Liveshot: Author recalls writing non-fiction before the internet and digital media
Writing a detailed account of live television coverage, sworn testimony and recalled conversations required a lot of paper and typing in the mid 1980's when there was no internet and no digital media. But it was par for the course in telling Liveshot, the tale of how a TV station covered the story of a lifetime using the same pre-digital tools--typewriters, land-line telephones, microwaved television signals and pen and paper. Research materials included a photo copier, old newspapers on microfilm and yes, the Free Library of Philadelphia.
