, even in times of uncertainty and stress?

What You Will Hear

  • The Discipline of Repentance is both a "summons" to seek Him first and a "summary" of the Gospel's impact and "regeneration" upon us so we make a life change in Christ.
  • What happens when we do not practice this Discipline
  • Further Questions to ask oneself.
  • God calls us to authentic repentance and empowers us to do so.
  • How to practice the Discipline of Repentance.
  • Repentance is essential to being a Christian.  It is serious business, as we all need to repent.
  • Repentance and conversion are two different things
  • Once a week, take the time to examine your life fully through prayer and in thought to see if there is any wayward way in you.
  • True repentance requires that if you are in any sin, such as an adulterous association, you must stop it now
  • Remember, He knows us better than we know ourselves.

The ACTS of Prayer Pt. 2

The Lord's Prayer and "ACTS" are meant to guide, help, and center us, keeping us on His track. This is not meant to be a rigid blueprint or for us to have canned prayers; rather, it is a method and guide to help us build our prayer time. This ACTS has been around for many decades and has served many countless Christians well. It should serve you well too! Use this method to ask God for guidance all through the day. Use this as a discipline to praise Him, to be thankful, and to seek needs. Every breath you take, every step you make, and every task you do is to be spent in Him. You are already His child, so live that way as people of prayer. Think about and foresee your day with Him.

What You Will Hear

  • Prayer can meet all things and needs.
  • How would you define The Discipline of Prayer? Are you a person who naturally prays in all situations you face¾from daily life to future activities for your own needs and those of others, too?  If not, why not?
  • What part does prayer play in your relationships with church members, friends, coworkers, and family? If you see a need, do you first pray? If not, what do you do? What should you do?
  • How does prayerlessness counteract prayerfulness? What is the cost to the Kingdom of God when the church does not engage in prayer or teach and encourage its people to be people of prayer?
  • What happens to your relationship with God, with others, and with the opportunities God gives you when you refuse to pray?
  • When have you exercised prayerfulness the most?
  • In what situation did you fail to engage in prayer when you should have?
  • What issue is in your life that would improve with more prayerfulness?
  • What can you do to make sure that prayer is your first response to all thoughts and encounters in your life? What will you do and when will you do it so you can improve your prayer life and relationship with Christ and others?
  • The Discipline of Prayer comes down to our willingness and desire.
  • The Discipline of Prayer does not happen overnight.
  • Break up your prayer times. Spend time with God when you first get up and before bed.
  • Do not be overwhelmed.
  • Concentrate, that is, focus on God. Seek to free your mind of stress, worry, and distractions.
  • Read the newspaper and pray for items regarding your nation, the county in which you live, and your neighbors. Read through the Bible and pray. Use a Bible passage and/or a hymn as prayer templates.
  • Pray out loud.

Scripture

  • Psalm 27:8; Psalm 65:2; Luke 11:1-13; 18:1-14; Heb. 11:6; John 3:30; Colossians 1; 2 Peter 1:5-9

The Acts of prayer

The ACTS of Prayer

The Discipline of Prayer can be best broken down in sub-categories called "A.C.T.S" which is an acronym or axiom that points us to the precepts of prayer-the categories of Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. This is derived from the Lord's Prayer and other Scriptures, and gives us guidelines so we can divide our time with the purpose of being a good steward of our time with Him, and to engage in prayer with a correct devotion and attitude.

What You Will Hear

  • Adoration, means to worship and acknowledge the majesty of God-Praise be to God!
  • Confession. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. This means we are to see our sins and agree with God about the things that we have done wrong.
  • Confession also means we are called to be accountable to one another, to state what we are going through and are struggling with to someone in confidence who will listen and help guide us by His Word.
  • Thanksgiving-for Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. This means in our prayer life, we are to be grateful for what He has done for us and we are to recall all His mercies to us.
  • Supplication, Give us today this daily bread . . . Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one is a fervent, personal petition, letting God know of our needs. This is called petition, which brings our earnest, humble requests before God.
  • Petition is a vital component, but not the only oneWe are to intercede for others, seek forgiveness of our sins, seek His will, and most importantly, we are to praise and adore Him!
  • Make sure you have a well-balanced prayer life that is not selfish, but that also does not ignore your needs.
  • Start to make a prayer list. Pray for others as their needs come to you; pray for your city, state, and country, your leaders, missionaries, government officials, and persecuted Christians in the world, as well as God's for guidance, wisdom, and opportunities for you and your church and all that can come to you, and for you and them to grow and to serve.
  • Be specific and be real!

Scriptures

  • 1 John 1:9; John 17

041 Disciplines of Faith 2

041 Disciplines of Faith 2

The Discipline of Prayer is the intimate pursuit and practice of the personal communication we have available between God and us. It is the spoken and unspoken confession of our Christian faith by engaging and proclaiming our complete dependence upon Christ as Lord over our lives. Prayer is not just a selfish wish list to get God to cater to our needs and whims; rather, a discipline to shape us by what He has revealed, and to grow in faith, character, perseverance, and maturity. Prayer is meant to line us up in Christ and to conform us to Him, so it builds us up in Him.  It makes us willing and able to express praise, worship, seek forgiveness from God, become more sensitive, confess sins, make petitions for one another, and help others to be shaped, too.

