Most challenges in life are painful. When we are in the moment, it feels as if it won’t end or we question why we have to go through it. It is not until we pass through that valley that we realize, that what we thought was a set back was more of a set up for better days. #inspiration #philosophy #podcast #life #journal #foodforthought #earl francis #twr #this weeks rehash

What makes life so valuable? Usually we don't know what we got until we are about to or actually lose it. It is not that we take it for granted, it’s more of thinking that whatever it is, will always be there. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase Live in the now and appreciate the moment when we realize what it took to get here and how fleeting this moment is.

Personal Politics
Quite frankly, presidential elections are dramatic and is more of a spectacle than anything else. Politicians will be politicians no matter the party.  What really affects us most are the local laws that our own city and state come up with. Those are what screws with our everyday lives. I often wonder how it would be like if there were no professional politicians. Instead just regular working men and women who volunteer some of their time to actually serve the people.

Remembering the Dead
I guess the concept of people passing is hard for us to grasp because no one really knows what happens after or is there even an after life.  Every tradition has their own version of a world beyond this one and whatever requirements necessary to have a pleasant life there.  I guess that is why we imagine the after life as something like this life because this is all we know.

Which Side are You On?
As much as we would like to seek peace, understand both sides of the argument, at one point or another, sooner or later, we would have to take a side or it will be chosen for us.   It is not until the destruction is brought to our front door do really realize what side are we on.

Fortunate are the people who makes a living out of what they love doing.  Most of us only take on jobs as a means to an end, to pay the bills.  The Karate Nerd, Jessie Enkamp made a good point about people's passions.

How long do we hold on?
Two traveling monks reached a town where there was a young woman waiting to step out of her sedan chair. The rains had made deep puddles and she couldn’t step across without spoiling her silken robes. She stood there, looking very cross and impatient. She was scolding her attendants. They had nowhere to place the packages they held for her, so they couldn’t help her across the puddle. The younger monk noticed the woman, said nothing, and walked by. The older monk quickly picked her up and put her on his back, transported her across the water, and put her down on the other side. She didn’t thank the older monk, she just shoved him out of the way and departed. As they continued on their way, the young monk was brooding and preoccupied. After several hours, unable to hold his silence, he spoke out. “That woman back there was very selfish and rude, but you picked her up on your back and carried her! Then she didn’t even thank you! “I set the woman down hours ago,” the older monk replied. “Why are you still carrying her?”  - by Jon J. Muth from the book Zen Shorts.

Better off Hungry
It turns out, when we have a full stomach, when we are not busy looking for food or surviving the elements, we tend to find other issues and drama to deal with.  Idle hands and minds either tend to create something amazing or commit horrific crimes. That's just how we are I guess.

It starts with US
Black history is American history - Morgan Freeman How does cutting the Police Department's budget solve racism?  Is this how we thank them for protecting us during the riots?  How about taking out the Mayor's protective detail and take him out of his bubble? Racism or Police Brutality?  One is a matter of perception, how we perceive and relate to each other while the other as a matter or training and policy which is far more practical to solve. All this, starts at home.    I think it is more important to make headway in our own house,  by the time the system comes into play, the damage is done - Denzel Washington

Do what you got to do
TV talking heads and politicians keep debating on whether it is a good idea to open up the economy.  Who should make the call, what businesses are to be permitted and so forth.  Keep in mind all these people are getting paid to talk even when they are at home.  None of these people care about our families.  They can careless about the bills that we have to pay.  At the end of it all, we have to decide and do what we got to do to survive.

Beaches that broke the camel's back

All a Matter of Perspective
Ever been in one of those carnival mazes?  Isn't it frustrating to find your way out while in it? Then you look up and you hear your friends trying to coach you on which path to take because they got out before you and they are watching you from a higher point of view.   It’s all just a matter of perspective.

Budget in Lockdown
Lessons Learned in Lockdown:  Budget Not everyone has the luxury of making residual income or working from home.  For those of us who still have to go out and work to make a living, we have to find other ways to ease the burden and one of the lessons learned in this lockdown is how important a budget is so that we could have a "Buffer" and an "Emergency money"  especially for times like this.

Homeschooling during Lockdown
Lessons Learned in Lockdown: Homeschooling All of a sudden all children are now homeschooled even the college students.  It isn't that bad right?   There are a lot of misconceptions about homeschooling and perhaps one good thing out of this lockdown is that people would get to see that it is not how it is portrayed in mainstream media.