Is the Discipline of Prayer Working in You?

What You Will Hear

  • Taking a careful look at the Discipline of Prayer.
  • 1. How do I exhibit a life of prayer in my daily life?
  • 2. How can I better develop a willingness to be more disciplined as a person of prayer?
  • 3. What blocks prayerfulness from working and being exhibited in me?
  • 4. How can I make prayerfulness function better, stronger, and faster, even in times of   uncertainty and stress?
  • So, how do I pray? This is answered in the Lord's Prayer, which gives us the template as an instructional guide.

Futher Questions

  • 1. How would you define The Discipline of Prayer? Are you a person who naturally prays in all situations you face¾from daily life to future activities for your own needs and those of others, too?  If not, why not?
  • 2. What part does prayer play in your relationships with church members, friends, coworkers, and family? If you see a need, do you first pray? If not, what do you do? What should you do?
  • 3. How does prayerlessness counteract prayerfulness? What is the cost to the Kingdom of God when the church does not engage in prayer or teach and encourage its people to be people of prayer?
  • 4. What happens to your relationship with God, with others, and with the opportunities God gives you when you refuse to pray, or feel you have to be self-reliant only?
  • 5. When have you exercised prayerfulness the most?
  • 6.  In what situation did you fail to engage in prayer when you should have?
  • 7. What issue is in your life that would improve with more prayerfulness?
  • 8. Think through the steps you need to take to put prayerfulness into action in a specific instance. For example, what can you do to make sure that prayer is your first response to all thoughts and encounters in your life? What will you do and when will you do it so you can improve your prayer life and relationship with Christ and others?

040 The Disciplines of Faith 1

040 The Disciplines of Faith 1

DISCIPLINE: Activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill; training:

Explore the classic disciplines of the Christian faith from what the Bible has to say, and how these can be effective and effectual tools for our Christian formation as well as our spiritual and relational growth. Our goal here is to get you to think and pray to focus more upon Christ and His Word! Character comes to our disciplined and growing Christian life infused in and by Christ and the outpouring of the Spirit and Fruit. A discipline is a help that builds our spiritual life and maturity so we can better receive the Work of the Spirit and the knowledge of the Word to help us produce character. Thus, the distinction of character comes from our devotional life; discipline is our contribution to our devotional life.

Hopefully, it will be one of that you know our Lord and seek to love and grow in Him. Hopefully, your life and ministry can be about something much greater than yourself or your own thinking; that it is about how to glorify God and enjoy Him so your life is an impact no matter what has happened or will happen.

What You Will Hear

The spiritual exercises we have done are Biblical and are meant as a "tool" to engage the Text with a surrendered mindset to grow deeper. These classic Disciplines are not the non-Biblical "junk" or the mind-numbing mantras or some kind of altered state of consciousness. For these are very dangerous endeavors and will cause dysfunction to your faith and to your church.

The Discipline of Prayer

The Discipline of Repentance

The Discipline of Confession

The Discipline of Meditation

The Discipline of Fullness

The Discipline of a Kingdom Mentality

The Discipline of Gratitude

The Discipline of Submission

Discipline of Obedience

The Discipline of Surrender

The Discipline of Solitude

The Discipline of Service

The Bible warns us that if we do not have self control, we will be slaves to what controls us. Food, lust, money, our words...we can find ourselves overwhelmed with the consequences of not having self control in many areas of life. Being self controlled is the very foundation for living a life of righteousness and selflessness that reflects Jesus and brings glory to God. We have the power to bring sins under control!

If you or someone you know is struggling with self control it's time to get in the Word of God and allow Scripture to change your heart and mind. The Bible has power and when you choose to meditate and memorize verses, you will be reminded of the truth in your moment of losing self control and you will be able to make the right decision! Read these Bible verses about having self control and begin taking small steps each day to bring your thoughts and actions into line with God's plan for your life to live free and fully alive!

How to Share Your Faith! Ch. 3  So, how else can you go about it?

What You Will Hear

  • Philip teaches us How to Witness Effectively.
  • Philip, in the book of Acts, witnessed to the Ethiopian eunuch .
  • Knowing and trusting in God!
  • Faith has to be rooted in you before you can be effective in your witness
  • Our lives must demonstrate that we know Him and that His fruit is working in us-and not rotten fruit! Do you have good character?
  • Being infused with the holy spirit. Do you allow the work of the Spirit within you? This is not a charismatic idea; it is a Biblical point and truth!
  • Witnessing comes from our devotion and love for our Lord, and from being on the lookout for His opportunities. How is your devotional life?
  • You do not need to know all of the answers, but you should know where or how to find them.
  • Learning and using His Word.
  • We must be prepared, starting with our hearts.
  • Growing in Him, that is the key!
  • We are to know Him, and then we are to make Him known! This is our responsibility.
  • As we learn, the Spirit will give more opportunities to share that information with someone, just as He did with Philip.
  • To witness, we need to be usable.
  • Allow God to gift and empower you to be His ambassador!