Civil Liberties in Crisis
It is a slippery slope when we start giving up our civil liberties.  Is it not the whole point of having a constitution, is to have a guiding principle when the lines get blurry and things get tough. Is safety more important than freedom?

Safety v Economy
As we all go through this ordeal with Covid-19, people are questioning our 45th President's encouragement to open up the Economy and let people start working again.  They are saying that he is dismissing the safety of the people.  I for one am torn.  As much as I'd like to keep myself and my family safe,  I am worried that my shortened work hours would be enough to sustain my family.

All this overload of information on the virus is stressful.  The topic just keeps on injecting itself into our everyday living.  The continues hit on our economy is becoming more scary than the actual virus.   Now it's the anxiety that is sweeping the nation.

Church is a Show Business
People should go to church for god, not for the man at the pulpit or the show on stage nor the ceremonies right?  That may be so, but it sure helps if the one on stage is entertaining or at the very least, interesting.

Be Careful What You Wish For
Thinking about it is the same as wishing for it.  Everything starts from thought, the only problem is, very few of us actually watch what we think.  Just be glad that there is a buffer between thoughts and it's manifestation.  Just imagine the thoughts that pop in our heads.

Kobe 24
NBA players voluntarily took a 24 shot clock violation as a salute to Kobe's death.  People wore their number 24 jerseys and headed to Staple Center to gather and mourn his death as a community.   Kobe's death reminds us to appreciate every moment of our 24 hours, for we'll never know when our shot clock is up.

New California Laws in 2020
My sincere gratitude to those who have listened in.  It has been a year since I started with Anchor.  Thank you. Living with the Walking Dead
Forget about the dead rising back to life,  dealing with the living dead is much more frustrating!   Drug addiction and mental illness  are just political issues until it hits closer to home.   How do you deal with an addict when they become a menace to the community?  Police do not and can not help, that's for sure.  We actually have laws that prevent authorities from forcing these people to seek medical help.   So what are we left with?

The Homeless Industry
What is the connection between the Mayor of Manila, illegal street vendors, food stamps and the homeless population in the US? By the looks of it, Homelessness is actually an industry because despite the billions of money that has been poured into it the problem still persist and has even grown bigger.  That only means corruption.   So who is making money of homelessness?

3 Steps to Stop Worrying

No such thing as a Selfless act.
Is there actually a good deed we do that is solely for the benefit of others?  Doesn't the mere fact that we felt good is already a reward itself? How about those who use social media to broadcast their so called "kind deeds"  to get thumbs up, likes and subscribers?  Isn't it all hypocritical?

Suspensions are now Suspended
California Senate Bill 419 by July of 2020, bans all public and charter schools from suspending students whose behavior falls under "Willful Defiance" until 2025 if not extended.  It now allows students to swear and insult their teachers,  not their school work, not to follow directions and not to pay attention with no consequence.  So what is school for then?  Maybe some children are just not meant for school because they learn in a different way.  How about those children that want to do well in school.  Who advocates for them?

Ignorance is Bliss?
Would you want to know the truth if the truth will make your life harder?    Maybe that is why ignorance is bliss, because truth takes effort.   So is it more about not knowing the truth or is it our preference to being comfortable that keeps us ignorant?

Looking for a Savior
The first installment of episodes dedicated to the age old philosophies inserted in the movie "The Matrix" Doesn’t everyone seek for a savior?   In every movie, every story, and even in every religion, there is always a search for "the one."   A messiah that will awaken the people,  that will come back to judge the living and the dead and bring justice to the faithful and punishment to the wicked. So have you found your Savior?

Never Give Up?
Never give up!  Don't quit! But what if we are forcing the matter and that there is an easier way to get to our goal?   What if the goal isn't really for us and that we would be better off changing the goal? So are you a quitter or simply smart?

The Faithful Con
Who among us do we think is worthy to live luxuriously?  Should a person with a noble vocation be poor?  Are we even in a position to judge? Maybe it is more of envy than social justice that we criticize these people who have found a way to live well.  If it weren't the case, then why don't we pay the people to whom we actually depend on, more than we do now?

To spank or not to spank
Most decent parents only want the best for our children.  We impart whatever we have learned from our own experience hoping that they would listen and not make the same mistakes.  The trouble is in how we impart that knowledge.  Do we actually explain the why of things or do we just hit and punish so children will remember to obey our will?
